Sweet dreams Stormy. Do Parrot Head dreams have anything to do with being in Key West, toes in the sand and cocktail in hand? or does it have something to do with chemo brain, which I believe doesn't ever really fade away?

Yo! Thanks for the reality shot. They've got me captured in the hospital right now so I shall be glad to get out and acquire some Christmas cheer. Do you have any special plans in the next couple of weeks? No one could ever see you as a hairless, eyebrowless thing, you've way too much personality for that.

Maryland is milder so we're stuck dealing with the mud  until it freezes up again. We have a farm and sometimes I feel that I need mudrooms on both ends of my house,

I hope that you are pain free and happy in your skin tonight. Have a glass of the grape for me.

I'm back! I'm back! Party down. Is eggnog better as the jug you buy in the grocery store and add Kahlua to or should it be that bottle of premixed stuff from the liquor store?

Kahlua and eggnog??? Huh. I'll definitely have to try that!!! Tongue out

Snow is SUCH a buzz kill!!! We got 5" here and I was wanting to just chill out with some wine tonight but, no, I had to shovel 5" of snow! UGH! And now, because of the ow. I have to leave extra early for the airport tomorrow.....  (guess I'll just have to drink extra when I get to England!)

So I've been on a scotch kick lately. Was off it for a while but after traveling to Scotland many times this month and getting some fairly decent prices at the airport duty free I splurged and bought one bottle for me and one for my aunt's husb who helps me with my sump pump when it acts up. A fair trade I'd say. I bought him a limited edition bottle a few weeks ago and went back for a bottle for me but they were out! So I bought two more bottles, both different, and will save one for me and then give him another bottle for x-mas.

I'm still trying to stay with the cheaper reds, due to budget constraints, but haven't found anything special. I have one bottle of bordeaux left from France and will have to sacrafice it very soon.

And I'm recommending Vanille Royale for all holiday gatherings. I bought some chocolate cups and will try the Vanille Royale in them. They're made for cordials - how yummy!

Cheers to all - especially Christine! Where the heck have you been???   I promise to post a pic of Avery here soon. I just got her x-mas pics taken on Monday!!!

Hi everyone! Good to have you back, Jaybird, although you will be gone again tomorrow....be safe driving to the airport in the snow! Hope the weather will be nice in England for you. Ok....I haven't heard of Vanilla Royale---is it a vanilla liqueur? Sounds yummy in chocolate cups....heck anything would be yummy in chocolate cups! Anxious to see the pic of your daughter--bet its adorable. I took my DH and 92 yo father to a very nice adult store to have their pic taken with a "sexy santa"--actually a young woman in a VERY skimpy "santa" outfit--it was a riot though, and my dad really got a big kick out of it. When the "santa" saw the pics, she commented on showing too much of her booty, then blamed it on the cameraperson...LOL.  Of course the next day DH went to the hospital in an ambulance after passing out twice with seizures....think I could blame it on the "sexy santa"? He seems ok now, but it was a horrible scare, out of the blue.

Stormy, I have never heard of kahlua and eggnog either. Always good with rum though! I think the "fresh" cartons at the grocery store are better than the premixed stuff, but that is just my opinion. Glad you're home from the hospital...party hearty!

    Wishing the best to everyone,

    Kathy

    Hi All-

J-bird thanks for the welcome back, all I've been doing is working and in my off time - cooking dinners with iTunes playing and a glass of wine, I guess I hibernated all summer and fall. Just missing everyone here.

I hope all are doing well, I am so glad to be back in touch. Sorta like a reunion, you catch up and pick up where you left off (I remember from years ago, soap operas were the same, weren't they?)

I love Egg Nog, wishing for a Low-Fat, Sugar Free recipe, a girl can dream can't she?

