Hello ladies. I've said a prayer for the difficulties you've mentioned. Sometimes things come in waves. Or (Mommy) the littlest hurt can make the biggest noise like a toe problem!
Tonight my husband joined me on a walk around our nearby lake for 30 minutes. I was so glad as we've been struggling to get his blood sugar in a lower range and he felt good walking. I enjoyed it and DH spotted our resident old snapping turtle waiting for his dinner so that was neat.

Karen, so sad for you. My sister's dog died just a few days before our mother died. Our mother loved that dog. It was hard for all.

Had a hard time in yoga today, got teary. I'm so discouraged by the limitations I have right now what with my arm, below my armpit and my breast. Down dog is not down dog. Even child's pose with my arms in front is painful.

We must be having the only nice weather in the country right now! WWW enjoyed a lovely walk this morning, I did mat pilates, and DH & I took the grandpuppies out to a lake for an adventure this afternoon.

Great picture Ruth...as I sit here in southern VA with the hurricane coming up the coast and a heat index "feels like" 95 at 5pm...I am jealous of your sweatshirts and cover-ups.
Edj - my main exercise (beside walking) is a yoga practice...different styles, but usually 5 classes a week. I have had to rebuild my practice after every surgery (3x)...I would start with yin classes and only move to more active classes and limited participation as time went forward. I am currently 8.5 months since last surgery and at this point can't really remember feeling impeded by the surgeries rather than my own lack of skill/strength. So it will come back and this time will fade... I do still find some poses awkward given the implant in my L-chest, the lying flat on your stomach or twisting/pivoting on the left shoulder so the breast area is being pinched kinds of poses...but I modify and go on. A friend who is an interior designer stopped by today to consult with me on how I can rearrange things. I moved furniture for two hours. I will recruit a couple of guys from the gym to move the sleeper sofa back into my apartment. Need to get there tomorrow. I haven't been to the gym daily lately. Not been feeling well, and worried about the Herceptin and my heart. Hopefully that will soon be sorted out. May have to quit it early.

Karen: So sorry to read about the decline of your dear MIL. Also, so sorry about your precious Mischa. Our pets are family and the pain is very real.
Hi Everyone. It's been awhile since I last posted. I live in the Piedmont area of NC and we are not affected by Dorian with exception of gusty wind today. It hasn't even rained. The damage from the hurricane so far is sickening.
I had my 3 month checkup with my cardiologist for my A Fib a couple of weeks ago. My new medicine is working great so I don't have to see him for another year. I was happy to get good news.
Been walking/running and of course push mowing weekly. Weeds in the yard and garden had gotten out of control so I spent many hours pulling weeds. The okra plants are still producing and we eat it almost every night. I've been freezing a lot of it also so we can enjoy it during the winter.

Another record breaker today in Denver - 98!!
I had my DEXA scan a couple weeks ago - over 4% decline in 2 years in lumbar spine. Oncologist orders my DEXA scans - repeat in 2 years unless put on Tx. Oncologist office called and said that oncologist plans to discuss treatment at my visit the end of the month. He had talked about Zometa last September but I wanted to think about it - and now its off the table due to reduced kidney function - nothing to treat - but just need to stay away from any meds that are hard on the kidneys. I took bisphosphonates when I was on AIs but stopped when I stopped AIs - that was in 2010. I don't mind taking something - I just don't want to be in the infusion room!
i took yesterday afternoon and today off as DH had surgery yesterday - he is home and doing well. A very short work week. I did check emails - read them, but did not respond to any.
Wonder - glad that you aren't in harms way. The devastation in the Bahamas is beyond awful - haven't heard much about the Carolinas -

Did my last training run this morning. The (first) 10K race is tomorrow.
Keeping it real here, I'm nervous about this race--not about finishing, that's not in doubt unless something is catastrophically wrong. But this is the first race since I fractured my pelvis in 2018, and I've got a lot of emotional energy in this one to say a big F U to breast cancer, to melanoma and to that fractured pelvis.

I hope it cools down & things calm down for you, Karen. Remember the Calgon old bubble bath commercial where the stressed lady in the tub says, "Calgon, take me away!" And she is transported to a tropical island (and other blissful places). That is what you need! I imagine that you already take calcium with Vitamin D. A serving of prunes a day can actually build bones. I know that walking in your thing; but for bone building purposes, you might want to incorporate some light weight into your routine a couple times a week.
Good luck with your race, edj. Don't use all that emotional energy right at the start, spread it out throughout the race. We'll be cheering for you!
Yesterday I went to Aqua Zumba & then we went to an out-of-town high school football game. I went to Wake Up Yoga this morning & now I am going to clean the house (it's chilly and rainy so it's a good day for it).

I went to yoga this afternoon & spent 45 minutes on the treadmill. Tomorrow we take off for a 'History Vacation' in Philadelphia with another couple who are our great friends & fellow history lovers. We will be getting lots and lots and lots of walking in!! I will try to post some cool pictures.

karen, I'm so sorry to hear the news about your MIL and Mischa. Hope DH is recovering from surgery. As for bone-building, yoga can also help with this and won't harm your kidneys. Magnesium also helps to metabolize Vitamin D,

Walked along the Rhein river with DH and the dog on a WWF beaver trail. Did not see any beavers though.

