A plastic surgeon was not available for my cousin's mastectomy. She has been using a crocheted "knocker" for years, and the whole experience was so traumatic for her that she has had no interest in getting further surgery. Never thought of getting lefty taken. She fed my babies better than righty, who was troublesome almost from the time she budded. Good riddance after so many biopsies.
I missed the dog-show!!
Here is my 18-pound Shh-tzu mix. Tippy.

Tippy! The famous button loving dog. It’s nice to see him. ❤️
My Dalmatian passed at about 12 years. He had glaucoma, ended up blind in both eyes. But he got around fine in the house and in the yard. Only when I called to him while outside did he get disoriented, I learned quick to just go get him. Then I noticed a swollen lymph node in a hind leg. Turned out to be cancer. I did put him through some treatments, but should have probably stuck with steroids. He was my love bug. He’s buried in my back yard, wrapped up in his comforter, with a few toys I think.
My driveway was postponed again. Big storms hitting now, but earlier was just a short rain burst. I kind of expected it. We’re now shooting for 9/9, fingers crossed. Right now 30 miles north of us is the bad storm - rain, lightening, hail and a tornado touched down. I think my area will be spared. It’s dark & windy and maybe we’ll get some rain.I spent today dusting everything, downstairs, upstairs and the front porch too. I took the robot vacuum upstairs with me, after it recharged from the downstairs & porch. Pledge & Windex were my assistants. How it gets so dusty I don’t know. Vacations back to back really didn’t help the house, but they did help me!
Jaspercat, welcome to the group none of us ever wanted to be in.

jaspercat, sorry I missed your message. As cindyny stated, welcome to the club no one wants to belong to. However, we all have experienced BC and are ready, willing and able to comfort and support you.
Please feel free to vent, ask questions and lean on us. There are others on here that have had similar experiences and yes, in our age group there is sometimes a bias from the medical practitioners. Just remind them that you are the one experiencing this and you need to have answers, not judgment.
You seem to want reconstruction and were told it wasn't possible at the time of surgery. Were you given a reason why? Are they awaiting the pathology report? What plan have they discussed with you?
You said you were feeling overwhelmed and,I for one, can attest that this is common. Before your next visit, write down questions or concerns you have, ask if you can tape record their responses because emotions can block our ability to think logically. Do you have someone you would feel comfortable with that could accompany you?
Please continue to post. We are here for you.

When I wake up, I expect things to be good. If they're not, then I try to set about trying to make them as good as I can 'cause I know I'm gonna have to live that day anyway. So why not try to make the most of it if you can? Some days, they pan out a little better than others, but you still gotta always just try.

I’m having all sorts of issues here this morning. You might get this picture 3 times. Anyway. Tansi is a Dark Golden who was just a pup here. She’ll be a year old in a week. Echo is a 1.5 year old Shepherd mix. Can’t say they’re all that well behaved but they are getting better. Tansi barks at all noises, both real and imagined. 🙄 We’re trying to work on that. Echo is a nervous Nellie, but she was a rescue so who knows what she went through before she was found at 8 weeks. They are a huge part of our lives. We’ve had dogs all our lives. I love seeing all the pictures of the dogs!
jaspercat, I’m so sorry you’ve joined this club, but welcome. These women have all been an inspiration to me, I was diagnosed in April, had a lumpectomy with sentinel nodes followed by 4 weeks of radiation. I told my surgeon I would not do chemo (strictly my opinion for myself) since I was older (73) and my kids were older, plus both my parents died of cancer. My mother died when I was 12. My surgeon told me that sometimes they focus too much on treating the disease and instead of the patient. I so appreciated her saying that. My faith and my family are getting me through.Wishing you the best and I’ll be praying for you through this journey.

@l1ttlec I received your pictures both ways. Your dogs are lovely. My favorite dog was a shepherd mix. I love that your surgeon believes on focusing on the patient. I know God will be by your side whatever your decision.
@mcbaker You can see Tippy has an attitude in this picture. Love it!
@jaspercat I need to add my welcome. We are here for you!

