how about drinking?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! It's going to be a beautiful day here today, Sadie and I are going to do some outdoor work, finally. Was listening to the weather guy on TV this ayem and found out why my asthma's been acting up a bit--the haze we're seeing isn't fog and pollen, it's pollen with smoke from the Alberta wildfires. It amazes me how far smoke can travel and still be visible and have an effect on local weather.
Morning, Cammy Cat!
Jazzy--It's finally getting warm enough here to enjoy sitting on the deck, but the skeeters have come out.I need to mix up a batch of bug repellent and a batch of sunscreen while I'm at it.
Cammy--glad to hear Marty's doing well. 12 days of rain?Yuck. The 2 days of rain, one of cloudy but no rain pattern we've got going here is bad enough!
Muddling--I'm glad the cataract surgery isn't a bad one to go through. The very thought of it scares me silly!
Jazzy--how beautiful!
Chi--Of course it will rain when you need to wear flip-flops!
Cammy--have a nice nap!

Hi ladies- going to take a bit of a break here from BCO here in June with many things going on this month; lots of weekend summer events, family visiting the week after next, etc. I don't want you to worry about me if I go under the radar for awhile, just gonna be busy.....
Will catch up with you later in June or by early July! Be well friends!

Sitting here waiting for the Neulasta patch to finish. Beautiful at the beach. 87 degrees with a soft breeze. Will be in the ocean soon. Hope everyone is having a great Weekend!

Hey, JCS--Bob & I just booked a 4-day timeshare stay in Myrtle Beach for next May (our friends who moved down to Charleston are free in late July this year, but that's hurricane season and Bob can't get the time off). Here's the thing: neither of us sail, fish, nor golf. No appetite for hokey touristy "jukebox musicals" ("Beautiful" and "Jersey Boys" spoiled us for anything lesser in that genre, and just driving past Branson, MO gives me hives). We are both as pale as beached whales and sunbathing is disastrous for us. Any ideas what there is to do in Myrtle Beach (other than drive 3 hrs to Charleston, or 2 hrs to Wilmington, NC for what I recall to be killer BBQ & seafood)? Is it close to any of the Gullah towns, and would white Yankees be welcome there?
Friday was lovely--temps up in the 80s, but I didn't grill because Bob wouldn't be home before the storms (a daily occurrence) hit. Today? Barely made it into the 60s. We had the Holy Cross Physicians' Dinner out in Burr Ridge--but that hospital is suffering financially (an increasingly impoverished minority patient base, Mt. Sinai--with whom it merged in 2015--treating it like their crazy-uncle-in-the-attic, and the aging nuns of the Sisters of St. Casimir, who founded and ran the place, dying off). What used to be really cool banquets in major hotels (Marriotts, Hyatts, Hiltons) first downtown and then in upscale suburbs--with live bands, entertaining keynote speakers, full bars, passed hors d'oevres and upscale nicely-presented multi-course menus and elaborate sweet-tables--has devolved into little more than a bland three-course business meal preceded by fried Indian appetizers in chafing dishes, in a tiny ballroom of what is now a "Crowne Plaza" but had obviously previously been a family-oriented downscale "travelers'" hotel on the "poorer" side of the street. (The hotel has only a bar--no restaurant). Not even one nun to deliver the benediction, much less any pastor. (They left it to one of the doctors, who perfunctorily recited it as if he'd drawn the short straw or was tagged to be "It").
My drink was first seltzer (with a slice of lemon the bartender had to fetch from the kitchen) and then with dinner (I skipped the apps. because they didn't seem to be worth wasting my rationed "aligner-out" time) an extremely boring non-vintage Corbett Canyon chardonnay. (No, I didn't finish even one glass). Bob reports at least the Scotch was a good Islay single malt (Lagavullin--the doctors don't care about their wines, cocktails & beers, but they're deadly serious about their booze). And to add insult to injury, these banquets are no longer annual, but biennial. No catered fundraisers either (which we used to hold at museums) because nobody has the time or money to organize them and even fewer people willing to cough up major donations.
After the 2013 merger with Mt. Sinai--and the terrific (albeit noisy and millennial-oriented) Mt. Sinai fundraiser at Cinespace Studios where I won a director's chair autographed by the "Chicago Fire" cast in 2014--Bob says that Mt. Sinai stopped having galas or banquets. But I supect they still do--they just don't tell anyone from their embarrassing down-at-the-heels mid-South Side stepchild. (Mt. Sinai acquired it for free when no Catholic health system would buy it after the Archdiocese cut it loose).
I am enjoying a LaCroix pineapple-strawberry seltzer before hitting the sack. Brunch at Cellars tomorrow--and I'll be having a drink and meal that'll be worth giving my teeth a furlough from their "plastic jail!"

