how about drinking?

NativeMaine: That pear drink looks amazing! Cinnamon and pears and vodka...yes!
Interesting reading about THC and CBD oil. We are in a very non progressive state so I have plenty of time to learn about it before being able to try it.
All I want for Christmas is these nasty drains out! Still waiting on my champagne!

Wigging, CBD can be legally possessed in and shipped to all 50 states.

Well, the pellet stove managed fine all night long, but still need to head to town and pick up a new control box that we had over nighted. The plane will get in between 8-10 this morning, so will need to leave by 7. We will make our trip this coming Friday. We can't be gone and have the stove go out on us, it's our only source of heat and pipes in the house could freeze. We have cameras that we put out and can take a look in the house while we are gone.
Wiggy, hoping those drains come out for you soon. How are you feeling other wise?
I forget where everyone lives. I also see we have a new notice next to our icons, shows when we were last on.
NM, I'll save you the time and grab the next DOTD. It looks as yummy as the Partridge one! I missed you in the pewl the other morning, when we both posted DOTD's.

I always thought that the 12 days of Christmas began 12 days prior to Christmas, but this shows them beginning on the 25th.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! The temps have warmed up a bit around here, making night times interesting to listen to the scanner.Last night the temps dropped enough after dark to create a lot of black ice. There were so many accident reports at one point that the police were prioritizing sites with multiple cars off the road and crashes with injuries. There is once stretch of a local road that is rather notorious for black ice and crashes, it acted up last night, local police called in State Police to close that section of the road, and instructed the multiple ambulances responding to wait outside the icy area until Public Works could come by and sand. "Under no circumstances is ANYONE to attempt to come down the hill until it's sanded!" was one transmission. After all was said and done the first two responding police cars had to be pulled back onto the road since they slid off, too! Silly Sadie was extra cuddly last night, and it felt so good to have her warmth in the chilly bedroom. I sleep better if the bedroom is quite cool, and I love the contrast of the cool air on my face and the warmth of the bed warmer with me under the covers!
Goldie--well, your pellet stove was being a PIA, alright! Wonder why/how it decided to come back on? Can you trust it to work right now? Sadie seemed to like the piece of candied ginger I gave her the other day, but it was a small one, and maybe when she got a bigger one it was a different thing entirely! Hard to tell with her, sometimes!
Chi--At the 5 mg/day of THC you use, would you test positive if you were urine tested for drugs? In my job I can be randomly tested at any time, and even though Maine has protections against losing a job due to positive testing for MMJ, the parent company is national and follows Federal rules, so I can still be fired. I'd really like to try recreational MMJ just out of curiosity, but don't want to risk losing my job in a what that would make it almost impossible to get another, especially at my age! I really do believe that many natural and herbal remedies are effective because they use a number of compounds that work together to have an effect without the harsh side effects of single chemicals or compounds.
Muddling--Hooray for another treatment behind you, and a visit to a favorite restaurant!
Chi--Good to know that ER+ equals getting stoned more easily, if I ever get to try it I'll know to go slow and start low!
Wigging--praying the drains are out soon! They are a real Pain in the Anatomy to deal with.
Goldie--having cameras so you can look in on the house while you are gone sounds like a great idea! Thanks for posting the DOTD!I always thought the 12 days of Christmas started before the 25th, but I guess I never really researched it.
Hmmm.Doing a quick internet search I have come up with several sites, Christian, Catholic, and Protestant, that indicate the 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas Day and run through the 6th of January. Many sites reference this as being the time from the birth of Christ to the arrival of the 3 Wise Men. This page gives a pretty good summary:
https://people.howstuffworks.com/culture-traditions/holidays-christmas/twelve-days-christmas1.htm
Learned something new today!

Thanks Goldie for the true meaning of the twelve days of Christmas, I did not know this either.

Wow ChiSandy, I didn’t realize that at all...I thought we were still in some kind of legislative war over that. Huh.
I’m doing ok besides the whole not able to drive or move my arms thing...haha. No seriously I am doing well, very little pain and anxious to see oncologist Monday. Oh, and get these drains out!

