Cami, a "slipper" lobster tail is a size designation--it's a small tail, usually 4 oz. or less, as opposed to the big ones you see as main courses in restaurants.

The brand of Kosher frozen soups is Tabatchnik, and yes, they're delicious. (Their best are split pea & mushroom barley). The "crackers" are called matzo. A guilty pleasure for me is melting thin-sliced provolone or Swiss on one in the microwave. You can make a kind of French toast with them, called "matzo brei:" soften them by running them under or soaking briefly in hot water; dip in whatever batter you use for French toast; and griddle them with butter or oil. Serve with either maple syrup or sprinkle sugar on top (cinnamon optional).

Good Morning, Loungettes. Just a quick poop in this ayem, need to get an extra early start today. Class is in a different room today, had to take down everything yesterday, need to set up again this ayem. Alsoneed to re-order the PowerPoint slides to match what the group wants to do with the information today. Sadie and I had a lovely evening watching the thunder and lightning storm that came through last night. Nothing big, just enough to be fun to watch. Nothing like watching lightning with a lap full of Sadie!

Goldie--thanks for the link! The date line is from the One Note page title that I use when I am writing my posts. That's the date and time I opened this page originally. When I highlighted to copy the post I highlighted up to far!

Cammy--Sadie does indeed have human tendencies. That's part of her charm. The flat tire was not fun, but not a super crisis, either. And I did find out that I should be able to get another summer out of them. It's almost time to put on the studded tires!

Chi--never hear lobster tail sizes referred to that way. Interesting, wonder where it comes from.

How to make The Early Start Cocktail

Muddle the French sorrel leaf in a mixing tin.

Add the rest of the ingredients, dry-shake, then shake with ice.

    Fine-strain into a coupe.

"Kiddush" wine after the end of Yom Kippur service was La Vielle Ferme red. Beats the usual sweet Concord grape stuff. With dinner (that little lobster tail and Bob's leftover frites from his moules frites dinner at Hopleaf), Pigmentum Malbec rosé.

There she goes with that recockulous, I need to look that up in the Urban Dictionary. Is Joey feeling better? How about Leslie? Hopefully no one else got sick.

Sandy, I also did not know what a "slipper" lobstah was.

NM, I too like to watch lightning. How did class go? I sort of figured that old date was just something you were typing in. Studded tires....that means the "W" word!

Got a small batch of beans from the garden yesterday, enough to do some more canning! Yippee! Too many too eat, hoping to get about 6 pints, The beans are called Turkey Craws, or Shelley Beans. Came from the south, said to have been found in the craw of a turkey. They produce a brown bean inside, which you can also just process the bean to eat, similar to like what you would do with any bean, pinto, navy, etc.

Not my picture, but you can see how they differ from a "regular" bean.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thursday!Boy did yesterday turn into quite the day! Left hope a bit extra early, was going to stop and get my lunch and find a special munchy treat for the last day of class, spend a little time setting up the computer room for class as best I could. Got within 10 miles of the site, and the same tire that went flat Monday went flat again. On the interstate. At 70 MPH. So, call to AAA, get help coming to put on the spare.Call the site to let them know I may be late (it was an hour till class time, the AAA estimate was 45 minutes). Call my class coordinator and let her know what's up.Sit in the car with all that morning commute traffic whizzing by at 70+ MPH.Thinking of the time I wanted to be spending on the computer reording the powerpoint slides to make the day go smoother for the students.Trying not to stress out.The guy comes along, sooner than estimated! Looks things over, says he'll change the tire right there (I was told he may tow the car off the interstate for safety). Does the fastest tire change I have ever seen. Gets me back on the road in record time.I arrive at the class site 5 minutes before class time! Only one other student there before me! A couple students come in right behind me, and then one gets a message from a couple other students that they are stuck in traffic behind an accident and are going to be a bit late. A student who has arrived discovers she forgot her lunch AND her wallet. A couple more are coming down with a cold and don't feel so hot. Not feeling really badly, just not so hot. The "late" students get in about 5-10 minutes after start time. One of the students brought a box of donuts from a very well loved local bakery. We all get coffee and decided "today is going to be one of those days" and we're going to make the best of it. They voted to take a shorter lunch (1/2 hour instead of an hour) so we can get out early.Up and running by 9:20.(Class start time is 9:00).Then it was like magic happened! Things just clicked in everyone's mind, we started running through the review questions at lightning speed andsuper accurately. One student who always goes out and buys her lunch bought a second one for the student who forget hers. Without saying she was going to, she just did it. During one break the student with a 3 week old baby got some pics from her mom who was getting some quality Grandmother time with baby that we got to ooh and aah over. A technical problem that was holding up the student's vouchers needed to register for the licensing exam got fixed and they got the vouchers hand delivered after lunch. And we still got done an hour early with EVERY student doing really well! It's not often a day starts out so chaotically and ends up so nicely! I managed to get the blown tire replaced, order takeout dinner from my favorite restaurant AND be home in time to watch the evening news! I feel really good about yesterday. Really tired, but really good. Sadie and I slept until 8 ayem! That's how tired I was. And it was fall cool last night so Sadie spent the night cuddled under the covers with me. Ahhhhhhhhhh!