Mornin ladies,
JAZZY WHAT R U DOING, I'll miss u so much.
JC what a lovely picture and place to go I hope ur doing well to enjoy everything u do.
Sandy u must type 100 words a minute, I'm back at 2 fingers. It's a shame these hospitals can't afford what they used to it has to hit the moral of all the people involved. Is it cu of insurance problems, cuz it seems like there are plenty going into hospitals nowadays, more than ever. It seems like Drs. hands are tied in so many ways to me anyway.
Kim smoke from the Alberta Fires. Holy chit that's a long way to travel. The wind must be going in the same direction, but never thought u'd be involved.
Joey and I had such a wonderful talk last nite about "college" he <at this time> is so concerned about his classes cuz he wants to take all college courses which he already started and like all other freshmen <I'm sure> has gotten letters from different colleges and he knows it's impossible for us to afford he follows the courses and carries an A average. But I know he's so young anything could gear him off track, but at this time he thinks since he's wanted something since he was like 6 he's going to work like mad for it, He said he's having fun too, which I think is so important. And he's doing very well with his clarinet but I don't really know what he can do with that as years go by. He's already to be a sophomore which BTW I can't believe but it's all going by so fast. I do so enjoy talking with him even tho now he has to dumb down his vocabulary, which real,ly mamkes me feel old and forgetful. LOL
Hope everyone has a great Sunday and it's JUNE already 1/2 way thru the year, Yikes.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Got the mints plots cleaned out and replanted, got some peppers potted up and some herbs in various pots on the deck. Got one big pot of flowers that are really perking up already.Didn't get any mowing done, aiming for that today. Lots of lugging around yesterday and my arms and back are reminding me that I haven't been doing that kind of thing lately. Sadie got very tired out running around and supervising me and the whole neighborhood yesterday. I think she slept as hard as I did last night!
Jazzy--Have a good June!
Librarian--what a beautiful spot to wait in!Enjoy the swim!
Chi--It's sad to see how local hospitals are getting bought up and then sold out by big health systems. Same thing is happening near me, a formerly Catholic hospital, now part of a national system (purporting to be Catholic but doesn't act like it's driven by any religious principles I know of), the nuns retiring to the Mother House in New York. The atmosphere is totally different in the hospital now, much more money focused.I'm not even sure the local convent is even still open.
Cammy-Cat==Good idea!
Jamaica Sunday

Sandy, there are outlets near North Myrtle Beach if you like shopping. Then check this link to see if you'd like Brookgreen Gardens.
Most of the rest is touristy. We've been to MB dozens of times but we go specifically to do nothing except rest on the beach and eat out, lol. We actually prefer North Myrtle Beach.

Super Sunday Funday greetings from very smokey Alberta!!
NM - Wow, hard to fathom the intensity of the smoke working its way to Maine, it has been like waking up to fog daily here, but the minute you go outside your eyes dry up, etc. It has been dreadful, especially for people with lung issues (Alberta has the highest rate of asthmas sufferers in Canada is what I have heard) Glad you and Sadie have been able to enjoy yard work, as it can be relaxing - to some!
Jazzy - Enjoy your wee break, relax and have fun with your family and friends and co workers.
JCS - I love your beachy pic - so relaxing!
Chi - Between now and next May I am thinking you will find there are lots of places that you and Bob can enjoy, even though 'touristy', beaches are like therapy for me, I just love the whole gamut, though I too prefer less people...
cami - keep those kitties coming! how are you doing? 12 days of rain??! Ugh!
muddling - I am sooo looking forward to 'seeing' clearly again, so I will put up with the nuisance of drops of course! good to see you back (or maybe it is me who hasn't been around?!)
Well - today's DOTD is colonoscopy cleansing clear fluids, getting ready for tomorrow... Cheers!