Good morning friends- still grinding through Xmas but had to share this cute pic. I sent my sister some Harry and David pears as part of their Xmas present and someone very much liked the holiday box they came in and took it over for his very own!
Tis the season to be purring......

Goldie and NM, growing up we always started the 12 days on Christmas Day. That chart with the meaning of each number is good!
Jazzy, I love the cat in the box. He looks like a character.
Cami, I am always losing texts on the phone. I don't know how I do it. Using this tablet is hard enough. Hope you and yours are doing better.

Yes, 5mg of THC--if ingested within 28 days of a drug test--would show up. In fact, even the minuscule amount (0.3%) of naturally-occurring THC in full-spectrum (fully-legal) CBD products could lead to a positive drug test. Therefore, if you are in a situation in which you might be compelled to submit to drug testing, you should look for CBD products made from pure CBD isolate--they will say so and the label will truthfully state there is NO THC--not even a smidgen--in it. Hemp Bombs is the most dependable brand of 100% THC-free CBD--their oils taste like the flavorings, not terpenes (I like the watermelon); and their gummies are dependable for natural sleep.

ChiSandy - Thanks for the useful info on CBD prods & drug tests. My employer does random drug screen & has published warnings to all employees on their use. Will see if Hemp Bombs brand is available. Those gummies for natural sleep sound wonderful.

NM, glad you didn't have to go out on that black ice. My son got stuck a week or so ago after that big snow fall in NC. Made it ok down a hill, but couldn't get back up the other side. Thankfully someone stopped and pulled him back up. I too like a cool room, but DH likes it warm. Pellet stove is working fine, however we got the new part and it will get put in today. I'm just hoping that was the problem and it doesn't go out while we are gone! Temps will be going to mid 20's at night, so it should freeze in the house, if that were the case. Funny how we all thought the 12 days of Christmas started before Christmas.
Wiggy, still hoping those drains come out tomorrow. I know some gals have them in for quite some time.
Jazzy, cat in the box, how cute! I'll bet you didn't know you were getting him/her a gift as well.
Cami, I hope you made it to the party and had a tun o fun! You make your posts on a phone? I thought you had a puter. I would only be posting a sentence or two if I had to do it on a phone, or even a tablet for that matter.
Muddling, I guess you had it right about the 12 Days of Christmas!
NM, it's the weekend and I think I'm up earlier than you! 4 am this morning.
DOTD, you guessed it......
3 French Hens!0 -
I am obsessed and gathering the ingredients to that pear drink and making it my first post surgery cocktail! Thank you ladies!
Goldie, I’m seeing the oncologist tomorrow so I doubt he will mess with my PS’s drains 😞 but I guess I could hope...it’ll be 3 weeks if I get them out on Thursday. I am no longer a fan of them! Hahahaha.
ChiSandy, looking in to hemp bombs

I always thought that the 12 Days of Christmas started on Dec. 25--because the Feast of the Epiphany (aka Twelfth Night) is Jan. 6--when it's customary around here to take down the decorations and either drag the tree to the alley or city mulching service or dismantle the fake tree and take it doen to the basement.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monkey Monday! Waking up to 2 inches of snow. Sigh. But, had a very nice visit with Mom and Dick and my brother and his wife yesterday.Sadie loved all the extra attention. She was one tired puppy when we got home! But she woke up in the middle of the night and moved from the left to the right side of the bed again. I swear she did it just to have an excuse to wake me up with her cold wet nose on the back of my neck!
Wigging--the whole recovery thing is a bit of a pain, but if you follow instructions you have a much better chance of a good outcome, and it's only for a little while. I do hope the drains come out today!
Morning, Lomlin!
Jazzy--how cute!Purrfect fit, too!
Cammy--Oh, no!The post-stealing gremlin hits again! Enjoy the shower and the family get-together.
Muddling--did/do you do something special for each day of Christmas? I never met anyone who celebrated the 12 days before, I'm curious!
Chi--thanks for the info.
Celia--let us know how they work for you, ok?
Goldie--having the house freeze while you are away is NOT a good thing! I see you found the same 12 days of Christmas drinks site I did!I really need to get the stuff to make a 3 French Hens drink, it sounds wonderful!
Wigging--the drains are not fun, not even for the first few days. But necessary. You will feel much, much better when they come out, but don't rush it, seromas are very uncomfortable (actually, downright painful, especially if they get infected) and to be avoided if at all possible!
Chi--I'm just hearing about the Feast of the Epiphany from researching the 12 days of Christmas. Is this a Catholic observance?

