Kamboka, I can understand that. I have trouble with some people wearing masks, as it muffles their speech.

mocame, I am glad you are having sales! Ebay sales have picked up. August is usually a slow month for me.

Wow, it sounds like I'm missing out on some great sales this summer. I had a good June and early July. I had so many sales leading up to the 4th as I was trying to get my reunion organized. Luckily, my mom's helper was able to help me with my packing. He really enjoyed it. Every time he heard the phone 'ding', he knew it was time to wrap.

Kamboka, I love the cha-ching sound. LOL

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

My brother told me to be happy I am working and not worry about the ka-ching. I still miss the sound. I'm supposed to be back here in October but there might be some delays that will keep me in FL for October. I'll relist then and I plan to have a garage sale. I think I've got my sister hooked now as she was the one saying we need to do a sale.

I got two more weeks here and back to some warmer weather. It's not bad here being low 70s just so cloudy and a bit depressing. I'm definately a sunshine girl.

I have a confession to make...I've never heard my Ka-ching from an ebay sale! I have to keep my sound off during work and at night and that is when I get a lot of my sales. It's just never worked out that I've heard it. My sales have slowed a little bit. I've only sold 2 or 3 items a week, but I won't complain because I still haven't listed anything in 3 months.

Last week I was working 10 hour days and then running over to my daughter's school to help her in her new classroom until 8:00 or 9:00PM every night. She got a teaching just right out of college, which is rare. She is very thankful and very excited! She will be teaching 4th grade. I'm hoping I'm done with my 10 hour work days. Work is busy but not as bad as it was, so I am thankful. I actually got up this morning to exercise, which is the first time in months!

mocame, My sales are down as well. Usually August is one of the worst months for me. People are getting children back to school and not buying my trinkets. That is great for your daughter. I taught special needs, then 3rd and 4th grade before I went back to school to be a nurse and then back to school for my masters in Health care administration. Fun grades to teach.

Kamboka, The afternoon storms have slowed down this week and my yard has already dried out.

My sister in law is a teacher. It's funny that she's not a kid person but loves teaching those grades. She's in a school with some really smart and motivated kids so it makes it easier.

I have about 10 more days before coming back. We have national elections on Wednesday and it is a holiday. We are hoping for peaceful elections but you never know. I need to go to get some food to keep in the room so I don't have to spend $30 for a ham and cheese sandwich!

Kamboka, $30 for a sandwich, yikes! It must be difficult to stay on a healthy diet. Today it is 3 years since surgery.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: how time flies! You reminded me that my last surgery was the first week of August.

Today is election day. So far, so good but it really will matter when the results are released in a few days. We are hoping for peace.

I leave here next Tuesday night to start my 30 something hour journey home. September will be a busy month with my vacation and my ending one contract and starting another one that will take me back here in October. Looks like I might not have time to relist any of my Ebay things.

Kamboka, Yes, time flies. Any special plans for your vacation? I did vote. Mostly all local stuff.

3 year visit went well, but starting Prolia injections next week.

    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite - I'm glad your 3 year visit went well. I had my BS visit this week and everything is fine too. I am actually graduating to only being seen by her once a year! Yay! I have no side effects from the Prolia injections but you do need to take very good care of your teeth. You shouldn't have any extractions while on Prolia. I had a dental scare last week. After being on Prolia for almost 3 years, my dentist's office just realized this summer that it wasn't mentioned in my charts and they were very on edge about it. I talked about Prolia a lot so I don't know why it wasn't in their charts. Last week I started feeling some aching and sensitivity in some of my teeth and went to see them right away. We think it was a combination of my sinuses and grinding of my teeth/clenching of my jaw due to my stressful work. They did find the very start of a cavity and will fill that right away. I will also need crowns put on 2 teeth too. They are trying to jump on these early so it doesn't lead to a possible extraction.

Kamboka - Have a safe trip home. We do not have any elections here right now. It sounds like you won't be home long until you turn around and go back. How long will you be there the next time?

