Good morning ladies- got things going on first thing this morning but wanted to wish you a good day. Not sure Teka has been here for a bit (but I know she is out there) and had to share this for you and especially for her!
Talk to you more tomorrow!

Cami, jelly? You never had peanut butter and jelly? Ha ha, I think you might refer to being jelly (jealous) of someone or something? Which is not a word I made up. I think you are the one that makes up words. I have NEVER heard anyone, ever, say recockulous! Still praying and thinking of Leslie, and Joey too. But of course, the whole family. Glad you are keeping us updated.
Sandy, agreed on the differant rules for different states. And you are right about not being able to use a credit card and all of the dispensaries I've been in have ATM machines! Now your back? Good grief woman! You need to be bubble wrapped!
Cute catnip pic Jazzy.
Doing some last minute cleaning and packing to leave for camping Tuesday morning.

Goldie, I hope you will sit down and rest on your camping trip. You've been wrangling the veggies for a long time, plus the everyday stuff!
Cami, hoping Leslie is improving each day and the antibiotics are getting rid of all infection.
Sandy, oh no. Never a good time to have a back problem but certainly not with ceiling work, tree work, pump and electrical work, and a hand that's not quite back to full strength yet. Hope you can find time for a heating pad.
Jazzy, I **wish** I could be as relaxed as that cat. Cute photo.
I'm a tennis fan and have enjoyed the U.S. Open until the last few stages. I sports-hate the finals matchup for both men and women. I may not even watch, which is a shocking development! I miss Rafa, Sloane, and Madison 😭 Oh well, there's always next year whether I'm here to watch or not.

Mornin' Ladies
Jeez I started here again a few times .
Sandy not that u need it mentally, but I think u should stay in a padded room for a while and get urself healed, Have food and wine brought in on all cushiony plates and plastic forks. U have had so much happening all at once. U must be exhausted from all of it.
Jazzy I luv that pic. Altho I am basically a cat person, so maybe that's why.
Lori are u done.....now ur going camping, jeez can u ever stop and smell the maters---Oh see there's a word we all use now that we didn't use before. And many yrs ago I looked up where my last name came from and it did come from someone who took care of chickens and roosters hence "cock" and that's probably why I'm drawn to that word LOL.
Picnic today hope it doesn't rain, oh they're roasting a pig---OMG never did that kind before So we just made due with freezer tings that I never ate. hahaha. Oh and Jodie is in FL this week coming home tomorrow, of all times for her to go on vacay but she needed it too She's been working lots right now and coming here on Sat. to help me with a shower and my groceries. Leslie is supposed to come home today sometime, so she's ready mostly but shakey I know she's been getting morphine but I hope they send her home with something decent. It's funny yrs. ago when in her manic state she was addicted to drugs <another whole yr. story that was horrendous> but when she's not manic she can take and not have any addiction to it. Blows my mind.