Wiggy, may I call you that? The drains are not any party, that's for sure! If you do make the Partridge in a Pear Tree, please let us know and take a picture!
NM, I had forgotten that you had your family Christmas this weekend, and of course Sadie had a good time. What did ya's have to eat? And what is with that girl, moving from side to side on the bed! We do have a propane fireplace, but it's in the bedroom, and to have that on for week would probably cost a fortune! But once the stove came back on, we had no problems. DH got the new control panel in yesterday, so hoping for no issues whilst we're gone. And same with you if you make that cocktail. Are you going to do the chocolate leaf….LOL. As for the site, I just google for which day of Christmas, but I do think it goes to the same site each time. Fun to see what the next day is going to be.
Jazzy, when are leaving for the hot spings?
Nothing exciting going on here, I was going to wait until we got back from CA to clean, but now that we aren't going til the end of this week, I'm doing it now. You know, bathrooms, wash floor, etc. The floor takes a long time, usually 2-3 days.I had sent my daughter her Xmas package, a pair of earrings, Pandora bracelet with heart (she broke hers) and then some small pcs of petrified wood. They use them at the restraint she works at to hold the tabs down on the tables, as it's all outside. Well people take them, so she always gets more to take home when she's here and I had room in the flat rate padded envelope so I sent her more. She says to me, how funny that you have a daughter that gets excited about getting rocks in the mail!
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me four calling birds (who live in a spice tree).
Now this one does not excite me!
1oz Plymouth gin
½oz fresh lime juice
2oz ginger beerDirections
Serve Plymouth gin with fresh lime juice, spicy ginger beer and a sprig of fresh rosemary.0 -
NM, we didn't do anything special for the 12 days. We took down most decorations but had to leave the nativity out until twelfth night. That was kind of nice. I still do that.
Goldie, I had to laugh at being happy to get a package of rocks.
0 -
Goldie, I like those earrings! Where did you get them?
0 -
Lin, I got them from an ad I saw on FB. Paid only $12.00 for them, so I got 3 pair. They ship from China so it takes about a month to get them. They have super cute necklaces and rings too.
They sent me a code and I got an additional 20% off! Simply use code "ACTIVATE20" at checkoutMud, I take some pics of my petrified wood to share here.

When I went to see the late Carrie Fisher on B'way in her one-woman show "Wishful Drinking," the bar was totally non-alcoholic, per her request. The signature "mocktail" was the "Wishful Drinking:" pear puree muddled with ginger, cinnamon, and sugar and topped with spicy ginger beer or ginger ale. It was delicious.

Ok loungettes, and yes Goldie you may call me Wiggy...I like it! I had half a drink with lunch today after my oncology appointment. No news on Oncotype yet, but I do get to have my holidays without chemo or tamoxifen as no decision will be made until 1/15. I don’t have the recipe, but this is the Smoking Bishop and it involves mulled wine, nutmeg, and brandy.

Hi ladies- been one kind of a CRAZY ride the end of this year with the work thing. Our data migration did not work out in the wee hours of the morning and so now we are regrouping. Talk about the project that will never die! Ugh. I ended up opting out of a party yesterday as I just needed sleep more than anything else. I feel better today but back to work. That being said, I am leaving at 5 p.m. every day this week and not letting this place rule my world.
NM- I hope you had a good visit with the fam! I want to know too what you ate?
ChiSandy- I love that Carrie did that. Did you see her documentary that was out a year or so ago on HBO. It was so good and a real eye opener about her life and also the great relationship she had with her mom.
Goldie-those earrings are cool & think I saw those on FB too. I am going to the hot springs this coming Sunday for three days. Got treatments planned on Sun and Mon. This girl needs some time in the healing waters of Northern NM. I got some nice cash for Xmas for my treatments, whoot!
Cami- dang girlfriend, I do that a lot too. Sometimes my Comcast will drop and poof, there it goes. Santa wants to know if you have been naughty or nice?
Wigging- that cocktail was just waiting for you. Are you feeling any better? I did not have drains but know they are a PITA.
Any new year's resolutions ladies? Start writing them up......

