I say a heartfelt thanks for the kind and generous words. I always hope to inspire a feeling of some power and control. Seems it is needed more so now in this topsy-turvy gut wrenching world that Trump and minions have sat on edge. Always feeling like we might be pushed over. We are honest Americans and we CAN-DO and we now MUST do. Still hard to judge exactly where we are going to end up right now. I read earlier ( and it has the ring of truth ) that Mitch McConnell knows exactly what he is doing. I think of the big risks and big rewards, but there is indeed the opposite. Surprises happen ( don't we all know ) so I wait to see how it goes. I hope it is the other side that gets all the negative surprises this time.

glennie19: Toomey also sends "canned" replies to emails sent to him and then later you receive a formula letter which says nothing about whatever you contacted him about. He is about as worthless as dog shit on one's shoe. He votes the party line no matter what, but I did remind him of his upcoming election in '22 and I think the state is ready to help him vacate his seat. I know I will contribute to any movement to unseat him.

Love the Fearless Girl statue and I am hoping when they erect the future statue of RBG that it, too will have a lace collar. She sure could rock those robes with her necklaces and collars.

Love this site. Nice to know that others share one's thoughts and feelings. Jackie's quotes are wonderful and thought provoking. Her sources must look encyclopedic.

I share the memes with my DD and DSIL.

All of our Rosh Hashannah services were online, of course, but we did have a live, masked, socially distant Shofar blowing in the parking lot. My BFF was wearing her RBG tee shirt and I was wearing my RBG socks. It was wonderful seeing everyone, masked and at a distance,, but to see them in person and not on Zoom was really a joyous thing this weekend. The Rabbi said that Shofar blowing can send particles 60 feet!! So the shofar blowers were by the doors, and we were all far away in the parking lot.

Does anyone follow Rachel Bitecofer? She's a political scientist and her forecast of 2018 mid-term was pretty spot on. She gives a 99.5% chance of Biden winning. I need to hang on to that!

Here is excerpts on her approach from wiki:

Bitecofer's main thesis is that modern elections are not decided by the swing vote, but rather negative partisanship, which prioritizes defeating the other side over any specific policy objective. Under her theory, shifts in voter turnout decide everything, and the "swing" mainly comes from whether voters decide to vote at all rather than deciding who to vote for. This view has been criticized by traditional political analysts like David Wasserman of The Cook Political Report, with others such as Kyle Kondik and Sam Wang taking a more balanced approach. Bitecofer has disagreed with Nate Silver's take that ideologically extreme candidates pay a political price, believing instead that a candidate like Bernie Sanders would not cause significant downside for the Democrats, though she does not find much upside either, arguing that he did not bring many new voters to the polls in 2016. The fact that progressive favorites like Stacey Abrams and Beto O'Rourke often came much closer to winning their races in red states in 2018 than Blue Dog moderates who tried to ingratiate themselves with Trump has been held as validation for her theory.

I find that interesting ErenTo and maybe I will look her up. I know there were a lot of voters who did not come out in 2016 so I think there could be something to that 'swing' coming as much from voters who do show up. obviously in 2018 voters came out in droves. I feel like, even though in many cases it will be done differently this time, voters will indeed come out in droves once more. Both sides have ample reason, but there are indeed I think a lot more Democratic voters and it is one of the big reasons why Reps. have had to find ways to squash/suppress the left vote.

I'll be so glad when this whole thing is over though it is likely we may not know on election night. I hope though by that time there are some good clues as to how things will go. I think I heard that if in the big states with more electoral votes as well as states Trump needs to win -- if they go heavily for Biden enough -- there will be little doubt that Trump has been cast out. The only other issue will be making him cede. Likely not easy or pleasant.

Trump denounced as 'evil' for cooking up 'disgusting lie' about RGB's dying wish I lost my home page that had an automatic bitly on it so I can no longer shorten url's and make it easy to a link. This came from Raw Story and seems like Trump was saying on Fox that RGB's words were a made up Democratic hoax.