Goldie--Wow, them is some big beans! How do those beans taste?Do they make good baked beans?Yup, studded tires means the "s" word. Hopefully not for a while, but it is coming and I need to prepare.

    Morning, Chi!

For the newbies--Here is a pic of the swimming pool with the big screen TV.We can float in floaties, watch whatever we want, and the Tattie Tenders will send us our drink by remote control.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! I got a disappointing e-mail yesterday. Since the patient census at the new office isn't as high as the corporate office would like, and the patient census is so high at the original office and the number of open positions is so high (3 full time positions open) my transfer to the new office and new position "cannot be accommodated at this time."I am trying very, very hard to see this as just a delay, and to not give a lot of energy to being angry or hurt or upset. I'm trying very hard to figure out how to best behave so that I come across as a real class act and a professional above and beyond some of the people I work under. I've got to come up with some good answers for the inevitable questions "When does the new job start?" "How long do you think it will be before you can transfer?" "Does it bother you that the transfer is being delayed?" I could use some input, here, Loungettes!Sadie has been very comforting, but she hasn't come up with any good answers other than to remember that she loves me no matter what. And I know Clinical Manager #4 and her sidekick nurse will be just gloating over the situation and will try to push my buttons. I keep reminding myself that God has a reason for this, and I keep trying to be patient and trusting, but dang, this is not what I have been looking forward to.

I can 't believe no one else has been in the Lounge in the last 24 hours!Where is everyone? Not that I mind having all 3 Tenders to myself!

    Ingredients

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a highball glass. Dust with nutmeg, and serve.

NM- here is my two sense worth as someone who works in the healthcare industry, but in a different way. Work is very unstable in this industry and over the past couple years, I have been asked to do things to assist clients, work in collaboration with others on project pitches, etc. for things that were supposed to be a sure thing and never happened; collaboration firms that never could secure opportunities, clients who asked me to come in to work for them, started contracts that cost me good money with my atty and never got finalized (nor did I even called to tell me it was not going to happen). It's been a pretty rude time in the industry these past few years, and a symptom of a lot of instability and poorly managed change.

It's okay to not discuss anything today, let yourself feel disappointed and there is no need to talk to the people at the job site about it. If they ask, I would just say you have been notified of the change and just move away from the conversation however you need to (I have a call I need to get to, etc.) None of their business anyways. Don't engage in their gossip or drama sister.

If the decision makers want to talk to about it, hear them out and take in whatever info they share. But do not respond with any questions until you have all the information from them that they are willing to share today. If they ask if you have questions, just say not at the moment but you will review everything and be back in touch next week. I would take the weekend to step back and think about this so you can determine if this something that can be revisited in the next few months, next year, etc.

My advice to you is don't allow them to string you along because my experience the past few years is, they will and without a thought to your needs. You may opt to look for something else that can meet your needs this fall. It sounds like they just don't have the census right now to accommodate the cost for this role, but as you know, that may change into the next few months. The decision is not "we found someone who is a better fit" but rather "we cannot afford it right now." Keep your options open for other work and if something comes along before this can possibly happen, all the better.

