Good Morning, Loungettes! It looks like yesterday's long post didn't post. I must have missed hitting a button. The short version--I was admin on call and it was a crazy Saturday. My cousin's husband who has not been doing well took a turn for the worse after a series of medical issues that had to be dealt with before getting a procedure done to get multiple biopsies. He was in ICU, on a breathing machine. He was unresponsive after crashing when they tried to wean him off the breathing machine. I heard from my cousin late Saturday that Mark had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was taken off life support and passed away yesterday afternoon. My cousin is devastated. I wish I could go out there to be with her. I'm grateful she has so many close friends there that are taking care of her.
Miriandra--sounds like your boss is a real piece of work, but about to get his comeuppance!
Chi--bone spurs sure can create problems.
Reader--yup, the pups do keep me sane!
Goldie--sorry about not getting the house. I've heard that ravens and crows are intelligent birds that can recognize people. Hoping the no pain condition continues. I've heard the renal diet is one of the hardest to follow. Oh, good, now I see that you are back on a regular diet! Much better!
Good Morning, to everyone!

NM- I am sorry about your cousin's husbands passing. I know they went on the cruise with you and he was not well on the trip and after. How awful to find out about the late Stage cancer dx and a sudden passing. I am sure your cousin is bereft and know having you as someone who cares will help during this time of loss and change.

NM, Condolences on your cousin losing her DH. I think pancreatic cancer is the hardest to treat and rarely cured. I'm sure it was quite a shock when he passed unexpectedly.
Goldie, Thank heavens you're back on a normal diet. I couldn't think of anything allowed. Certainly I eat every single thing on the no no list.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! Nothing particularly exciting going on except a nice thunderstorm yesterday afternoon. Some of us in the office stood in the doorway to watch and listen until it started raining really hard. It didn't last very long but it was fun to watch.
Thank you for your condolences. Laura has pointed out that, while the suddenness of it all is hard, it also means Mark wasn't ill for very long and didn't go through extended discomfort and suffering.
The thunderbumper brought a nice drop in temps and the puppers are loving it. They are back to playing pounce and wrestle all evening and even on the bed at night before settling down for sleep. I'm getting some interesting bruises from the pouncy paws landing on me!
Big Dog Cocktail
- 1 oz. Kahlua® coffee liqueur
- 1.5 oz. vodka
- 4 oz. milk
- 1 splash Pepsi®
Pour Kahlua and vodka over ice in glass. Fill remainder of glass with milk, then top with Pepsi. Stir.

NM, I'm very sorry for the loss of Laura's DH. I too thought the same thing about him going quickly, and that there wasn't alot of suffering, which comes with pancreatic cancer. I think the same thing of my own DH, he would not have suffered with pain, but other stuff. And when you know there is no hope and no getting better. None the less, it still hurts, and I'm sure she knows you would be there if you could. Interesting ingredients in that DOTD!
YES, ravens are VERY smart.
I made it home! My gosh did I sleep good, things cooled off, and my own bed. I can't stop thinking about that renal diet, how can so many good things be so bad for our kidneys??? I ran over to the cancer center, which was only 1/2 mile from the hospital, to thank the gal that facilitated getting me set up in the hospital to get my kidneys taken care of. Of course I start crying, give her a hug, she starts crying, another one of the nurses, she wants a hug and she starts crying…..LOL! I was just so thankful. My kidneys would still be deteriorating, as I didn't have appt. with urologist until another 2+ weeks, and that was just to discuss what will be done! Praying my kidneys have been saved!
I booked another trip to MI., Aug.30 - Sept 19. More house hunting and my DD will be there. My original plan was to take about 5 days during this time and head to Maine so I could visit/meet NM, but I can't do that now. A house is of the utmost importance right now.
1 -
goldie, then what CAN you eat??? Wow, I'm not sure how I would handle that. Can you have rice and pasta?

Goldie, I'm glad you had a good hospital experience, such as these things go. Sending good luck for finding a house you like in MI. My step-daughter lives in Michigan.
Renal diets are restrictive; since the internet, it is much easier to find "acceptable" foods instead of depending on handouts that dietitians xeroxed and never updated. You can even find a menu idea out there that helps make planning a little easier.
NM, so sorry for the death in the family. Never easy even when expected.
Sandy, hopeful you do not have ONJ and an easy fix.
We just got home from beach fishing. Too early in the season but being out there is magical. Needless to say, no fish today. We may start hitting mid 70s this week. New mantra: just get through August, just get through August…
Hope all dealing with the swelter are managing OK.

