Waking up to snow here in New Mexico this morning
1 -
SNOW!!! I'm jealous!!!!!!!!!!! Where in New Mexico? Enjoy your glorious weather!
0 -
Reader, did you get to try the Cranberry Martini?
Sandy, hope you are feeling better by now.
Miriandra, cheers for the good mammo!
Karen, good luck with general surgeon. Raking/blowing leaves are something I don't have to deal with in AZ! Isn't your DD there?
NM, of course something would go down with dinner! Couldn't you let the turkey sit until the potatoes were done? Sorry about the creepy partner of your aunts. What do you think that was about? And I hope your aunt was ok after being left alone.
Well, I wasn't home but 48 hours and back to the hospital I go! Still here, but being discharged tomorrow (Sunday). Lots of scans, and mainly pain drugs is all that was done. A new spot found on my liver now, so I guess cancer is making it's rounds! They sent someone in to talk to me about hospice, I'm not ready to give up on treatment just yet, especially if it is going to buy me time. I'll hotel it tomorrow night, as I have chemo on Monday. My TG dinner was chicken broth!
2 -
Oh, goldie, I'm sorry you got the hospice suggestion. I don't even know what to say. I don't know what I would do or will do when I get to that point. QOL seems to be the deciding factor. I don't want to live in misery, but I don't want to stop treatment if it will help.
Today, I ate more of my leftover Thanksgiving meal and may finish it off tonight—or I may just toss it. We (my sister and I) did open a bottle of Trader Joe's Coastal Zinfandel. I think there is a bit of Brie left, so maybe I'll have that. Dad and DH went to Rubio's for fish tacos.

Lori,Im so sorry that you are going through this. Hearing hospice is so hard, but wanted to continue treatment to buy more time makes sense. Wish I could do more for you. DD#1 and grand daughter arrive December 6 and leave the 12th. Then we leave a week later to see DD#2.
Cold, cold in Denver today. 12 degrees this morning with a dusting of snow. It got up to 24 for a high. Starting to warm up tomorrow - 40s and 50s for the next 10 days.

Lori, the fact that you feel well enough to want more time tells me that you might not be ready for hospice. But it's not necessarily an immediate end of the line—it's to make you feel as good as you can for as long as you've got. Hugs and comforting thoughts.
Cold here in Chicago—we made it all the way up to 37F, which is the warmest we'll see again till Thursday. Snow showers tomorrow—1-1.5", but nothing shovel-worthy. Salt-able, though.
Didn't go out last night, as Bob was watching football and I had one more Tamiflu left. (Even if I were safe to be in public, no way was I going to brave Black Friday mall crowds & traffic. Today he went to work and it was Small Business Saturday. Ran a few errands, replenished some groceries, and the small business I chose was Botanica CBD in Evanston, because I was running out of CBD capsules (the gummies have sugar, and the tincture stains my retainer). Wanted to go to Noir d'Ebene chocolate shop across the street, but it was closed despite the "Open" sign being lit. Needed to get home to Heidi anyway. (She's doing better, albeit still losing weight).
DOTD was 2023 Georges Duboeuf Beauj. Nouveau. A bit more full-bodied than in years past. Not as "fun" but still enjoyable.

Snow! Looks lovely but have to admit I'm kind of loving the warmth here. More like fall sweater weather.
Lori, I told DH he needs to go out to buy 1 of liquors in the cranberry martini that we don't have. Then cheers! Also my prayers continue to be with you. You are an encouragement to me. 🙏 🍸
Having my brother and wife over to dinner tomorrow night for Pork tenderloin and saurkraut. We had a fairly significant issue occur with DH's family recently from which I'm still reeling. Mean comments. It will be good to feel the love. Thanksgiving was nice but others were also there so not a chance to really decompress.
Sandy so glad you are feeling better. Glad Heidi is at least still eating some. Hugs for that.

Goldie - holding you in my thoughts. It's surely a difficult time. Hope the chemo goes OK Monday and you can trek back home.

Good morning friends:
I hope everyone had a nice holiday with family, friends, or quiet times where ever you spent your time this weekend. It's been a nice five day break for me this week and went north to spend some time in a quaint little town up north for some Jazzy R&R time for a few days. Enjoyed some time doing some pre-holiday shopping then a nice buffet and relaxation time at the historic hotel where I stayed. Been my first bigger time off (meaning longer than a 3 day weekend) since April and oh I needed this.
There was a storm coming on Friday that was dropping down from up north, so I left a bit earlier that morning to head back to Albuquerque to be home before the storm came here. As you saw, I woke up to a bit of snow (about half an inch on the ground) yesterday and the photo was of a dusting of the snow on my red oak that is now coming into full color. The fall colors have been late here this year with the hotter summer and warmer fall, but my red oak always peaks around Thanksgiving. I took a walk later yesterday after some things cleared and will post it here of the snow capped mountains and a touch of the rising full moon. Winter skies here are the best!
Goldie- I am sorry you have been in and out of the hospital so much. I hope they can help you with everything they can for your care and pain management. I agree with Teka the hospice recommendation may be to provide some extra support for you at home given you live alone and are in a rural part of the state. I know people who have gone on hospice for awhile and it's a good benefit to leverage if you want more help during your home time. Just food for thought.
Chi- it sounds like you are finding your way through this bout of the flu. I did not go out for black Friday for anything, but was out yesterday for some weekly errands and a tad of small biz Saturday. I hope you are feeling back to 100% soon.
Karen- sounds like a lovely holiday with your son's family. I have good friend who lives in Denver and heard it's been very cold up there. Hope the rest of your weekend is perfect.
NM- creepy men who stand too close, I hate that. I have a guy at work who does that and I always have to step back from him and he usually clues in quickly. I have said to men that do that "a bit too close" but he just seems to be a creep who also did something not good by leaving the woman at home. I think you are wise to let the family know.
That drink I had was served warm and was delicious! I bought some cider yesterday to make more hot spiced cider at home this season. I have some Captain Jacks spiced rum in my cabinet just for that very reason, and going to make one later today.
Reader- I am sorry about DHs family and the mean comments. I feel the holidays bring out the worst in many people.
Teka- sounds like you had a good Thanksgiving!
Mistyeyes- thinking of you on your cruise and hope the time was wonderful. I used to take cruises on the windjammer line back in my 30s during the holiday season and loved those times.
Got some house things and a family Zoom later today to finish up the weekend. I am heading into the "jury duty" zone shortly and will see what we hear about that the month of December.
I hope everyone has a good wrap up to November and start to December. Away we go!

