It would be nice to feel that we are a better world, a world of more compassion and a world of more humanity, and to believe in the basic goodness of man.

Yesterday we took a road trip to Grand Forks, ND, to tour the Ralph Engelstad Arena. He was a student and hockey player at NDSU. As a successful businessman, he donated 104 million dollars to build the arena in the late 1990's. It's "famous" among hockey fans. I'm not a hockey fan but enjoyed the tour. The corridors have marble floors and the seats in the arena are upholstered in leather with cherry wood arm rests. The ice rink is quite pretty, and the whole facility is pristine. DH bought a long-sleeved shirt in the gift shop for his great nephew who is a high school hockey player in an elite league. He plays for a team in New Hampshire.
Afterwards we had a late lunch at the Blue Moose Bar and Grill. We both had burgers and fries. The meal served as lunch and dinner.
Ice hockey, understandably, is not popular in the south. With no frozen ponds in neighborhoods or ice rinks in every town, southern children don't learn to ice skate. Here in MN and in other northern states, the sport is very popular.
Today is another gray day. I plan to go to the gym. I think this is the last day covered by our Any Time Fitness membership.
Happy Friday to everyone.

@carolehalston - Sounds like a real nice day out. I'm no hockey fan, but I know what you mean about enjoying the tour. I also know what you mean about hockey being a more northern state thing. I'm in the Puget Sound area and when I was in Jr. High, one of our favorite places to go for week-end hangouts (and to meet boys, etc. 😉) was a nearby ice rink. Some of the boys in my high school were on a local team that played there. Happy Friday to you too, and I hope all have a good week-end.

Cranfest weekend!! I am going to be there, first time in 20 years. Taking tickets for the breakfast at our little church there. Report for work at 5:00 AM. I have been backing up my bedtime, got it to 7:30 PM. So now I will get to work putting up meals for the week. We have hockey kids on our block, and the rink is a block away. So true.

Hi & Happy Fall Season,
Petite1, So sorry for your loss. There is something down south with that too! Is that where he was? My grandson was eating raw oysters in New Orleans this past July and afterwards there was the deaths of people that had consumed raw oysters. I was concerned causes he is only 8.
CindyNY, my hubby and I are also heading down to Cocoa Beach FL the following week after election day. We aren't snowbirds yet due to the fact my hubby is still working. We will return after about 10 days. Hubby despises flying now, so we drive.
McBaker, I used to like to make homemade cranberry sauce, now I just get ocean spray. A festival sounds like fun.
I sent my cold cap system back to Arctic Cold Caps before last Weds 3rd chemo round. It wasn't really working and the price of dry ice doubled so I will wear scarves and deal with the hair loss.
I am dealing with some bone aches from the neulasta patch but I just don't want to take another pill for that too.
I did walk for 1.5 miles which is ok. I should do that every day.
Have a great weekend everyone. Prayers for those near the eastern shore.

petite1, vibrio in raw shellfish is not uncommon. Sorry this happened to him and to your family.
Carole, your trip to the ice rink sounds like fun. We have an ice rink in the area with a youth league hockey. It is a popular sport in this area. I grew up ice skating on lakes near our house. Parents were both ice and roller skaters so we all grew up skating at a
n early age.
Chris, that cranfest sounds like fun. A woman I used to work with made the most delicious cranberry mold salad. It had mandarin oranges and nuts in it. Have fun.
suzieq64, we used to give patient's Claritin before they had their Neulasta to alleviate bone pain. It's over the counter. Perhaps someone here can tell you dosage.
DD and DSIL stopped by yesterday and brought me a huge mum for my front porch. It prompted me to remove the summer decor, get it ready to be stored in the shed and replace with the fall decor. It took me the better part of the afternoon to clean the porch and finish decorating it. The new wreath I bought has velvet pumpkins and ribbons so I sprayed them with a water repellant. I cleaned the door and side lights, too.
I was able to purge some of the older fall floral pieces and still had enough to complete the porch. I need to buy some pumpkins.
Today DH, DD and DSIL went to the Temple football game. I had the house to myself so I was able to spend some time working on the cross stitch. Progress is very slow, and it continues to be a challenge. I am trying to fill in the empty areas and will rethink my approach on the other 3 squares. I think I need to complete one row at a time even if it requires multiple thread changes.
I hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to everyone. Can't explain why the photos are where they are.