My ebay sales were great last week. I sold 8 things in 7 days but since then I haven't sold anything. Work has been super busy. I'm working more hours than my boss but some of that is due to my coworker having an unexpected death in the family and had to fly to another state for the services, clean out apartment, financial stuff, etc. I just feel like all of the hours we put in isn't appreciated at all and the stress is starting to take a toll on me. I'm hoping next week will be at least a little better.

petite1: Were you on an oral biphosphate and now they are starting you on Prolia? I had my labs scheduled for Thursday and my Reclast IV on Friday. I got word today that my flight to Brussels to DC for tomorrow had been cancelled. They have rebooked me on a flight Wednesday through Frankfurt. That means that I will not get home until late Thursday night. I had to cancel my labs. I also had a pain clinic visit to see if we can do something about my foot neuropathy. I heard there was a new prescription patch that I want to try. Not sure if they can do my labs on Friday morning before Reclast or I have to reschedule everything. I don't really have the time as I am on vacation almost three weeks in the month and supposed to come back to Angola in October.

So far, the election has been peaceful although they have announced the winner yet. The preliminary results show the ruling party ahead. They've been ruling for almost 50 years and the young folks want a change. Hoping the protests can stay peaceful.

mocame: Glad your sales went well last week. I miss my dinging phone. I hope you have some good dental insurance. Dentistry is so expensive. Did you say that you can get overtime pay or are you salary with no benefits for working more hours. At least we can get 'comp' time when we do overtime work.

mocame, I get the first injection on Thursday. I had the mamo & ultrasound, yesterday. I am not expecting any changes, but still makes me a little anxious. Glad you sales are up. Mine went pretty well this weekend, but I have a couple no pay or slow pay buyers.

Kamboka, The PCP prescribed the oral meds, but due to my IBS, not a good med for me. The MO prescribed the Prolia. I get the first dose on Thursday. I hope you have a safe trip home.

Kamboka - I hope you have a safe trip home. It would be interesting to be in a foreign country during elections and to see how their process works. How long will you be gone during your next trip? I do not have any dental insurance, so we have to pay for it out of pocket or use our medical reimbursement if we have anything left. I do not get any overtime pay. I am salaried. I now have enough hours to equal 24 days of overtime. Some department heads will pay their employees if they have worked excessive overtime, even if salaried. Mine does not.

Petite - I hope your injection goes well with no issues. I haven't heard too many people that have had any reactions.

mocame, Most of the Nursing Homes I worked at paid certain department heads a flat salary and sometimes a bonus. As it is becoming a distant memory, my Admission Director was salaried, my Director of Nursing was salaried, my assistant DON was salaried and of course i was. I think my Social worker, Maintenance, Activities and BOM were hourly. The rest, I don't recall. Housekeeping and Rehab were contracted (out sourced). During the 2004 hurricanes, I would work 48 hours, with naps in my office. I would leave the building when the hurricane warning was all clear. I remember during one of them (Florida had 4 that year), when I got home, I was so tired I just sat in my shuttered dark house crying and drinking a glass of wine. Since it was 7:00 am, I was rather embarrassed when my neighbor came by to check on me. LOL I am glad to be retired.

I finally made it home last night at 9:00 after my 30 hour journey. The flight up from Angola to Frankfurt was backed so no rest. Luckily on the flight to DC I had an empty seat beside me and was able to rest a bit. I supposed to go back in October if they can get my paperwork ready. Today, I had a 6:00am lab visit and then back to clinic at 9:00 for my Reclast. It went well and so far, I'm feeling okay. They say you might have fever, chills and muscle aches. I've been busy washing clothes, unpacking and repacking for both the trip back to Africa and my vacation that starts on Thursday.

petite1: I know we are in hurricane season and I'm hoping for the best since I'll be away from home a lot. I do worry about the house when I'm gone even though my brother or sister comes every few weeks and I have great neighbors. I brought them back some candy from the Frankfurt airport. The country I'm working in does have any souvenirs per se.