Eureka!!! I've figured something out. Ok here's the thing if I drink coffee until 7PM I can pretty much stay up all day and sleep around 11PM thru the night. Now if I stop at noon around 3PM I start to sleep and sleep all evening and sometimes even sleep all night. OK the other day I didn't feel like drinking any coffee and I slept all day and night. Hmmmm, it's the drugs. <I think>
Oh the other day when Marty had his operation he had to wake up at 3AM and drink 16oz of Gatorade and take a tylenol and was operated on at 7am. Does everyone know about this stuff, never heard of it.
OK Janky I don't like ur DOTD ick, Does anyone remember at least when u could take pills, the same result but that is awful to drink that chit. The whole procedure sounds awful but it's nothing. It's the drinking that so disgusting....let us know.
WTF I really didn't know how bad the fires were in Alberta, I've never heard of any happening there like this.
Wow Kim u really did a ,lot of work around ur home. I'm sure u knocked Sadie out too. Jeezz when u make up ur mind you can't stop. But I know what u sow u will reap <is that right>
When is Lori coming back and I already miss Jazzy and then I miss when some of u miss....I hate any change, except good ones.
My DOTD tonight is berry Propel and when Dan comes over he brings me great Root Beer in a bottle <old fashioned> it's so good, cuz I never drink any kind of soda, no political stand, just don't care for it anymore. <well there must be some political thing about it>

Good morning, Loungettes!Happy Monkey Day! Back to work we go.I forgot to turn the alarms back on after turning them off for the holiday weekend last week, so got a bit ofsleep in, till quarter to 6. I'm surprised Sadie didn't try to get me up! I guess she's learned to listen for the alarm.
Cammy Cat--love the kitty's green eyes! Looks like we bumped each other into the pool!
It's truly amazing how far smoke from a really big fire can travel.I've got pictures somewhere of what looks like a foggy day that is actually heavy smoke from a wildfire in Canada that I took years and year ago. You'd swear it was a thick fog and not smoke. Makes for fantastic sunrises and sunsets, though. So Joey is thinking about college?I suppose that's pretty normal. One thing he should start doing now is looking for scholarships. Most communities have a surprising number of scholarships available, if one qualifies. They may not be large, but together they add up.But you have to look for them. The school guidance counselor is a good place to start. If he has an idea what he wants to study, he can look at the websites for the local businesses in the area for scholarships and internships. Going to college is a big step, and I'm sure you are glad that it won't happen for a couple more years!
Muddling--Ah, resting on the beach and eating out, that sounds like a great vacay!
Janky--I was surprised to hear this smoke was coming from so far away,Usually when this happens the wildfire is in Ontario or Quebec, but Alberta is on the same jet stream pattern, and I've read that's what drives where the smoke goes. It must be pretty horrible for you. I do like working in the garden when it's not super hot, or very humid or cold and damp. I'm not as attentive to the garden as the summer goes on as I should be, so I don't always get a good crop, but I enjoy it anyway. Good luck with the colonoscopy prep. The procedure is easy, but the prep, boy oh boy, not something I look forward to at all!
Cammy--Coffee is an amazing substance!I couldn't live without out it! Marty probably had to get up and drink Gatorade to prevent dehydration and make starting the IV easier, taking tylenol before hand helps block pain during and after. That one comes from moving away from using narcotics and trying to use the least amount of narcotics during and after surgery. You know, the war on addiction starts at surgery! I did get some stuff done but not as much as I wanted to. Got tokeep working on stuff.Housework never seems to be done.I love a good Root Beer, and a good Cream Soda, and of course, Moxie and Birch Beer. I try to stay away from soda pop, I eat better overall if I don't drink soda. But when it's hot in the summer, boy, an ice cold soda really hits the spot!
Wildfire Cocktail
Ingredients
- 1 ounce Midori (or Any Melon Liqueur)
- 1/2 ounce Watermelon Vodka
- 1 ounce Vodka
- 1/4 ounce Simple Syrup
- 1 teaspoon Bacardi 151 (optional)
- Ice
Instructions
- In a shaker add your Midori, watermelon vodka, plain vodka, and simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice to the liquid line. Give it a 30 second hard shake and strain into a heatproof coupe or martini glass (or any small heat proof glass) to serve.
Optional Fire Floater
- After you've poured your cocktail into your heatproof coupe flip over the back of a bar spoon and slowly layer your Bacardi 151 on top of the cocktail. Putting away your 151 and clean up any drips/spill, taking a stick lighter, carefully light your cocktail by hover the flame just above the liquid surface. Once it lights, let the cocktail burn out or CAREFULLY AND GENTLY blow it out when ready to consume. Let glassware cool before consuming!
BE CAREFUL the glassware and the top layer of the cocktail will be very hot. Let it cool down before consuming the drink. Elsewise you can burn yourself. Use a paper straw to sip the cocktail from the bottom up if you don't want to wait for it to cool all the way down.

