ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I wish I was the one on the right!

I'm another one who refuses to give up living life for bc, so can I join in here?  I've gone back to having a glass of wine with dinner when I go out, and enjoying the Kahlua I make, andt trying other drinks as well.  I once had a drink called a "golden cadillac"--it had Oorange juice in it but I don't know what else.  Anyone have the recipe for this one?

Welcome "NativeMainer"! I used to drink Golden Cadillacs....many many years ago. I remember it having ice cream and galliano...but I could be wrong about that! Guess we could google it. SInce you make Kahlua, have you tried a "tootsie roll"? Just Kahlua and OJ....and it REALLY tastes like a tootsie roll. Nice having you join us! Have Pants pour you a nice glass of wine.....

WHOA Dee, what a picture! I can't claim to be one of them...maybe a few years ago I could've posed for that....but definately NOT now!!! Gives new meaning to our toast....Okole Maluna!

    So....Bottoms Up!

HunkyD--your "art" work is fabulous!  I'm still laughing!

Kathy--I've never tried a tootsie roll, certianly going to next time I'm out with freinds!  I use 2 Kahlua recipes depending on how soon I need the stuff to be ready:

Ready Immediately Recipe (second best recipe):

Boil 4 ups of water and 3 cups of sugar for 10 mnutes.  Add 1/4 cup freeze dried coffee OR 1/2 cup expresso or VERY strong coffee, boil another 10 minutes. Cool to room temperature, add 2 ounces vanilla extract and a fifth of vodka.  Bottle, ready to drink immediately.

Best Recipe-needs to sit for 6 months

Boil 4 cups water and 3 cups sugar for 10 minutes.  Add 1/4 cup freeze dried coffee OR 1/2 cup expresso or VERY strong coffee, boil another 10 minutes. Cool to room temperature.  Pour into bottles, than add 1 lightly scored vanilla bean to each full bottle.  Let set for at least 6 months.

Both recipes will fill two 750 ml bottles with some left over that I usually put in the now empty vodka bottle.  If you have any coconut milk, add a quarter cup to the mix after the second boiling but while the mix is still hot and stir until it dissolves completely.  I sometimes use French Vanilla or Hazelnut coffee for variation.

NativeMainer, thanks for sharing your Kahlua recipes with us! I have a recipe that is from eons ago, so I'm sure yours are prob better. Does it matter what type of vodka you use? Get the good stuff or rot-gut stuff??? Cause some vodkas are cheeeeeeeeep. Or maybe just a middle-of-the road vodka. Yummmmm, yummmmmmmm. I think DH is making his Irish Coffe for me and my mom tomorrow, and I forget if he adds Kahula or not....seems like he puts EVERYTHING in it, and then the drizzle of creme de menthe over the whipped cream....sooooo good and soooooo potent! When I break down and have a second one, I am useless for the day! LOL.

Happy Saturday everyone. Junie,I don't know where everyone was last night.....sure was desolate at the HTL. BUT on a upside, did you notice we had Pants and Jocks all to ourselves???? Too quiet though for me, we need to have a PARTAY today....maybe a POOL PARTAY!!! Everyone, lets get those bums covered up, and party hearty!!!! Last one in the pool........

    Cheers to Wicked Coffees,

    Kathy

Kath--for the immediate use recipe I use a middle-of-the-road vodka.  For the 6 month recipe I use the cheapest vodka I can find that comes in a glass bottle. This recipe ages better in a glass bottle than in a plastic one for some reason.  The freeze dried coffee or expresso is more important--make sure to use a brand you like the taste of -- with that and boiling for the full 10 minutes each time it almost doesn't matter what kind of vodka you use.

I've had these recipes for a very, very long time--since the 80's.  I don't imagine that my recipes are any better than any other, every recipe has it's fans!  It's all a matter of personal taste in the end.  I actually found a forgottten bottle after moving in the my house--it was 12 years old and did that one taste GOOD!!!!

I'm all for a pool party, but it better be a hot-tub pool party--50 degrees and rainy is a bit cold for me!  Then again, it IS November in Maine. . . . And I will go in the water for an Irish Coffee--YUM!