And speaking of this same thing NM, there has been some instability at my new work site this week. I heard yesterday one of the projects they brought me in for and was supposed to start up soon got cancelled. I have plenty to do on the other two right now, and they did ask me if I would go help the other side of the house so I will be talking to the tech leadership this morning about a few things and will see where we go. Not even two weeks into this gig and changes happening for me too. I am taking my own advice to take the higher road, and going to see what ideas they have today to replace my work on the cancelled project with some other things. Like I said, totally unstable right now.....

Good morning NM and Jazzy! I have not posted in a bit, hardly keeping up actually, lots going on.

NM -I agree with Jazzy, if people (especially the 'gloatees') inquire, just reply that you received the notice thank you - end of conversation. Think about what the managers go over with you (if they do) and reply to them next week. I am glad Sadie is so supportive, as are we - cheers!

Good news on my project, sounds like it may only be delayed until early next year vs. cancelled all together. I talked to the head tech dude today and he is working on a revised plan with them. We had a really great meeting this morning and all is well on my end.

NM- I will be interested to hear how things go for you on the next steps. I just have a feeling like my situation that it is not now, but may be soon. But take care of yourself friend. You deserve the best!

Wow, it's quiet in up in here! We are in Phoenix, I had forgotten that we were going. I did my canning Thursday evening. Had endless shrimp at Red Lobster yesterday. I got 11 pints of beans and 4 more pints of tomatoes. I was affraid I wasn't going to get any beans at all.

    Hi friends,

yes it's me....boobless and in pain, also hubs n I are down with cold or flu. UGH

Wanted to let ya all know, surgery went well, the docs tested what they took off my chest, no sign of any new bad cells. Will still continue chemo every 3 wks for awhile. But am thrilled about the good reports. Hate this constricting bra and cover I have to wear, the velcro really irritates my skin. Go back in on 10-3, hopefully remaining drains will come out then. And can get a fill on by foobs. that was another good thing, that they were able to save enuf skin to put the expanders in. woohoo. Trying to stay clear of da wabbit hole, but rest is jes what I have to do for awhile.

I appreciate all my goils being there for me and still here for me....u goils are da bestest.

Mema, hope you heal soon and can get rid of those drains. When my friend had a BMX, her neighbor took two kids' terrycloth wash mitts and tied them together with a long grosgrain ribbon--draped over her neck, they held her drains while she showered.

Hospital banquet at the RItz-Carlton was pretty good. Cocktail hour, I had prosecco and a splash of Joel Gott Pinot Noir. (There were heaters and an outdoor fireplace out on the terrace--pix to follow). At dinner, an okay Tuscan Cabernet Sauv. that was more pleasant & fruity than the Pinot--the Cab. had soft tannins, but the Pinot was on the thin, acidic side. (Up really late tonight to make sure the wine wears off so I can sleep and not get reflux).

Good Morning, Loungettes! The power went out as I was getting ready to post yesterday, and just as I needed to leave to meet up with some friends for the day. So here is yesterday's post:

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunny Saturday!Breezy here, but the sun is coming out and it's supposed to be a beautiful day. Going to get together with some friends and go for a picnic and wander around Acadia National Park today. This weekend Maine residents can go in without buying a pass. We all went to high school there, except one of us, and she was our English teacher, so there are a few places we want to revisit. But mostly it will be a grand catchup and gossip session. Sadie wants to come but can't, she'd be stuck in the back of the car most of the day and would not be happy with that, so I have a couple of new toys for her to play with while I'm gone today.

Jazzy--Good advice. I am putting some feelers out for other options in the area. Not really hard job searching but looking around and keeping my ears open. You are right, it is best to just not respond to the hecklers, the others in the office will ask about it once to show their support and then let the matter go. I've figured out I can say "It's a census thing." and nothing more. This has happened before, in the main office, Clinical Manager #3, who is the one I would be working with in the new office, was hired in October but then the census dropped and she did not move into the CM role until February. As to the hecklers, it will be a shrug of my shoulders and "It is what it is." which is that CM's favorite response. No engagement has been my operating approach with them for a while anyway, no reason for that to change. Thanks for the support! And I am no worse off now than I was before, so there is that, too.I'm sorry to hear you are going through a similar change. Like you say, the health care industry is unstable.