Could anyone EVER get lower than Trump can ?? RBG's family in mourning and he ties to nullify some of RGB's last words to her grand-daughter. I have no words for the level of disgust I feel. Truly an evil, soul less ( in my book ) just barely human individual who feels he doesn't deserve to be shackled by conscience or human kindness and decorum, and he plainly is not. In some of my studies through the yrs. it was said that there is no REAL hell as such -- that life here is heaven or hell. He surely is a part of the hellish earth life. There is nothing I have ever found redeeming about this man and he has been so far gone for so long that any improvement/redemption is impossible. It seems too that individuals like this don't ever actually progress. They are ( this is if you believe in reincarnation ) doomed to be one way or other in this condition until the end of time. Well, in some ways that in my mind is all someone like Trump deserves. I'd just like to think there would not be a continuation of his ability to harm so many people He just is sickening, creepy and worthless.

My gut feeling tells me that it's going be a landslide win for Biden. That's the feeling I'm getting from the general sentiments coming out of the US, despite T's stubborn 40%+ approval rating. Apparently 'shy Biden voters' in red states are terrified of MAGA nuts keying their cars and throwing eggs at their house, so they avoid putting up Biden signs. But I don't trust the authoritarian morons in charge until it's all over, so everything remains up in the air.

Another hopeful news is Allan Lichtman's 13 key presidential election model. He's confident that it will be a Biden win. He has predicted every presidential election in the last few decades correctly, even 2016. He doesn't think RBG's death will turn any key, either.

I think that TV network (broadcast & cable) news depts. should get together and vow not to forecast or "call" winners or losers on Election Night, waiting till all (or enough mail-in) votes have been counted. I still remember how they all had to suddenly eat their words (and their fancy computerized graphics) when the FL vote suddenly turned from Gore to Dubya.

Watching live now: TurtleMan, after eulogizing RBG, just repeated his vow to bring Trump's nominee to a floor vote, predicting a "parade of misrepresentations." He made reference to apocryphal "Dem. Senators who stand on the steps of the Supreme Court and threaten" Justices who "don't vote the way they want them to."

Really, the Dems stand on the steps of the Supreme Court and threaten Justices? I remember reading how the Repugnicans said that Chief Justice Roberts was not supporting them and thereby not doing the job he was appointed to do. So Is Moscow Mitch also losing it? He does resemble a snapping turtle come to think of it. LOL

Ruth, that is scary but certainly seems to describe so many on the rt. and especially a lot of the rally attendees. Often the rally people don't look or sound too scared but they are with their leader who also reminds them that he is all out for them, and only he can fix their issues. I find a sadness to that in a way. So many people can be depleted of their will by tormenting them with negative messages, their spirits stolen. No wonder those idiotic conspiracy theories become true for them.

Sad that the people behind Trump think they are aligned with him. He gives them stature but they have no idea how little that means. If they ever fall out of the bubble, they will truly have nothing.

I love all the memes on here! Using them in various FB groups but unfortunately I still have family that are pro the orange idiot. I belong to a FB of NC women voting for Biden Harris and I feel that there is a lot of momentum for Dems this time around. Especially with the passing of RBG. Maybe moderate thinking people are finally scared enough to go to the polls and vote (and not for 3rd party like 2016). I do worry that Trump will do something even if Biden is the clear winner and try to stay in the WH.

    So much is at stake

We will be subjected to a lot of can do talk from the other side. As of now I do assume much is just TALK. McConnell says he has the votes and he may well have them, but in the end ALL of his people are going to be calculating the COST of what they do. It is known that only with some form of cheating ( which this time may have to be massive and become transparent ) could they survive. Some may consider that in their vote. I think of just because you can, does not automatically mean you will. The Reps. have stayed pretty much in lockstep -- but at this point surely there are those who will be looking past the exhilaration of seating a SC judge. So just because you can doesn't mean you should. It will be interesting to see if McConnell does it now or waits lame duck.

Either way I think there could be way too many BLUE votes to nullify.

    UGH!!!!!

Mr. Romney had been closely watched as a potential defector given his past breaks with President Trump, including when he voted to convict him in the impeachment trial and remove him from office.

But with the rest of his party quickly swinging into line, it had become clear that Mr. Romney's opposition would not have been sufficient to block an election-season confirmation.

It was almost a given that they will get the vote either way, before or after election. I think the only option Dems have if they get in power is to increase the number of seats. Not sure how feasible it is, but knowing the GOP's lack of any moral compass, they'll fill the seat.
