Exercise today consisted of laundry and pool cover draining since the large block of ice finally melted enough to drain some of it off. Great weather this weekend has me ready for Spring. Can't wait to plant my vegetable garden....

Dulci - thanks so much for the early biking stories - fascinating! The health/safety concerns about women and bicycles echoed the whole silly thing about women not being able to compete in Olympic ski jumping - here's a 2005 quote from Gian Franco
Kasper, president of the International Ski Federation: "Don't forget, it's like jumping down from, let's say, about two meters
on the ground about a thousand times a year, which seems not to be
appropriate for ladies from a medical point of view." Sigh. Seems like some things never change.Ruth - that group of ladies looks like the forerunners of your current Wednesday group.
Pilates this morning. Temps to hit 60 today - woohoo!

BTW, this was ski jumper Lindsay Van's answer to that idiot Kaspar's remarks:
"It just makes me nauseous. Like, I kind
of want to vomit. Like, really? Like, I'm sorry, but my baby-making
organs are on the inside. Men have an organ on the outside. So if it's
not safe for me jumping down, then my uterus is going to fall out, what
about the organ on the outside of the body?"You go girl!

A good motto!

Dulci--very interesting history re: roads being built to accommodate bikes; so much for those who think that bicycles don't belong on roads, eh? That's a terrific picture of you from an earlier incarnation; so how was the home front during World War I?

Today: temperature above 40F? Check. No precipitation? Check. I got out on a real bicycle on real pavement breathing real air, so maybe there's hope that spring might really, actually happen.

ruth....I totally agree!!!!

45 minutes of swimming today....good for the shoulders, rests the knees. It's chinooking here still......spring truly feels like a possibility now....as soon as all these puddles disappear!

Hi Bluetail!
We had a bad ice storm Thursday night. Big limbs down. Trees down (no trees, just huge limbs in our yard). Our electricity was off for 40 hours. It was freezing!
Luckily the ice melted quickly. Saturday and Sunday were in the 60s. Today the temperature was 72 degrees. I "picked up sticks" in the yard and power walked/jogged at the park. Had to dodge a couple of downed trees at the park.

Walked again this evening with my son and dog. 54 degrees feels so good! And near my house on the south side where the snow has melted I see my irises coming up! Woo-hoo! OK most of the yard is still covered with at least a foot of snow but this is a hopeful sign.

Got up and vacuumed, dusted etc., went to yoga, which was particularly blah because the instructor was sick so they just put in a DVD ('real' yoga people also said it was boring, so it just wasn't me), chipped ice & picked up twigs from the backyard, and went to Zumba. It was nice enough for the cats to go out for awhile, so I got some extra exercise chasing cats with muddy feet around the house & then scrubbing their paw prints off the floor!

Beautiful here today, even had my sunroof open at lunch. (Course I was having a hot flash but felt good to feel the breeze in my hair. )
Exercise today consisted of 30 minutes on the Elliptical plus some toning exercises.

30 mins on stat bike; 5 mins on dreaded elliptical. Treadmills were full so just came home. Guess it's that time of year when gym is full of young'uns getting ready for the beach!

Patoo same at our gym I've notice an influx of PYTs. I have the dreaded crazy golden retriever back as the day after her Mom and Dad picked her up after their vacation he had a serious car accident and broke his left leg and right shoulder, he's just been released from hospital and they're scared she'll jump on him so that being said four dogs mean that even though I washed the floors on Saturday today they look like it's been a month ... Lots of little paw prints, sheesh!!!! Nihahi what is chinooking?
Did a Sh'bam class this morning and then tonight rode the only kind of bike I can, the Spin bike for an hour

You are a good friend Cheryl, to dogs too! Ruth, my last Thursday afternoon yoga was a wash and I think it was because our instructor had no yoga mojo. Hopefully, this afternoon will be better.
Yesterday afternoon body balance and last night, freestyle step.

So I never ever got to my taxes last weekend. Met with my trainer saturday morning, working on arms, then off with hubby to do several errands, including getting a new phone and exchanging my broken fitbit. Sunday I spent walking around a travel show with a good friend, we are planning a trip to Alaska for 2015, and got some good ideas. Trying to stay away from the giant cruise ships, if anyone has experience with something smaller please let me know. We also want to see Denali, and get some fishing in somewhere. Met with trainer again yesterday, this time legs. So I've been back to regular exercise now for a couple of weeks, and it is amazing how much better I feel. Why oh why do I allow myself to become a face stuffing slug every winter? Even my jeans went on today with no problem, just out of the wash! Not sure if I will get to taxes this weekend either
having a March birthday party for hubby and 2 friends at my house Saturday (corned beef sandwiches, yum!). Maybe Sunday... at least I need to start!0 -
hbcheryl.....a chinook is a warm, strong wind coming off the mountains..it usually means a rapid temperature change, when it arrives and also when it leaves. Temps can change 10/20/30 degrees sometimes in a matter of minutes. For lots of people, it also means horrific headaches because of the change in air pressure.

Oh! I didn't know what a chinook was either - I thought it was quilting!
)I've heard that temp changes and seasonal changes can trigger headaches due to the change in barometric pressure.

5km run (including tiptoes around the ice and puddles). Going off the grid for a few days.....staying up in the mountains with gal pal...keeping moving everyone.....catch you later!

I guess we are chinooking here too. 54 yesterday. Snow tonight 3 to 7 inches. I knew winter wasn't over!
Ruth I love your reference to "real yoga people". I've been two times and I'm not sure I get it, but maybe this will grow on me like meditation did.
Did my stair-walking routine today at work but not doing any more. This daylight savings time change is kicking my butt.

My activity today has been clearing the yard of more limbs and little sticks. We have several huge piles in front of the house and still have more to collect. Ice storms are Mother Nature's way of thinning trees. It's been a nice 74 degrees today.

So far today: Yoga on the couch. Consisting of sitting with legs on couch, bottoms of feet touching each other and knees all the way down to the couch cushions. Sat that way through an episode of New Girl. Note: not advisable to stay in a position for that length of time.
) Dancing with the Stars starts on Monday - I think I'm going to teach myself how to do the splits next. lol Yes, I've had quite a bit of hot green tea today. 0 -

I'm doing yoga 2-3 times a week...I'm just starting out but sweating my butt off each time and I think I'm doing pretty good this far...the weather is finally getting warmer here in NY so I plan on starting to walk when I can ...prob during my lunch hour at work