Cami, it was explained to me by my physical therapist in the couple of weeks after my second knee replacement that if one is taking an opioid for serious acute pain, they can't become addicted to it because the brain's "reward centers" (a type of endorphin receptor) don't get involved. It's when the pain lessens and one notices a euphoric effect (a high or buzz) that the potential for addiction begins. But I won't take any opioids for my back pain: I learned after the first root canal last month that 1000mg. acetaminophen and 600-800 ibuprofen (3 or 4 pills--and ibuprofen, not naproxen) is more effective against pain than is codeine, hydrocodone or even hydromorphone. So what I'm doing for my backache is the Tylenol-Advil protocol q. 6 hrs., plus Baclofen and 1/2 dropper twice a day of high-potency (Receptra "Plus" 1500 mg./oz, or 44 mg/dropper) CBD oil (my usual dose is 1/2 dropper of Receptra "Prime" 750 mg./oz. or 22 mg./dropper at bedtime). Also 3x/day CBD balm, Bio-Freeze, and a heating pad--1/2 hr. High, 1/2 hr. off, 1/2 hr. Low. Hoping to be able to get to temple tomorrow night for Rosh Hashonah Eve services (no parking at the temple lot itself unless elderly and/or officially handicapped--in which case you need to request a permit weeks in advance, and I can't handle the stairs of the school buses they use for shuttles from the church parking lots). Monday morning I can't go to the main service: have to be at hand therapy (housekeeper will deal with the plumber) and at the family shrink with Gordy in the afternoon. Irony is that both my hand therapist & shrink are also Jewish.
I've been to only two pig roasts in my life: one hosted by our late alderwoman and her husband in their backyard; and another at a MI winery celebrating the harvest & crush after we'd picked riesling & gewurztraminer all day. (The winery, alas, failed after a phylloxera infestation and two winter deep freezes in a row; it's been replaced by townhomes & McMansions). But I attended a few Christmas banquets hosted by Filipino doctors--and the main course was always a pig ("lechon") pre-roasted in the hotel dining room kitchen.
Last night, with leftovers, an Aperol spritz; tonight with ordered-in NY pizza and Greek salad, Blue Bird Monterey Pinot Noir.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! I can't believe I missed posting yesterday. My morning routine got messed up a bit when a friend called and needed to talk, so we did, for 2 hours. Then I realized I was feeling totally lazy, so I didn't even go to the ben suppah. Stayed home and vegged with Sadie. Didn't even do any laundry! So I've got some ketchuping to do around here today!
Goldie--that is a lot of work! It's hard to picture how much work canning is until you see it listed out from start to finish like that!
Cammy--Well, I wasn't sent home (no big surprise to me) did hear one comment from Clinical Manager #4 about not knowing what to do with me (Clinical Manager #1 had two plans in mind, depending on if the very pregnant nurse was working or in labor). So I won a bet with myself that I would hear either an "I don't know what to do with you" whine or a snarky "now that you are management" comment from a particular nurse and got to order take out dinner from Olive Garden. If I heard both I would have gotten dessert, too. So glad Leslie has had the surgery and now has a pristine foob. I expect the ongoing antibiotics are to clean up any rogue bacteria that are lurking around. I think it's good that Joey sees her for a little bit, his imagination was probably making up way worse pictures in his mind about what was going on.
Chi--My goodness, you just cannot catch a break, can you? At least you know what to do to take care of things when they come up and have everything you need at hand.
Jazzy--LOL!!
Goldie--Where are you going camping this trip?
Muddling--Here's to better match ups next year!
Cammy--Hooray for Leslie coming home! And a pig roast, oh my! That sounds very yummy!
Chi--I've heard that the Tylenol/Advil combo was more potent than codeine for pain, but hadn't run into anyone who has used it. Does it work well for you? It would be a great thing for people to know about, especially with both being available over the counter. Too bad about the winery not making it. Sounds like it was fun.

Cami yes, I do believe I am done....finally! I can clean up all my canning supplies and put them away until next year. Hoping I can pass up tomato canning next year, due to all that I have this year! I figure I probably did about 1000 tomatoes! Glad that Leslie is coming home, make sure she doesn't over do it and if she does, get in her chit mom. Love a pig roast, and I see Joey got to go to drive in movie. Not too many of those left, which is a shame.Did you get to the picnic?
For Sandy...
Muddling, I love to go camping. I guess it's more of "glamping", however we do not do camp grounds. We do what's called "dry camping", no water or electric, but we do have those in our toy hauler. Water, we just have to rationalize, we can carry 100 gallons of water, and have a generator and solar panel. We go riding our quad every day and bring movies to watch. We don't like having other people on top of us, which is why I guess we live where we live.
NM, nothing wrong with veggie out for a day. RE the canning, it IS a lot of work, and people don't realize how much actually goes in to it, hence my "description". Now I suppose one can buy all the veggies and can, but I prefer to grow my own. So you DID get your Olive Garden dinner, but no dessert?
We will be heading to Moab UT Tuesday morning. Hoping to leave the toy hauler there, to go back when my daughter gets here. can't wait for that. It's just sooooo pretty there. And if it's too hot, we can head up into the La Sal mountains.

this is one of the spots we camped at a few years ago in Moab. We have a new truck now, shown below this one. It's red.
We call her "the red rocket". You floor this baby, and OMG it GOES! The other camper you see is a friends.
A vies of the La Sal mountains from Arches National Park. I did not take this picture, it's just to give you an idea of where we will be.

