I told you Moscow Mitch looks like Grannie! He just needs the hat and the blouse and skirt! Same mouth, glasses and dour expression.
It is a sad state of affairs when the Repugnicans will cite the Constitution for when the new president will be sworn in but not for any other anti-Constitution offense that the drumpf has committed to date. Seems like a double standard to me and even more pitiful that drumpf has managed to shrink their balls over 4 years. Best method of birth control going though not too many of them are in the childbearing/reproductive years. Wonder about Lindsey anyhow.
As far as drumpf finally wearing a mask, makes you wonder if he doesn't wear one because his orange tan would come off and then he would really be a sight for sore eyes. Personally it was an improvement because I did not need to see his smirk or cheesy grin as he stood there in what purported to be a moment of respect. The angle made if hard to see how much twitching he was doing since I am sure it was causing him discomfort to appear to be a civil human and for a woman at that. Especially one who engendered the respect he feels he is owed, but clearly doesn't deserve by any stretch of the imagination. VOTE HIM OUT. The new battle cry.

This piece was by AlterNet and it doesn't copy and paste for me. I think I got the salient part though.
The Real Reason Trump Is Being So Open About His Plans To Steal The Election: voter suppression.
For many Americans, especially those living in Democratic strongholds where elections are administered by Republicans, casting a ballot is difficult. Voters face long lines, tight absentee deadlines and have to dot all of their I's and cross all of their T's top have their votes counted. In many jurisdictions, they need to have the proper identification to vote. Those voting by mail have to have faith that the Postal Service will deliver their ballots on time to be counted, and that elections officials will oversee the process in good faith.
Trump is banking on Democrats coming to believe that their votes won't count, becoming demoralized and not putting in the effort to jump through the necessary hoops to participate.
This reality puts us in a tight spot. On the one hand, it is absolutely vital to raise the alarm. Trump is perpetrating an egregious assault on American democracy right before our eyes. Preparation and planning are important. Educating the public about these threats is crucially important. But at the same time, amplifying Trump's promise to sow chaos by disenfranchising millions of voters serves his ultimate goal of suppressing Democratic turnout.
All of which makes it very important to walk a fine line here. This is a situation that calls for the kind of righteous anger that could further motivate Democratic voters and result in a serious blowback for the GOP. It is not a time for despondency or resignation.
The fix is not in, at least not yet. As I wrote last week, massive Democratic turnout that would likely swamp any attempt to undermine the results is a distinct possibility. Trump is historically unpopular, polls find a declining share of Democrats planning to vote absentee, and Biden could very well be in the lead on Election Night, which would blow up Trump's entire strategy.
That outcome is possible if Democratic voters recognize that Trump's bloviations about the election are signs of his weakness, insecurities and fears, remain positive and put in the work to deliver a blow-out win for American democracy in six weeks.

So much is happening all the time that it is hard to predict how things will go on election day. So much of what I hear seems to signal that Biden has been out of front of Trump all the way so far. There are some areas where they break even but most have Biden with a good headwind over Trump. PA sounds good.
The key will be if people find a way to vote and then do it -- whatever way they choose. Dh and I thought to get a mail-in=ballot but take it ourselves rather than mail it in. After talking about it, and the fact that we have not had big outbreaks of covid around us as yet ( a bit nervous about time to go yet ) we feel as though with good protection and if we know who we are voting for and , what we are going to vote for -- we could go to our polling place. Many times we have been there and have seen few people there -- no lines and sometimes we have been the only ones inside. That doesn't guarantee anything, but only that we have a lot of Sr. voters in our area ( this is mainly a retirement town ) and so we I think will request the ballots and be ready to execute a change in plans ( checking the health department figures for out county and the four surrounding ones ) if we don't like the health department numbers.
I say PA sounds good, but most of the swing states do.
8% Of Pennsylvania Trump Supporters Have Flipped To Biden
A new Fox News poll found that Biden leads Trump 51%-44% in Pennsylvania and 8% of Trump's supporters have flipped to Biden. According to the Fox News Poll: Likely voters in Pennsylvania favor Biden over Trump, 51-44 percent. In 2016, Trump narrowly won Pennsylvania (by less than one percentage point). It was the first time …

Jackie, a poll may make it seem like Joe has an edge in PA, but other numbers tell a different story. Republican voter registration has skyrocketed in PA since 2016. A Pittsburgh news station caught my ear a couple weeks ago by mentioning within a news story about Trump visiting the city that Westmoreland County which is just west of Pittsburgh recently registered 10,000 more Republicans than Democrats.
The following link to an article in Politico from Sept 10 discusses the Republican voter surge in PA. It’s not all bad news. Dems in the state still outnumber Republicans but one should keep an eye on this. And urge their PA Dems to vote.

