chelli, I looked up where Lafayette is and it looks like maybe Biloxi might be about the same distance---it is about 8 hrs from me I think. Would be neat to have a get together with others! Well, when you get that RV going up to Pinkstock, I might need you to pick me up on the way! Just kidding...will probably fly there if I get to go.

CristlC....Hope you can still have your wine! Seems like lots of gals are able to tolerate alcohol, but you might need to ask your onco. How are you doing with the expanders? I know you were on another thread I was on, but I forgot how far along you are.

Just had 2 cans of Miller Lite...Happy Hour is now over...but was so nice sitting outside, as it was in the 70's today. I think Tuesdays high here is going to be in the 50's....yikes, not ready for winter to get here! Did lots of trimming of shrubs, yard work, etc. today. Never thought I would be able to do this stuff so soon after all the surgeries, so I am pleased!

    Hi Kathy!

I think we were on the Sep surgery thread together.  I had my BLM on Sept 16th and patholgy came back with a small piece of IDC so now my concentration turned from recovery to chemo.  Not happy but I guess I will survive.   Expanders are ok... going for my first fill this week.  Just taking it slow since I have to get through the chemo before I can think about the exchange.  How are you?????

I am hoping I can tolerate my vino!  Going to have some now!!!

Hi CristlC, So sorry you have to go through chemo....how many treatments will you have? Glad your expanders are going okay. I always took an advil or something before my fills, but mine didn't really bother me much. My PS also had me take an antibiotic 30 min before each fill. When I thought I was too big I had cancelled my last fill, but a month later on a visit, I reconsidered and wanted another fill. Since I had not taken an antibiotic, my PS gave me one of his! I am glad I did that though, as I am happy with the size. I had my implants put in over a month ago, so whenever I decide if I want nipples or 3D tats, then I guess I will be done. Enjoy your wine!!!

Good for you wahine!  I am glad you and almost at the end of this process.  I was so wrapped up in losing my breasts and then the chemo hit and all that goes along with it that now I am not as concerned about my breasts.  Life's crazy turns.....

Ok, NOW I am off for some wine in the backyard with my boyfriend.  I will savor the taste even more tonight knowing it may not taste good in a couple of weeks.  More for me!

    CristlC,

Welcome!  Pull up a bar stool and have a drink!  Good Luck with your tx!!  You are right, I guess it will depend on how you are feeling, but if you are like me, you will be able to indulge in a drink every now and then, while you are having tx.

    Jaybird,

I am not collecting unemployment...  My dh is retired, U.S. Navy, and he's working at a little hot sauce store in Myrtle Beach, SC so we are ok for money.  I just don't like having to ask my DH for money, if I want to buy something.

I moved from Maryland to NC two years ago, and then, in Feb. 2007, I felt a lump...  that was the beginning of this crazy bc ride I've been on.  So I haven't been working.  This summer, I worked at this expensive dress shop near my home, but the manager kept scheduling me to work on days that I needed to be off.  It was only supposed to be a p/t job, and it became more of an annoyance than anything, so I quit.

I haven't been on the boards too much lately, I guess I've been trying to find a little p/t job.  I have applied at a few places, but there just doesn't seem to be many opportunities.  I think maybe I will have a chance to work at some store as Christmas help.  I have always done clerical work, and I don't really like retail, but at least it will be something.

I have been away too long!  I have to catch up on my drinking!  Last night, my dh opened a bottle of wine and we had it with dinner.  It was pretty good.

It's 5 o'clock and dh just got home from work - it's 75 degrees outside so think it's time to head to the deck for a cool one.  I love this time of year.  Hope everyone has a happy halloween!!  I go to the ps tomorrow for the unveiling of my new nip - I am so ready for this journey to be over.  If I would have been in my right mind 2.5 years ago I would have had it all done then.  Hindsight is 20/20 - right??

Junie - I think you and Brenda should plan a road trip this way - doesn't she need to go see her children that live my way??