Hi, all.
I have my visit to the cancer center, this morning. It has been 7 years since my diagnosis. In some ways it feels like yesterday. The labs that have come in are in normal range. They changed my Prolia injection to Stoboclo. I have never heard of it. Have any of you?
taco, Happy belated anniversary
canarycat, love the photos

Spread last 4 (of the 100) bags of mulch today. It's a beautiful day with sun, low temps and low humidity, so in other words ideal garden weather. I spread it on last years fence enclosed landscaping at the very bottom of this steep bed. DH cut an opening in the fence so I can access it from there and I also have access at the top for mulching there. If the bushes continue to fill in, then less mulching in the future. This area is predominantly bushes. I'd have to look at last year's invoice to tell you exactly what they are, but some flower in the spring and the others are low evergreens.
So DH and I actually hauled 91 of them with DGS helping with hauling and spreading 9 of them. It is estimated that each bag weighs an average of 35 lb. so no wonder my biceps look good. DH takes them where I intend to work and then I lift them to the starting point. The most I've done per day is 10 (~ 350 lb), so that's a good bit of weight shifting. I do use my knees for lifting now that they are usable again. Saves my poor back which has been in protest for the past few days.
DGS splattered grease on his face while cooking. It got his nose and right above a eyebrow. DDIL took him to a CHOP facility and he has a second degree burn. They gave him Polysporin to apply. Not sure what he is taking for pain though. It's from the tip of his nose to the bridge and I am sure is sore. He just got a job and is waiting for them to tell him a start date so I am hoping it is delayed a bit longer so he can heal. I really feel for him. He needs to see a burn specialist due to location of the burn.
Trying to play catch-up on indoor chores. I have been a bit lax lately, and doing just straightening up as I go. How do we get so much clutter? DH leaves trails as he moves through the house and he still hasn't figured out how I know he has made lunch, gotten into a snack, etc.
Hope everyone has a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

We spent the morning, and part of the afternoon, at my cousins wake, funeral service and burial. He was a captain in the Navy, serving for 38 years. Amazing service, with an amazing group of fellow Navy men showing up at his service. Very emotional day.
We got home and SO went out to grab some items at the grocery store. Well he called me from the car dealership, his drivers side window dropped down into the door; a part broke, window intact. I picked him up at the dealers, and we left the car. Turns out they wanted $1,004 to replace the window regulator. He questioned them but the parts guy had left for the day. We went back down and took the car home. It’s got a clear plastic garbage bag covering the window now. The part should be less than $100, and my god son can put it in. Or we can try, YouTube video is available.
Weather today was perfect. I was out deadheading roses and my butterfly bush before 8 AM, 62 & sunny. Tomorrow seems to be similar but includes afternoon rains. I’ll be heading to a gf house early to dig up some lilies. Then back home to plant them before the rain hits.
Petite, I’ve never heard of the new injection drug they put you on. Someone in here might have. Hope it works the same with no SE.My neighbors had a beautiful pink rose of Shannon in their front yard. The dh trimmed it drastically and I feared destroyed it. But when it bloomed it was beautiful. Then last week I saw it was leaning, or my mind went to him trimming it too much on one side. But then with a few days it had toppled over! I even checked my Ring camera to see if anyone knocked it over: 7:20 pm I could see it, but by 9:40 it was flat on the ground. I think it rotted. Today they sawed off the base, threw on a bag of mulch, and put a pot of flowers on top. 🤷♀️ I’m thinking if any of it survived, it can send up shoots, and they’ll get something back.

I too enjoyed the dog pictures. Chris, I have always envisioned Tippy as being larger and couldn't figure out how you could put him in your basket. The pic certainly clarified my thinking. Not only smart but cute. Waiting for the cat pictures now.
Quiet weekend. Weather is still unseasonably hot - in fact I didn't even golf this week. It's supposed to finally get under 110 starting tomorrow. I've been watching golf and trying to clean up my genealogy data base. Using the program I do, the same location can show multiple ways which drives me crazy. Been working on my Dad's side. Haven't done that in several years.
Sending hugs to all who needs one.