Back to the prayer, I would like to make an addendum: And may Satan give Mitch, Lindsey, Marco, Ted, Rand Paul, and all the Trump children (excluding Baron whose fault none of this is) extra jabs with his pitchfork just for the Hell of it. Amen!

Trump is challenging voting by mail in PA because he is afraid that his base will not be enough to give him the edge. The number of Democrats increased after the 2016 election and many communities which had been previously Repugnican strongholds were overturned. As a result of the Repugnicans prior actions our local health department was disbanded for cost savings and at the height of Covid, we did not yet have one in place.
I think many Democrats will be angered by what is perceived as voter suppression and will come out to vote in record numbers. The mail-in ballots have also caused an issue because there are two envelopes for the ballot which may confuse some. The completed ballot must be placed in the first envelope and sealed. Then this is placed in the second envelope and the person's signature must be on the exterior of this envelope. (They tried to eliminate ballots based on signatures not matching but this was overruled by the courts). Once received the outer envelope will be discarded to prevent the results from being evident. However, if the inner envelope is not used on opening the ballot will then be discarded, thanks to the interventions of a trump appointed federal judge. I don't know why we needed the double envelope system to begin with but it cannot be undone at this late date. Trumps factions have threatened to employ thugs at the polling sites to discourage voting. While they have to remain a specified distance from the doors, they will be permitted to congregate in the parking lots forcing one to cross a gauntlet in order to vote. This is a sad state we are in when even trying to exercise our right to vote is being suppressed by that megalomaniac and his henchmen.

Addition to prayer accepted and added. Amen.

You have to wonder if Wray will make the next few weeks or months:
Trump's own FBI director shoots down his bogus conspiracy theories about mass voter fraud
"We have not seen, historically, any kind of coordinated national voter fraud effort in a major election"

This article originally appeared on AlterNet.
While Democrats are encouraging voting by mail because of the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump continues to attack the process and vehemently insists, without evidence, that mail-in voting encourages voter fraud. FBI Director Christopher Wray answered questions about the security of mail-in voting during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee meeting on Thursday, and he didn't see it as any less secure than voting in person.
During his testimony, Wray told Democratic Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan, "We take all election-related threats seriously, whether it's voter fraud, voter suppression — whether it's in person, whether it's by mail. And our role is to investigate the threat actors. Now, we have not seen, historically, any kind of coordinated national voter fraud effort in a major election, whether it's by mail or otherwise."
Wray pointed out that that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has seen local election fraud "from time to time" but that there was no evidence to suggest that mail-in voting is less secure than voting in person.
"Certainly, to change a federal election outcome by mounting that kind of fraud at scale would be a major challenge for an adversary," Wray told Peters. "But people should make no mistake: We're vigilant."
Attorney General Bill Barr, on the other hand — who happens to be Wray's boss — has echoed Trump's dubious concerns about voter fraud. He has even claimed the federal government uncovered a case of one person turning in 1,700 fraudulent ballots — but this story turned out to be entirely false.
Although certainly possible I would doubt that 1,700 votes would change the outcome of a presidential election. I think it is evident ( transparent ) that Barr is swaying for Trump. Brining up just one instance ! That would be enough to convince the Trumpanites, but most of them lost any brain cells they may have had four yrs. ago if not sooner. This would not suffice in any way for anyone else.

Trump killed another one of his supporters. This guy spent almost a month in the hospital before dying of the Trump virus.