OK, I did a little research--the drink I was remembering is an Orange Cadillac, not a Golden Cadillac

Orange Cadillac:  1/4 ounce galliano, 1/4 ounce White Creme de Cacao, 1 ounce cream, 2 ounces orange juice, blend with ice, strain

I've found 2 recipes for Golden Cadillac, one  with cream and one with ice cream:

2 ounces cream, 1/2 ounce white creme de cacao, 1/2 ounce galliano OR

1 scoop ice cream instead of cream, rest is the same.  My little Classic Cocktails book mentions that both are "not for dieters"      Like I care. . .

Gawd, you ladies are SO funny! :)

I didn't get 'any' in Manchester, my friend couldn't come (no pun intended). I drank a nice Bordeaux and worked on my December work schedule. It will only be perfect when I get rid of the x-mas trip!

I had last night some Glenlivet 12 year, the stuff we carry on the airplane so not expensive, and I actually liked it! Maybe I don't need to buy the more expensive stuff anymore?

I'm off to Rome tomorrow, had to pick-up an extra trip for some extra money! My Scottich friend will meet me there and he's promised me a good meal and a good time! ;)

I'll be off for 5 days after Rome - woo hoo! I'm considering shopping on Black Friday, mostly for electronic things but may not depending on what is offered out there. Maybe I'll just drink all weekend long! I'm still looking for my fave winter drink, the Vanille Royale. Haven't seen it since last winter so maybe it's only imported around the holiday's? Guess I'll have to stock-up when I do find it!

    Cheers!

    Hi Ladies!

Hope everyone is well. Jaybird - wishing you safe (and fun) travels!!  HD and Lori - um, nice chaps! Kathy - those Irish coffees sound really good, wish I still drank coffee!  Dee - nice to see you too! And welcome to all the newbies - wish I could hang out longer & meet everyone.

It's been a pretty emotional weekend around these parts. We lost Stephanie Spielman, an 11 year survivor, hometown hero, and Champion of the fight against bc,  She is survived by her husband Chris and their four children.

I had a post-surgery appt with my ps - drains came out yesterday (9 days total), which was unexpected and a huge relief. Healing pretty well, except today I feel like every time I reach for something, the pec muscle kind of "cramps down", also kind of takes my breath away - is this normal? And is it going to be this way with every fill? Will I ever be able to regain some normal posture, instead of being hunched over? Better ask the doc to stock me up on muscle relaxers or pain meds or something, or I'll be useless, often.  Thanks for info from anyone who's had TE's.

In the meantime, I think I'll have a nice glass of cabernet, Barkeep. I'm not ready to get back on my pool raft quite yet..  and I'd like to offer a toast to Stephanie (through tears) - a truly lovely, dignified, inspiring woman who is gone too soon.

E, Raising my glass to Stephanie....didn't know her, but sounds like she was an amazing woman, and I hate that this disease claimed another. Very sad for her family also. Glad you got your drains out...those are the worst things to deal with! Yeah, you will be quite sore for awhile...it will get much better though in time. The muscles really need to heal. I know some gals did exercizes which I should have done....can't reach up my back, etc....so it is good I think to move your arms more, but your dr may want you to wait longer till you do that. Just be patient, your body has been through a lot, and needs time to heal totally. I still can't get over having half my boobs numb....soooooo strange, but I guess that is the way it will be, for me!

jaybird, your post cracked me up! Your guy friend didn't "come"....yeah, I think that pun WAS intended...j/k! Hope your Scottish friend can give you a good time in Rome! Your travels are soooo interesting!!! I plan to be out on BF also...my DD and I used to camp out around 1 am or so...till the best stores opened, and so we would get the good electronic deals. Then she married, had kids, and moved away, but THIS YEAR they will be here with us, so she and I plan on doing that again. It was such a fun, bonding experience....now that I'm older, hope I can still do that...it DOES get cold!!!

I FORGOT I had wanted to go out to hear a friend play celtic music tonight....now I don't feel like going out......maybe the Tattie Tenders can get together a group and serenade us! I think we can come as we are to the HTL...so I'll join whoever feels like showing up!