Hi Sheila! Well, its a little after 5 here, so I will join you in Happy Hour! I think it is in the 60's right now, so cooler than where you are today, but still nice enough to be with the dogs on the deck! YAY!!!! I hope you love your new nip--and how wonderful that your journey is almost over! I am having some laser hair removal...ended up with some hairs following the incision lines on my new boobs...started treatments today, and found out it will take about a YEAR till the laser treatments are done. So, I will have to wait for nips or tats for at least another year!!! But I am happy with my new nippleless foobs for now, so that is ok. Bottoms Up, Pau Hana, Cheers, etc..... Let's get this party rolling!

Maybe you ladies can help me with this.  Does drinking (moderately) affect tumor markers? I finished chemo at the end of July and went for onc appt yesterday and learned I have one elevated tumor marker. I have felt great and returned to work and now this to worry about. Any input from anyone would be helpful. I am not even sure what ? to ask onc on next visit Nov 10. I will have another test for tumor markers Monday Nov 3.

    The name says it all,

I like your name! I wish I knew about your question though. I have no idea, but hopefully one of our bar buddies here will be able to advise. Just wanted to tell you I am sorry to hear about the elevated tumor marker, and maybe it would be good to stop drinking till you can see the onc? OR maybe just call his office and ask that? Cause I know you will need a beer before then! I hope you can reach them today! I will hoist a drink to you tonight, in case you can't imbide. It is almost 5 pm....Happy Hour coming up! Got to get into the "spirits" before the litttle spirits come to the door....ugh...that was bad....I feel like a cold coming on, and looks like it has affected my humor too! Best of luck "youlooklikeyouneedabeergirl"!

Thanks for answering so quickly Wahine! My oncs leave the office early...so no one to ask now. I'll just grind my teeth and wait til after my tumor marker test on Monday. The onc I saw yesterday was not my regular onc but I will see her on nov 10 and she will have the results of the Nov 3 test. She gives me more info than the onc I saw yesterday.

Huggss, Beergirl--I did drink during my chemo and rads, not a lot but a couple beers each night and an occasional glass of wine.   No one ever mentioned to me if drinking would affect my tumor markers.   It was one of the first questions I asked my onc before starting chemo--could I drink?  He said, in moderation, just don't overdo it.   I was very fortunate that I did not have the miserable nausea with my chemo.   Best of luck to you!   Let us know what you find out!

Junie, I drank the same as you during chemo - did not need rads. But I never drank more than 3 beers in a day...most of the time not that much. My onc never discussed it that I remember, but I do remember answering questions about alcohol use before chemo started. I did give honest answers...was too frightened not to.  I did have nausea with first chemo, but onc increased nausea meds and it never happened again. I also got pain from the injection after chemo...forgot the name of it...only once and I think that was from being out in the sun all day playing with my grandson and visiting with a friend. I forgot to drink enough water and got dehydrated.

Beergirl--I applaud your honesty in telling doctors true answers to your drinking.  My anwer to that question recently has been--"I'm a social drinker"   (meaning I don't grab a drink the minute I roll out of bed...)  But, I follow up with, "and, I'm a very social person!"

...bottoms up to all our drinking buds...hugggsssssss to all!

Ha- I love this thread and all of my ol' (not old) friends here. I guess stopping by once a month doesn't make me a "regular" but that is about how often I frequent my "neighborhood bar" so I guess it is all relative. I am  not opposed to drinking a great glass or bottle of wine while I am at home cooking dinner, alone... that is the weird part, Oh well! HI GIRLS!

First I will welcome some new girls to the bar:

Chelli - welcome. What is your real name? I have a gorgeous 2yr old niece, her name is Marcella and we call her "Celli" I was raised in the restaurant/bar biz and am still there. I know what a fun life it is, but could be hard on our livers, not complaining though.

Sarmcl- your tx is done this week- right on for you. Enjoy the rest of the week, relax and though the days will seem shorter after the time change- you may feel like you have more time to enjoy everyday!

sam91- you do not look 50! I haven't seen you for awhile so unless there has been some dramatic change you look too young for your age, better have some some drinks to fix that...lol

Jaybird- France, Spain??? I had no idea. Sounds like you are doing great. How's lil Avery? More beautiful than ever I am sure, let's see some photos.

