So...whats for dinner?

I love "speckled" butterbeans, which are small and sold in the frozen vegetables section.
Dinner last night was one of our reliable menus. Raos with bulk Italian sausage and linguine. Side was a large, delicious salad with blue cheese dressing.

Black cod tonight; not sure what else will go with it.
My one and only attempt (so far) for a root canal, failed. It was a double fracture; it is now an implant$$$$$$

Wally, Black cod tastes delicious whatever sides you choose. Implants are very expensive but are much more effective and longer lasting than bridges or partials.
Carole, Raos and Italian sausage is one of my reliable standbys, too. I've got some nitrate free sausage so I'll have to make it soon.
Eric, I hope you enjoyed your meal out. Dealing with the IRS is like talking to a stone wall. Good thing the CPA is doing it for you.
Dinner tonight was barbecue beef stew on rice with zucchini.

It should go okay with the IRS. She is a tax attorney, a CPA and an enrolled agent with the IRS.
Tonight was "nothing" for dinner. We ate a late lunch and neither of us was hungry at dinner time.
I have one implant, now about 15 years old and so far, so good. The only way I know which one is the implant is when I get a chance to look at my dental x-rays.

Dinner was a grilled rib eye and boiled new potatoes with butter and sour cream.
It's dark outside this morning. We had rain during the night. Not sure what the weather will be today for the farmers market.

I ended up steaming the sablefish over spinach with a butter/soy glaze and a side of DH's favorite, Japanese short grain rice. Sobbed all through dinner.
Thawing some Italian sausages from costco (and sobbed because i had to thaw fewer than usual)…I think I will cook them in a batch of beans and who knows what else….broccoli or slaw or ??

Our rains have been showing up 4-5 afternoons per week. It starts out sunny. Then the clouds start building up around noon and by 2pm it's windy. Around 4pm the thunderstorms start and are finished by around 5:30pm. The rain amounts vary from nothing to a lot.
The plants are not wasting any time to sprout, grow, blossom and scatter their seeds. It is a verdant green out there. :-)

Carole, I hope you had decent weather for the farmer’s market today. I’ll bet the rib eye tasted better knowing it was on sale.
Wally, So many little things remind you of how things are different. Hugs,
Eric, Predictable weather makes it easier to plan your day. Enjoy the green growth while it’s around.
Dinner tonight was creamy chicken and asparagus.

Easiest meal on earth tonight. After torrential rain all day, DH grilled hotdogs and we had Publix macaroni and potato salads for sides. He had ran to Publix to get a few things, including the salads, and got stuck there during the downpours! So not as easy for him as it was for me. I expressed appreciation 😌

Reader, Easy makes a meal taste better and helps make bad weather more tolerable.
Dinner tonight was a shrimp stir fry with veggies and soba noodles.

DH bought corn at the farmers market on Saturday and has been cooking it in the microwave with the husk on. All these years I have been cutting corn off the cob, and he is eating corn on the cob. LOL. I am gladly turning over corn cooking to him.
We had corn AGAIN last night and leftover pasta dish. We went bicycling yesterday and I was tired. I could easily have had cereal.
Tonight we're in the danger zone for storms with high winds and huge hail.

Carole, I'm impressed that you ride a bike. I'm afraid of them. DH loved biking. I fell off once and that was it for me. Sigh. I'm going to make a capresse salad of sorts and not sure if that is all I will eat or add something to it.
More bills to pay and organize. I've got feelers out for someone to come help with my fridge and roof. We'll see if I get any responses. Still more finance crap to deal with, but dwindling, as are the finances, LOL….my heart goes out to all the widows/widowers…worst journey, EVER.

Sharon was riding a trail bike on a rather rough trail and fell in a particularly rough spot. Her shoulder was sore for about a month. She decided riding is okay, but now walks the bike through the rough parts.
The paperwork, bills and reorganization being a reminder makes the job even more of a "downer".
Carole, I hope the weather forecasts are overly severe and that all is calm(ish).
It is both corn and peach season here. Local corn and peaches from Utah. We shuck the corn, roast it on the grill and chew it off of the cob.
Last night Sharon ate a slice if pizza at the music jam. I had run 4-1/2 miles and my appetite, as usual, disappeared.

Has anybody seen the Olathe corn from Colorado in their stores yet? We used to get some here but not last year. Sorry, but Texas corn just doesn't cut it.
Just finished re-reading "1984". I read it in school, taught it to my junior hi class in 1969 and read it again in the 1980's when my son was in school. Lots of things I had forgotten and of course my viewpoint has altered on many things with age. Still - it's a sad prediction.
Udon Noodle bowl for dinner last night with added veggies. I like them better if I add less water than stated in the instructions. Leftover chicken salad from Chicken Salad Chick via the freezer tonight.

My mother-in-law's television will not show even over the air signals without an active internet connection. The television reports back viewing and "channel surfing" information. I joke that it's sending information to Ingsoc. :-)
The oven is warming up for another batch of sourdough bread loaves.

