Just checking in, see you all soon.

Hey drinkin' buds! We're home!!! More later but I just wanted to shout out to Cheryl (got your gift yesterday) and anyone else who sent gifts (haven't seen my neighbor yet who collected my mail) and we'll figure out a day/time to open them, hopefully soon! We got in this morning at 1:00-ish and to bed around 3:00-ish and now it's time for laundry and such. Down in Guatemala I used a Snugli-type carrier but today I have her in a sling which allows me to walk around the house and actually type on the computer. These new surroundings have given her a bit of separation anxiety so I'm keeping her close to me as to alleviate her fears.

I did have some wonderful beer in Guatemala - Tecate and Heineken - the higher alcohol formulas, thus better tasting for me, and would have brougt some home had I had the room but hauling around a 14# baby plus luggage was more than enough for this new mommy so no 'good' beer only my wine collection now that I'm back.

Robin, I'm glad things are better for you and I'm sorry to hear about NS's new primary . Healing thoughts being sent out.

    Later Chicas!
    Janis & muy linda Avery

Yep, you've got the Spanish right, but need to work on the English part. LOL!!!

I haven't been baby shopping yet. I've been waiting for my baby girl (22 yrs. old this past Thursday) to come home so we could go baby shopping together. Her friend is having a baby soon so thought it would make a fun shopping day for us.

So happy for the both of you. Are your arms sore from using all of those muscles to hold Avery? I remember that is what significantly hurt for the first few weeks after having my babies. Have fun!! I'll get that gift in the mail this week.

Janis the have Tecate & Heineken in the stores here and where I grew up. Did you like the fact that I used a wine box to send the gift? It's one of the ones we made at work that didn't get out the door.

Glad you got back safely with la nina, Now to get both of you use to being "Home together".

Welcome Home New Mommy and Avery--

Woo Hoo! Janis, I have not sent a gift, but since my 45 yo SIL is a new mom and I am a new Godmother, I know alot about the latest and greatest things out there- I need your address or a po box, whatever?

Also, I just found out I will be in your area over the Cubs/Cards series the weekend of April 21, if you Chi girls can get together then, let me know, I'll extend my trip and maybe even take a train back to St. Louis, since I'll be driving on Friday w/ friends, staying thru Sun and we are going to the game on Sat.

Best wishes to Avery in her new home!

Jan, I'm there. Perhaps you misspelled my name???

So, a little wine tonight to wind down. I was fine (if not just a little tired) yesterday while hanging out at my dad & step-mother's house. My mom was watching my two dogs while I was in Guatemala and since we got home at 2:00 a.m. Saturday she kept them until Sunday. Then last night as she's bringing my dogs to me she somehow loses my cocker who's 14, blind in one eye and mostly deaf so I'm freaking out totally! We spent 3 hours driving (and walking) around her neighborhood before I finally gave up, thinking she was going to freeze to death. Calls to the village and to animal control offered no good news. I was a basket case all day today (and last night, too) before my mother called and said my dog was found - in her car. Seems she was there all along??? Grrrrr. Obviously my mother's car is messy...

So, I've been at the highest of highs and the lowest of lows these past few days and I'm just now trying to get my bearings. My mother and I are not speaking so who knows what will happen next but I'm home, as are all my 'babies', so while it's frickin' winter and we're expecting 6" of snow (I'd prefer something else! ) I'm happy and content. The three other 'girls' are asleep and I suppose I should be, too.

Cheryl, your package is just sitting there begging me to open it. Should I??? Or should I wait???

    Cheers Ladies!

p.s. to Christine, I hope you're happy with your 6" also!

Or maybe I'll wait until I'm around someone who has a camera! I know Avery will love whatever you sent her!!!

If I had the fixin's for a hot toddy I'd make one since it's so blustery out today. Wait - I have Maker's Mark! Or maybe I'll just make some hot chocolate. I hope everyone is staying warm and dry. We're in and not going out today!

On the lemon drop martinis - I just use the mix from Williams Sonoma (I've tried other mixes, but WS is definitely the best) and follow the directions on the bottle.

I also use WS lemon-flavored sugar. (WS makes a flavored sugar to go with each of their martini mixes). I take a chilled martini glass, rub a lemon wedge around the rim, then dip the rim of the glass in the flavored sugar. the sugar containers are perfectly shaped for rimming the glasses.

I use top shelf vodka (usually Grey Goose) and mix per the instructions on the bottle of mix. Shake it up in a stainless steel shaker, strain into my sugar-rimmed glass and YUM! I really like lemon, so I usually squeeze a little extra lemon juice in mine.

    Cheers,

    Donna

    Donna!

I got Avery's gift today! I'm having lunch with Laura(GTO) this Saturday so I'll bring your and Cheryl's gift with and open them with her - okay? Maybe I can get her to take a pic. We won't be drinking that day but I'll for sure have to try your lemon drop martini recipe this summer - yum!

Janis - I got it in the mail. They tell me that it should be there by Friday. I didn't include a pix. I couldn't find anything that I liked. I'll have my dx take one of me and email a copy to you. I've lost about 12 pounds since 1/3 and it really makes a difference when you are only 5'3", although I'll probably have more wrinkles than before. LOL!!

I just love babies. Baby breath is my favorite. You know that first breath when they wake up from a nap and stretch and yawn. It's the best. Give her a great big hug and kiss from me.

    Janis-

Open the gift whenever you want! That's cool that you and Avery are having lunch w/ LauraGTO even if none of you are drinking
Sounds like a great opportunity for her to take pics of you opening gifts!

    I'm so excited for you!!!

And since you're probably freezing your ass off in Chicago, I'm having a Pusser's rum and Coke Zero in your honor.

    Cheers,

Donna, I'm actually toasty warm as I've been indoors all day!!! I'll have to wait until the 'experts' tell me tomorrow how much we got today because we have deep drifts in some spots and very little accumulation in others. Either way it sucks! Bring on Summer and outdoor living/drinking!

    Cheers!

Janis the one thing I know well about being a step partent adn a step child and adopted child is that there will lots that you will get credit for. You would not believe how my kids step dad has become their "Dad", their biological fathers are just thta their fathers. not much more. The girls are so much like my hubby people wouldn't know they are not related. the say a and do things just like him. they even get the same looks in their eyes.
Be carful in the snow. I hoip you have someone with a camera nearby when Avery gets to experiance her first snow! That's alweaays fun!

oops looks like the meds have kicked in and I can't see straght again.

Mena if you'r looking in hewre Happy Burthday girl!