Heidi - thanks. DH is doing well, still tired, but everyday is better. It seems like everyday there is something new with my MIL. My niece is amazing; she has done such a fantastic job keeping us informed. She goes back home to Oregon tomorrow afternoon - to her turning 4 year old daughter and wonderful husband. My husband are going in 10 days. We are all of edge wondering what is next. MY MIL is a very strong lady, but her body is just wearing out. We don't want her to suffer.
DD is here for 1 1/2 more days - she leaves Wednesday afternoon - I'm starting to feel bad that I won't be taking her to the airport - my DH will take her - so I will have to get lots of hugs tomorrow night and hopefully before I leave for work Wednesday morning at 7:30. We haven't taken any pictures since she's been in America - but its been kind of hectic. Need to get pictures tomorrow night - especially of DD and daddy - lots of the two of us from this summer.
Good walking today - especially since its a work day - 19+K - sure wish I could get that everyday.

Its been quiet here the past few days - DD#2 is back home in Israel. She left yesterday afternoon. Tuesday evening DH, DD and I had fun taking selfies together - some pretty silly photos.
I can't believe how fast this week went. My work week is over!!
Busy day tomorrow - lab draw in the morning for Nephrologist, eye exam and in the afternoon 6 month check up with hematologist. Got my labs back for him and there a couple that worry me a bit, so I'm curious to hear what he has to say. Hoping that he will say see you in a year! See my regular oncologist and labs for him in 2 weeks. It seems that I get poked for blood way too often.
Rosh Hashanah is in just over two weeks and I haven't even started to plan a menu, never mind start cooking. I'm not planning on having much company. We have one divorced guy friend that we always included. I have a single girlfriend that I always extend an invite but she usually does't come - and thinking of a newer single acquaintance that I might extend an invite. So cooking for 2 or 3 people really isn't much different. My DD#1 and SIL are coming for holidays mid October.
My MIL is supposed to sign the paperwork for hospice tomorrow - and will move rooms on Monday.
After a few good walking days this week - 4 out of 5 18K+, today I'll be lucky to get to 12K. Loving the cooler mornings and evenings. Not ready to give up sandals till its cold!!!
Need to go do some organizing on the kitchen desk.

Karen thinking of you tomorrow with all the appointments and hoping things go well. I was busy today like that.
Exercise has been suffering due to general busyness. Back to plan tomorrow. Heatwave should be over for a few days which will help with motivation.

I am back on the exercise wagon after a nasty reaction to the flu/shingles shots on Monday followed by two business dinners. So thrilled to have a day at home to catch up.
Off to NYC tomorrow on a business trip, so hoping for major walking. Plus a lobster dinner for Sunday evening. Guess who is cooking? Fresh veggies from the market.

That must have been awful, Claire, not that I have ever had a shingles shot. It's not done here as a matter of course. Does it start there at a certain age?

I think the shingles shot is for anyone over 60, though some now do it at 50. All is well now, and I got in the flu shot prior to my three trips this fall.
I have been doing a bit of retail therapy: a new handbag, and a gorgeous new black blazer. Plus a vintage YSL tuxedo jacket which is silk twill and lined with silk. It was initially intended for evening wear, but I will rock it with my black jeans or leggings. I don't think it was ever worn. Just a spectacular piece. It's headed to the cleaner's and I think I will wear it at next Friday's wine club party. This is a new club I just joined and their Seattle branch is in a hip area of Seattle, so think the perfect thing to wear. Plus it doesn't show wine spills!

Today's exercise was take out the old living room rug and sweep and clean the floor that was under it. Have to clean it again in a day or two with Pine-Sol and hot water as there are still parts that need a second cleaning. Also washed my throw blankets to get them ready for the colder weather.

Claire, I had a bad reaction to the shingles vaccine--not the newest one, the one that first came out. I got it a couple of years ago and that was not fun. I still have a huge knot in my arm and happy day, my dermatologist noticed it at yesterday's melanoma check up. He said you want that off? HELL YES I do. So next month, he's going to excise it.

Hi all, so motivating to hear of the various activities everyone is enjoying!
Today DH and I took a breezy walk on the local canal / river path. 40 minutes. A great day to do it and we left for dinner just as clouds started rolling in.

I had my first of two shingles vaccines last month - my arm was sore for several days, turned red and swollen. They say 2 to 6 months for next shot and I'm planning on getting it in 2 months.
Relatively uneventful visit with hematologist. I had labs drawn on the 3rd - the tech asked what am I preferred and I said I already had them so she went to check and didn't do them. When I checked out, the gal told me he also likes to do them right before visit. See him again in 6 months. Medical onc on the 26th - more labs - I also see him every 6 months - want to figure out a way to spread the visits so I don't see them both in one month. Friday had labs for nephrologist. Curious what my creatinine and GFR will be as creatinine was elevated and GFR lower than 6 months ago for nephrologist - and different than last month for nephrologist. Even so where the number are, no treatment - just avoid meds that are hard on kidneys. Was also borderline anemic - first time - but hematologist had no recommendations. Happy to not have scans or add more Rx to my list.
Today is a day to putter in the house - want to start in the garage so we can get both cars in there.

Took the air conditioner out of our bedroom window. Then I grabbed the dog bed that Jackson slept at night in until his death on Tuesday and washed that. Tomorrow is washing a big blanket and my laundry.

OK two of the three Heartland 10K Challenge series are done. Neither were my best races, I'm still finding stamina an issue and I think it's from the rads. So hopefully that will get better. But today was good enough for a first place in my age group, which was a shock to me and TBH I cried. It was nearly 80 at 8 am when the race started, and most of it was on trails (I don't run on trails) so I had no expectations of doing anything other than finishing the race.