Mornin' ladies,Kim I wrote that after 10pm last nite so no pewl for us today, well so far. That's why I put the thing with Joey last nite, I knew I'd get some pointers here. See when my sisters girls went to college she worked there so they just went and din't cost a thing for any of them, so they didn't have anything to do about searching around. I don';t know how far u r from Alberta, but it doesn't sound close, Im really surprised. And u did have a busy weekend, now back to work, whic u like so that part is good. Sadie will probably rest today.
Looks like more rain is coming today, like every other day around here. And I just put my heater on for a while, it's chilly for me in the morning.
Dan told me he ordered my puter, well I know he'll set it up but I hate the thought of learning anything anymore. Oh I ordered something <cheap> on my WISH thingy and it was all in chinese this time, but thanks to Joey he did the interpretation and it's hand cream which I need. LOL I had it for about a week before Jodie told me to ask Joey to do this, I didn't know u could do it. See what I mean
OK My phones have started so I've got to get busy.

Good evening everyone - just 'pooping' in to say my colonoscopy was good - no polyps, so I am good for 5 more years!!
NM - I was surprised the smoke goes as far as Maine! How bizarre these weather paths are! The last couple of days it has cleared so I hope, for everyone's sake, that the fires will stop!
Muddling and JCS - enjoy your beaches!
Jazzy - Hi if you're 'scanning' the thread.
I am off to bed to read as I am totally 'pooped' out (literally too). Cheers!

Happy Tuesday - skies are gray, but temperature is decent, so that is okay. Just piked fresh rhubarb from my garden, so going to make a gluten free crisp for friends coming for a visit tomorrow - childhood friends for 60 + years, soooo exciting!
goldie, chi, illimae - how are you all doing?
Wishing us all a 'cheerful week'... Cheers

Hi janky and everyone 🙂
I’m doing well, pretty much recovered from the latest brain rads (minor soreness at one of the pin sites) and back at the gym. I’ll also be prepacking this week for my New England trip, which begins on 6/19. DH and will visit his niece in Vermont, go to a clambake in Maine (thanks for the tip NM), do the “Amity island” Jaws tour on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass (my fav movie) and maybe pop up to Canada, if time permits, I’m super excited.

Hello to all!
I haven't posted any thing in awhile, but have been reading everybody else's posts - hmmm...does that make me a stalker or a troll??? It is so hot here right now, I really don't drink much alcohol now because it makes me have hot flashes. I still like drinking those frozen drinks though sitting out at the pool. I am still just busy with work and home, so nothing exciting in my life right now. I am thinking about planning a mini vacation for myself, it would get me away from work and home responsibilities.
Wow Illimae ! I this this trip sounds fun. I hope you have a fantastic time. I like that movie too, would love to see the house.