Susieq, my half brother lives over in Cocoa, FL. He worked for NASA and settled there. We love that area.
Carole, I think my SO would love the ice rink tour. We grew up skating outdoors on anything that would freeze. Mostly ponds, with big bonfires, and music over the speakers. But gf up the street from me - as kids her & I would skate on the baseball field if it iced over. It was across from her house, up the street by 3 houses from me, on a dead end street. We’d go bumping along, it was never smooth, pretending to be Peggy Fleming. Good times.Chris, cranberry fest sounds great.
Betrayal, great pics of your fall decorations. I put some of my fall stuff out too.
Fall decorations - 3 small scare crows, 1 for each planter on my steps, were eaten up by mice. I had them in the front of the detached garage but they got moved to the way back. Well, 1 had its hat eaten off, and 1 had its pant leg chewed up - by mice. The 2 big scare crows are way past their prime, but I think 2 yrs back I did some DIY fixes, so I put them out too. The only person who could see them up close is the mailman, and I don’t think he cares. I also have some metal garden fall items the mice can’t bother - they’re out in front too.
Last was 2 pumpkins I grabbed at Aldi’s for $3.95 each, on the front steps. I wanted 3 but there was only 1 left in the bin, so I’ll grab another one soon. I need to check in the attic for my front door wreath. One year fake acorns were chewed up on the wreath; I turned them around and carried on like it was normal. HAHA I think there are 3 wreaths in the attic; one is metal wire round up, with orange terra cotta pieces on it - mice can’t bother that one. Betrayal, none of mine are as beautiful as yours. The nor’easter headed at the east coast - if you’re in its path, heed warnings, it looks bad. My area looks to be getting 1”+ of rain. But coastal areas are looking at flooding and power outages. Be safe!

SuzieQ64 - I took the generic Claritin (don't remember what it's called but you should find it near the real stuff) and it seemed to help the joint pain.
My Ella ice skates here in Phoenix and they have an active hockey program.
Be careful you east coast folks. That storm looks wicked. I'm glad DD got a generator.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.'

I think I’m either getting a cold or allergies are hitting me hard. I slept almost 9 hours overnight. And right now I feel like I could zonk out and take a nap.
My long sleep had me running late. But I did grab that Fall door wreath and refreshed it. Took paint to the fake acorns and straightened out the leaves - wire inside them and a lot of them were folded over. Anyway, it’s done and so am I.
I picked up my Grandniece and we spent the day hanging out watching DVR shows on my tv. I think she had no plans, raining all day, and would rather hang at my house than home with her mom. We haven’t seen each other since before our Texas trip; she sees her mom daily, even at school where mom works.
Tomorrow I want to wash down the walls & baseboards in our bedroom. The handyman will be here 9/29 - if it’s ok weather he’ll be outside. If it’s not, he’ll be inside doing our bedroom. So I need to be ready, because if I’m not… you know he’ll need to be inside.
Hoping you all had a good weekend.

It rained all day yesterday. This afternoon we're supposed to have some sunshine.

Here is something that Princess Kate shared with those who completed the Three Peaks Challenge, but I think applies to anyone on here who has been diagnosed with BC:
Each arrived with their own story.
A chance to reflect on resilience, recovery and adversity.
And to recognise the families, friends and communities who provided strength along the way.
Because some journeys may begin alone, but none are possible without the support of others.

