Hello Ladies, I 've been reading your posts and let me tell you...I feel much better about having drinks on occasions. Being diagnosed with mets in October I thought I better start living healthier if I want to be around longer. After the first month being devastated about my diagnosis I came to realize that nobody is promised a tomorrow and if I want a drink, or 2, or 3, than so be it. I sure sleep better and worry less!  The only habit I have such a hard time letting go ..is smoking. I used to smoke about 5 cigs a day...after diagnosis I quit cold turkey...but I notice I have been terrible cravings, especially when I have some drinks! I have been drags here and there..but it's so hard!

    Thanks for listening....hugs Steff

Hi everyone! Still drinking....just soooooo busy....where does the time go??? Stefanie, congrats on quitting smoking!!! It is normal to have cravings, but you just keep it up, one day at a time, and you will do it. Give yourself a pat on the back....it is hard to quit, esp with dealing with cancer. When I quit many, many years ago (the most I ever smoked was a pk a day), I had to not be around cigs at all. Finally when I was pretty much over it, I would just buy a pack once a year when my Green Beret DH went to summer camp...that was my "indulgence"! LOL. After a few yrs, I didn't even do that anymore....and now I would not want a cigarette if it was handed to me. It was easier for me, since I did not smoke too much, but it still was hard...and I think it is great that you are giving it up! When the cravings hit you, just come on the boards and let out your frustration....you will have a lot of support. Glad you still enjoy your drink(s)....what would we do without our alcohol?

Hope the New Year is going well for all...I still have not started a diet or exercize...running out of excuses not to. Drink up!

    Cheers,

    Kathy

    Hi Girlfriends-

Just stopping by to say Happy 2009.  I am glad we all made it thru another crazy holiday season- not even considering health issues. Just the time of year. Especially for me and others in the hospitality (food and beverage) biz.

I got the saddest note from Donnakf (casino girl) today. She had to let go of her sick cat, Holly. I am feline momma and am so distraught for her. She had Holly for over 12 yrs. I told her that to us "single feline moms" these animals are not "like" family they "are" our family. Send her a pm or mesage with your sympathies, I am sure she would appreicate every kind word.

Here is our motto for the New Year Year--- Feeling Fine in '09.

    Love to all.

Hi junie! Can I join you at the bar? I just sent you an email. Nice to hear that your vacation is all-inclusive...I think they will lose money on your bar tab...LOL...j/k! I think I would OD on the booze, since it is included....as well as the food. Sounds great!!!

CasinoGirl, I am so sorry about your loss also. I know Holly must have meant so much to you, and that you gave her a wonderful life. Still thinking of you, and hope you are doing okay.

Anyone else bellying up to the bar? Drinks are on me tonight....but just for a few more minutes..j/k. Hope everyone is doing well, and not getting flooded, or snowed in..weather has been terrible all over it seems. Stay safe!

    Cheers,

    Kathy

    Hi Ladies!

I'm on the wagon (again?) but wanted to mention that I found a nice bordeaux at Trader Joe's for $9. Not too bad price wise and certainly not swill. I really need to stay under $10/bottle since I'm such a wino! Tongue out

I've also finished the first bottle of scotch I brought back from Scotland and have started in on the second one. So far the second one is better but the first one kind of grew on me after a while (scotch will do that to you!).

    Well, here's to more snow!

    Cheers!

Hi all!  I had my last tx yesterday!  YAY!!!  I had something to celebrate last night and today!  I think that I find any and everything to celebrate!  Football playoffs tomorrow, friends visiting next weekend, Super Bowl the next, and of course, our Mardi Gras season is right there too.  Whew!  Anyway... hope everyone had a good holiday season and is having a good start to 2009.

Jaybird, I was thinking of you in the grocery store a few days ago!  I went for my wine and they were OUT!!  I love Gallo, Cafe Zin.  Do you know of anything remotely like it other than a regular white zin?  I also like muscato, but prefer the dark zin.  Any suggestions?

    Cheers!!!

    Congrats Chelli!!!

I'm not familiar with gallo cafe zin so I can't many any recommendations. Perhaps you can call the larger liquor stores and inquire there? They may have a suggestion. Happy drinking!

    Cheers!

    Hey Buds~

Chelli - Congrats on finishing treatment!