Janky!Good to see you! Given the way things have gone down in the past I think the e-mail I got is going to be all the discussion about the situation that will be, unless I go asking for more.I don't plan to, I do understand the staffing/census situation in both offices, and a tiny part of me was sort of expecting something like this to happen. There is nothing really to reply to, other than the "Thank you for letting me know" I've already e-mailed back. Now to let time take its course. I really thought God wanted me in that position, and trying to hold on to the faith. As to the hecklers, you are right, as is Jazzy, I just won't engage.

Jazzy-That is good to hear!I am holding onto the "can't accommodate at this time" and the history of hiring and then delaying the start due to census as just a delay. I'm trying very hard not to think in terms of timelines, that will likely set me up for disappointment. But I am working on keeping the faith.

Hashy Smokes DOTD: Homemade Limoncello Recipe:

    • 10 lemons
    • 1 (750-ml) bottle vodka
    • 3 1/2 cups water
    • 2 1/2 cups sugar
    1. Using a vegetable peeler remove the peel from the lemons in long strips (reserve the lemons for another use). Using a small sharp knife, trim away the white pith from the lemon peels; discard the pith.
    2. Place the lemon peels in a 2-quart pitcher. Pour the vodka over the peels and cover with plastic wrap. Steep the lemon peels in the vodka for 4 days at room temperature.
    3. Stir the water and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Cool completely. Pour the simple syrup over the vodka mixture. Cover and let stand at room temperature overnight.
    4. Strain the limoncello through a mesh strainer. Discard the peels. Transfer the limoncello to bottles. Seal the bottles and refrigerate until cold, at least 4 hours and up to 1 month.

LDB, I'm so glad you checked in, I have been thinking so much about you and how surgery went. You have been through soooo much over the years, and always come out good. So stay out of that wabbit hole, and live life. Sorry that you and R are sick, like you need that! Are you home now or still at your DD's house?

Sandy, sounds funny to hear someone talk about outdoor fireplaces and heaters, when it's still so hot here, especially in Phoenix.

Heading home today. Went to the movies yesterday, saw Simple Favor. It was a good murder, drama, suspense movie. My DD will be here a week from Tuesday. Can't wait to see her.

Good Morning, again, Loungettes!I had a lovely day yesterday visiting with friends. We never did get to take the walk we were thinking about, and didn't even try to find the restaurant where we were going to have dessert, it was just totally too crowded. We're going to wait a week or two for the tourist load to ease off and try again for the restaurant. The wind was really blowing and my power went out just as I was getting ready to post here. It was back on by the time I got home, though. Sadie was not happy at being left at home, and she rearranged most of the living room furniture to say so! So today's work will include returning the furniture to their accustomed places and picking up all the things that she knocked off the stand and picking up all the doggy toys that were dumped out of the toy basket.Gotta love a dog that "speaks" her mind!

Goldie--Wow, good looking collections of canned goods there!I was able to get to the side of the road when the tire went. It didn't blow out all at once, I could hear/feel something different and was slowing down and pulling over when the tire started shredding.Them's some good looking beans!Do you hot water or pressure can the beans?

Mema--so glad the surgery went well! And that the report is good! The constricting bra and cover must be pretty miserable. I know the drains are miserable. And they were able to save skin and put in an expander?Great! I can imagine the wabbit hole is looming large just now. Tell you what, you put on this harness:

We'll pull you out if needs be!

Illi-I hope things get better soon, too, but in my case, I'm no worse off than before. Actually a little better off, as there is a light at the end of the tunnel, it's just that the tunnel turned out to be longer than anticipated! What's going on in your life?

Chi--sounds like a nice banquet! The idea about the wash mitts is great, too!