Hi all, hope everyone is drinking up.  I have taken it easy for the past few days, as I've been in hosp since Sunday with laryngitis, the nurses won't let me have even a sip of wine.  I coulda kicked dh, he brought a few beers for himself last night!  How bout that??!!  He says he's just trying to catch up with me. Ok, I'll buy that.  Anyway, been a rough few weeks, the scans got re-evaluated and the liver spots are still there, but 1 gone, 1 reduced by 50%, 1 by 75%, so I'm ok.  I had absolutely NO side effects last tx (I really wish everyone had it that good).  But I needed the days off from SE's.  On Saturday, Dec 6 I had to go to a memorial service for my uncle (dx w/pancreatic cancer in October), and later that day one of my Bayoudemon sisters was killed in an accident.  It was one of the ladies that I had been friends with long before the motorcycle group came together.  It was a devastating loss to all of us and of course to her children and husband.  We were not able to bury her until last Friday and by then I was just so worn out I wanted to sleep for days.  I decided to rest, did not go with the rest of the group to visit our other member who was driving the bike and is still in the hospital (the accident wasn't his fault, they were actually run over by a truck).  I knew I was sick saturday but thought it would get better with rest, Sunday I had no voice and the coughing was painful, shortness of breath sent me scurrying to the ER.  Have been pumped full of antibiotics, breathing tx, etc.  But they tell me i can go home tomorrow.  But I'm gonna rest till Saturday cause our group has our Toys for Tots drive on Saturday and I gotta go help cook gumbo!!

If I don't get a chance to belly up before Christmas... Merry & Blessed One to All!!  Cheers!!!

My prayers are with you chelli. Congratulations for the disapearance of your liver spots. I'm sorry to hear of your losses. Gentle hugs. Rum would make your throat feel better while you're resting.

A very Merry Christmas to you also.

Has anyone out there ever heard of hunting port? Is it easier to find at a wine type store or a general package store?

    Chelli-

So sorry to hear about your loss. I have a friend who was in a terrible wreck on his bike and still hospitalized after 2 mos.  Glad to hear your getting some good results from tx, keep it up with few if any SEs.

Stormy- I know a ton about wines and liquor, being in the restaurant business, but I have never heard of "hunting" port?

Hi chelli, OH, you have had a terrible few days. I am so sorry for the loss of your uncle, due to cancer...that was so quick...devastating. And then to lose your dear friend in a horrible accident. My heart really goes out to you. I am glad your liver spots are diminishing, and hope soon the treatments will make them go away for good! And I am glad you will get to leave the hospital tomorrow....you sure have been mighty sick. Now,I know how important it is for you to cook the gumbo for the toy drive, BUT....I hope you won't be overdoing it. You really need your rest, so you won't get a recurrence. Please, be sure to take it easy, okay? My DH saw his dr today, and it turns out all he probably had was a "stomach virus or stomach flu"....but since he didn't slow down, it caused other problems, and went to his brain. That is apparently why he had seizures and passed out. His dr said he has seen other patients recently that have passed out from it too. So, please take it slow....there are a lot of bad "bugs" going around. That said, I do hope your group has a good toy drive...I keep taking more toys to our toys4tots,as their donations are down by 75% this year...and their last day is tomorrow. Take care, chelli, and get well!

Stormy, I had to google "hunting port" as I've never heard of it either! Someone said it is a full-bodied ruby red wine, and that one of the makers was Harvey's of Bristol (wasn't sure if they still made it, or who else might make it). Good luck finding it...BTW why are you wanting to find it? Did someone recommend it? Let us know if you find it, and if its really good!

    Happy Holiday Drinking everyone,

    Kathy

    Maverick is so handsome.

I was looking for Hunting Port as a hostess gift for a party we are going to tomorrow night at the home of a couple whose annual liquor consumption makes us all appear as collective amateurs. It seemed to be an appropriate gift for horsy people. Then again maybe I'll go lazy and take them a pint of homemade maple syrup.