Back in our 20s, when we could both easily get up after sleeping on the ground, we went tent camping quite often--from Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands north of Puget Sound between Seattle & the Canadian border, all the way down the coast as far as Big Sur. We had two "cocoon" (aka "mummy") shaped down sleeping bags, foam pads, pillows and a 9' x 9' "umbrella" tent from REI. We had a little single-burner butane-cartridge backpacking stove, which we used not just to boil water for coffee & oatmeal but make reconstituted instant meals (we especially liked Lipton's Chicken Supreme & Beef Stroganoff). It was loads of fun, cheaper than even the crummiest motels, and enabled us to see places like the Napa Valley, the San Juans (and whale watching), the Monterey Peninsula, Oregon coast, Bay Area (pre-Silicon Valley) and Big Sur. All in our little 2-door 1972 Datsun 1200, with no options save an automatic transmission.
But our initial camping experience was inauspicious. We'd been married & living in Seattle for only six weeks, when one of the post-docs in Bob's Genetics lab said "let's go to the Satsop River Fair and Tin Cup Races." It was held in Grays Harbor County, WA on the Olympic Peninsula the same weekend as Seafair, which hosted the Gold Cup hydroplane races in Seattle; and was a rock festival billed as the "Woodstock of the Northwest." Turned out to be more like the "Altamont of the Northwest," but I digress. Being NYC kids who'd only gone to day-camp (as for me, think Dr. Joel Fleischman at the beginning of Northern Exposure) we had no idea what we'd gotten ourselves into. Six of us crammed into a VW Beetle, sleeping in a canvas Army-surplus center-pole tent.
Besides all the inconveniences of being on Weight Watchers at an outdoor hippie rock festival (naked people bathing in the river, offering psilocybin in exchange for soap; swarms of yellow jackets; hour-long lines for the concessions--especially the salmon-roasts; shortages of drinking water--though there was plenty of Boone's Farm & Annie Green Springs; porta-potties, aka "Sani-Kans;" bands that had canceled because they couldn't get through the traffic; insufficient parking shuttles, etc.), sleeping in that tent was truly challenging. The second night, I dreamed I was being repeatedly tortured by having my feet submerged in a bucket of ice water while water was being dripped on my head. I awoke to find it pouring outside, with my feet in a puddle and rain leaking in through a hole in the roof where it was suspended on the wooden tent pole. I was shivering & sniffling, but terrified to say anything lest I be branded a spoiled Jewish Princess city-kid wuss. Just then, Chuck--the leader of our group and a veteran backpacker--said "this sucks--let's get back to civilization." Unhappy camper instantly became happy ex-camper....until we had to drag our gear for a mile to the parking lot in the rain because the parking shuttle had overtuned in a ditch and the Medevac helicopter sent for the injured passengers itself could not land because of the wind & rain.
Some day I will drag out and digitize the amazing photos (taken with my Brownie Starflash & Instamatic) and slides (taken with my first 35mm) of the scenery from our trips and try to post them.
Tonight is Rosh Hashonah. But due to my back strain, I'm not going to temple, nor am I cooking. (Might watch an online service by Nashuva in Brentwood, CA). Bob just went out to Milos' Pita down the street for chicken shwarma and falafel. We have lots of salad (and tomatoes). Forgot to ask him to go to Whole Foods and get a round challah, honey cake and a couple of apples--so we could have the traditional apples, challah & honey for dessert. Maybe Monday's leftover raisin-walnut soda bread can fill in. Will drink leftover bubbly--maybe with a splash of grenadine (pomegranates are traditional for Rosh Hashonah).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday! Sounds like we're going to get some real rain tomorrow as the remnants of some storm or other works through. Talking about 1-2 inches. Should be lots of fun.
Goldie--Yes, I got my Olive Garden dinner, but not dessert. The take out dinner fed me for 2 days! I did get breadsticks and alfredo dipping sauce to go with. I'm thinking it's time for the same bet today, since I'm going into the main office again today. Both should be there this ayem, so I should get a good chance at getting dessert, too! WOW, what a beautiful camping site! The red rocket is pretty, too!
Chi--oh my goodness what a first camping trip story! What a collection of horrors! Happy Rosh Hashonah!

