So jealous of the great activities (tubing/dinner cruising)..

Way to go Ginger!! What a proud accomplishment. And Red, you should be very proud as well. Good luck on the date, Claire.

That beach looks gorgeous. Likely won't be able to join you ladies next year Scared as I have my niece graduating HS and my nephew getting married in June 2015. Bummed!!!

Today's exercise was a nice walk this morning before 45 minutes of aqua jogging this afternoon.

Red: Congratulations on your results. Wonderful!

Ginger: Wow! You are such an inspiration!

Cheryl: It's so cool that you were able to attend the convention. Did you feel like a kid in a candy store?

Good Evening everyone! I've been cooking fresh tomato soup with our garden tomatoes and the house smells heavenly now.

Today we attended a family gathering at my brother's house on a huge lake in NC. Lots of food and fun. Played horseshoes and bocce. I never got around to swimming so walked/jogged when we got home.

Not sure about California Dreaming 2015. I will work on it!!!

that was easy; I have always wondered how to upload a photo. This is my friend and I at the finish line. I am in pink. She stayed with me the whole time even though my pace is much slower than hers.

I wish I could join in the California fun but that will most likely be our last week of school.

WTG Ginger, both on the race and the pic!

Walked last night 3.7 miles then 5 miles this morning.  It was muggy and still last night but cool and still this morning with lowering skies.  We could use the rain!

Res is actually Mon-Fri, June 15-19.  Not sure about airports or activities yet, we just needed to secure the rooms.  We can legally sleep 12 so there's lots of space and no one needs to commit yet.  The flurry of e-mails should stop for a while LOL.  ♥ to all

For anyone that takes spinning classes...how hard would it be to do after my exchange surgery? Once I am cleared of course. Are the chest muscles involved? Just thought it must be a way to burn a lot of calories.

Ginger gorgeous picture you have every reason to be proud of yourself. Beth absolutely stay off the spin bike, if you want to bike do recumbent, when you spin you are leaning forward on your hands so your pec muscles are involved then there is all the jumping up to position 2 and then back to 3 then back down. Wonderland really really really try and come, we missed you this year and San Diego is the closest airport to fly into. John Wayne. (SNA) is by me and if anyone wants to fly into there they can ride down with me.

I was invited to a special Body Combat class this morning where they were filming the instructor then afterwards she did Body Flow (LB that's what Body Balance is here in the US) and I stayed and did that, oh my now I am stove up apparently I can do cardio no problem but stretch and relax knocks me out, I just took an ibuprofen to ease my aching backSnooze

Congrats on the tri, Ginger!!! High five to you and your friend. I still need to do one, but will be next year.

My date was a blast, and great fun. Not at all put off by the age difference which was about as I thought.. Seems the initial attraction was watching my backside when I was doing the Seattle-to-Portland!  (All my jokes about good looking men in Spandex. Well, guess what?) Interesting person, and we spent a lot of time just talking. I think we will be seeing each other again.

He liked the dinner I made too. (So did I, and just chicken in sherry sauce and fresh veggies/salad.)

Introduced him to the wonders of Arnica gel as he had trashed his knee rollerblading. So I did a ride earlier in the day and we met up early afternoon. We will do a longer ride soon.

Need to get back to making dinner as a late ride today, and I need to eat. - Claire

Cheryl - sounds like you need to mix more stretching in with your cardio and strength routines, huh?  I don't care for yoga based workouts but I've been a big stretcher since achieving great flexibility on the gymnastics team in high school.

All - Please forgive me if I ever sound preachy about it, but maintaining flexibility is a huge part of aging both gracefully and as injury free as possible.  Strength, balance and flexibility to me are the keys.  So.......reach for the sky and touch those toes like we did in elementary school gym class - it's still good for you!

Cheryl,  The pilates on #65 is not that easy- yet the music is great!  I'm with ya S&S on strength, balance and flexibility.  Ginger, well done to you and what an inspiration!  My older sis does tri and in July completed her first half iron man in Napa.

Ran a 8k this morning and it was the best run I've had all summer.  I ran on a path though fields of harvested wheat and truly felt great to be alive, strong and healthy!