Jay - Avery is just precious!  (I knew she would be, but loved seing the pics to "prove" it LOL)

Thanks to all for your kind words about my fur baby Holly.  I had her cremated....have never had a pet cremated and at first thought "what the hell am I doing....I acted on emotions" but now I am very glad I did.  She's in a very nice pretty wood box with a gold plate on the front that says "Holly Jolly Girl left this life on 1/7/09 after 12 years of purring & snuggling.  Sweet Dreams."

I'm not on the boards much anymore as you may have noticed!  But I'm still drinking!

Cheers to a GREAT 2009 everyone!

Welcome  newbies ~ belly up to the bar!  And HEY THERE to all the "oldbies"....you know who you are LOL.

I am drinking a not-so-small glass of Leese-Fitch Cab. (California).  For $12 it's a good bottle of wine!  Being a wino can get expensive as all my wino friends on here can attest to.

    Hope everyone is staying warm!

    Cheer,

    Donna/CasinoGirl:

I just saw the message about your fur baby, Holly!  I am SO sorry!

I am the mamma of two furry cats, but I lost ONE furbaby 6 years ago, and it hurt SO BAD!
I can't have children, and I feel the same way, that these feline babies were given to me to care for, and they are my babies!!  They ARE family!!

Hugggssss to all from an OLDBIE!!!!!   Hey, Donna--are you iced in?   We surely are--have lost power once today for a bit; elec back on but lights keep flickering.   At least my ML will keep nice and chilled in the garage!    But, hopefully, 2 weeks from today we will be in warm, sunny Jamaica soaking up rum and rays!!!  We've not been to Jamaica, so am really excited.   Better go fix dinner while we still have power--we have the fireplace ready to go if worst case scenario--this is when I don't like having an all electric home!    Praying for some warmer temps and some sunshine!!!!

Junie - yes I am iced in and NOT happy about it!  I am praying I don't lose power....still have nightmares from the ice storm last year when I was without power/heat for 5 nights. And it's still coming down  Frown  Thank God I have a well-stocked licka cabinet LOL

Where are you going in Jamaica?  My sisters and I went to Montego Bay 2 yrs ago in Dec and it was awesome!  Do you need me to come along and chaperone?   Cause you know me, being the team player that I am, I would do that for you Cool

I am still shocked about the loss of our sister AlaskaDeb.  It was with Deb at a casino in NY that I got my CasinoGirl name...

I will open a bottle of wine in a bit and toast to Deb.  She was an inspiration and a hoot!

    Cheers,

    Hi gals,

I just heard about Deb, and what a great loss that is. I had not chatted with her, but loved to read her upbeat, inspiring posts, and had been following the thread that her husband started when things turned the wrong way. Boy will she be missed, and my heart goes out not only to those here that knew her, but to her loving family. I will have a toast to her tonight; as it is now just 4:30 am, and we just returned home late last night, from the island of Madeira, Portugal.

Jaybird, not only is Madeira fabulous, but they have great table wines soooooo cheap! They don't export those, but we enjoyed them tremendously, as well as the CORAL beer that is made on the island. Also had their espada (local fish) cooked with bananas, every day for a week...really! The weather was so nice and warm (except when we flew back to rainy, cold Lisbon for a couple of days!), and we spent every day walking all over town, with the neat mosaic cobblestone walkways, and sidewalks.

Missed all the posts, and its been nice reading them this morning. Chelli, so glad you finished treatments....YAY!!! And junie, I hope you have your power back, and are not iced in...your Jamaica trip won't get here soon enough,as I know you'll love those warm, sunny days! Casinogirl, I hope your weather is improving too...looks like quite a mess going across the country. Ours might get bad tonight, but I don't think we'll get that ice.

Nice to be back at the bar! Best wishes everyone, Kathy

Donna, you guys got an ice storm? Well, you need to get rid of it before I arrive! Don't want to have any issues with flying or landing!

I am going to call the center and have them make my flight arrangements today for my trip out there. Looking forward to hanging out. I am assuming from my previous flights, I will get there on Monday, the 16th, around 5pm or so.

Junie, Jamaica sounds wonderful. I have never been anywhere! Was suppose to go to Hawaii this past Oct to get married, but this damned cancer kind of got in the way. Anyways, hoping to do it this fall. So looking forward to that!

Next round is on me......drink up!

Thank gawd we only got 2" of light snow last night. It's so cold here that the snow is like powder.

Tonight at dinner I opened a bottle of wine (the so-so $9 Bordeaux from Trader Joe's I mentioned before) and Avery said, "Mommy's juice!" HA, HA! Tongue out (her juice is sometimes red...)

Cheers again to Alakka Deb! It's just so sad.....