Sandy, love the camping story. DH has never been camping, prior to a few years ago. This before we got the toy hauler. He went over board in the camping gear and even 2 tents. It was a windy night, so the tent flapped all night, and he could hear people out side. Thinking all the time, they are going to break into his truck. So, needless to say, that was the end of camping and we got the toy hauler.
NM, anxiously awaiting what happens at office one today! But it might have to wait until we get home. Don't know yet if we will have a signal, where ever we decide to camp.
Taking food and last minute stuff out to the toy hauler today.

Have fun, goldie!
NM I hope the rain won't cause you any trouble. We are in line to get 17 inches of rain, yes seventeen, if the weekly rainfall forecast including Florence comes true. It's still a few days out so I really hope.it turns to stay at sea. We're in storm prep this week and we are kind of used to it due to numerous ice storms and tropical storms over the decades. We can be prepared for up to a week of power outage but it's not fun since we have no water if the electricity is out. I am daunted by thinking of seventeen inches of rain though. I don't remember that much before. Every tree in sight could fall from that combined with winds and of course flooding. So, if you don't hear from me for a while that's probably why. No electricity=no modem=no tablet communication. We have no cell service here at the best of times. Maybe they are over-hyping this to get people to pay attention but it's good to be prepared regardless.

Mornin' Ladies,
Wow Sandy ur experience with camping would turn me off forever. I certainly like and learned ur explanation of drugs. I hope u didnt think I was questioning anything about what u take, cuz I didnt mean it like that, I just mean take whatever u can to help pain. But I found it interesting what u take. I'm always in fear that they will stop my drugs, I really dont think I'm addicted but when I'm late taking my morphine pain starts bad and I think I can't go back to what it was like. To me it was unbearable, so much so that I totally blocked out the first 2 weeks of therapy, I don't remember it and they weren't giving me things to sleep or anything and they said I was awake screaming all that time. Before that I hardly ever took drugs for any pain, nothing was bad enough for me. My Drs. would tease me I had no pain receptors and they used to laugh about what else my brain didn't have, oh they found out. I'm not saying I'm a brave person, no not at all, just normally don't need things for it. Chit I'm not saying anything right here, but some of u understand what I mean. LOL <maybe>hahaha. But back to the original I like the idea of taking Tylenol and advil, sounds good to me to replace codeine.
Lori that scenery is beautiful, but not good enough for me to want to be there. I watch to many scary movies to think about being alone. LOL But I can picture it for you, cuz u are an outdoor person and love and respect nature and all that comes with it. And I think the calmness of all that mixed together is wonderful for u and ur DH. And when is ur DD coming out, oh I couldn't wait either, this is exciting news for me, I hope it's soon.
Kim ask for desert first, then put it on the side and eat it when u want. Cuz u will be going to a place that treats u like family. So family it up and enjoy.
Well I did go to the picnic and it was actually cold out. Jeez didn't expect that, But I saw the pig and of course couldn't eat it, I wanted to cry. All the kids enjoyed the bouncy that Dan rented, good idea actually. And he found out he was having another boy <thatll be 3> Oh his wife Kat had a look on her face I can't describe. But I did get to meet a few men I never met so that was good and before I met anyone Dan sat by me holding my hand and I just thought that was so sweet, u know how I feel about him....and this knocked me out til the next day. Then I had to email Dan that I broke another phone and ear piece. OMG this can't keep on happening, Joey has never broken a phone and now I'm up to 3 and 2 earpieces. This is so wrong on my part..
Leslie is doing OK, still hurting but not pain. But she's glad she's home and everyone understands that.

Oh Oh Joey just fixed my phone, just something stupid that I didn't know.
And Sandy u might have said already but could u repeat how u take the Tylonol and Advil, in what order and do u take it all together. Thanks.
And Mornin' to everyone else, it's been quiet in here.