Last night was too chilly to grill outdoors, so instead of cedar-planking the rest of the salmon I merely pan-seared it. Besides all the seltzers, the DOTD I had with it was Fess Parker (yeah, Davy Crockett) 2015 Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir, which I Coravined. Yum!
Up to 80 right now, but nothing from the freezer defrosted--and Bob's not home yet, so I'll just make a salad & pasta primavera. Not sure what to drink with it other than seltzer, and a nice decaf cappuccino after.

illimae - That sounds like a fabulous trip for sure - New England area among my favorite places ever - growing up we spent almost every summer weekend in Vermont, then would venture to Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts for longer weekends and week long vacays, we all loved it very much! Glad your pain is minimal, once your routine get back it will hopefully disappear.
misty - you live in my other favorite place - Florida!! Hmmmm you can be whatever you want to be - a stalker, a troll or just yourself too, it is just nice to see that you are still keeping tabs on the thread.
chi - you always have such lovely meals and bevvies too, reading your posts often makes my tummy growl.
Well I am off to bed though the sun is still shining brightly at 9:11 p.m. go figure - that is Alberta. Cheers!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day!Yesterday's early ayem session went well.Sadie was not so happy with the change in routine, probably because I forgot to put her food down before I left! We have a routine, I get the coffee started, check the rain gauge, fill her dish, start my breakfast. Yesterday it was get up, get dressed, head out.So what did I see when I got home? Sadie's dish in the middle of the kitchen floor, surrounded by all the canned goods she had taken off the shelf in the pantry where her food and food dish are kept. Pretty clear message!
Cammy Cat--aw, I look forward to our pool dips and chats at the swim up bar! Alberta is near the west coast, so the smoke is coming a VERY long way! It seems to have cleared out quite a bit over the last couple of days, for which I am grateful. I've been putting the heater on the ayems for a little bit off and on too.Crazy for so late in the season! Isn't that Wish thing fun?
Janky--hooray for surviving the colonoscopy prep! And for the good results! Ooh, rhubub!I love rhubarb and strawberry/rhubarb pies!
Illi--I can't wait to see pics of your trip! I've often thought about going to see Martha's Vineyard and the Amity Island tour sounds like a blast!Jaws is just a classic movie, still makes me jump in places!
Misty--reading and not posting makes you another one of the Loungettes! Some are more active than others, that's all. Busy is good, right?
Chi--Fess Parker wine?What a riot!Sparkling Chardonnay sounds very yummy!

Janky glad your scope got a good report. I'm not at the beach or even planning to go, dang it. Someone asked about Myrtle Beach (Sandy?) and I was just chiming in.

Muddling - OOOPS sorry about that 'teaser' then! I mad a gluten free rhubarb crisp today and it was absolutely delicious! 3 childhood girlfriends drove up from the big city a couple of hours away and we enjoyed tea and crisp outside in the sun, so spirit raising,- laughing and sharing memories from long ago...
NM - Silly Sadie is certainly smart!! She keeps you on your toes for sure...
Chi - we are having spaghetti tomorrow night, Thirsty Thursday, as our 4 year old grandson is spending the day and loves my sauce - he was asking for it for breakfast Monday morning...green goddess salad would be a nice touch.
Hi there Jazzy, hope you are enjoying your break and not working too hard! Hello misty, mema, illi, goldie and cami - where are the kitties?! Stay well everyone Cheers!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday, and, for me, Payday! I am really liking this getting paid every week thing. Getting up to some more rain this ayem. Sigh. Sometimes I wish I could curl up and go back to sleep until the rain stops, the way Sadie does. Ah, the dog's life!
Morning Muddling!
Janky--Yup, Miss Sadie has me very well trained!