The reason for the two-envelope system is to ensure the secrecy of the ballot--it serves the same purpose as curtains on old-school voting booths used to (and the side "wings" on the newer ones do, up to a point). When the voted ballots arrive at the election facility, one person checks to see that the outer envelope is signed and dated and that the name is on the rolls. Then (s)he opens and discards the outer envelope, and puts the "blind" inner envelope into a bin, which when full is passed to another worker. At this point, the ballot is totally anonymous. This next worker opens the blind envelope, extracts & unfolds the ballot, and places it on a stack to be counted when the time comes. (Some states allow mailed ballots to be counted anywhere from the day before the election to as early as 4 days before). States that allow early counting of mailed ballots will have that count ready to report and add to the electronic vote totals as soon as the polls close; and most states will continue to count any ballots postmarked by Nov. 3--anywhere from until 3 days after to "until the last dog dies"). Early-count states may even have reportable totals, including mailed ballots, by the end of Election Night.
Mail ballots began being sent out today across IL. Early in-person voting began in two suburban counties (Lake & DuPage) today--and waits were as long as 2 hrs., with no complaints. As one voter put it, "I'd swim through a sea of coronavirus to make sure my vote counts, because this is the most important election in history." Here in Cook County, Bob & I plan to take our ballots to the early-voting dropbox at our neighborhood library (the ward's early-voting location), which box is bolted to the pavement, locked, and patrolled both by camera & in-person 24/7. There will be patrolled dropboxes at polling places on Election Day as well.

Mail ballots were sent out yesterday in FL. I should get mine soon. (YAY for informed delivery!) Ours is a 2 page ballot, many amendments, and many "should this judge continue to serve another term?" A long ballot is discouraging for many people, and the amendments are confusing.
I volunteered to be a poll greeter during early voting (Oct 19-31 here) and on election day. The week of Oct 12, I can pick up pamphlets to hand out. It has Democratic voting info on there, and hopefully info about the amendments. I'd like to be able to speak clearly about them.
I'm torn between taking my completed ballot to the Supervisor of Elections office and putting it in the locked box,,,, or doing early voting, since I'll be there anyway. Since it is a long ballot, it may be better for most people to fill it out at home and mail, or take to the lock box.

thank you for the memes everyone! One of my Facebook groups gets a meme post most days that I copied from here.
My husband and I have decided to vote early and in person. I’m taking the day off work in case there are long lines. Might take a face shield in case there are trump supporters who are spitters

Stupid question: how do we know these early votes are not destroyed by Trump thugs? How are they protected?

I trust our local governmental officials. We have decided to do early voting. If you choose the absentee/vote by mail option, if at all possible, drop in in the locked book instead of sending in back through the mail.