Kim I just saw it advertised at Olive Garden u buy 1 and get the 2nd one for take home...what a deal...limited time offer. Do they have that in ME too.

Cami, I take 2-3 generic Advil (Costco 200mg. ibuprofen, the orange coated caplets) and 2 generic rapid-release Tylenol Extra Strength (Costco 500mg. acetaminophen--the red & blue capsules) simultaneously, every 6-8 hrs. (4-6 hrs. to start, first dose 4 Advil, as a "loading dose" or "bolus" to get sufficient blood levels). I first learned about the combo when recovering from my first knee replacement surgery, after being released to home from in-patient rehab. I used to hang out on a site called Bonesmart.org (founded by a British orthopedic surgical RN). She dubbed it the "Bonesmart Cocktail," and it was what helped me wean off Norco after both surgeries. The key--whatever painkiller you have to take--is to stay ahead of the pain--it's easier to keep it a steady "3" or "4" (or take it down from a "6") than it is to get it down from an "8" or "9." It's especially important if you are doing physical therapy--pretty hard to do stuff that hurts like hell if you are already in agony before you even start.
Tonight, with a combo of last night's leftovers and tonight's ready-to-eat Whole Foods run, I'm drinking a Pigmentum rosé (Malbec) from SW France.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Waking up to steady rain this ayem. It's the remnents of one of the hurricanes/tropical storms from recently, don't remember which one. It's got that nice, steady, gentle rain that is so relaxing to listen to. Poor Sadie had to get her paws wet when she went out to piddle, she was not impressed. This from a dog that loves swimming! Silly girl.
Goldie--not too exciting at the office this ayem. Then nurse pretty much ignored me, the Clinical Manager muttered something I didn't catch, but she was kind of on the hot seat due to there being a mandatory education session that very few people knew about and the educator was not impressed and not shy about saying this had happened in that office before and there is no excuse. I just did my thing and chuckled to myself.
Goldie--have a great trip!
Muddling--the rain as it is right now will be no problem, but I understand it will get heavier as the day goes by. Some talk about flooding, but that isn't anything I need to worry about personally, living on top of a hill as I do. Power outages are not fun after the first 20 minutes or so. I'm lucky in that my phone gives me some connectivity when the power is out, but it's hard to keep it charged up. BUT, it is time to start thinking about and getting ready for winter storms. Hope you keep your power and don't have any big problems.
Cammy--Feeling pain when the morphine dose is late is NOT addiction, it's a normal thing to have happen. Helps remind you not to forget/be late taking your pain meds! People's ability to tolerate pain changes over time. Having chronic pain actually physically changes the nervous system and brain. It's a physical thing. I'm glad you got to the picnic, even if you couldn't eat the pig. And to find out about another baby boy coming, what fun! I hope Dan gets the insurance on the phones and ear pieces you use! I do believe they have the buy one get a 2nd to take home.Going to have to check on that. I LOVE Olive Garden food!
Chi--good info about pain management. The research actually shows that people who take pain medication at the first sign of pain end up taking less pain medication overall and for ashorter time than people who wait. That Rose sounds yummy!

NM, we often go to Olive Garden after my oncologist visits. Last month I was excited to see buy one-take one until the waitress explained that the take away is only the smaller size entree but no salad or bread. The salad and breadsticks are just as important to me, LOL. So I got the usual full size meal and boxed up half and we got to take the salad in the bowl and breadsticks. I guess I was hoping for a new, untouched meal -silly me. Last time, before we even got home, DH had some digestive trouble from his meal there so we won't be going back. He never has food trouble but that's what it was because he was fine later. We had different things and I was fine but it still made me angry 😠.