I didn't find any estate sale worth going to tomorrow. It's probably good since I need to finish up my expense report so I can get paid pack for the last 42 days.

Kamboka, Welcome home. My ebay sales have dropped, somewhat. Since I do auctions, they are selling, but lower than I expected. I am not sure if it is the season or the economy. I did not go to the antique Labor Day Event. I just didn't feel like doing a lot of driving, sweating in 92 degree weather and I don't any trinkets. I did get the trinkets out from under the bed, so things are selling. Good luck with all your appointments.

I had my Reclast on Friday and I'm happy to say that I didn't have any side effects that I know of. I'm hoping that it doesn't bother my joints in the future. I'm in the process of packing for my nine state road trip that starts Thursday. I'm hoping they don't cancel our flights-especially my mom's-as we are starting for three different places. I did schedule two days in the Denver area, just in case. The weather out west has been hot so I'm not expecting the typical cold weather in a few of the stops. I still have my big suitcase out as I will probably be going back overseas within a week or two of getting back. I just realized that I've gained 10 pounds in the last year. I've got to do better when I get back. I swear that nothing takes my appetite away. :)

Kamboka, I am hoping you have a wonderful trip.

Petite - That sounds awful! I can't imagine how tired you were. I know we have staff that stay over at work for 24-48 hours if we have a big snowstorm of something. If there is a storm coming, they tell them to pack clothes and stuff for a day or two.

Kamboka - Welcome home! You are just getting back from overseas and now a cross country trip?! Wow.

Also, is this the first time you had Reclast? Have you heard about any good or bad things about it? The reason I am asking is because I just saw my oncologist today and she wants to switch me to something else. I've been taking Prolia for almost 3 years and have no side effects from it and my osteopenia has been stable for the past 2 years. In August I had went to the dentist because my teeth were bothering me for a few days and they saw a shadow of a cavity and want to fix it and put some crowns on 2 other teeth as preventative. About four times in the past month, I have experienced tingling or numbness in my face around my mouth and my oncologist seemed to indicate it may be from the Prolia. I never heard of that before. She mentioned putting me on either Fosamax or Reclast. Fosamax causes acid reflux in a lot of people so I probably can't take that (I already get acid reflux) and I just read that you shouldn't take a water pill (I take every day) and have Reclast too because of possible kidney damage since they both can affect the kidneys. I'm not sure what to do but I need to do it within the next couple of weeks.

I'm all packed and ready to go at 6:15 but I still don't have confirmation from Uber that someone will be here. That is stressful. I hope I don't have to do an emergency 'drive myself' to the airport and pay for three weeks of parking. I'm tired already as I've been busy trying to regroup from being away so long, changing projects at work so I have to end one contract and start another and the paperwork for both need to be done this month. Anyways, I'm hoping to have fun. I will have some problems staying awake late. I'm adjusting to my five hour time difference from Africa and now I'll have to go to mountain time which makes it seven hours. I'll be ready for bed by 2pm. :)

mocame: I had the Reclast last Friday and luckily did not have any immediate reactions. They say you can have a flu-like response. One thing that I have noticed is that I'm having hot flashes. I am taking Celexa to stop them and it usually works but not in the last few days. I really hope this will pass. It's not fun when I'm working overseas and it's hot to start having hot flashes as well. I think this drug can also cause jaw necrosis but I'm hoping for the best.

I went to the pain clinic today wanting them to try the new capsaicin 8% patch on my foot neuropathy. The PA said that he would research and let me know if he can find a doc to give it to me. I think my feet are getting worse.

mocame, Since I have been on Prolia 1 week, my back has been bothering me. I am not sure if it is the Prolia or I did something to injure myself. It was better yesterday, but woke me up at 4:00 this morning. Hopefully it goes away soon.

Storm alert this morning. I hear thunder in the distance and radar shows a storm rolling in off the gulf.