I thought this was very interesting:
(CNN)Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is still making history, even after her death.
Ginsburg, who died last Friday due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer, will become the first woman to lie in state in the US Capitol on Friday, according to congressional historians. She'll also be the first Jewish person to be given that honor.
Ginsburg joins Rosa Parks, John Lewis, and Abraham Lincoln as those who were laid in state or laid in honor at the Capitol.
Lying in state (for government official and military officers) and lying in honor (for private citizens) is when someone's remains are placed in the US Capitol in Washington, DC, to allow the public to pay their respects. This tribute is considered one of the highest honors.
Since the practice started in 1852, 38 people -- counting Ginsburg -- have been given this honor, including 12 presidents.
There are no written rules on who may lie in state or honor. It is determined by the current House and Senate and then must be accepted by the family of the deceased.
Here are some other historic firsts
*Rep. Elijah Cummings became the first Black lawmaker to lie in state at the US Capitol last year
Rep. Elijah Cummings became the first Black lawmaker to lie in state at the US Capitol last year
Last year, the late Rep. Elijah Cummings made history as the first Black lawmaker to lie in state at the US Capitol when his body was laid in state in Statuary Hall, an expansive room that houses a collection of statutes contributed by individual states to honor prominent individuals in history.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and other members of Congress spoke in tribute to Cummings, a longtime Maryland Democrat. In her remarks, Pelosi referred to Cummings as "our North Star, our guide to a better future for our children."
*Rep. John Lewis' casket is seen in the Capitol Rotunda earlier this summer.
The late Rep. John Lewis was the most recent person to lie in state after he died of cancer at 80. He became the first Black lawmaker to lie in state at the US Capitol rotunda, according to congressional historians, as the Capitol was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The ceremony for the civil rights icon and late congressman was July 27-28.
Following the ceremony in the rotunda, a public viewing began outdoors as a safety precaution. But neither the virus nor warm weather kept crowds from lining up for a chance to pay their respects to Lewis' casket. Lines to the Capitol stretched for multiple blocks all the way to the Supreme Court building.
*Daniel Inouye, the Medal of Honor-winning World War II veteran who represented Hawaii in the Senate for four decades, died in 2012 at 88
Daniel Inouye, the Medal of Honor-winning World War II veteran who represented Hawaii in the Senate for four decades, died in 2012 at 88
Daniel Inouye is the only Asian American to lie in state at the Capitol Rotunda after he died at 88 in 2012.
Inouye was a World War II veteran who received the Medal of Honor and represented Hawaii in the Senate for five decades. He remains the second-longest serving senator in the chamber's history.
Former President Barack Obama described Inouye as "a true American hero."
Inouye was of Japanese heritage and served in a US Army unit made up of Japanese Americans. His battalion was the most decorated unit of World War II.
*Rosa Parks was the first woman and second Black American to lie in honor in the rotunda in 2005 after she died at the age of 92 of natural causes. The civil rights activist is one of four private citizens given this honor.
Former President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush attended the ceremony.
*Capitol Police Officer Jacob Chestnut was the first Black American laid in honor after he was killed in the line of duty in 1998. A gunman fired shots in the Capitol building killing two officers: Chestnut and detective John Gibson. Both of the men were honored by becoming the first private citizens laid in honor at the Capitol, according to congressional historians.
*Abraham Lincoln was the first president to lie in state after his assassination in 1865. He was the second person in US history to receive this honor, according to congressional historians. The first was Henry Clay, a senator and representative, in 1852. The main reason for this: The Capitol wasn't fully constructed until 1829.
A catafalque, a decorative wooden frame to hold a coffin, was built for Lincoln. Since 1865, most services in the rotunda have used Lincoln's catafalque, reports congressional historians.0 -
We humans think we are smart, but an orchid, for example, knows how to produce noble, symmetrical flowers, and a snail knows how to make a beautiful, well-proportioned shell. Compared with their knowledge, ours is not worth much at all. We should bow deeply before the orchid and the snail and join our palms reverently before the monarch butterfly and the magnolia tree. The feeling of respect for all species will help us to recognize the noblest nature in ourselves. -Thich Nhat Hanh

Serenity, YES! The TRUMP VIRUS. That is what it is. I shall be calling it that every opportunity I get.
Aw...too bad for Tony Tenpenny. Was it the Trump virus what killed him or the drinkin' o' the koolaid? Me thinks a lil of both.
Ruth, a beautiful post about RBG still making history as well as a brief history of people lying in state in the U.S. Capitol.
Betrayal, thanks for the PA voting by mail info. My son will be voting by mail in PA, so I will discuss the procedure with him to make sure he does it right.

I try to read the tea leaves around here, so to speak, and by that, I mean observing the public displays of flags and signs for Trump in yards and businesses.
One house in a very prominent area of town, just across from a stop sign on a main road, had numerous large Trump signs and flags displayed in 2016. Then the house was the first to put up a huge Trump 2020 flag--last year. And a few more signs in their yard. Today I drove past the opposite way and thought, hm. Where's those signs. I doubled back around to the stop sign and nothing. No flag or sign. I'm not sure what to make of it. Were they being ridiculed or targetted? If so, we never heard of anything about it. And besides, others in town have their loyalty displayed. I know the same family lives there, I don't know them but I know that house hasn't changed ownership.
Also, my Christian pro-gun neighbor swelled with patriotic pride after last election and stuck a large U.S. flag prominently in the very front of his yard, oddly placed on a pole affixed to the top of the railing of three small steps, as close to the street as possible so everyone could see his new-found patriotism (I’ve flown my flag from Memorial Day to Labor Day for decades). His flag hung there the past four years through the worst storms and never missed a beat. I was surprised to see he replaced it last week with a beautiful, large school flag since his grandson now plays high school football. Not sure if that means anything, either.
And I've seen a few Biden signs around town, not many, but I didn't see a single Clinton one in 2016. Like someone said, Biden supporters may be a bit leery putting out signs for fear of retribution. I would be one of those.