Morin Ladies,
Thanks Sandy for the help and explanation now I really have to write it down or it will fly right thru me.
Kim ur having all the rain now we're getting some too I think, I don't hear it like I would like but it's almost always deep clouds. And my favorite is the salad and breadsticks at Olive Garden, for some reason their salad is so yummy. And I agree I think pain over time changes what we can take anymore, all I know is I freak out when certain pain starts and I've dreamt about one nite of screaming and thinking I had died and gone to hell and this is what I was going to feel for eternity, cuz it was like a dream to me and every so often that dream comes to me in my sleep, wakes me up and I''m in a sweat, it's silly I know but that doesn't leave me.
Well Lori is probably gone by now. I suppose her camping can be more often where she lives than it would be around here, for sure.
I had to stop for a good 20 mins. Now I'm confused. I cut my nails down a lot so I could type more accurately, well it didn't work---my typing is still atrocious---after all the years of typing u'd think I'd have an edge up, yea right the only edge I know is what I'm clinging to.
Jazzy must really be throwing herself into this new project, we're all so used to her jumping in at any time, now I have to miss her.
Muddling how are u doing ??? Jenky havent heard much from you and Illi not enough fun to report??? Come on ur always up.
Oops left again. GRRRR

Cami, nope, not much fun to report right now. It’s been raining for over a week, so I’m kind of housebound, except for PT appointments for a knee injury. Next month I hope to get in a mini vacation to a beach or river, then I have this year’s dia de los muertos 5k the last week of October.
I’m finding retirement pretty boring so far 😒

Quick hi, the new work is great but so much to do. They needed me awhile ago. Everyone is still great. I am finishing the contract, onboarding and doing billable work all at the same time. Not my normal mo but doing okay. Some of the set up things will be done shortly. I work in a large conference room with a door, a phone, a big monitor to plug in to work on things and show people and a big white board all my own. I like it here!
Went to the gyn today and all is well there except that their scales confirmed what mine did, up 8 lbs in two months. Ugh, a couple pounds may be from the vacation a couple weeks ago (lot of good food and drink), but I also went off the Trulicity shots and upped my metformin meds. That is the likely culprit as my eating and exercise remain the same outside of vacation time. So I am going to talk to my PCP next week who now manages my blood sugar stuff to see if I can go back to the old plan. I was hoping coming off the AIs in Feb that some weight would come off but alas, now I have other problems from other med changes. She also heard some wheezing which comes with fall allergies and hitting the inhaler today. The joy of having an old bod......
Hope your day is good ladies. Will poop in this weekend....

Cami, I'm all right, just trying to get ready for this hurricane. Of course we have to drive 70 miles to my regular oncologist appointment Thursday, but with the latest forecast we should be able to make it there and back home before the storm's effects get here. My first visit to him was in a snowstorm so just getting there is sometimes an adventure. I hope you're okay and that your daughter is feeling better each day. She's had quite an ordeal!

Hi from Farmer Dank, in sunny & mild Chicago. No rain for the foreseeable future, so we're watering daily again. The cherry tomato plants have pretty much stopped fruiting--and a couple of others are flowering but not fruiting, so instead of depending on bees I'm gonna have to get out there with a Q-tip. We do have three more regular size tomatoes ripening, so will rescue them before the squirrels catch on.
Cami, seeing a whole baby animal roasting on a spit is a bit of an appetite suppressant (it's the face that does it, though fish faces don't bother me at all). I liked the Filipino dinners because the pigs would be carved in the kitchen before the platters were brought out.
Not a big fan of Olive Garden, as we have so many great Italian places around here (including, if we want to drive out to Elmwood Park, ol'--fashioned inexpensive red-sauce joints). The Darden Group (to which it, Red Lobster and Capital Grille belong) is notorious for underpaying and maltreating its workers. (Read "Behind the Kitchen Door" and "Forked," by Saru Jarumayan. They're eye-openers--especially the latter, which rates chains on how they treat their staff).
Kinda noisy around here today--neighbors are finishing their basement and getting water pressure improved...which takes a lot of jackhammering. Meanwhile, our ceiling crew is noisily vaccuuming out debris and power-nailing-and-sanding the new drywall board; they'll be back to paint it tomorrow.
Was up very late last night practicing guitar--I do it till my fingertips begin to start feeling numb, which means the calluses are building up (as they should). Had to cut my L hand nails to the quick, so my nail tech will go ballistic tomorrow at my biweekly mani. Tough--I'm paying her, not vice versa.
Thurs. night Mas Alla del Sol is hosting a Mexican winemaker dinner--yup, they make wine in Mexico. Should be interesting,