I did see the HBO movie about Carrie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds when it came out--it was heart-rending but also entertaining.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Waking up to 4.1 inches of snow this ayem. The snow is supposed to stop later this ayem. Then a big rain storm is due in on Friday into Saturday. Yuck, that is going to make a mess! Poor Sadie's feet got quite wet when she went out this ayem. The temps have been right around freezing, so the snow is very wet and heavy. Now the wind is picking up and they are talking about wind chill for today. Ah, winter in Maine!
Goldie--We had the traditional turkey, stuffing, carrots, peas, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes for dinner. The new twist this year was a store bought pie rather than home-made. That created some discussion! I got the Bailey's and Kahlua, thought I had a little Chambord but I don't, so will have to pick up some. Not going to do the chocolate leaf, I know how to make them, but not going to spend that kind of time on a bit of decoration for just me! The DOTD's are fun, aren't they? LOL at sending rocks to the daughter! I think the Four Calling Birds sounds yummy. Oh, my, those earrings are GEORGOUS!
Muddling--my family usually left the Christmas decorations up until New Year's Day or the day after.
Morning, LomLin!
Chi--That mocktail sounds very tasty, I bet it was fun to drink!
Wiggy--mulled wine is always good. Adding brandy just makes it better!
Jazzy--We had the traditional turkey, stuffing, carrots, peas, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes for dinner with a "boughten" pie for dessert. There is still grumbling going on about the "boughten" pie, but I thought it was good and took the rest home with me! Sorry the data migration didn't work out right. Good for you for not letting the job rule your life. Good example for the rest of us!