    Ciao,

    kathy

Erika, nice to see you back and recovering so well.  I just watched about a 15 minute video about your Buckeye sister Stephanie Spielman...brought tears to my eyes which is not hard to do now.  She was such a powerful and inspirational woman.  Makes me aware of how selfish I am feeling sorry for myself with this crappy disease.  The family raised over 6 million dollars.  What a gift for cancer research at James.  As far as the tissue expanders go, you are going through the recovery from mastectomy as well as feeling the pressure of expansion.  Some women I think it is easy, and others really have painfull sensitiviy to the fills.  Please communicate with your PS as the muscle relaxers, and pain medication can be a godsend after the fills.  So many women just ride the tide and think it all shouldn't hurt....but it does cause discomfort with many.  Dee might give you more insight on it than myself..  I hated every fill...the more I got..the more discomfort.  Glad you are back at the lounge....cheers....XXOO HunkyD

LOL--Lori--no offense taken.   To clarify for the others on this thread, I posted a rousing cheer in support of this season's "villain" on the who wants to watch Survivor thread.   It would have been too funny if Lori had posted there, but she's right--might have stirred up a ruckus!

Glad to see E back.   Sad about your friend.   I'll make a toast to her, also.   NativeM--thanks for sharing the recipe--sounds like even I could make it!!!   Jaybird, Jaybird--you make my head spin with all your comings and goings (ok, maybe not so much the comings..wink, wink)

Not staying at the HTL tonight--been under the weather today.  Don't know if it was flu shot, something I ate or a new med from dr, but something has turned me inside out today and I feel like crap!!!

later gators!!!   big hugggsssss to all!!!!

Evening Ladies and welcome back Ms Mainer! And don't worry about it being cold out at the pool. Here at the HTL, the weather is ALWAYS perfect. But if you don't want to be outside, we have an indoor pool too! Have you had the tour and met the Tattie Tenders?

Girls.....looks like she might be stickin 'round! She's even offerin up recipes. I think she's a keeper!

Erika.........Thank you sweetheart for checking in and letting us know how you are doing. You bring sad news about Stephanie, a person I did not know, but send prayers out to her DH, 4 children and the rest of her family....God Bless. Take care of yourself and check in when you can. I'll send Jocks over with a percotini for you. Gentle Hugs!

Jaybird, I just need to make a calendar of your travels and when you're home! I just can't keep track. When in Rome....do the Romans.....I mean ....do as the Romans....j/k...lol. Will you be able to be home at Xmas w/Avery?

Kathy, I hope you and DD can do some more bonding and make more memories from BF shopping. Are ya's planning on the camping out part of it? Oh....and don't worry about getting me anything......I'm all set.

HD, are you a cry baby? Well, let me tell you.....I AM...BIG TIME! Sometimes it even makes me mad...lol! I can cry at some of the silliest things.

Junie, you need to come over to my house. Sun is almost always shining and it hardly ever rains.

    Dee.....those sniffles gone yet?

I would like my Irish Coffee with some Bailey's please, instead of Kahlua (not much of a chocolate lover). I hope everyone is enjoying their week-end.

Raising my glass in honor of Stephanie...........Lori

Hello and good morning to all at the HTL,

It's very cold here in Buckeye land today. Well OSU beat Michigan yesterday so everyone is happy here! I really don't watch to many sports but gotta watch the rivalry and bowl games. OSU is Rose Bowl bound. GO BUCKS! Erika already mentioned that Stephanie Spielman passed away, she was married to an OSU football player. RIP Stephanie. Gosh Jaybird, I really wish I could stow away in your luggage for one of your fabulous trips. I have always wanted to do some traveling. Be safe and have fun with your Scotchman..Scotch??  LOL Erika I really have no encouraging advise to you about the dreaded TE's other than one day you'll get them out. I am sooo tight and sore right now that I am afraid to get my last fill tomorrow. I feel like a football linebacker walking around with these darn things! I think you can start your stretching now since you have your drains out, (that was such a relief!) just check with the PS and get some muscle relaxers and plenty of pain meds to keep on hand. I am here anytime you want a bitch session about the TE's or well anything really :) Sniffles are almost gone so that's a plus but I need a horn to help me hear, my ears are plugged up! As my granny used to say, it's either an ass or an elbow..haha  I'll have a nice hot tattie please and maybe I will try one of those delicious sounding Kahlua drinks you all are talking about.