Lori, so glad you can go back on a normal healthy diet and try to keep your weight up. Condolences on your cousin's DH, Kim—only upside was that he was already no longer conscious when the Stage IV pancreatic cancer was dx'ed; otherwise he'd have had a long and agonizing downhill slide. (Speaking of pancreatic, anyone hear from "Shorfi," who received her dx in 2017)?
Hoping if it's ONJ it's still stage 0, which is treatable by antiseptic mouthwash and surveillance. Already instinctively not chewing anything sharp or hard & crunchy on that side. It is what it is. Best case scenario is that it's not ONJ at all, but an exostosis (spur on the cheek side of the gum) that can be "reduced" to the point it no longer irritates the gum. I've had that exostosis for decades, and my DDS was never concerned about it (nor were my orthodontist, endodontist, nor periodontist). Maybe I can even resume Prolia—right now my endocrinologist says to just get at least 1200mg Ca and >1000 IU of D3, and walk as much as I can. When all settles down I will join a "Buff Bones" Pilates class (pricy and not insured, alas).
Yesterday I got a pkg. ea. of Anticonquista's "Medio" & "Oscuro" (medium & dark roast) Guatemala Catimor beans, roasted last Friday. A pourover cup of coffee that fresh tastes insanely wonderful. DODT last night at L. Woods (with Caesar salad & roast chicken) was 2021 La Vielle Ferme dry rosé (Vin de Pays d'Oc). Tonight, whatever goes with what I throw together (or just a can of Bubly). Going to pick up my weekly fish order, and when I return may pull a shot of espresso (from the Oscuro and last week's Canela—light roast—beans) or make a breve cappuccino or cortado.

Sunshine, I was only on that diet for 2 days whilst in the hospital. I think rice was ok, not pasta. But I don't have to do it, so not going to worry about it and continue to eat the foods I love!
Wally, with my ex and kids, we always fished. My son still does and will do so with his dad. My favorite is Blue Gill, oh yum. I'm sure I will be doing some fishing if I ever get a house! Where in MI is your SDD?
Sandy, never heard of Shori. Good luck with your mouth issues, and may it be something simple!

Shorfi was on mostly the Lumpectomy Lounge and CrazyTown threads. I will look her up.

Shorfi's (Sheri's) last post (according to the Search bar) was April 2, 2017. She'd been preparing for gallbladder surgery when in the course of preparatory tests her doctors discovered a very early pancreatic adenocarcinoma. It was asymptomatic—her pain was due to the gallbladder, and the pancreatic tumor was an "incidentaloma." Her gallbladder surgery had to be postponed to further evaluate her pancreas. Her last post was on the eve of the rescheduled gallbladder removal. It contained no clues that it would be her final post.
And the other person I was wondering about was duckyb1—who began posting in 2016 at 88. Search said she was last seen on BCO in April of this year—which would make her 95 right now.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! We've gone from 80s and 90s to 40s this ayem, with one place reporting an ayem temp of 35 degrees! Back and forth we go, no happy medium. Craziness. It does make the puppers more energetic, and watching them wrestle and play is truly funny at times. Mom thinks she's found the place she wants to move to, and is working on getting an appointment for a tour. It is a nice place, but with a waiting list of 125 people it's going to take a while for an apartment to open up. Time will tell, I guess.
Goldie--glad you made it home, there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed! I do hope your kidneys are on the road to recovery now. And I hope the urologist recognizes how detrimental all the delays have been. Good luck with the house hunting.
Sunshine--good question, the renal diet is one of the most restrictive diets going.
Wally--beach fishing sounds like fun, I've never tried that. Any excuse to be on the beach is a good one in my mind.
Chi--thank you for the condolences. I am glad he was spared the suffering that would have come with chemo and the inevitable decline as the disease progressed. The coffee beans sound like they make wonderful coffee, especially being so fresh!

Oh wow NM, that is a pretty long wait list. I would imagine a year or better to get in? I wonder if they could give her an estimate? You have been robbed of summer my friend!
Well, I'm back on the house hunt! I'll take y'all with me if you like? Here are 2 I found yesterday. One is in Pontiac, which can be a sketchy neighborhood. Much like Laughlin is a mini Las Vegas, Pontiac is like a mini Detroit. But there are nice areas as well. Both fit the bill, with attach gargage, ranch, finished basement and nice yards. The one would need some shrubs removed in the back and it looks like some carpet might need to be replaced, no big deal on either of those.

Both houses are attractive in the photos.
What a temperature swing, NM!
Hard to believe it is already August.

The first house looks too big for me to want to clean. The 2nd one is more my speed. They are both nice.
0 -
Lori, you might want to PM pontiacpeggy, who used to live there before moving to Spokane. You're right—not all of Pontiac is sketchy.
0 -
Wren, lol at too big to clean!
Sandy, I grew up in MI and actually lived in Pontiac for a few years, back in the 80's, but thanks!

Goldie, DH's daughter lives in Grand Rapids or around that area. We visited a lot when we lived in WI. It is a nice area she is in.

WallyCat, my brothers' in-laws are in Grand Rapid, just a couple hours from him.
I guess I have the wrong "bar" in my shower!

I'm here! My drinks today were coffee, iced tea and water. Been a slow day, low energy. DH did most of the move- related work today and I'm tired watching.
I'm sure others will chime in but hope your day was a good one!

I have scans on Monday and for the first time I'm really nervous. Pocket duty appreciated.
1 -
I’m here too. DOTD was red wine with some dark chocolate after dinner.

