miriandra, I do believe the Democrats will go a-courtin' for the young voters now. The mid term wins have helped Dem get a better game plan going in to 2022. We need to convince even more of the Gen Z crowd that they don't want a bunch of old, white, mostly male Republicans making poor choices today for the world Gen Z will live in tomorrow in terms of gun control, health care, reproductive rights, climate control, ect.
The average age of a congress person is 58. Having the first Gen Z-er, age 25, voted into office this month is hopefully just the start. I think more 18-29 year olds need to learn that the Republicans want to control the government based on countless outdated ideologies of these old, white entitled men in positions of power, not just in government but in religion and business. My hope is that their influence on this election will show more of them the power of their vote.
I would like to see inflation brought under control, and see some rallying of the stock market as we move along the next two years with Biden as president. That would help the Dems immensely.
Oh, the red wave. I hadn't watched any news coverage before Nov 8, only read carefully chosen articles online, so I'm only now seeing playbacks of all these Republicans declaring there was going to be a red wave. I am so relieved it did not happen. But I realized why my neighbor was so dead set on getting a permit to carry a gun in church. He was thinking there was going to be some kind of jihad when the red wave hit. I'm so very much grasping that he's into conspiracies even tho he tends to present as somewhat normal.

spookie, love the meme. It goes along with what I've been thinking the last couple days: I think Biden is going to go down in history as one of our very best U.S. presidents. He will be recognized as the man who saved our democracy, who was the right person for the job at the right time. Imo, his getting the vaccine rolled out and getting the U.S. out of the pandemic is one of the most amazing of presidential feats. He started with that and has gone on to do so much more.

I agree with both of the last two entries. Biden was around for a long time, and I think knows our government extremely well. If he went astray anywhere that I noticed, it was in thinking that the Reps. would be easily willing to work with him. He has done some pretty amazing things all in the space of two years. Would have been nice if we had been able to articulate those things better.
Things I do think will get better and I don't think we will have a recession. After all we are coming back from a horrid pandemic and the former group of people did all in their power to, they hoped, give Pres. Biden a hard way to go his first months in office. The Loon messed up many things such as putting a definite timeline on the U.S. getting out of Afghanistan. Having no real supply lines in place for vaccine for Covid.

Dolly Parton is so deserving of this award! I was always impressed by her as a songwriter/performer/actress. Then I visited Pigeon Forge (Dolly grew up 15 minutes away in Sevierville) and saw first had the immense, far-reaching influence she has on the region as a businesswoman (I do mean immense, if you’ve never been) and my admiration for her has known no bounds since then.
From '9 to 5' to $100 million, Dolly Parton receives Bezos charity award
WP/Ben Brasch
From singing barefoot on the front porch of her Tennessee mountain home to cracking jokes onstage beside a billionaire who had a nine-digit sum for her, Dolly Parton has always followed her heart. And the Queen of Country has followed her heart to become many things — a top contributor to the American songbook, a brilliant vocalist, an Island in the Stream — but above all, she's a giver.
As of Saturday, she can give even more. Parton received the Courage and Civility Award, which comes with $100 million, from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his longtime partner, Lauren Sanchez. She can gift the money to any philanthropic organization of her choosing. That could buy coats of many, MANY colors.
"Wow! Did you say $100 million?!" Parton said while receiving the award.
I try to put my money where my heart is. I will do my best to do good things with this money ❤️ Thank you @JeffBezos #LaurenSanchezhttps://t.co/8RHh51z3jT
— Dolly Parton (@DollyParton) November 13, 2022This is the second year Bezos has handed out the award. Last year, he gave chef and disaster relief specialist José Andrés and CNN commentator and activist Van Jones $100 million each. (Bezos owns The Washington Post.). "When people are in a position to help, you should help," Parton said in a video Bezos tweeted Saturday. "I try to put my money where my heart is."
Parton hasn't said what she will do with the money, but she has several long-standing philanthropic projects. She has helped destigmatize HIV/AIDS, the Los Angeles Times reported. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service gave her a Partnership Award for her bald eagle conservation efforts. She worked with PETA to stop dog owners from chaining up their pets and leaving them outside.
She certainly works more than her echoic tune "9 to 5" suggests. Her best-known program is the Imagination Library, which has gifted nearly 200 million books to children since 1995. The program's umbrella organization is the Dollywood Foundation. The Dollywood Foundation in 2019 spent $22.2 million out of its $35 million budget on books for the Imagination Library, according to its 990 form. Parton also received a 2022 Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy for addressing poverty and "strengthening early-childhood education through the distribution of free books worldwide."
Her dedication to education stretches beyond children.
>>>>>> The parent company of her Dollywood amusement park announced this year that Dollywood will pay 100 percent of costs for tuition, fees and books of employees who pursue higher education.Despite the fame and success, Parton is never far from her roots. No more than two doors down, you could say.
When wildfires threatened her native Sevier County, Tenn., in 2016 she pledged financial support for those who lost their homes. Parton also revealed last year that she invested the royalties from Whitney Houston's cover of Parton's "I Will Always Love You" — recorded for the 1992 film "The Bodyguard" — into a historically Black neighborhood in Nashville called Sevier Park. She also donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University for coronavirus research, partially funding biotechnology firm Moderna's vaccine.
And — here she comes again — then there's the tunes. Parton has recorded music for 50 years and has created about twice as many albums, according to her website. (You know you've recorded a lot when the list on your website has an Excel-like sort function.). Her musical influence is undeniable. The Library of Congress awarded Parton its Living Legend medal nearly *two decades ago.*
She was offered a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's 2022 induction class, and, in what is ironically one of the most rock-and-roll things someone can do, she declined the offer. She said that she wasn't worthy and that this inspired her to put out a rock album. The Hall of Fame rejected her rejection, and she was inducted this month.
Parton has only gotten more popular over the years — as shown by her 5.5 million followers on Twitter. Although it pays people to take its surveys, YouGov found that Parton drew the most positive opinions of any music artist. She's well liked because she's good, and she just got $100 million for charity because she's been philanthropic her entire professional career.
It's safe to say: From young people whose lives have been improved by the Dollywood Foundation to old fans, America will always love you, Dolly.