Mornin ladies, I didn't realize I missed some posts.
Going away sounds so good and boring sounds good too, means nothing is happening and we don't need crazzy things happening..
Misty u r a stalker and a troll, be proud.
Janky YAY it's over and good news. And the Drs. should be happy u r all pooped out.
Sandy u really even make leftovers sound yummy and I don't like fish.
Kim ur DOTD'S are actually getting better and better, looking so good. What can I say about Sadie. but U FORGOT TO FEED HER??? Oh I don't blame her, but again I LOL when she pulls her antics.
Oh I've been putting in my time to learn this new system. It even has sq. feet, a picture and how much the house is worth. Why I haven't a clue, But I still don't know what I'm doing and do it anyway. And then I had my gift card and shopping with WISH I put loads of things in my bag, then start weeding out cuz it's crazy, I guess u can call it my gardening. Then I go to another site. But I do buy what I need first from Walgreens. Then go crazy, the natural steps in shopping.
Wow 2 cups os coffee and I can go back to sleep and I haven't even taken my morphine yet. Of course this house is an annex to the hospital Leslie has a cast thing on her leg and Marty has severe Vertigo But this weekend Joey's going Downtown with a couple of friends and one set of parents to Navy Pier etc. staying there til Sunday. Good thing that kid saves his money for some real fun stuff.. He'll be out of school on Monday, then it's my turn.
Have a great Friday eve.

OH question ladies, I know someone will have n answer. OK u know about my SIL and now no one kows what to do with her. They lived in a 2 bedroom in a retirement type of home, but my brother took care of her. But now the home insisted she be evaluated to see where to place her but here diagnosis is not just dementia she's also psychotic and a danger to other people not so much to herself. Well the assisted living place doesn't want her there, where can she go from here.??? Any help would be appreciated my niece and nephews really don't have a clue.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! The weather here has finally turned, we're expecting an ENTIRE WEEKEND of good weather!Yeah! The gardens are doing really well. Need to spend some time and money on some new plots. I have got to get out and get moving more. Some of us cousins are planning a trip to Australia in 2022, and one of the planned activities is the Sydney Harbor Bridge tour.Actually, there are 2 tours, the full bridge and the half bridge. The full bridgetour is3 1/2 hours, 1,332 steps, 111 flights of stairs. The half bridge tour is 1 1/2 hours, 556 steps, 47 flights of stairs. I have committed to doing the half bridge, keeping the option open to do the full bridge. So, bad knees need stairs work, and fear of heights needs psychological work, and overall out of shape-ness needs serious work! But keep it hush, I haven't told Sadie yet. Got to find a really good doggy vacay resort for her. Gots plenty of time for research!
Morning, Cammy-Cat!Yeah, Iknow, I was a very bad Doggy Momma. My morning routine is so ingrained that I have a hard time when I have to change it. And it's ok, she took a couple cans of tuna off the pantry counter and ate those while I was at work. So she can feed herself if she wants! It is so easy to go crazy on that Wish site, isn't it? I love poking through there, almost as much as I like poking through yard sales and "antique" stores! Your poor household, so many hurting people!Glad Joey has a fun weekend planned.Oh, dear, what a situation your SIL is in. And the niece and nephews.Have one of them get in touch with the Assisted living place, find out if there is a social worker on staff. That person would be the best help.If the facility does not have a social worker, have them contact your SIL primary medical care provider's office, explain the situation, and ask for appropriate referrals and an evaluation to see if SIL is mentally capable of taking care of herself. Then they should contact their state's Department of Human Services for help. If they can't figure out how to contact the Dept. of Human Services (it may not have that exact name, but something similar), they can contact their state's organization for the protection of elders. The doctor's office can give them the phone number/e-mail address.IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE NIECE AND NEPHEW MAKE IT CLEAR THAT YOUR SIL CANNOT MOVE IN WITH THEM DUE TO THEIR FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THEIR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND NEIGHBORS.Once one of them even hints at letting SIL move in, the system will pretty much stop moving forward, cuz that's the cheapest solution for the state but it will leave them with a HUGE problem and possibly being held responsible for SIL's actions. The Assisted Living facility can't put her out onto the street, and when they realize that other family won't take her in they will access the system themselves. If her doc says she can make her own decisions, then I recommend your niece and nephew step back and let her do just that. If she is judged mentally incompetent, someone will be appointed her guardian and that person can then make the decisions and get her appropriately placed, with or without her consent. Tell your niece and nephew I am praying for them.