Set my alarm for Monday to jump into your pocket on time, wren!
I'm here—was just too busy to post. Thursday I went to the oral-maxillofacial surgeon and was relieved to learn I don't have ONJ—just a healing gum lesion from a sharp hard chunk of bacon impaling itself on my gum, and a couple of exostoses (bone spurs), harmless & congenital. So we went out to dinner, with my DOTD being "Flor" brand Italian sparkling rosé. (Not strictly a prosecco, as it's not from the Veneto; and the label didn't say "metodo classico" either so it's likely bulk process tank-fermented). Friday's DOTD was 2021 Caymus (Napa) Conundrum white blend. (Chard., Sauv. Blanc, Semillon, & Viognier). For today's block party brunch I'm bringing a bottle of Mumm Napa "Santana" sparkler (Methode Champenoise). Post-theater (Tommy) dinner's wine will depend on what we eat. Couldn't get a pre-theater res., and IIRC, the "champagne" in the Goodman Theater's lobby bar is dreadful swill (akin to Cook's or Andre).

Reader, you're moving? LOL @ tired from watching!
Wren scanxiety, it's for real! I think we all get anxious during those times. I just try not to think about it and tell myself they don't change anything. What scans are you having? And I hope you don't have to wait too long for results. In your pocket for sure.
Sandy, good news on your mouth!
Been awake since 2:30am, finally got up at 3:30, was don't fighting trying to go back to sleep...ugh! Going into town today, one of the local farms has their sweet corn ready, I want to get a couple dozen to freeze. Also see if I can find some locally grown tomatoes, since mine produced SQUAT. My whole garden was a big fail this year.
DOTD: Insomniac

2/3 oz Coffee liqueur
2/3 oz Hazelnut liqueur

For the first time this summer I may not buy any Anticonquista coffee beans, as I still have over a week's worth. Might buy a small bottle of cold brew for Bob to take to work on a hot morning. No peppers either (maybe a poblano), because my HK promises to bring a few of the overflow from her bell pepper crop. The only grocery veg I bought yesterday was a bag of triple-washed haricots verts. Have some still to use up, as well as half a bunch of broccolini, summer squash, eggplant, celery & greens galore; not to mention berries, peaches, tart cherries and apricots. Maybe a donut peach and an ear of sweet corn for Bob. Also depends on what leftovers we bring home from tonight's post-theater dinner.

Good morning, ladies!
chisandy, congrats on the no ONJ. You must be so relieved. I'm totally jealous of your produce finds. They sound wonderful! Way to rub it in! LOL
Wren, thinking of you with your upcoming scans. Scanxiety is a beast. And to those (not here, of course!) who think the scanxiety is being in the actual machines, that's only 1% of it. Or, at least it is for me. I can fall asleep during the scans, but waiting for the results is the killer. To those who have the added burden of fear of the actual machines, you have my sincerest sympathies.
Not to brag, or anything, but I SLEPT last night and coughed only a couple of times! I was so tired last night that I went to bed at 8:30 (unheard of for me) and slept until about 3:30 am. Awake until around 5 am, then slept til around 7:45. Am feeling good this am. I've been getting so desperate for sleep that I was considering going back to wine before bedtime, but I really didn't want to do that. Don't get me wrong - I LOVED my nightly glass (or two) of wine.
Oh, and I ate almost 1200 calories yesterday and my weight was up a pound from yesterday. That's the first "up" number in several months. I know I can't gain a pound of fat overnight, but it was still nice not to see another "down" number. I never thought I'd be one of those people complaining about weight LOSS, but this was getting ridiculous.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Carol

Fortunately the reports from the scans show up on my chart fairly soon. I'm having CT of chest and abdomen along with full bone scan. I'm going to take a sandwich to eat between the CT and bone scan since I won't have eaten and will be ravenous. At least I'll only need one IV for both exams. I'm going to start pushing water today.

Wren, I've got to the point of taking a beta blocker for "performance anxiety" for some medical crap. I feel like I was so much better at dealing with stuff but then, DH got this horrible dx, and between us, I just didn't want to continue dealing with the heart pounding and yuck. It's not perfect, but it is safer/easier than a xanax or ativan, which is what my breast surgeon suggested 17 years ago. I'll be thinking of you and hope it is all good. I get my DXA scan on Monday. I suspect I know what will show up; a tiny part of me worries an incidental lesion may present. The fear just never goes away.
Goldie, I also had the worst night ever…I think I finally fell asleep after 1am. I hate nights like that. Took a nap this afternoon but I hate that dragging feeling.
We harvested some Japanese turnips from our garden—delicious! I'm trying to find a recipe for the greens. These are nothing like traditional turnips. Our green beans are slowly starting to bloom. Cold nights, which I would much rather have than the green beans, LOL. We hit 66 today. I pinched myself. August and we have not had to run the a/c yet. Our warmup is coming next week but 1/2 of August will be done and I can slide into fall weather.
Sandy, congrats on no ONJ! YUM on your food and wine!!
Sunshine, congrats on good sleep. Funny how important it all as we get older. Glad to hear you're having improvement with the cough.
I purchased some Campari tomatoes to make a caprese salad this week. Without a greenhouse, no way to grow tomatoes out here. DH misses that. He's tried countless times and finally admitted defeat.
