mocame: Just checking in to see how you are faring with the rain.

mocame, I don't remember what area you are in. Is the expected rainfall due to Ida? That storm is making a mess everywhere it goes.

Kamboka, That's is great to hear. As my stuff sells, I always find more. I love the hunt. I am hoping for some nice sparkling rhinestone brooches at Swamp-o-Rama. Maybe Coro, Trifari, Juliana, Sarah Coventry, Monet and maybe get lucky with Miriam Haskell, Alice Caviness, or Hattie Carnegie. Only the old stuff.

petite1: I saw a Miriam Haskell pearl necklace in one of my auctions this week. I placed a bid but forgot to go back when it came up to rebid. I think it sold for $21. Ugh. I'm always forgetting when something is coming up.

We are supposed to have rain tomorrow but Friday and the weekend should be great. My cousin called today to say that she is moving in with me tomorrow.

I loved how you said you 'love the hunt'. I think that's my situation as well.

Kamboka, That was a good price, if it was in good condition. More rain today. I was supposed to get together with a friend for lunch, but maybe Friday or Saturday.

mocame: How did you fare? I forgot what state you are in but seeing the news about the NE.

So far, it's been a pretty sunny morning here.

Kamboka, It is dark and cloudy here. Not much planned for today, other than laundry.

mocame, how is the weather up there?

Sunny all day here. Nice with a little breeze. Should be a really nice weekend. My brother and SIL are coming in tonight. Should be a fun time.

    mocame: How are you?

Kamboka, Beautiful morning. Heading out for some junking and lunch. Worried about mocame.

I am worried too. Did they get flooded out? Hopeful that it is not the case.

Kamboka, I don't know what state she is in. While junking I got a Christian Dior silk scarf for $4. It has yellow roses and very pretty. I am not sure if resell or keep. Maybe do both. LOL

Kamboka, I was looking at the last post from mocame, she said they were expecting 11" of rain. Maybe she is in an area without power.

I am worried for her as she said their house was prone to flooding. I'm hoping that is not the case.

I have trouble buying things and wanting to keep them. The problem is that I run out of space. Today, I listed five things on Ebay and something on FB. The problem is the time consuming part of taking the photos.

    Hello! I am here!

We did get a lot of rain (about 6.5 or so inches). We did get water literally pouring into our basement from the non-waterproof side. Even with 2 sump pumps going, my husband in the pouring rain digging ditches in our stone driveway to divert the water, we still got water. My dad drove 1/2 hour to bring us a 3rd pump for outside to keep the water from coming into the house and someone else also gave us a 4th sump pump to help keep up with the water pouring into the basement. It did get into our finished waterproof side but we were able to contain it and not damage anything there. I was rolling up the carpet, moving the treadmill, furniture, etc when normally I can't move them. LOL. Adrenaline. We had 8 to 10 inches of water around our swimming pool and we had a lake in our backyard about 15 inches deep. We had fans running for days but we are dried out now. We are working on more strategies to keep the water away from the house. Thankfully our new furniture hasn't arrived yet (it's been 6 months since we ordered them) and it just made me want to move but we have lived here for 25 years so it's hard to do that.

I will post again once but I have to head to work now! Have a great day!

mocame, I am glad to hear from you. That sounds like a nightmare! It sounds like you are getting through it. It looks like the blob in the Gulf is coming this direction, but it may bring more rain in to the already flooded Gulf coast states. Prayers for all.

mocame: We were worried so thanks for posting. I know you are still very busy trying to dry out. Mother Nature! Glad the new furniture had not arrived and hopefully it won't go in the basement. In TN, where I grew up, we didn't have many basements so didn't have that to worry about--although we probably need them for the tornados. Does your homeowners pay for any of this? Take care and we'll be waiting for any updates.

    mocame Member Posts: 564

No, homeowners insurance doesn't cover this because it's an "Act of God". But we didn't keep anything good in that section. I could've had a smashed car that day too. Because of the winds, I moved my car from where I normally park at work near some trees. A tree fell down in the winds and hit my coworkers car which is parked next to where I usually park. Thankfully hers wasn't totalled but the majority of the tree landed where I and another coworker normally park. So thankful!

I did sell a few things on ebay since I was on here last. I'm struggling to get anyone to leave me feedback, though. They seem happy enough with what they purchased so I'm not sure why.

It sounds like you two are doing well too! I hope you don't get any heavy rain.. I have my MO appointment tomorrow and get another Prolia shot. I emailed my MO about getting cancer markee blood work done. I have never had it done and most other cancer patients are surprised because they have. She responded that they don't normally do that at my early stage (stage 1) and just do the 6 month exams. Not sure I'm comfortable with that.

mocame: Wow, you were very lucky! It's good you listened to that 'little voice' in your head that told you to move the car. Sounds like your area really had a rough time.

Glad you had some sales. I purchase more than I sell on Ebay and the problem I have with the reviews is that I can't find the place to leave a review. I have tried but gave up. Is there any way you can send them the link or direct them better on where to go to leave the review? I know in Poshmark and other entities, it's easy to find the place for reviews.

