Why it's pretty much a bad idea to let businessmen run the country.

Not too much new today, but turns out Knight Specialty Ins. Gr. is actually owned by Don Hankey. He is known for being king of sub-prime loans. This reminds me of the guy in Mt. Vernon, which is a little town 20 miles south of us. He deals in used cars and makes up loans for people who otherwise would have trouble getting any — they pay his company direct. Gerald Fitzgeralds company likely could be serviced by Don Hankey's company.

All to say I think the Loon's bond is a bit sketchy. Don Hankey's company is into lending to people with poor credit ratings. He is a prolific Reps. donor and his bank refinanced the loans on Trump Tower and Doral. Those loans are due in by 2032. With dementia the Loon won't last near that long. So, guess now it is a wait to see what may come out of the woodwork about Knight Specialty and Don Hankey. It seems at the moment that everything is in place, but the fat lady hasn't sung yet so we will see.

It will also be interesting to see how and if the Loon tries to get over the hump of having a stronger Judge Merchan gag order. He does tend to use caution up to now, and carefully explores and picks any area he sees as vulnerable.

The Loon just always, but always stands up for himself and comes off as the VICTIM which is what works for him. Only someone so mentally un-sound could pull this off. To be so completely nonchalant is only possible I think when you have no conscience at all. It is fine for those who follow and adore him, but they I think as cult members have their own mental challenges. I think there are way more of us than them and we just look at the Loon with the scorn and disdain his words and excuses invite. Two different worlds.

Beyonce’s new country album “Cowboy Carter” is making headlines in all kinds of ways. Here’s an article from NPR.

What The Beatles and Beyoncé's 'Blackbird' means to this Little Rock Nine member

    Juliana Kim

Beyoncé's recent cover of The Beatles classic "Blackbird" was especially profound to listeners who know that the song pays homage to the Little Rock Nine — a group of Black students who were at the center of the fight to desegregate public schools in the United States.

Her version, which is featured on her new album Cowboy Carter, was even more meaningful to one member of the Little Rock Nine, Melba Pattillo Beals.

"This is the story of my life," she told NPR.

Beals was 15 years old when she enrolled at the previously all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., in 1957. She and eight other Black students were famously escorted by the 101st Airborne Division on their first day of class. They also endured verbal and physical harassment throughout high school.

Paul McCartney said on several occasions that "Blackbird" was inspired by the Little Rock Nine. He also said the term "Blackbird" represented "Black girl" in a 2018 interview with GQ

Beals, 82, went on to be a reporter and author of several books including Warrior Don't Cry and March Forward, Girl. A fan of both The Beatles and Beyoncé, she said the song is more special to her than ever.

Beals added that she is especially proud of Beyoncé, who produced her latest album despite initial backlash for entering the country music genre.

"People ignored the song's meaning for a long time," Beals said. "But when the Queen B speaks, people will listen. And when people listen, they may open their minds to compassion about differences."

'Blackbird' reminds Beals of her grandmother's advice growing up: 'You have to keep going no matter what'

When the original "Blackbird" came out in 1968, Beals — who was in her late-20s at the time — immediately felt the song was relatable.

"I didn't think it was about the Little Rock Nine, but I wondered if it was about Black pain," she said.

The lyrics "Blackbird singing in the dead of night" reminded her of how slaves relied on music to cope with the pain of daily life. Beals added that the next set of lyrics — "Take these broken wings and learn to fly" and "Take these sunken eyes and learn to see" — captured Black Americans' strength and determination in a country that historically prevented them from succeeding.

"It reminded me of what my grandmother said to me when I came home from Central High School complaining about the abuse I had taken during the day: 'March forward, girl. You have to keep going no matter what,'" Beals said.

Beals felt especially thankful for the song because it was her longtime dream to write music about her experiences and those of other Black Americans.

Growing up, Beals said, she was told to rarely speak her mind. So she channeled her thoughts into diary entries and songwriting. She wanted to become a singer, but Beals said her mother was not supportive.

"My mother wouldn't let me. She said Black people cannot survive without higher education," Beals said.

When Beyoncé sings 'Blackbird fly,' Beals understands it as 'I've done it, you can do it too'

When McCartney sings "Blackbird fly," Beals interprets it as meaning "I see you." But when the words come from Beyoncé, Beals said she understands it as "I've done it, you can do it too."

"It gives it a new meaning," Beals said. "She's saying whatever is your thing, get up, pack your wings and fly."

She hopes Beyoncé's cover will prompt people to remember and reflect on the civil rights movement, as well as remind them that there is more work to do in the fight for equality.

"As long as there is a single individual on the planet who is not free, then none of us are free," she said.

Beals added that the song and its reference to the Little Rock Nine are especially poignant today, given that several states — including  Arkansas — have fought tolimit the teaching of Black history in recent years.

Beals said her books about her experience at Central High School, including Warriors Don't Cry and March Forward, Girl, have also been challenged in schools over the years.