Oh Eric how I would love to have some of your sourdough bread.
Corn season is in full swing here although local corn is nearing the finish.
Tonight is pan fried pork chops with sautéed spinach and some applesauce.

The corn here is “regional” but not yet local. What we had tonight tasted better than corn shipped from the mid Atlantic states but not as good as the fresh picked variety. What I have seen growing looks like it won’t be ready until September.
Carole, Hopefully the weather will not bring any vehicle damaging large hail.
Wally, The paperwork and bills are the pits. I hope you find some good repair people.
Eric, The sourdough bread looks delicious. The local cable company threatened to get rid of cable boxes but the internet service (provided by them) is unreliable enough to make them keep the status quo.
Minus, Are you having Dilly chicken salad? I’ve taught “1984” too many times to ever want to read it again. I just finished “Whisperer” by Ann Patchett.
Dinner tonight was Angus strip steak, corn on the cob and potato salad.
1 -
Maggie: Right on for "1984". But I still somehow feel obligated to find a copy of "Brave New World" and read that again too. I like Ann Patchett and am looking forward to "Whisperer".
And Eric - the bread looks delicious!!!!!!!!!

Homemade chicken enchiladas from the Philadelphia Cream Cheese cookbook and green salad with the usual veggies was dinner tonight.

I remember a discussion last winter about how long we had to run the tap to get hot water for a shower or bath. ha ha ha In Houston it doesn't matter how long I run the tap, I can never get water that is under 80 degrees, and usually much hotter.
In any case, it was mild today - only 100 degrees in the shade instead of 102+

Minus, "1984" is one of my favorite books in my private library. First time I read it was back in Senior year of high school. Had trouble following it. Read enough just to do the homework. Went back to it in my 20s and its been a favorite since then. I also read "Animal Farm" back in 8th grade. Did a paper in college about the political themes in books and those were two of the sources I used along with Frank Herbert's "Dune".

We could have used some rain, but the stormy weather split and went north and south of us. No golf-ball-sized hail or strong winds.
We changed our minds about going to Clancy's for dinner last night. Instead we had a veggie dinner. Fresh green beans cooked with a small amount of bacon and new potatoes. Eggplant slices breaded and pan fried. All veggies purchased at the farmers market. I usually peel eggplant but decided to leave the peeling on since the eggplant was so newly picked. We agreed that peeling is preferable. The peeling is bitter and tough.
Eric, your bread loaves are beautiful and similar to what I buy at the farmers market for $10 a loaf.
Minus, we set our thermostat for 80 degrees when we depart in May. DH commented this morning that the a/c must be running a lot this summer with the temperatures reported. As August marches on, I am beginning to look forward to going home at the end of September.

Carole, It's good the storms missed you. I always peel eggplant unless it is the small variety that shows up in the winter months.
Minus, You seem to be in dystopian novel mode. A "cool" temperature of 100 degrees in the shade is terrible. I suppose what you save on heating water you spend on air conditioning.
Reader, Those brand name recipes are often very good. I have a couple of paperback cookbooks that are collections of recipes from product labels and ads.
Dinner tonight was mushroom ravioli.

Dinner was cheddar cheese brats, simmered in beer and browned in a skillet. A delicious salad with farmers market ingredients and blue cheese dressing. AND… corn on the cob. The last two ears.
The temperature got down into the 40's last night. Great sleep under the comforter and a fleece blanket. Dh was up first and turned on the heat pump to warm up the camper.

I wish I could tell DH how amazing it has been this summer, so far. 😭
I thawed some boneless, skinless chix thighs. I'm going to make some sort of asian noodle dish…sobbed all morning. Udon was DH's favorite noodle. Literally, EVERYTHING reminds me of him…😩

Hugs Wally. Not an easy time.
it's been in the high 50F degree range at night. Tonight we are in the middle of a severe thunderstorm. The dogs are nervous about the near continuous rumble, and power keeps going off for a few seconds before coming back on, so far about 5 times in the past hour. This is normal for overhead lines in a lightening storms.
At the risk of jinxing things. I'm pleased with the work the utility company did out here in this area to improve the power reliability.

Eric: I would be happy to be w/o power for awhile if we could just get some rain. 101 again today under my patio cover on the North side of the house.
Wally: Thinking of you every day.
1 -
Carole, Cool temps at night really helps you sleep better.
Wally, We’re here for you. Hugs.
Eric, Hopefully your power will remain on.
It’s been much hotter than usual this summer but nowhere near the temperature in Texas. It has also been drier but last spring was wet and cold.
Dinner tonight was salmon with teriyaki sauce, cauliflower and tater tots for DH.
1 -
Hugs, Wally. Every day is a challenge for you, full of memories that bring tears. Such an ordeal.
We had rain during the night but no stormy weather.
Dinner was a shared large pork chop, breaded eggplant slices browned in skillet (peeled), and a wonderful salad. I could have omitted the pork chop. We didn't eat all of it.
DH's picture was on Facebook today on the Eagle View Golf Course website. He was holding his little Hole in One keepsake. He got lots of comments from friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed the attention.
