I believe that the first test of a truly great person is his or her humility.  I do not mean by humility, doubt of his or her own powers. But really great people have a curious feeling that the greatness is not in them, but through them.  And they see something divine in every other person.

Spoke to many a British taxi driver who felt that Trump was not only a political disaster for our country but also for the whole of Britain and Europe. They equated him to the disastrous Boris Johnson, Margaret Thatcher, etc. and hoped the Kamala would prevail in the election. Funny to discuss politics with someone who is not MAGA and has a balanced perspective on life.

Hi Betrayal and welcome back. I do hope the posting means you are definitely home. I envy your conversations with sanity and balance which are pretty difficult here in the U.S. many times.

NYT endorses Harris as ‘the only choice’ for president

The editorial board has not backed a Republican for president since Dwight Eisenhower in 1956.

The endorsement of Harris is unsurprising — the editorial board has not backed a Republican for president since Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 — though still important given the paper’s influence. In July, 10 days before President Joe Biden left the race (and after the board called on him to do so), the board published a five-part, scathing editorial against Trump that struck many of the same chords as Monday’s story.

Monday’s endorsement calls Harris, in stark contrast to its descriptions of Trump, a “dedicated public servant” who is “more than a necessary alternative.” The board focuses on Harris’ plans for the economy, health care, foreign policy and immigration as reasons for electing her over Trump.

And while the board admitted some of Harris’ plans are not as detailed as voters would like, there are more “clear dangers” of a second Trump presidency, citing his refusal to accept the results of the last election (and potentially the upcoming one), and his promises to use the government to attack his political enemies. “Unless American voters stand up to him, Mr. Trump will have the power to do profound and lasting harm to our democracy,” they write.

There were some positives during Trump’s first term, the board writes, “Yet even when the former president’s overall aim may have had merit, his operational incompetence, his mercurial temperament and his outright recklessness often led to bad outcomes.”

For those reasons, they write, “Kamala Harris is the only choice.”

Another fine endorsement — more music for my ears.

    If You Only News
    https://polinews.org/vances-advisers-scramble-to-save.../...

    Excerpt from the above:

This year’s vice presidential debate, possibly this cycle’s last one, is set for Tuesday night. Much attention has been paid to how J.D. Vance prepares for the debate. Earlier reports have stated that Monica Crowley, a former Trump Administration official who later had a position with Project 2025, and Trump attorney Alina Habba are assisting Vance with his prep.

A new piece in The Daily Beast examined Vance’s debate preparation and what to expect on Tuesday night- and that we might not see him getting  bogged down in easily disproved lies and conspiracy theories the way Trump did in his debate against Kamala Harris.

Trump senior campaign adviser Jason Miller was asked in an interview this week whether Vance plans to make the false claims he’s been making — and Donald Trump repeated in the presidential debate – about Haitian immigrants eating dogs and cats.

It ended up with Jason Miller alluding to Walz being gay meaning for the most part that Vance's side doesn't really have anything much to attack Walz with or over. I think it may be interesting since Walz is not someone who I think can easily be made nervous. In fact, he's quite opposite and does well in a debate structure. I also note who seems to be trying to help him Vance. Really !!

That said, I do think Vance will try and stay away from the idiotic lies but at the same time he is a real extremist and so I question his ability (if there is much) to be able to produce such a make-over of himself for one debate. A lot is riding on the guy and it would I think be more likely that he would be the one nerved up and less capable in general. I guess this is all to day it may be an interesting night.

FG will be he said live broadcasting on Truth Social a play by play. Hmmm, he tried that before and it didn't go well at all and I don't expect this time to be better. He will likely bog down like he did before and who knows what will come.

Just a bit more — I can't ever say never like I once did, but I really am thinking that in Vance and FG there are two of the worst candidates ever. Saying that, even though I had disdain and dislike for Mike Pence and saw him as a loser (Indiana was happily done with him) he had a lot more going for him than Vance. He had a calm, cool demeanor and 'looked' the part far more than the bewhiskered (I always think something to hide) Vance. Vance is a bumbling liar, who is pretty much of a loser and who had his seat in Congress bought for him and that makes him someone who doesn't really belong. If he doesn't belong in Congress, he sure as hell doesn't belong as a Vice President. FG made the mistake of the century and couldn't clean it up and as always, wouldn't. He'd look like he made a big mistake — so he kept Vance. Two big mistakes.

Those two memes above and once again I immediately think — no wonder people are walking out of FG's rallies. I really do think sooooo many appreciate the far fresher and newer approach of Harris and Walz. Looking forward with energy and enthusiasm for getting positive things done — instead of the same old tired, washed-out doom and gloom and destruction and horror that you get with FG. What a dichotomy MAGA is. According to FG it wasn't great when he got elected because he said it needed to be great again and we all know he didn't get it there. Then he lost and had to go home in humiliation and says once again that America is ruined and will further be destroyed.

Between you, me, and the fence post that is opposite of what really took place these last four yrs. while things have (if slowly in a couple of areas) gotten better and better. So according to FG basically 9 yrs. os shi***le for us.

People are so ready to walk away from that "I alone can fix it" crap. Nothing was fixed — only torn up and that is all FG knows. He cannot build ANYTHING. Just knows how to sell his name. A real pig in the poke if ever.

Well, there it is —- all of us just want ourselves and the U.S. to be normal again. Why so many Reps. are willing, even seemingly anxious to vote for Harris and Walz this time out. Why there are so many great endorsements and more coming, I'm sure. Why we long to get FG trials much farther along. It's our reach and huge desire toward normalcy. We were here before in 2020 after the most horrendous four years of our lives that never should have been. It seemed then that it would in not too long of a time be over. Sigh. This time just has to be it.

A man whose whole life is a weird, odd, strange lie and if he couldn't lie, he couldn't live. It is what makes him a viable person. He feels nothing, he knows nothing, but as long as he lies he can keep on going. The fact that he isn't going anywhere hasn't occurred to him. He stalled out about the same time he started living in the WH and nothing has been the same since — except the lies.