Good morning friends- Happy Funday Sunday! I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of autumn. We got a bunch of rain from a tropical storm that came up from Mexico mid week and finally cooled things down again. Highs now in the 85 with mornings in the 60s and feels like fall weather. It's been a lovely weekend and I am sitting on my patio after an early morning out to get a blood draw and some groceries. Taking a break to catch up on a few things before I get in to the rest of my day.

I saw my PCP on Monday for my annual check up with her. We are changing my meds for blood sugar back to the 1000 per day and adding the Trulicity back to my routine. I have been off the later for 2 months per the endocrinologist I finished up with in June but have found a number of issues since then (including higher blood sugar readings even on 2000 of metformin, continuous weight gain and also have had some GI issues too). So back to what I was doing and before. The thought was, I no longer needed the Trulicity, but the alternative is not working well so I resumed the weekly T shots on Monday. I already see better morning number for my sugars and hope to see the scales start going down again. I got a tetanus and flu shot on Monday (the T shot made my arm hurt for days, but it usually does) and on a list with Walgreens for the Shingrex shots. My blood work is the last of what we need to do for now and should have those results on line this week. I will see her again in Feb for a check in on the sugar issues. Also got some updated asthma meds. I am all tuned up!

So about the work issues, I have two projects I am currently working on for the healthcare group so like NM, things won't change right now as I have those to focus on this fall. I think they just wanted to get this third one done, but there were some changes on the other side of the house this week and they may need my help on the acute/hospital side. I know the manager there from other times and places and ran in to him and he said he was looking forward to working with me eventually. So I will wait until they ask me to help in the other area. They know I need enough hours to be kept busy and making enough money on this gig. I had a great talk with the technology leadership about the changes going on this past Friday am, and got a different take on it. That may just push to 2019 and he is working on a new schedule with them, but plenty for me to do right now. I learned what source to go to when these changes happen (and they will continue to do so) and who has the best information. The guy who initially told me seemed very overwhelmed last week/sky is falling, but understand that too.

Busy working on home, business other things this weekend. Took a bunch of clothing to consignment and they took everything! I got rid of some more of my too big items, but also given the change in weather (or winters are very mild now), I have too much winter stuff. So I took in 17 jackets, tops, and sweaters and came away with one cute Chico's jacket yesterday. The rule of thumb with donations and consignment is that if I end up getting anything at any of the places, I can only get 1-2 things to bring home. I am needing some more work clothing and consignment is great for that (sometimes my thrift shop too!)

Finally, I went to a fabulous jazz fusion concert last night with Chiele Minnuci and Special EFX, plus Nelson Rangell. I love Rangell's flute playing and was blown away at the complicated music he plays. Chiele is an amazing guitarist as well. I did not know their music as well as other people I have seen, but felt like I could have been sitting in the Blue Note in the Village watching a concert. I did not stay to get CDS and do the meet and greet after as I had to be up early for the blood work, but do plan to get some of their music otherwise. Yay for jazz!

Goldie- I saw all your canning activities and you have been one busy woman. I bet you have a lot stored for winter, do you give some away too? Did you get some of that big rain this week?

NM- I LOVE Acadia National Park, one of the most beautiful of the national parks and remember going there a couple times as a kid but also with a friend in college. We were out in a tent camping during the later trip, and I heard something sniffing around our tent middle of the night and was terrified it was a bear. I woke up my friend and told her there was a bear outside, and she looked outside and it was a huge St Bernard who was out foraging in the middle of the night. Lol. Did you guys have fun? Was there wine involved? I hope Sadie did okay without you....

Mema- I wanted to say I am also sorry to hear you and DH both have colds and the flu. So much stress, but won't make your recovery easier. I pray you have good pain meds and some cold medicines too. Sounds like you are getting recon too, which is good sister. You have been through much and glad you can come here to share with us. We will help you not go down the rabbit hole.....

Ill- how is retirement and life in Houston? Cooling down yet?

Janky- what is going on your way friend?

Chi- the banquet sounded yummy. How is your wrist coming along with healing and with regaining strength? And the roofing work? I know you are playing your music again and that tells me you are coming along but know it's a process. Do you and Bob have any trips planned the rest of this year?