Adding, I'm off to power double step tonight at the gym.

Ginger - congratulations on the tri!!  You've done so much in such a short period of time - you should be so proud of yourself.  Claire - sounds like things are just spinning along nicely for you! Winking

Agree totally S&S on the need for flexibility - I know I have a feeling deep down that I'm not really exercising when I do yoga or other flexibility exercise because I'm not getting my heartrate pounding and I'm not dripping in sweat. So, I tend to avoid it because it's not a "real" workout.  Also, my old Fuelband tended to give me very little exercise credit for an hour of yoga, weight training, or even biking because the arms don't move much during those exercises.  Not much of an incentive to do yoga when I'm trying to meet a daily exercise goal!  But my new Fuelband is the next generation, and now allows me to adjust the exercise credit I get for things like yoga, weight training and biking to better reflect that yes, I really was working out!

Lilac - sounds like a great run - and what a simple joy to run through beauty and feel alive and well and healthy.

Chores N Sculpt this weekend, plus a 4 mile run plus one mile walk cooldown on Saturday.  Nats Bike N Walk last night going to the ballpark and back - a thrilling game we won in extra innings.  It was a good weekend for activity - I recorded over 30,000 steps for both days combined.  Slept in this morning after a late night, so will have to do something tonight to reach my goal.  My running clinic sessions start tomorrow night - should be interesting!

Hi - am new here - just trying to get back in swing of things after whirlwind year - diagnosed last Oct.   Resumed my 3x week spinning classes and doing some hiking/biking as well, but have been hindered due to breast/sentinel node biopsy surgery sites still being tender.  Can't find a bra that gives enough compression/support without binding. Most bras hit right at sentinel node site.  Started wrapping with basically an ace bandage but thought I would check here and get some sage advice from those in the  know.  Any thoughts appreciated.  Tx.

Welcome animallvr!  I'm sorry you have to be here but you've come to the right place for encouragement in your fitness efforts and routine!   I didn't have the sentinel node sensitivity that you're experiencing but I'm sure someone will chime in with suggestions.

So.....whew!!!  Very hot, muggy walk/run tonight.  Fifty-eight total minutes.  Intended to include five 3-minute runs and had a good start on it.  Walked a 15 minute warm-up (I get shin splints if I start right out running).  Then ran 3, walked 3, ran 3, walked 3 etc.  Got to the last half of the fourth 3-minute run and had all I could do to finish it (and I was going downhill at the time!!!).  Figured that was good for this kind of weather and my current level of conditioning (or rather lack thereof) so walked the rest.  I'm content with that.

    Luv y'all!

    Awesome picture, Ginger!

Sounds like a super fun date, Claire.

Welcome Animallvr, I had 11 lymph nodes removed so was really tender for a really long time. I had to play around with bras to find something that bugged me less. If an ace bandage works for you, I don't think there would be any reason not to use it.

I also am always preaching that you need to do some of it all (cardio, strength, toning, flexibility) to really be fit. I religiously stick to my old Richard Simmons recommendations of 4 hours of cardio & 3 of toning/strength a week.

I knew I was going to be busy all day, so got up early & did an hour of spot toning with Denise Austin.

    Hi Animallvr. Welcome.

I did 8484 steps today and the rest of the 16 steps will be up to my bed. Really tired.

Feeling much better, I do stretch every day but I think it was the twisty Pilates part that did me I saw the instructor tonight and she said next time I do her class she is going show me options that will work for me. Animallvr I had that burning regeneration sensation for a long time too I used to ice pack myself daily, as for bras I found Danskin  works for me but I wear two, they are lighter weight and I am a uni so I need the two for support but as they are not so tight they are able to be manipulated.

This morning did Sh'bam and tonight did Body Combat, then as I am house/dog/kid sitting I came home and walked dogs, well I walked one and carried one, she's a little tea cup Yorkie and tires easily.

Went to Core & then for a walk this morning. Now I am off to school for a substitute's workshop. School starts here next week & I guess they are going to try to teach us old dogs some new tricks before then. Loopy