I used to think it was great to disregard happiness, to press on to a high goal, careless, disdainful of it. But now I see that there is nothing so great as to be capable of happiness, to pluck it out of each moment, and, whatever happens, to find that one can ride as gay and buoyant on the angry, menacing, tumultuous waves of life as on those that glide and glitter under a clear sky; that it is not defeat and wretchedness which come out of the storms of adversity, but strength and calmness. - Anne Gilchrist

Divine I totally agree. I grew up with country music when the style was much more wangy-twangy ( Kitty Wells was a big favorite then). I grew right along with the newer sounds and so there are many artists I really like (Alan Jackson " How Great Thou Are) but Dolly Parton is a true stand-out. A truly true empathetic person. Vince Gill and Carrie Underwood did " How Great Thou Are " and it was one of the most moving duos of a song I've ever heard. I still go on the Internet and listen. Dolly has shown herself to be truly TRUE in her empathy for individuals and large groups. She is a true blessing to the world.

I love this thread!! thank you all who contribute
Dolly Parton also donated 1 million dollars to Moderna to develop the vaccine and promoted getting vaccinated heavily.
she had a YouTube of her getting vaccinated by the head of Vanderbilt which is hilarious- no one scares her- she asked him if he practiced- he seemed a bit rusty!! haha.

Dolly is great. The award couldn't go to a more deserving recipient!

On a catty note (for this one time, I am in full agreement with Ivanka)
Ivanka Trump crops Kimberly Guilfoyle out of Tiffany Trump wedding photo
Oh, crop!
Ivanka Trump seemingly snubbed brother Donald Trump Jr.'s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, by cropping her out of a photo from sister Tiffany Trump's wedding to Michael Boulos.
The 41-year-old daughter of former President Donald Trump shared several snaps from the lavish Mar-a-Lago nuptials to social media over the weekend — including one where she posed with the bride and her mom, Marla Maples, former first lady Melania Trump and Eric Trump's wife, Lara Trump.

Haha! Here's the original which I saw online somewhere yesterday:
I'm surprised Ivanka is publicly dissing Kimberly like that but okay. Shows there's trouble in the camp. Guilfoyle's black dress seems out of place. I will never forget seeing her speech at the RNC two years ago, practically having an orgasm while screaming, “The Best….Is Yet….To Come!"

I did know if Mike Pence has any sway within the Republican party; but I sure hope that 'Trumpsters' will watch his interview with David Muir about Trump's behavior on January 6th. It should be absolutely chilling to any decent person no matter what his/her political affiliation might be.

As for the wedding, I thought Marla Maples hair and dress were pretty out. Melania had stringy hair as usual, and I thought the dress was odd. It had, at least to me some Roman-type look. She looked a bit frumpyfied (my made-up word) next to Marla.
Oh well, I think Tiffany really has more (except for seemingly being Republican like the Loon dad) class then Kimberly G and maybe worried about how she might behave. She may be Jr's flame, but she is not family and I'd probably dislike having her seem so.