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! Had a bit of a long day at work yesterday. I was spending a lot of time with one family who was sitting vigil, looked like it was going to be a real race to see if the patient died or the daughter flying in from the west coast would arrive first. Fortunately, the daughter arrived in time to spend a couple of hours with the patient. Meeting up with the Women, Wednesday and Wine group afterwork today, so that will be a nice change of pace. Sadie was miffed with me coming home late, though. It took her almost 5 minutes to acknowledge that I was home and come get her ear scratches and belly rubs. And then she needed extra belly rubs at bedtime! Good thing she is so easy to make up to!
Muddling--I wondered how the Olive Garden buy one-take one worked. When I ordered on line last week the bread and salad were separate order items. OK with me, I don't like the dressing on their salad, but bummed about the bread sticks and dipping sauce. So sorry your DH had digestive issues, that really puts a damper on the fun!
Illi-- another Hashy!Yeah!
Cammy--the dream that keeps coming back and waking you up in a sweat is a sign of PTSD. Serious, uncontrolled pain can trigger PTSD. I'd be afraid of pain like that, too! If I can Olive Garden salad before the dressing is put on it's great, but I really do not care for the dressing for some reason.
Illi--I'm sorry retirement is boring so far. I hope it gets better as your knee heals up!
Jazzy--I'm jealous, you've got a big room with a white board and phone and big monitor! All I'll be getting is a desk, phone and double monitor computer when I move up.Actually, that's all I need, so it's good, but to have a room of my own would be nice, too!
Muddling--stay safe during the travels and the storm!
Chi--sorry for all the noise you are stuck in! Mexican wine sounds interesting, can't wait to hear your report.

BMornin Ladies,
Illi my mom used to say and now I do, "Boring is good" of course the wisdom I had didn't agree back then, but actually I rarely ever felt bored, I dont know if that had anything to do with the saying or I was just lucky.
Muddling 70 miles, ur like Lori, jeez I have to go less than 2 miles and sometimes I think Oh the inconvenience. LOL BTW when I used to live in another town my work was across the street from where I lived. So I got so spoiled about travelling. And I worked for the State of ILL. which was a job that didn't take the brightest bulb to use. And a hurricane to worry about that's awful.
Kim I was the one who talked about the olive Garden and their 2 for 1 price. but I don't know how it works. I basically don't care for the food there but the salad kind of reminds me how we used to make it. Just oil and vinager never measured and salt pepper, etc. No flavored dressings. So maybe that's why I like it so well and the breadsticks. OMG what a horrible evening u had, I know u cant ever get used to that, but at least the DD got there in time. And of course Sadie would be upset, but she cracks me up.
Jazzy I'm glad all is well with ur new job. Sounds very busy tho...but u like that.
Sandy u have some projects going on in ur neighborhood and just a couple of new maters and it's done. But u have a lot to work on for ur body. Wow u must have practiced for awhile, that must be pretty good PT tho, <well IDK really>---Oh u have lots of restaurants around u for sure, all kinds too. But we do too actually and a lot of Italian ones and some are so so good and of course that's who we'd go back to. And like I've said my one GF owns one in Addison and her sister in Elmhurst <Sandy knows> and they are really good. They've owned them for over 40 yrs. Jeez they are old. LOL
LUBS U ALL

Cami, it's inconvenient to have to go 70 miles, one way, to the oncologist. Our county doesn't even have a hospital, not even an urgent care. Oh well, at least I usually only have to go once a month now. The forecast today seems to be better for us so I should be able to get there just fine and my Ibrance should arrive Friday. We will still have bad weather, hopefully not catastrophic. That's as of now but we are still preparing since the track can change again. I'm sorry for those in the worst part.