I finally made it back to this thread.  Have to get ready for some drinking tonight.  We have 4 Christmas parties to go to tonight - might make it to 2 of them.  One is for the management team where my dh works, at one of their homes.  They are having a whole big spread of Mexican food.  I told my dh I thought it was appropriate to take something, like a bottle of wine.  I think we will stop by the "candy" store on the way and pick up something.  I have no clue about wines as I don't drink it, so hopefully someone there can point out a good one or I may have to go back and take notes from Jaybirds post - I think she is the resident expert.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.  Cheers to all of us

Junie- I stopped by just for you and Chritine it is great to see you again!!!

Thanks to all of you!  It was so great to be able to "vent" here!  They cut me loose on Friday, kept me an extra day for good measure.  I was SO happy when they removed the IV from my port, having it accessed for 4 days sucked!  I had tx #7 today, only one more to go, again no SE's, I even had a few glasses of wine this evening with no problem.  Hope everyone is having a good holiday season!

wahine - Saturday went great, this is why the onco kept me an extra day, I was honest that I would be trying to get out and about on Saturday.  Mom called me at 7am and told me to wait cause it was misty and just plain yuck out, so I waited till about 10 to get out there.  I didn't have to cook the gumbo, and it was great, the guys took care of all the cooking!  The toy drive and the food drive both went very well, lots of toys, food, toiletries, etc.  We had a good time and enjoyed a few beer n shot rounds to relax afterward.  Thanks for the heads up about all the "bugs", I ended up with staph on my list after checking into er, but they got that under control too.

    Hi drinkin' buds, remember me?

Junie - I'll take that "oldbies" as a compliment!  Sounds like the kids and grandkids are still keeping you running.

Chelli - so sorry to hear about your uncle and your friend  ((HUGS)) to you.

Jay - sounds like you're still having fun drinking your way around the world. LOL I'm jealous!  Have you tried any of the Japanese scotches?  BF Mark bought one the other day (I'm not much of a scotch drinker, but it was good I must say)  I can't wait to see a new pic of Avery...she's probably growing like a weed.

Sam, Walhine, Hunky, Stormy (and anyone else I have missed)  - hope all is well.  I have SO missed this board, and MUST make a point to check in more often.  Afterall, it is the funnestest thread! Smile

Christine - we have to have a chat soon, girl I miss you!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

    CHEERS,

    Donna

Anyone have a World Market near them? I don't so can't get in on this, but just got an email from them, and their "Electric Reindeer" (how's that for a timely name...LOL) wine is just $2.49-$2.99 for 2 days. It's just half off, so might be rot-gut wine, but if its like "Two Buck Chuck" from Trader Joe's, it might be alright. The bottles look so festive, I would buy it just for that! Anyway, cheers everyone! Good to hear from you again, Donna....we missed you!

Happy Holiday's to all!!! (especially Christine - thinking of you, too, just too busy for cards!)

This month has been a challenge as far as work goes. I have to work x-mas eve/x-mas day. Haven't been home since Sunday.  :(  The bottle of wine I had last night only helped a bit.

I'm off to Manchester today and will have x-mas dinner at the hotel. It's a nice hotel with big, warm rooms so I suppose it could be worse.

I hope everyone has safe travels this week and happy memories are made!

    Cheers!

And I would love to see her pic whenever you get home for awhile and have some free (?) time. Enjoy your wines and that nice dinner at your hotel....and have a safe trip home after all your work is done.

    Take care everyone!

YEA! I figured out how to post a pic! (had problems doing it from my laptop, had to use my desktop) Also, wasn't sure how to make them larger since I copied them directly from the photographer web site to photobucket to here.

I won't have these up for long since there are many trolls/freaks that come here so enjoy while you can!

    Cheers!

Oh, my pleasure!!! She is the light of my life and my raison d'etre. Who would have thunk that my getting BC would have gotten me my precious baby girl! I still remember how wonderful all of you were when she was on her way to me. Other than the clothes she's outgrown I still have all the gifts I received for her! The blanket she got from Cheryl is on her bed. Cheryl put a Whinnie The Pooh border on the blanket and Whinnie The Pooh is Avery's favorite!

Cheers and Happy New year!!! Smile