My DC MO said she doesn't believe in cancer markers and we never did them. She said so many things affect the markers and it's not a good indicator. The MO here does them. I've had two so far and they remain low.

mocame, You fortunate you didn't park there. In 2004, when Florida had 5 hurricanes, I was an Assistant Administrator. Several family members of residents wanted to stay in the facility, as they had been evacuated. One lady was very grumpy. She complained about everything, for her own comfort and not that of the residents. A tree did fall on her car. I felt it was an act of God.

Kamboka, I slept through Mindy. It must be up there by you, at this time. On ebay, when you look at purchase history, "leave feedback" should show up next to the item. Most people do not leave feedback.

petite1: Yesterday, it was a 58% chance of rain today. Nothing happened where I live. Now, we are back down to 20% for the weekend. I guess we missed Mindy.

I found another auction house in Deland that will take about 100 items. I was very disappointed with the one in Orlando. I complained and he called me but I still think I'll write a negative review. He took about 100 items including nice crystal, pictures, china, etc. and sold a whole table for $80. He didn't even put them in his auction. I could have made more at a yard sale. I really lost a lot of money on that deal. I'm hoping this new auctioneer will do better. Then I'm slowing down on purchases as I'm not making any profits on anything. Sad

I'm glad you both missed any heavy rain from Mindy. You were on my mind.

Petite1 - I had to LOL about the lady and her car. Funny! I pack and describe my items very well but still can't get feedback even though I leave it for the buyer. Oh, well. I sold something else yesterday. Not a big amount but still a sale. I'm trying to really list right now for 4th quarter but I haven't listed anything since the weekend. i've been too busy.

Kamboka - That is frustrating that he didn't auction them! Are auctions the best way to sell them? Any other online markets that might be better?

I have to head back to my MO's office today. Wednesday was frustrating because the hospital got a new computer system and even though I arrived more than 15 minutes early, I stood in line and was a little late to get my labwork done. Then after waiting awhile for my MO's NP, then waiting for my MO, I waited in the room for over another hour only to find out that the NP was supposed to tell me that they had a computer glitch and the authorization didn't go through for my Prolia shot. I was so frustrated and had to lose a 1/2 sick day because I got to work so late and then have to go back today for the shot. Only found out at 5PM last night that the authorization finally went through for the shot this morning. Grrr! But the office staff were very nice and kept apologizing over and over.

mocame: I was having a conversation with my cousin today about relying too much on technology. She is addicted to her phone. When something goes down, this new generation don't know what to do. Can't we have some manual systems for emergencies? Sorry you had to lose sick time. I will have to take a 1/2 day week after next to take some items to the new auctioneer. I'm trying to do FB and Ebay but nothing is selling. I have so many items, I just want to par down.

Kamboka - Have you tried Mercari or other places? I was just listening to a few resellers that were saying they list stuff on ebay but it doesn't sell. Then they list the same item on Mercari or somewhere else and it sells right away. It seems people look on ebay or nowhere else, or Mercari and not on ebay, etc.

mocame: Thanks for the recommendation. I will look at them to see how it works.

My ebay sales were OK, but only 3 things went higher than I expected. This week no one is even looking. November is my best month.

mocame, Sorry your follow up was so crazy. The only thing that was bothersome for me was the mamo. I have gone to the same place for decades and now they won't take orders from a doctor that doesn't practice at the hospital. I never though to just have the order come from the GYN and not the MO. Oh well. I will be starting anew.

I have not heard of Mercari. I will have to check it out.

I follow A LOT of resellers on Youtube. Most sell on ebay, Mercari, FB Marketplace and Poshmark. Although I think Poshmark is mainly clothes, purses, jewelry, etc. A number of those resellers have mentioned that they are slow right now. I have stayed the same...I sell about 2 to 3 items a week. I'm a little frustrated with USPS right now. I literally ship the items ASAP and send most things Priority Mail. The mail has been slow. I shipped a package out on 9/9 and it just got to the person last night...They live 1 hour away from me.

    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite1 - I haven't heard the weathermen talking about it...at least not yet. Let's hope not!

Have either of you been getting any rain?

I finally sold something today on Ebay. It was a cute little cup of an Asian man with a monkey on his back made by Schafer Vater. I was surprised and happy as it's been a while. I will be wrapping up about 100 items to take to the auctioneer on Sunday. He will place them in his October sale. I'm slowing down on buying things.

The weather has been good for the last four days. There has been a few hours of overcast but it's keep it pleasant. I think we will get rain on Wednesday or Thursday.

Kamboka - Congratulations on the sale! If you like selling those type of things, check out The Nurse Flipper on Youtube. She buys (mostly through thrift stores) glassware and other decor and sells them on ebay. I know nothing about glassware, pottery, etc. and find her videos interesting. She videos when she thrifts so you get to see what she buys and why, and how much she pays for it. She also does videos on what she sells so you get to what is selling, how much she paid for it and how much it sold for.

mocame, That sounds like an interesting video. I don't know much about glass, but it would be fun to watch. I did check out Mercari.

    Kamboka, That sounds cute.

My mamo was moved up to this morning. Hoping there is nothing new.
