Remember, though, one thing SCOTUS does not have the power to do: issue a declaratory judgment, especially not sua sponte (i.e., on its own initiative, without a lower appeals court decision). Alito, Thomas & Gorsuch can bellyache all they want, but if they're in the minority they're powerless.

As to his super-spreader (and now abandonment-hypothermia) rallies, Trump doesn't care if his voters keel over and drop dead, so long as they do so after voting for him.

BTW, in Texas, as in some other states, it is one drop box for mail in ballots per county. There are a number of early voting polling p!aces in each county with even more (at least in most counties, don't know about some of the smaller and less densely populated ones) on election day.

With so many early voters, it will be interesting to see how heavy the turnout is on the 3rd.

Am trying not to worry about the outcome.

Trill: try Dove dark chocolate pieces. They are not too sweet, and since they come in pieces, you can just eat one or two. I personally like the dark chocolate mint ones. Eating crappy chocolate, is not like eating chocolate at all. What's the point???

NYTIMES cover page has a lot of interesting sounding opinion pieces today. Off to read.

Saw this on Heather Cox Richardson's FB post:

today 80-year-old golfer Jack Nicklaus endorsed him—as he did in 2016— warning that "if we want to continue to have the opportunity to pursue the American Dream, and not evolve into a socialist America and have the government run your life," voters should back Trump. Nicklaus and Trump golf together, and Trump has steered $20 million in federal money to Nicklaus's mobile children's hospital program. Nicklaus is from Ohio and still popular there. Trump is slightly ahead in the state, and Nicklaus's endorsement could help him hold it.

Divine: what do you think? Will Jack's endorsement help tRump?

He didn't sire white supremacists. He didn't script the dark fantasies of QAnon. He didn't create all the Americans who rebelled against protective masks and mocked those who wore them, a selfish mind-set that helps explain our tragic lot. It just flourished under him.

And it will almost certainly survive him. The foul spirit of these past five years — I'm including his hateful campaign — has been both pervasive and strangely proud. That's what makes it different. That's what makes it so chilling.

Frank Bruni's opinion: How will I ever look at America the same way again?

glennie, I went and read Nicklaus's endorsement and wow, it's full of entitled white male privilege. He's totally out of touch with what Trump has done for/to our country. Nicklaus had every advantage afforded him for a man of his generation and hasn't a clue what affects the "average" person. Imo, his endorsement means little and for many reasons.

First, if you're a wealthy and white Ohioan, you've already made up your mind and possibly already voted. I mention this category because the saying is "golf is a rich man's sport". If you live in poorer, rural Ohio, your hobbies lean towards hunting, fishing, off-road vehicles, not golf.

From data I read, Ohio's major cities, Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati all went for Clinton 2016. These areas are where the wealthiest Ohioans live. So it was rural Ohio who went big for Trump. There is great ridicule on social media from Trumpers about Biden being age 77. So I don't know how they would blast his age then turn around and embrace the endorsement of an 80 year old golfer, even as renowned as Jack is.

My son, in the 18-29 year old bracket, was interested in business growing up (got a degree in it) and many times I offered to pay for golf lessons for him, citing: "many business deals are made on the golf course!" But he was never interested. Last week he said, "Mom, I play video games with my bosses and co-workers, it's the golf of my generation."

So the Jack Nicklaus endorsement is not probably impressing many younger voters, either.

A greater influence is NBA basketball icon LeBron James who hails from Akron, Ohio and is revered in Cleveland due helping the Cavaliers win the city's first professional sports title in 52 years (2016). Time and Forbes name LeBron as one of the most influential athletes and most influential people...in the world. He endorsed Clinton 2016 and has become even more involved in the 2020 election.

Joe Biden's biggest problem is that there is no vaccine for Trumpism

Biden's presidency won't suddenly cure COVID because Trump has helped to create a whole culture of resistance to COVID-19 regulations.

I like the Dove dark chocolate because it is creamy (and it was a gift), but if you crave the dark semisweet as I do, nothing beats Hershey's dark semisweet bars or a frozen dark Milkyway.

I’ll be going to my younger dd’s house on election night. We’ll do Door Dash, probably do Thai (or thigh according to trump) for dinner but will have lot’s of nibbles to soothe the nerves as needed as the evening wears on. It’s going to be quite a night

I have been following what Nate Silver has had to say for quite some time since I subscribed to his newsletter. He has shown Biden holding pretty steady or gaining -- most days. If it is possible ( and I very much believe it is ) we can get through this with a win. It only remains I think -- by how much ? I feel concern for cheating and suppressive moves, but I am starting to have some trouble believing just exactly what Republicans will do. I sooo believe many of them will in fact vote for Biden. Also though it sounds horrid, Trump has not minded giving his own a huge dose of covid either. In fact, these rallies he is having are just tailored-made to help sicken his followers. How about that -- left in the freezing cold for 3 hours and then getting covid. Also, I wonder if all that we or they might think are going to vote on the Reps. side actually will. Some of them, if they feel maybe they don't have anyone to vote for may stay home like Democrats do.

We are just going to have to try not to jinx anything ( I'll carry my champagne home in a brown paper bag and leave it in the pantry ) and only put it in the fridge early on election afternoon. I'm going to remind myself hourly if not more that anything can happen but that it's a whole different time and being positive and having hope as long as I can, or until I don't need to anymore is just fine.

As always, I think as we approach closer and closer Trump is going to just get nuttier and more brazen due to that -- and continue to downgrade the other Reps., hurting them and doing not one good thing what-so-ever for himself.

Apparently there is some picture ( I might have seen it ) where his golf pants were none too clean. This would certainly go far in understanding why Melania often doesn't want to be close enough to hold hands with him.

    Hi,

First time writing to this topic however have enjoyed all the entertaining posts. I like the Blue Pumpkins, too. So the orange clown thinks he owns Fox news. Getting a laugh out of him upset by Fox News covering Pres. Obama rally speeches!