Wiggy, that's one pwetty dwinkie! Was it delish? I've been having a BC break meese self, still taking my FU pills, but haven't been to my onc or had any bloodwork done. Supposed to do both every 6 weeks, haven't since October sometime. I have to have scans and waiting to do those in the new year so I can hit my deductable. I feel like seeing him and having bloodwork IS NOT going to cure me, so what's the big deal, right?
Jazzy, bummer that you had to opt out a party for sleep, but if you needed it that bad then it was a good call. Sorry things have been so busy for you, I know that 3 day hot springs visit will do you much good and try not to even think about work. No resolutions for me, I just try to be a good person.
NM, funny poem for Maine. You just be careful out there in that weather, which I know you will be and hopefully you have all your emergency stuff in your car if needed. I know there were always funny things to say about Michigan, one being if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it will change. Ya know you can still post DOTD, I was just helping out!!! But of course ANYONE can post it, one person is not delegated to do it. I miss having any traditional dinner that has turkey or ham and all the good stuff that goes with.
I thought the earrings were adorable, just wish I could wear them, but I can't wear cheap stuff, nothing with nickle in it. My ears would start to hurt just after a few hours. Being that it's Tuesday, I think with do a toofer. 2 DOTD's
1. 5 Golden Rings. How Pretty!
4 oz. Jack Daniel's Winter Jack Cider (I received a sample)
8 oz. Fresh Pressed Apple Cider
2 oz. Orange Bitters*
◾Edible Gold Flakes with 1 oz. Winter Jack added(4-5 Servings)
Add the Winter Jack, apple cider, and orange bitters to a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice. Shake lightly then strain into martini glasses. Open the bottle of edible gold flakes and pour the 1 oz. of Winter Jack in.
Reseal the bottle and shake. The more you shake, the smaller the gold flecks will become. Pour a little bit of gold flecks in each glass.
Note: Each bottle of edible gold flakes makes about 4-5 cocktails. Also, this is a very unique cocktail, so the two ounces of bitters is correct for the recipe, but you can use less if you prefer.
Spun Sugar Gold Rings
1/2 c. White SugarHeat the sugar over medium high heat, stirring frequently. The sugar will start to clump together, then liquify. Watch it very carefully at this stage–the moment it turns a light golden color, remove from the heat, otherwise you will overcook it and burn the sugar.
Set aside to cool for about a moment, then drizzle the sugar into rings on a foil or wax paper-lined baking sheet. Allow the sugar to harden, about five minutes, then place on top of the cocktail.
2 Smoking Bishop, courtesy Wiggy.
Quite the instructions! There must be an easier way! Tenders, could you get on this?
DescriptionLearn to make a Victorian inspired recipe for Smoking Bishop, a mulled wine holiday punch from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
Ingredients
5 oranges
• 2 lemons
• 30 whole cloves
• 1/4 tsp cinnamon
• 1/4 tsp allspice
• 1/4 tsp mace
• 1 piece fresh ginger root (thumb-sized), peeled and cut into chunks
• 750 mL red wine (1 bottle)
• 1/2 cup sugar, or more to taste
• 750 mL ruby port (1 bottle)
Instructions1.If using organic oranges and lemon, remove any stickers and scrub them clean gently with a brush or rough sponge, then pat dry. If using non-organic citrus, fruit will have a thicker layer of wax on the peel. It is best to remove the wax from the outer peel before proceeding. To do this, combine 1 cup of water with 2 tbsp distilled white vinegar and 1 tbsp lemon juice. Pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray the fruit to coat, or dip the fruit into the solution to cover completely. Let the fruit sit for 10 minutes, then rinse under cool water and scrub gently with a brush or rough sponge till the wax is removed. Pat dry.
2. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. To start, you will need the 5 oranges and 1 of the lemons; reserve the second lemon for later. Make 5 small incisions with a sharp knife into each orange and the lemon. Stick whole cloves into each incision. Place oranges and lemon on a baking sheet.
3. Place the fruit in the oven. Let it roast for about 75 minutes, till the peels begin to lose their bright color and turn paler. Remove fruit from the oven. Replace any cloves that have fallen from their incisions, then place the fruit into the bottom of a large bowl.
4. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the cinnamon, allspice, mace, and ginger chunks. Whisk together and bring to a boil. Simmer the mixture for a few minutes, stirring frequently, till the liquid is reduced by half. Remove from heat
5. In a larger pan, pour the bottle of red wine (not the port) and heat over medium high till it boils. Reduce heat to a slow simmer, then pour in the sugar and whisk till it dissolves. Let the wine simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in the spiced liquid mixture. Remove from heat.
6. Pour the heated wine over the roasted oranges and lemon. Stir the fruit and wine gently to combine.
7. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap. Place the bowl in a warm corner for 24 hours. I like to keep it closed in the oven, with the oven turned off—it seems to stay warmer than the rest of the kitchen due to the pilot light, especially during the winter.
8. After 24 hours, slice the oranges and lemon in half. Juice them into the spiced wine.
9. Pour the wine mixture through a wire mesh strainer into a pot to remove large spices and solids. Press down gently on the solids with a spoon to remove as much liquid as possible.

Got my Dexa scan results back already from yesterday. Things about the same 10 months off the AIs, still osteopenic. Will continue on with Prolia for now. Next shot with upcoming MO visit in January.

Leave it to me to find the most complicated drink in the entire universe! Thanks Goldie for posting! It was delish for sure...I made it through only half of it since it was noon and my first drink in 2 plus weeks!
I’m just now reading through some of your signatures. You ladies have been through some stuff! Thank you for welcoming me into this group. I’m such a newbie in BC world and I’m inspired by you ladies! I wish none of us had to be here because of cancer! Jazzy, I’m not well versed in Dexa scan lingo but I hope this was ok news for you. I am sure I’ll have the opportunity to learn in the future
NativeMaine....I am just a “short” ride down the coast in South Carolina. If you ever need to thaw out, come see me!

Goldie, I hope there is an easier way to make that drink. We make something similar using basically the ingredients you show except we call it Glug, but not nearly as extensive to make as your recipe.
0 -
Jazzy, good that things are the same and not worse. Can they actually get better?
Wiggy yep, most complicated drink we have ever had here, that's for sure! That would be nice if you and NM could meet. I have not had the pleasure of meeting her, but have been buds with her for probably close to 10 years.
ooooh Lin, not my recipe at all! Just found it on the internet. No way would I go through that much trouble for drink! I like the "Glug" reference.