Betraysl, I thought of you today. I went to a gf house and dug up a lot of plants. I got yellow lilies (might be day lilies, bloom long gone), a dusty rose colored clematis, about 30 allium bulbs, and 3 mystery bulbs.
I dug up all the plants after a 2.5 mile walk. I was sweating up a storm. Then I got home, and after a quick lunch, I had to go plant them all. Double work in one day. I got everything planted where I want it, although I’m sure it will be a surprise next spring when I see them in bloom. It started raining as I was finishing up. Gave me a rest, but it wasn’t enough rain for newly planted stuff, so back out with the hose I went. I’ll sleep good tonight!6 -

I’m venting!
Feel free to skip, my feeling won’t be hurt.
I’ve got areas on the front of both shoulders that itch like nobody’s business. It’s been about 5+ days. No new meds, no new laundry detergent, no rash, no hives, no pain, no tingling - nothing has changed. Started happening at night (8-9pm), but occurred today before took my walk 9:30 AM. As I walked with my phone in my left hand, my right hand was used to stab my fingernails into the right shoulder area - trying not to actually scratch it.
I’ve tried cortisone, nothing. Tried topical Benadryl, no help. Ice packs numbed the areas so I’ve been using them.Last night at 9 PM I sent a note thru the portal to my dr office. At 3:10 pm today they replied I need to be seen, call the office for an appointment.
I called. Note, my dr is on maternity leave but a PA & a NP is covering for her. When we call now we no longer get the office, we get a group call center. After being on the phone for 20 minutes, it was picked up by a woman. She looked me up, said I just missed a 3:30 appointment. So she looked further and said there is a Friday appointment but the PA requires longer appointments so she’d have a nurse call me back.
Two hours later I received a call back. She said I see you want to be seen, we can get you in September 18. I laughed, near 3 weeks away for a severe itch driving me nuts? She said it’s the first available. I said, forget it, and I hung up. Additionally, I’m not here on 9/18, I’ll be in Texas. So I’d assume they’d push it out until 9/23 or later, after I return.Tonight I replied to their portal where they were telling me I needed to be seen. I said as they couldn’t see me in a reasonable time, I’ll try to get into my dermatologist. If he can’t get me in, I think I’ll go right to the dr office - enough of 3rd party setting up appointments.
My research, granted through the internet Google AI, came back with neuropathic itch. Could be a nerve pinch in the spine that sends faulty nerve signals; shingles - not likely; diabetes- which I don’t have.
Right now I’m using campho phenique that a gf recommended - her husband has an itch that drives him nuts (his dr thinks a med & sun). It seems to help, but boy I forgot about the smell! And worse case scenario, I can always put ice packs back on me before bed.I hope your day played out better than mine.

@cindyny Wow, what a run-around! My HMO uses a call center now too and it is new and riddled with problems. I really preferred direct scheduling. You might try Salonpas cream which has some lidocaine in it for a severe itch. Works great on bites but I use it for other itches. Your scenario mimics the type of things my RN DD hears from her patients in the ER. They go there because they can't get in to see a doc. Last night she said there was a four-hour wait which is typical. It is also why I went to the local Urgent Care instead of the ER when I fell and broke my leg. I figured if it was more than just a sprain at least I would know the wait would be worth it and if I went straight to the ER they would want to do all sorts of additional tests given my dx. Arghh!!! Turns out the lower fibula was broken and they put me in a boot, and then I got a specialist appt on Monday (it was a Friday of course.) I ended up with just a boot anyways although it was nice to hear it from an orthopedist. It is healing nicely BTW.