Cami- thinking of you and all your boyfriends this weekend. Be sure to show Joey the clip above on Nelson's playing. He has a number of those studio clips out there and his playing is some of the most complicated I have ever seen. Hope Joey, Les and Marty and YOU are doing okay?

    Who am I missing?

Hope everyone has a good week! Will see you again next weekend for my regular check in, but I do tend to lurk during the week too......

I’m walking in October for Milesformetavivor and I have my 2nd Dia De Los Muertos 5k on 10/29. DH will be home next week, so I think we’ll have one last trip to the river (this time Blanco) before it getstoo cool.

Happy end of Sunday Funday everyone (and it has been a good one, despite 3 inches of snow!!) Seriously Alberta weather sucks big time - first day of fall and we get snowfall :(

I have had my sister and brother in law visiting from Montreal, 2200 miles away!! We crammed a whole lot of fun activities in our 2 weeks together, very hard to say 'so long'...made memories to treasure for many, many years I am hoping...I am running in the CIBC Run for the Cure September 30, and I will be on a team where all fundraising goes to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research only, so thankful for this. I go for contrast CT and Bone scans on October 10 then head to Australia for 5 weeks on October 12!!!!!So very, very, very excited and exciting to be taking my childhood dream trip. One of my sons has lived there for 5 years in the Brisbane area, so am also looking forward to seeing his home and family in their space...Wishing you a happy, healing week - cheers!

Chrissy - you are in Burra? We, hubby and I, are going to get to Robina, where our son and his fammily live, then make plans from there is what we decided just today, instead of booking tours from Canada, then not feeling like moving ;) My main goal is to get to the outback for a day, I am thinking you are quite a distance from Robina? Maybe a train service? janice

Janice, I am about a 2 1/2 hour flight, or a three day drive from where you will be.......Aus is a really big place. It may not be possible to catch up but please let me know your tour plans as I might be able to work something out. Chrissy

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monkey Monday! Fall temps have arrived, I actually turned on the heat yesterday, just to see how it will do. The heat pump works great! Took very little time to get the temp up from 55 degrees to 68 degrees. Now to see what it does to the electric bill. I'm sure it won't jump up to any where near the cost of filling the oil tank! Not really looking forward to going to work this ayem, but since I have become addicted to having an income, to work I will go. Sadie is lazing around this ayem. She's currently warming up the recliner. Now if only I wasn't getting up before the sun! Sunrise isn't for another 10 minutes or so.

Jazzy--I really do like this time of year, warm enough during the day to do stuff outdoors, cool enough to make cooking and baking comfortable indoors, and so pretty. I'm sorry the blood sugar and weight loss hit a snag, but gladyou have a plan to deal with it. I see my PCP next Monday, so I'll be getting my flu shot, too. Not sure what else she'll have in store for me this year. That flute player is really skilled! That is fantastic music. Thanks for sharing! We did have a good time, even though we never got to the park. We met at the home of one of us, her husband has lung cancer and wasn't having such a good day, so instead of going for a walk we stayed at the house and talked. We gabbed away for almost 5 hours! Sadie did fine, she just rearranged all the furniture in the living room. LOL at the St. Bernard out foraging in the middle of the night! Usually it's raccoons that are doing that around here.

Illi--Retirement is boring? Oh dear, not something to look forward to! The walks will be good for you, though.

Janky--3 inches of snow???? And I thought Maine weather was bad! Will this snow stick? Australia next? WOW!Can I hide in one of your suitcases? I've always wanted to see Australia. May the scan results be good ones!

Good morning ladies- going to get out for a quick early walk before I come home to get ready to head in to work. My exercise routines are not what they need to be right now but going to change up some things to get in more exercise for shorter durations as I can.

Janky- so exciting about you going to Australia in another two weeks. Your dream vacation too, you go girl. Fingers crossed on good scans so you can go on your trip feeling good about everything! too. That is a long flight you will be taking so dose up on some Vitamin C before you go (I always get colds when I take longer flights, ugh).