    Heres to all my friends:

My friends are the best friends Loyal, willing and able. Now let's get to drinking! All glasses off the table!

    ChEARS!!!!!

    OXOXO

Erika, I was one of those who had a miserable time with 60cc fills.  Once I dropped down to 45cc I was much more comfortable.  Yes my pects cramped like a heart attack.  They added valium to my pain meds, but that didn't help.  It's amazing what a difference 15ccs made.  I had my exchange surgery over a year ago, and my foobs still lurch when I open jars or lift heavy objects.  It has become less disconcerting over time.  Hang in there.  You, too, Dee.  The implants are so much better than the TEs.

Jaybird, doing a Scotsman in Rome?  NICE.

Lori, how about this weather, eh?  Sorry Junie.

    HD, what a wardrobe malfunction.

Enjoy what's left of your weekend, Ladies.

ACK, tomorrow is Monday....all you gals not working, I am very envious.  I will have a very busy week, I do have Thanksgiving day off....but have to work Friday.  Can't afford to use any vacation days anymore...they are reserved for a different vacation.  Kathy, hope you had fun with your mom today.  Enjoy her till she has to leave this week.  I got let off the painting project today...was paying bills and doing easier chores...plus, the hard part was done...two coats of primer yesterday.  Well, I think I also was prime last night after drinking beer while painting....LOL.  I am here and have Jocks and Pants at my beck and call.  I love that.  Arms aren't as sore today either.  I just am having some leftovers and plan on getting to sleep early.  We had some snow today....YUK...I am not ready for it, but it means I will have to get up earlier tomorrow as the roads will be black ice in the morning, and even though I often feel as mean as Tanya Harding driving to work..it just takes me longer.  I just want the strength to get to Thursday.  Jaybird...once again I can't keep up with your travels and your international dabbles in men!...lol.  I hope you have a great time....you deserve.  (hugs to Avery also)!    CAZ, I think you said you were going to cabin this week, if that is the case...I hope you have a wonderful time!   I know Lori is avoiding the oven, and headed out for Thanksgiving dinner.  Erika..hope you are doing well.  Dee....hope you are also doing well and counting down the days with Kitty until your exchange.  Donna, you have been present here so much lately I don't even know what to say.  NativeMaine...your recipes sound yummy.  I remember in the old days when we saved our empty Grolsch Beer bottles and made our Kaluah and put it in those.  Brought back memories.  Junie, hope you are felling well....you kind of are my "guiding light"!  I don't watch your Survivor, or Greatest Rrace tv shows, but have my own race to the fridge after work!  LOL.  Who have I forgot?   I am sure I forgot someone....I am not meaning too because I think of you all so often!  Hope everyone has a Monday worth livin' for.  Love ya all...HunkyD

(whispers to CAZ) Yeah the weather has been great. Sunny and 70 up here.

Hope everyone is doing well. HD, you be carefull going to work. You were right about me not turning the oven on Thursday, but we will be home. Having Bar B-Que ribs though instead of turkey. But I must say "I am so thankful for my friendship with each and every one of you" THANK YOU.

I am not one of the lucky ones that doesn't have to work, but I am lucky that work is just outside the front door and about a 50 yard walk!

Ditto Kathy, what HD said about mom.

Well, guess I'll see ya all at Pau Hana........Lori

    Hi Drinkin' Buds~

Getting ready to go to PT.  It's supposed to stand for "Personal Touch", I call it "Personal Torture".  It's a Jazzercise thing.  The pounds have been sneaking up on me the last few months....surely it can't be related to all the eating and drinking lol.

E - so sorry to hear about your friend.  I will raise a toast to her.  Always so hard to lose a "sister" and especially one who is a good friend.

J - hope Scotish friend "comes through" for you  Cool  I'm a "new" scotch drinker.  Have some Glenlivet 12 in the licka cabinet.  I know you're a JW Blue fan - have you tried JW Gold?  It's good!!!

Lori - if we all come to your house, it's not going to be 10 degrees is it?

Okay - gotta go get tortured now.

    Cheers,

    Donna