    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite - I hope your back feels better soon and that it's not from the Prolia.

Kamboka - I hope you got off on your trip on time and everything is going well!

I went to the dentist today to get my cavity taken care of. I asked her a lot of questions about these medications we are all on and how they affect our teeth. She said these meds will last in our system for a long time. I asked her how long after going off the meds would they be comfortable doing an extraction or more advanced dental care. She used the example of me. I am on Prolia almost 3 years. If I went off of it right now, I would have to be off of it for 9 years before I would be able to have a tooth extraction! If I was on it for 5 years, it would be 15 years before they would be able to do it!! That's crazy! My dentist does root canals and even extractions, but she said she won't touch anyone that is on those drugs and needs an extraction. She said she has an older lady that was on those meds and had an extraction and it's been tough trying to get it to heal. The dentist also said that the IV meds are a lot worse than the oral meds, so that was good to know too. I wish the doctors would tell you that stuff. So scary. I would consider weaning off of the Prolia and any of these meds and try and combat my bones with diet and weight bearing exercise. The dentist even mentioned doing those. My diet is pretty good now that I'm about 80% whole foods plant based and my lab work came back yesterday and everything is in great shape.

mocame, My MO said the dentist would have to wait to do any dental work until the end of the 6 month time frame. I wish this doctors would all have the same information. My back is healing, I think it was muscle related. I had increased my exercise program to Silversneakers classic B. I was doing A. I think it may have been too much for me. I also had cleaned the 6 French doors and all the windows leading to the lanai. Also too much for me. I have started doing some walking and slow exercises. (I made them up). Now my varicose veins are acting up. I wonder if Prolia has anything to do with that.

One of my long term renters moved out. He lived there for 6 years, long enough to get married, have a child and get divorced. Now he is moving out to the woods in a tiny house off the grid. It has solar with back up generators, composting toilet, well water and rain barrels. Unfortunately, he left a giant mess and we want to sell. We had thought we would do HG, but the cost was greater than the house. So we are doing just basics, so someone could move right in and anything extra, it is on the new buyer.

I have more labs tomorrow. I never did get the final results on my mamo & ultrasound, but I guess that is a good thing.

Ebay sales are still going, but not as high. I think it will pick up next month and November is usually my best month.

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

Petite - How did your labs go? My ebay sales have been okay but not great.

My MO said she doesn't agree with the dentist about how bad the side effects are from Prolia and the other drugs. She said that isn't what she is seeing/hearing from her patients. That was good news. She is referring me to the osteoporosis clinic in the hospital talk to and figure out my new meds. She wants me on the new meds to wean off the Prolia and take a year break. I plan on continuing to eat plant based and exercise but also start including more weight bearing exercises for my bones too.

mocame, I found a video on YouTube for bone density exercises. I am dealing with a no-pay ebay person. I will give them a couple more days. My labs from this week showed my thyroid low and BUN low. Thyroid has been a problem most of my life.

My veins have been bothering me for over a week. The compression hose help the ones on my legs, but I have one behind my knee and a very uncomfortable one on my ankle. I went to a cardiovascular surgeon before BC and had 2 ablation procedures done. I guess I have to get a referral to go back. The compression hose wrinkle over the ankle and hurt the vein and my walking shoes bother it. Plus jeggings bother it.

Just doing a quick check in. Things are going well with the road trip. I think we are on day 9. This country is so beautiful. Tonight we are in our first local hotel. It's a log cabin. We head to Yellowstone tomorrow for the day only and then the next day down to Jackson Hole.

I'm trying not to think of all the thinks I need to be doing in preparation for my contract change at the end of this month and the new job immediately afterwards.

Kamboka - My sister-in-law just got back last night from traveling out there. She loved it! I'm glad you are having a great trip!

Petite - I hope you got the no-pay ebayer straightened out. No fun. I've been selling a few things a week. I need to get stuff out of my life so I'm not so stressed out. I'm donating a bunch of my inventory and offering some of my listngs with big discounts.