Yesterday was a lovely day, sunny and mild. It was good to venture outdoors after a rainy day. Our small campground is lovely with the golden leaves in the trees and on the ground. Elsewhere there is some red among the gold. The drive to town offers some beautiful fall color. Still, I am ready to return home to Louisiana back to our house. I don't enjoy the transitions, house to 5th wheel, 5th wheel to house, but they're a necessary part of living in two places. DH hasn't wanted to leave until the golf course closes and men's golf league ends.
Yesterday I did a couple of loads of laundry, using the washer and dryer in our pleasant little laundry room. I visited with two other couples. One couple was closing their camper for the winter. The other couple live in their camper during the summer, as we do. They will be heading to Arizona this week where they own a park model camper and live the other months of the year. By next Monday the campground will be deserted except for the owners, who have a beautiful house on the grounds and a man who rents one of the two condos.
Happy Monday to everyone.

Good morning. The last 2 mornings I wore a long sleeve shirt to walk. Going back to the 90's this coming weekend.
SuzieQ64 - He was in Pinellas County Fl. Per the Health Department he was the 5th recent death from Vibrio.
I also took Claritin and it did help with the joint pain. I also had thigh pain, which it helped.
Betrayal - your decorations are warm and welcoming.

A rainy day here. The Valley News out of Fargo covers a large area including our lakes country. I heard this morning on the Fargo tv station that some places got 5 to 8 inches of rain during the night. We had rain, but not that much. The rivers and lakes can use some water after a dry summer. I have some tasks here in the camper that I've been neglecting. I can't start packing up until the final couple of days, which will be Thursday and Friday.
Happy Tuesday to all.

These Vibrio deaths are tragic. I didn't realize they were so common. Is it just more of a warm water thing? I remember when I was a kid, my father would annually get a big gunny sack of live oysters from a co-worker. They would come from just outside Puget Sound on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. He would sit the bag in our bathtub initially, and he had me sit on the side of the tub with him and he showed me how to shuck the oysters with a shucking knife, put salt on them, and eat them raw. At the time I remember thinking it was an interesting and different sort of father/daughter thing to do together. I actually learned that way to enjoy them raw (my mother often cooked oysters and we had them a couple of diferent ways cooked), and never in a million years imagined that we could get something fatal from doing that. I would think my father would have known, as he had always been super careful about stuff like that, and would have never let me eat them raw if he thought/knew there could be a problem. Interesting.

threetree, yes, it is a warm water thing. Many years ago I tried them raw, but preferred steamed with toppings.

DH loves raw oysters and still eats them at a local restaurant at home in Louisiana. I like them but stopped eating them out of caution. I have mine chargrilled instead, cooked with butter, garlic and parmesan. On Thursday this restaurant has an oyster special price.
Today is forecast to be sunny with a high in the low 70's. DH is playing golf this morning. I am playing 9 holes at 1 pm with a women's league friend, Linda. This morning I will head to town to do some errands. I'll probably skip the gym since I will get exercise playing golf. We're meeting friends in town for dinner, so I don't want to be too tired.
Yesterday I cleaned the Mr. Clean coffee pot and this morning it didn't respond to the Delay setting. I also cleaned the ceiling fan blades and did some other cleaning. Seems a little silly since we're leaving on Sunday. But with luck and good health, we'll be back next summer.
Happy Wednesday to all.

Carole, it never fails to clean the coffee pot and then something stops working. If I forget to say it later, safe journey for you on Sunday.
Today I had my yearly eye dr check up. I honestly hate getting my eyes dilated because I’m useless for the rest of the day. The good news is my eyes are ok. I received a new contact prescription but won't know until tomorrow when I try them if I like the new script. Fingers crossed.
I had a greeting card stamping class tonight. My eyes were semi ok when we got there, and all good by time we left. These are the cards. The teacher pre cuts everything for the class so we’re not held up all night. A gf and I have been doing it for quite a few years now, we enjoy getting together with the group of ladies.
I was outside tonight futzing with low voltage lights. A new one just doesn’t seem to want to stay on, I have to futz with it and then the next night it might be off again. And now an older spot light stopped too - I’ll check the bulb in it tomorrow in the day light.
Not seeing all that well today, I put the robot vacuum in our bedroom - now that it’s pretty empty awaiting the painter. I closed the door and let it run 3 separate times. The carpet under the bed is “pristine” compared to where we walk. The amount of rug fuzz it picked up, you’d think it was new. Tuesday is paint day. I still need to finish washing walls, but today wasn’t the day for that. We’re watching an awful lot of baseball in the playoffs. I’ll catch my regular shows on DVR. 🤷♀️ And that’s it.