Cindy, my dh is recovering from a rash on his back that appeared with no apparent reason. He went to a local clinic and got a prescription cream and antibiotics. After about a week of applications of the cream, the rash is diminishing. The mystery is what caused it. Hope you get relief.
6 -
Cindy, I'm with Intolight and quite often I go to urgent care for things like you are experiencing. I've generally had real good luck that way. Do you have an urgent care that you can go to? My PCP's office is only via call center now too and I really, really don't like that I can't call the office. Thankfully, I still can reach the oncologist's office directly by phone or MyChart. Good luck!

cindyny, sorry to hear about your mysterious rash and hope it disappears soon. Have you found anything that offers relief yet? I hear you about getting in touch with your PCP or getting an emergent appointment. Non-existent these days.
I hate talking to the office appointment call centers most of the time, but did have one who went the extra mile to get me an earlier appointment and called me back when she had one available. It was a first and I was so pleased that she cared.
I did have an experience with my pain management office where they make appointments as you leave. However, they schedule my next appointment at a distant office and never told me this. when I showed up at this office, they said I needed to be at this other one and I was really annoyed. I told them to cancel it since I was never going to be able to make it and asked why they would do this knowing I always come to this office to be seen? No reply. Haven't been back. I saw the PA and really liked her. Sent a message via portal explaining what had happened and heard nothing.
I've been trying to catch-up with housework indoors, so floors were mopped and vacuumed. I will finish dusting today. I worked on the counted cross stitch for several hours over the past 2 days and have to say progress has been slow. I can finally see the outline of one flower and there are many more after this. This is going to be a herculean effort to finish, but I will keep in mind it is for DD and DSIL and keep on plugging.
DGS got splashed on his nose and eyebrow area with hot grease while cooking. He was taken to CHOP and referred to a burn specialist for follow-up. He saw someone yesterday and was given Silver Silvadene cream to put on it. When I worked with pediatric burn patients we used a cream that lead to this development. It was messy, stained our uniforms if we weren't careful and had to be slathered on under copious dressings. They healed well with minimal scarring then and now. He says it is not painful.
Very warm today and rain was expected for this afternoon. There was a sprinkle this morning , but it was really brief. Tree service was to come to today to remove a dying walnut and to trim a crab apple. In the interim we found a dying tree in the woods. We notified the one neighbor they were having to use the driveway briefly for the walnut tree for both the bucket truck and the chipper. We forgot to tell the neighbor up the hill and of course, she sends me an email telling me she needs the driveway and when will they be there specifically. With most contractors the time span they give you is morning or afternoon with no specifics. They were to call, but didn't and showed up around 3:30. They trimmed the crabapple by just shaping it rather than doing a major cutback. He said it doesn't need it now and I trust him. He took down the walnut and then scoped out the dying tree in the woods which was an oak. He asked if I wanted it removed or if he could just drop it. I told him to just drop it and he didn't need to take it all the way down, he could leave a few feet of trunk. He climbed it himself and took it down in sections which they dropped. They did cut up the top branches and then he leveled it using his men to pull it over in the woods. Sorry to lose an oak, but had concerns it would take out ham radio tower or our shed it if went down. It wasn't a large tree girthwise, but beyond what we could handle. He had given me a quote for the original work and I had told him to add the oak to that. When they finished, he gave me a new quote which was several hundred dollars less than his original quote. when I questioned why since they did more than I had originally gotten a quote for, he said it took less time than they anticipated. He said the tree business doesn't pay anymore due to equipment costs, repairs, getting qualified workers or even ones he can train are scarce now, and this is a business his Dad owned. He only has daughters and said even if he had a son, he wouldn't encourage him to follow in his footsteps. I'm hoping he stays in business so we can continue to use his services since he does good work, they clean up after themselves and don't gouge us.
DSIL made closing on her DF's house yesterday so she has rid herself of all the major issues for his estate. She is still wrangling with Vanguard and a few other annuities. Having been the executrix for both parents estates, I know what a nightmare this can be. Endless phone calls to annuity companies that keep asking for more documentation, you submit it and they reject it. So you have to start practically all over again. Getting in contact with a responsible, caring person is luck of the draw and you are at their mercy. They celebrated last night with sparkling wine and a meal at our favorite Italian restaurant. She has been on a merry go round trying to settle this estate since January. It takes a toll.
Want to finish dusting after dinner and then taking it easy because my neck has been bothering me. I think it is from leaning over the cross-stitch stand and I am finding that some of the light colors of embroidery thread are impossible to see at night, so I work on it when there is better light.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone.