Cami, I miss Al Gelato in Elmwood Park (or was it Melrose Park--anyway, it was on North Ave. way west of Thatcher Woods). It was founded and run by a non-Italian who lived in Italy for several years and apprenticed at a gelateria. It made the first gelato available to the general public in Chicagoland, with flavors like Tartufo (the deep dark chocolate of which the dessert of the same name is made), Zabaglione (all the flavor, but no standing over a double boiler whisking egg yolks, sugar & marsala), Creme Brulee, real (not dyed green) pistachio, Stracciatella (finely chopped chocolate chips), etc. Instead of sundaes, they offered three size dishes: Coppa Bambino (small), Mamma (medium) and Papa (large)--all topped with whipped cream and a triangular wafer. They also made their own "Spaghetti & Meatball:" the "spagnetti" was Zabaglione flavor extruded through pasta dies; the "tomato sauce" was strawberry coulis; the "parmesan" was flaked coconut; and the "meatball" was chocolate flavor. I think that they still supply some Italian restaurants (and maybe even sell pints at Convito Italiano in Wilmette); but there are gelateria all over the place now--my fave is Black Dog in Lakeview and the Chicago Indoor French Market inside Ogilvie Station. The gelato bar at Eataly (Ohio at State) is great too. And there's an Argentinian gelateria (yeah, it's a "thing") up in Evanston that's pretty good. Of course, Mariano's and Whole Foods also have gelato bars, but they're hit or miss. (And IMHO nothing beats Gracchi or Fior di Luna in Rome).
Back when there were few espresso options besides Starbucks, I liked to go into the little bakeries & cafes on Harlem Ave. in Elmwood Park. I was usually the only non-Italian (though my married surname sounds Italian) in the place, and the espresso was terrific. Lord help anyone who ordered a "latte," specified the temperature or kind of milk, or heaven forbid asked for any flavored syrups (except of course the anisette they kept under the counter for their regulars--usually elderly men). And of course, the cannolli & other pastries were terrific. We used to go to Ferrara bakery west of the Taylor St. "little Italy" neighborhood when Bob was a resident at the U of I (wonder if it's any relation to the legendary NYC Ferrara)?

NM- I am totally NOT used to having such a good space to work! I am not sure it will last but think the area I am in is not as heavily used for meetings, but heard the corporate types are moving in to this building from their location down the road next year, so if I am still working there when that happens, I will likely be stuck in a cube somewhere (or working from home other times). Did you start your new work yet?
Did someone say meatball gelato?
Thinking of Goldie out camping in Moab which is one of the most beautiful places in the country if you have not been. I am overdue for a trip back to that part of the country. When my nephew comes to visit, we may do a bit of balloon stuff here next year but may see if he wants to spend the rest of the visit up in that area. ROAD TRIP.
Okay, who do we have here in the mid-Atlantic area? That storm is moving in fast. I hope you have been able to evacuate to higher ground.

My friend Jackie, who moved to Charleston back in June (her DH is staying here in the N. suburbs till he can retire from his on-air job at WBBM Newsradio), is safe inland in Spartanburg with her sister (plus the "blended household" of three dogs & two cats). My sis is in Arlington/McLean, VA--she lives in a "hollow" (if you can call it that in an upscale suburb) and is girding for 2-4" of rain. I also have a friend in Virginia Beach--she's on tour now. (Probably second-guessing her decision to leave Madison, WI several years ago).
My housekeeper's DH got sprung from post-op rehab at the V.A. today, so she didn't come in. (He's doing a bit better). But the drywall guy called this morning to apologize for leaving the ceiling open to the rafters yesterday--it took all aft. to clean up & haul away the debris, including the blown-in cellulose & rockwool insulation. His truck broke down, so he'll be in tomorrow early--and finish the whole job, including insulation & painting. Gordy has agreed to hold down the fort if they're not done by the time Bob & I have to leave for the Mexican wine dinner at Mas Alla Del Sol.
My 'maters are winding down--the blossoms dried up. Have about a dozen or fewer cherry tomatoes still green & on the vine. Harvested the huge beefsteak one, and have three more mid-size ones in various stages of near-ripening. There are three small ones that are still green, so I netted them to hide them from the squirrels.