I dusted yesterday and got under and around our modem and cable. Completely lost the internet. Called the company twice for help but nothing worked. Tech is coming today between 5 and 6. Using my personal hot spot for this. That will teach me to clean! 🙄
7 -
carole, were you able to get the Mr. Coffee working again? Happy travels home this weekend.
cindyny, what color are you painting the bedroom? Love the cards you designed. Whomever receives them will be pleased. I also hate having my eyes dilated because I am useless for the rest of the day. Can't see to do much.
petite1, you are right about warm water being the issue with the oysters. Glad you don't eat them raw. Seems the Gulf has been too warm this summer.
little, sorry your dusting knocked out your cable. Hope it was resolved today.
Today was the warmest we have had in several weeks. I decided to do some clean up weeding in the juniper area and did it plus under the Japanese maple. Then decided to weed where I had transplanted pachysandra several years ago. It hasn't filled in yet, so the weeds takeover. I ended up filling 4 large hefty leaf bags and I was out there for 3 hours. I transplanted some pachysandra that was entwined in the large weeds I pulled. DH watered the area and we are expected to get rain again tomorrow.
I brought in my metal butterfly to paint over the winter. It is large and I had started to repaint it several years ago. I never got to finish it. I bought some new paint supplies so it will be a nice indoor project and a chance to correct some of the mistakes I made before.
It was warmer and my shirt and head were drenched by the time I finished.
Dinner was leftovers from the roast beef, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole I made the other day. Tomorrow we will go to Bonefish Grill for an early dinner.
I made Unstuffed Cabbage yesterday and we have enough for another meal.
Our cruise itinerary has already had one destination change. They swapped two ports in French Polynesia so we will be the only ship in port. One of our excursions was moved and we have to check to see if the other was rescheduled as well.
Hope everyone had a great day and waving "hi" to all.

I had another wonky eye day as the new contacts didn’t work for me. I tried wearing them for about 4 hours and then called it. I put my old lenses in. I called to let the dr know, and the receptionist was less than helpful. She ended up putting me to a triage group, who did get my appointment moved up to 10/7 vs 10/12.
We had rain multiple times today when none was predicted. I did get out to change the bulb in one of the low volt spot lights; ran a test and it worked. I was happy to get back inside before more rain came down.
Ran some errands after dinner - post office & dollar store. I grabbed 2 new car sponges to finish up washing the bedroom walls.
Betrayal, I’m keeping the vinyl wallpaper that’s been up for years and still looks fine - ok, it will look brighter after we finish washing it. Haha! (it probably looks fine to me because I only see it 6 months a year)What really needs painting is the ceiling, all the trim - small crown & giant baseboard, plus doors & window frame. It’s a small bedroom in an old house 1920-1930. I’ll be glad when it’s over with.

I had eye doctor appointment today, but it was no one was there. I called and they told me they had tried to notify me. They had the wrong phone number. Anyway, no appointment today. The realtor showed the house this afternoon. After that I just took a nap. It is a lot of work hiding things for a showing.

Hi Everyone,
I had a busier day but not productive. Hubby and I are working on the pavers in the back yard area. Re-grouting and cleaning the recessed lights for
winter. Then he got called in to deliver a load of cabinets and I had promised my father to take his car for inspection. He had to replace a dead battery and that messed up the car's computer. UGH!!! He has to drive at least 150 miles to get the red X's off the computer.
This is a 89 year old man who doesn't drive much and doesn't like highways. I love my dad though, so we have to try again next week sometime. It is just a 4 hr waste of time today for him and me.
Cindyny -I really like the cards that you made! I feel like dickering with landscaping lights are like me trying to figure out how to drop cable and stream on my TV. Technology skills keep evading me.
Has everyone noticed eye issues after having breast cancer/treatments? I have been having really dry eyes and need to use drops several times a day or splash water in my eyes.
Prayers and good thoughts for all to have a fabulous weekend.