CristiC - welcome here. You have found what we call the "funnest thread" on this board.

Harley-  good to see you again. It is nice to come home, Isn;t it?  I used to live on Hilton Head and my ex  lives close to Kiawah- I know how great the Carolinas can be

Junie- you know, I work and live less than 5 mins from the Hill, call and we'll meet at our restaurant.

Donna- just sending some hugs your way, if you catch them. Had a great time when you came to visit.

    Let's all go to Tunica!!!!

    youlooklikeyouneedabeergirl,

Good luck with your tumor marker test tomorrow!  I'll be thinking about you, and I'll have a drink for you tonight!  My onc won't do tumor marker tests...  I guess he doesn't believe in them, don't know why.   During my chemo, I was told that having a drink or two a day was ok.  I didn't drink every day, even though I was lucky and didn't have too many se's from the tx.

Oh, I almost forgot... my sil tells me (and I know this is a different test) that she went to a football game, and she had MANY MANY BEERS!  The next day, she had bloodwork, and her liver enzymes (I think) were elevated.  So, the dr. told her to just wait two weeks, and go back for another test...  she did, and was just fine.

Let us know how your test goes!!

    Sam--

    Love those Margaritas!!

    Christine,

I love living near the beach!!  It always feels like I'm on vacation!!

    Happy Sunday!!

    Cheers!

Tonight I'm celebrating our new President even though I didn't vote for him. (I chose to vote 'other')

I'm in England where the sentiment is (as well as in other European countires and in other parts of the world, too) that his win is a good thing.

I was thinking about detoxing my body/liver, but why??? So I'm having a French Bordeaux. Not my fave winery but any red wine in a storm, eh?

As for a pic of Avery, as soon as I get one on photobuck I'll post it here. Sometimes I wish I weren't such a techno-tard! Tongue out

    Cheers!

    Hi drinkin' buds~

Haven't stopped by in a while.  I think I popped in right before the San Diego trip.  It went surprisingly well.  I think the cats and bird held up better than Vickie and I did LOL!  It was a lot of road to cover in 2 1/2 days, but all things considered, it went well.  Not that I want to do it again any time soon!

Hello to all the newcomers!  Belly up to the bar Cool

Junie - the Eureka trip was NOT a good one....honestly couldn't wait to get back home.  NOTHING went as planned....it's a long story....

J - how exciting that you are traveling all over the damn world!  Sounds slightly more exciting than sitting in front of a PC all day LOL!  So glad you are having fun.  Give Avery a hug for me!

Christine - Caught the hugs, thanks!  Tunica, huh?  Maybe I'll win the lottery....if so I'm definitely IN!!

beergirl - I have never heard of a relationship  between drinking and tumor markers, but that doesn't mean anything.  Keep us posted.

I'm doing pretty good on weight watchers, even though sometimes it really sucks!  I'm down 12.5 - halfway to my goal of 25, but not sure if my post-menopausal body will allow that or not!  Probably not if I continue to drink Wink, but I have cut back considerably.  Did go to the liquor store at lunch today and bought a few bottles of wine.....they probably missed me there - it's been a while since I'd been in.

I'm totally digging our fall weather!  I could live in this all year long!

    And on that note~

    Cheers!

    Donna

I had 2 scans yesterday that showed improvement!!  I just spoke to the nurse, she said the cancerous activity is still there, and it is still stage IV, however it is getting better.  The scan in June showed 3 definite lesions on my liver, but they can see only 1 spot now... I was hoping for none, but hey... 1 is better than 3.  The breast and lymph areas are still active too, but we knew already that they had shrinkage.  The scan also showed some bone activity (which I did not have before) but they do not think it is cancerous.  So they are not going to do a bone scan, she said it's just not necessary, they know what it is...Neulasta.  I was concerned about bone pain, but she said that too is the Neulasta, so I'm not going to worry about the bone issue.  I had the results sent to my specialist in BR also, and will be speaking to him within the next few days, hopefully he feels the same.  I have treatment 5 next week, I'm past my halfway point!!  I believe I will be sending DH to the store for a bottle of wine, I believe I deserve a glass or two!  Prayers & Cheers to all!!!Laughing

    Chelli,

YAY!  Glad your tests all came out good!!