"Blackbird is about the past, today and the future," she said.

I love the use of Mar a Lago to make puns. Mar a lardo, Mar a Gordo…

I have a good friend who lives near West Palm. I know where the Mar is but where’s the Lago, I asked her. She didn’t know. Trump did not name the place but is there actually a lago (lake) near there? Maybe if Kari Lake changes her last name to Lago, trump will pick her as a running mate 🤷🏻‍♀️😂?

Divine, I loved reading about Beyonce. It was one of those things I wag 'going to get back to' and like so often before I didn't. I would have missed w wonderful read about music I've always loved.

Ruth, I was giggling to see the billboard. I wish they could be up all over. Only thing I would worry about is turn-about is fair play and to be honest, I'd hate to see the Democrats get treated to those events. Still though, the Loon is such a great target. His whole putrid disgusting life can be made as some way to show him up and to show the world and even him how ridiculous, petty, undeserving, mean and small-minded he is. And he is stupid to boot.

ruthbru, absolutely true! Trump got money from a repo man!

I am still shocked daily at those who still support him! My college roommate is a big Trump supporter. We almost lost total contact after Jan 6th, we patched up our friendship avoiding all political talk but I don't think we will ever have the deep friendship we once had. Even so, I am not ready to give up. I have known her since 1974. We have been through a lot.

I keep telling myself that as far as politics goes, I do what I can and let the rest go. Easier said than done.

I once had so much faith in the justice system. Now, not so much. I hate violence but for the first time I am considering buying guns. I doubt I will do that, I have never been a gun person, never a hunter. I never want to harm anyone. Purchasing a gun means one is willing to take a life, either animal or person.

Trump pretending to be religious turns my stomach, as do those who seem to buy into this ruse!

Also, if you have a Republican Congressman, let them know you don't want Dulles airport renamed Trump Airport!

I wrote to mine and told him not only won't I vote for any Republican again, he should put truthful signs around the area. Currently he is "all about community" according to his signs. I told him he should be truthful and put, Fitzpatrick for Republicans only.

I also reminded him that one day Republicans will have to deal with the Real God, after supporting Trump's efforts to be GOP Jesus, and I wished him "good luck with that!"

Happiness is that brief sigh of a moment that delivers a glow of peace and serenity.  Happiness is that tiny point of a feeling in our chest that radiates itself a million times throughout our being.  Happiness is that "pause" that refreshes our spirit, allowing us to plunge back into the rigors of our lives with renewed vigor.  Happiness is that precise moment that allows us to experience--even if briefly--that we are a part of a vastness our minds will never comprehend.  Don't knock the brevity of happiness.  Rejoice in its existence.

I'm with you MM. I'm thoroughly disgusted with those who are trying to elevate the Loon as some sort of Savior. He uses God and religion as much an anyone or anything else and does it right in everyone's face. No wonder it gets to people and rubs them so wrong. Those who look the other way I can't see as the pious and righteous people either. Seems to me they mis-use faith to get what they want just like the Loon. Ya'll maybe deserve each other.

I do think there will be a reckoning. I so think the evangelicals have pushed too hard and going against the bible (if they ever really believed) will come back to haunt them. Religion has no place in government and trying to put it there is going to cancel a lot of it for people. I think it already has.

I'm still wondering how it will go with the bond payer for Trump. Just his style — hooking up with a lender specializing in people banks don't want to loan to. Then again, when you are yourself one of the sketchiest individuals on the planet, you are reduced (even if they have done well themselves) to living life with other bottom feeders. I think it could blow up in some way, but just have to see, I guess.

So now he wants to sue the other owners because it is their fault. Of course, he is not responsible for any of it. Good Luck loser.

This ragged debris of a person still "seems" like he could become a president again. I don't think there are that many stupid people here. Sure hope not anyway.

Desperate Trump Tries To Fix Plunging Stock Price With Sharpie

    APR 02, 20241,421110Share

A Sharpie much like the one Trump used, according to sources. (Brett Jordan on Unsplash)

PALM BEACH (The Borowitz Report)—An ugly scene unfolded at Mar-a-Lago on Monday as an increasingly apoplectic Donald J. Trump watched the stock price of his newly listed Trump Media & Technology Group plummet.

Incensed by CNBC’s graph tracking his stock’s dizzying descent, Trump uncapped a black Sharpie and started defacing the TV screen in a desperate attempt to halt the slide.

After Eric Trump whined that his father was “wrecking the TV,” the indicted businessman hurled the Sharpie at his son, disfiguring his forehead.

Across the country, members of the MAGA movement who invested in Trump Media were reportedly in a state of shock that a company run by Donald Trump could lose money.

Trump took to Truth Social to offer them an explanation for his stock’s humiliating crash. “Everything is Going To Hell under JOE BIDEN!” he claimed.

Meanwhile, in a sign of his fading fortunes, Trump has started calling his wife Mazda.