Hard to believe that it is already September! Time passes too fast. The campground Labor Day potluck is this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday, depending on weather. The meal planned is ham, potato casserole and other dishes. I have ordered a sheet cake for my contribution. This get-together is the traditional end-of-the season occasion. By mid-month, most people will winterize their campers.
I noticed some colored leaves on trees yesterday at the golf course. The day was perfect for golf, and I enjoyed playing 9 holes with two likable women.
Cindy, I hope your rash is better. Betrayal, dh would have liked to examine that walnut wood for some usable chunks for turning bowls.
Happy Wednesday to all.

Today is her birthday and I only thought it fitting to post this in her memory. RIP Christa.
If anything, the overriding emotion is gonna just be excitement.

Betrayal, have you had cataract surgery yet? I had a tough time threading a needle last night, but the scissors were dull and left fibers beyond the end of the thread. Got out some good scissors and under good light finally got it threaded. I am re-doing my doily collection. I had a bunch of them with pineapples and decided to work them into it. It was a very popular motif back when.
Carol, I wish you could pass through Tomah on your way home. At the intersection of I90 and 94.
Cindy, is it a bunch of spider bites?
Taco, I may try to get a picture of my bike with dog in basket, maybe me on bike, too.
I go to get earmolds made and choose my new HA's today. Tomorrow I will go to the orthotic place and get my leg casted for a brace. Important things going on here.

My itch - I didn’t haven’t a rash, it just itched. The skin looks like any other part of my skin, normal.
I did get in to my dermatologist yesterday at 9 AM. He examined me, using his eye scope up close and saw nothing.
I have darier’s disease - a rash resembling prickly heat that runs a nerve across my left rib cage. It hasn’t acted up in years - knock on wood! He checked it, it’s a mild case to begin with, but all looked good. It’s a rare genetic disease. Shoulders don’t have anything on them.
He recommended I use the same steroid cream I use for darier’s - a .1% steroid cream that I mix in a container with Aveeno, to apply 2x a day; I store it in the refrigerator. And he doubled up on my antihistamine meds, wanting me to take a Zyrtec at night, in addition to my Claritin D 24 hr daily morning pill.Last night was my first dose with Zyrtec and cream on my shoulders after showering. No itch overnight, and it didn’t wake me up. So far so good.
I’ve been digging up plants & replanting them, and yesterday I cleaned out everything I could from our bedroom in anticipation of it getting painted. Well, that and it rained all day, making it perfect to consider indoor chores. This morning, with no itching lol, I noticed my back was killing me. I found a tube of Biofreeze gel and used a plastic bag to protect my fingers as I rubbed that all over my sorest spot. I have a roll on but it’s upstairs somewhere in a travel toiletry bag. Boy, that felt good. Then I made an appointment with my chiropractor muscle therapist for Friday at 10AM, her first available.
I did get out for a walk, slower and shorter but it was perfect 68 degrees & overcast weather. Loosen up my back.
I just saw a trainer from my gym, the gym forced to close during Covid, has passed away. Total shock, she was 6 years younger than me. She was a lovely person, funny and kind. It’s another overcast cooler day with rain north & south of us. We’re hoping to stay dry.

August was a blur for tick magnet me. The deer finally got me! ☹️
I was admitted to the hospital because I had a serious infection from tick-borne illnesses (septic shock from babesiosis and Lyme disease).
I returned home taking 3 medicines.
No appetite. 😜
I lost 22LBS during August.
The last dose of medicine was on August 30th.
My appetite has returned. 😋

Good morning. I arrived in North Carolina yesterday. I did have one dead mouse in a trap. I just puttered around the cabin and just enjoyed the mountains and the cooler air. Today, I will get supplies and do some cleaning, blow leaves and twigs. I have several dead trees and larger branches laying in the yard. One is a very tall skinny one, that fortunately missed the house and power lines. I need to hire someone to remove these. One of my neighbors helped me with this kind of stuff, last year, but he is back in Florida and won't be up until next week. I will do what I can.
I saw 2 deer in the yard. I tried to take pictures, but they blend in with the trees. The photo did not turn out well.
Chris, I had cataracts removed and lens implants.