NM- my blood work results were in the portal already last night, that was super fast. Everything looked good and my A1C was up slightly from 5.7 to 6.1. I expected that based on what I was seeing with my daily checking, but still not bad either. I can tell the numbers are already better on the Trulicity. Your weather sounds really lovely and do love Maine in the fall.

ChrissyB- hi friend and thanks for saying hello here!

Okay ladies, check in with you down the line and have a good week!

NM, beans are pressure canned, water bath is not recommended for beans. I didn't get much of the tomatoes this go round, but I couldn't just throw them away! Love the harness for MemaSue. Hopefully you will get to that dessert soon. We too are waiting for visitors to be done up here in the mountain. That Sadie!!!

Wow Jazzy, sorry you weren't able to stay off certain meds. I guess there are just some things we can't control. I too have been gaining some weight recently. A year ago I lost a lot, too much, was down to almost 130, which is too little for my height. No change in eating habbits either, and still no change, but now I'm gaining! I do have lots of canned goods and I do give some away, but picky about who I give to. And if I give something away and don't get my jar back, they don't get anymore!!! Is that bad? I just feel like they don't appreciate all what goes into it. I have lost track of how many of each of the items I have canned. But it's been alot! We did not get the rain last week, was hoping to, but as usual it went around us. Something about the terrain here that causes a lot of moisture to just miss us.

Janky....SNOW! Yuck! I think I would have to move! 5 weeks in Austrailia, amazing. How long since you have seen your son? I only get to see my kids once a year, twice if I'm lucky. I just hate it. I hope you have nice weather on your trips. And wishing you good results on your tests. I would most definately hurt myself if I tried to run!

Chrissy, how sweet to pop in and offer to have coffee with Janky. But it looks like you guys are like 20 hours apart? Ahhh, I should read ahead before typing!

Nothing to report here on my end.

goldie0827, like you I only get to see my son once a year, twice if I'm lucky. I also hate that!! He works all the time and is a young guy with a life to lead. I remember those days from my own past and wouldn't want him to miss any of that! When my DH was working, he too worked about 80 hours a week, weekends etc. so we couldn't travel very often to see our DS. Lots of times I wish we had moved there when I was able. Better doctors, clinics, and being close to our son. However, he's just five years into his career and could be transferred or move on his own at any time so we stayed put in the backwoods of the backwoods. It's doggone lonely though.

Morning all - 39 degrees outside, snow is slowly disappearing, arghh! It is interesting to read the above and realize how many of us have children that live far enough away from home that we get yearly visits, sometimes twice, how the world has changed from back when our families were extended, now it is our circle of friends that we rely on. I have one son living in Florida, he left home at 18 to pursue hockey on a US Scholarship, he is now 39 and has lived in Europe and the US since then (meeting an American wife will do that) and then another of our sons moved to Australia, met the love of his life and stayed there too, it has been 5 years. I see both sets at least once a year, the Florida family sometimes twice.

NM - Maine has more consistent weather I am thinking, similar to Quebec where I grew up. Alberta has snow sometimes every month, though of course in summer, it is short lived, but it is still snow!! If I mentioned this before, ignore me ;) my oldest went to the UMaine Orono for 4 years which is where he met his wife who is from New Jersey, now they live in Florida!

Jazzy - I am blessed and lucky and so o o very excited to be leaving! Do you wear compression socks on long trips? Our flight is 14 hours Vancouver to Brisbane -ugh! It leaves at 11 pm so am hoping to sleep through a good part of it, just wondering about the socks though...

goldie - nice to hear from you, how are things going, apart from all that yummy canning? I too am picky as to who gets my stuff, though the last 2 summers I have only made beet pickles, and jam using cherries from our tree! My dh just retired so now we will travel more to warmer places as we have family in Florida, Georgia, Australia and Eastern Canada too - hopefully travel will keep the cold away!!

Muddlling - We stayed put here in Alberta, for the same reasons, if we tried to move to where our kids are and their lives/jobs moved them elsewhere, then what, so we stayed here and they ome back home when they can, or we go to them. We do have one son, the twin of our Aussie boy, and our daughter living close by so we really enjoy them and their families.

Wishing us all good test results, health and healing! Cheers janky