About the Neulasta shot and the bone pain...  I don't know if I mentioned this to you before, but I will now:

The day you get the Neulasta shot and for 3 days afterward, take one Claritin per day.  REGULAR Claritin, not Claritin D.  I am not lying, it really helps with the bone pain from Neulasta.  After the nurse told me, I took Claritin when I got my Neulasta shots and for 3 days, and I didn't have any bone pain at all.  However, my very first tx, they gave me Neupogen shots for 4 days, and they didn't tell me about the Claritin... BOY, HOWDY!  Did I ever have alot of bone pain, and especially lower back pain!!  OUCH!!

    Cheers!

Chelli--good news on your scans!  Sam--just about too much of anything makes me that way!!!  Christine--may be in StL around Christmas, will let you know.   Donna, sent you a PM--sorry your ES trip was sour grapes!  Jaybird, enjoy hearing about the lovely wines you're tasting during your working travels--I jot names down, but have yet to find any in our little rural, podunk spirit shop!

Major holidays coming up--dreading all the fuss and being split so many different ways with all the kids/grandkids--but, this, too shall pass!   So... (not that I need an excuse...) I declare it Open Season for Imbibing!!!!       C H E E R S !!!!!

Just dropping by to say hi. I am in Tulsa OK, nearing the end of my treatment. Had the pleasure of meeting CasinoGirl as she lives here. Let me tell you....what a cute, sweet, bubbly, fun person. I am so glad we met, but sorry we couldn't have met when I first got here Oct 1st. Anyways, we shared stories, had a few beers and lunch the next day.

Anyways, hoping to keep up with things here and make new friends. My son was here visiting me and while he was here, got a tattoo on the left side of his chest, over his heart, of a cross with a pink ribbon around the cross and "mom" written in the ribbon. I am so proud!

Not sure which link to use to post pic. Photo doesn't show in preview. Will just do them all!

Nice that you got to meet up with CasinoGirl, and have a few beers, etc. Wish we all could get together! Hope your treatments are going really well. Too early for me to drink today, but we put down quite a few the past few days in Tunica at all hours of the day and night...Miller Lites, Mich Ultras, Jack & Diets....even had a pina coloda...yummy. Now that we're back home, when 5 o'clock rolls around......

Great tattoo, Lori! What a wonderful son you have! I'll drink to that! Tongue out

I've been on this Bordeaux kick lately. I just brought two more bottles back from Germany. I can buy wine in Europe cheaper than I can get here in the U.S. but if I really like what I got I can't just drive to the store and pick up more! Bummer! My back-up is still the La Linda Malbec from Argentina which is less than $10. (the Bordeaux I get for about $5-6!)

And for a celebratory/holiday drink I highly recommend Vanille Royale which is kind of like Bailey's but much better!

    Cheers!

Jaybird, I don't know much about wine, but like to drink it on occasion! I love Bailey's, so that Vanille Royale sounds wonderful. Yes thank you, I'll try a glass.

quick question for my drinking buds--especially, the winos!!!   Thanksgiving coming up--turkey dinner, and all the usual dishes..........Red wine   or   White??????   I say, it is totally a matter of preference as to which wine a person likes best, but the body bringing the wine for the dinner wants to be absolutely, totally socially correct--so, I told him I'd ask the experts!!!   Any advice????

    Hi junie!

I think it would be white wine, but lets hope our wine expert Jaybird, chimes in on this! Personally I prefer a white grenache or white zinfandel, cause I like the "rose" type wines best, and  I can drink them with any type of meat or seafood. You can see I am not a qualifed "wino"! I bet Jaybird can come up with some real good wines though!

    Cheers,

    Kathy