We had great weather for our road trip to and from Lafayette, Indiana. No problems with the Tundra truck. The family get together was enjoyable. We met brother in law's new woman friend who fit in well with the family. His daughter and grandkids. BIL has been grieving for three years after the death of his wife and, although it was difficult, I'm sure, to see him with a different woman, his daughter and grandkids were glad that he had found a nice person to be his companion.
The dinner was the usual. I appreciated the effort put into preparation but it's almost impossible to serve a sizable group with hot food family style. I watched our host murder two turkeys and resisted telling him he was slicing the breast wrong. He cooked one turkey in a deep fryer out on the patio and our hostess, his wife, cooked one on a smoker, also out on the patio. One turkey would have been sufficient.
It was fun talking to the great nieces and great nephew and his fiance. I find it refreshing to be around young people with their lives ahead of them. One great niece is a graduate of the naval academy and is stationed on a submarine, the Jimmy Carter. The great nephew is an engineer with a big company. His fiance just finished a residency in hospital pharmacy and has a job in a hospital. We were very interested in her work. The youngest great niece is studying to be a nurse at St. Louis University. The missing great niece is in England teaching math. What great kids they are.
Goldie, you are in my thoughts. My mother was in hospice and was kicked out when she kept getting better.
Sandy, sorry to learn you got the flu. I just read about how effective the flu shot is turning out to be.
NM, interesting Thanksgiving for you, not surprisingly.
Greetings and best wishes to everyone else. Our host and hostess aren't drinkers but there was wine on Thanksgiving day, thank goodness.
It's good to be home. Again.

Sunshine, it's not something I was ready to hear, that's for sure. QOL is DEF. important, and right now, I am not miserable, and will continue with treatment.
Karen for some reason, I thought your DD was going to be there for TG....oh well. At least you still have time to "look forward" to that visit, and then your visit to DD2.
Sandy, one does have to quit treatment to be considered for hospice, and I"m not quitting treatment, not yet anyways.
Teka, I'm fine with being here in AZ. The main reason for the move, is so my brother's don't have to deal with trying to sell my place. I would like to at least have that in the works, if not sold by the time I pass.
Reader, I'm with you, and like the warmer weather! I think I recall you saying you needed some vermuth for the cocktail. Sorry about the mean comments. I just don't get why people have to be mean. If you can't say something nice, then keep your damn mouth shut!
Jazzy, sounds like you had a nice little get away. I love that you do that for yourself.
Carole, sounds like you had a wonderful visit. Had a chuckle about your mom getting "kicked out" of hospice.
As I said, I will not be doing hospice. Not at this time anyways. The chemo I am on is a new treatment for me, and I want to give it a chance.
3 -
Goldie, boo on the hospice talk, not sure if I would have been freaked out or pissed off.
Not much going on here. Thanksgiving was just DH and I, plenty of leftovers. It’s been cold and I don’t handle cold very well.

Hello all. The cruise was fun and relaxing. We went from here in Florida to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic then to Grand Turk and back to Florida. Some of my daughters clients were on the boat so we had dinner with them every night, they were all very friendly. We spent the time with them at Amber Cove and then was just us at Grand Turk. The boat was a little rocky, but it was kind of nice at night, it felt like I was being rocked to sleep.
Thanksgiving was fun and all the kids and grandkids were here. Everyone seemed to have fun. The boys all played a group video game and the girls got out the guitar and sang.
NM- I am sorry that your Thanksgiving was kind of rattled, but I do enjoy reading your adventures with your mom. I do have such similar adventures with mine and it does feel good when you realize that other people have them too. You just have to laugh sometimes.
Goldie - I hope that you got out of the hospital and are feeling a bit better. Going in and out of the hospital can get aggravating. I hope you have fun caretakers while there. Is your daughter here?
Carole - hope you had a nice trip to your nieces, its nice to see family
Sunshine, I haven't been reading your blog for a while, I need to go back to it.
Karen- I am glad you got to spend time with your family, it is so nice to have kids come and spend the holiday with you.
Chisandy- I hope you feel better. Hopefully, you will be find yourself at the tail end of this flu and be back to singing soon
Jazzy - I will definitely get some apple cider and spiced rum for a warm drink…when we get a little bit cooler here.
Hi Illimae, Teka, Minus and Wren. I hope you all have a good week ahead.

Wallycat, I like cardinals too. I did not know that they are not west of the Rockies. Very interesting.
0 -
Cardinals are beautiful birds, especially the males. We have them here in Louisiana, also blue birds which are gorgeous when their blue feathers reflect the sunlight. They are bug eaters. DH made quite a few blue bird houses some years ago but the squirrels destroyed most of them.
It's cold here this morning but sunny. My laptop says 40 degrees F.
Happy Monday to all.

Apparently I didn't hit post yesterday, so this is late:
Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Monday Monkey Day! Waking up to rain and wind here. Just lovely weather. At least it's not bitterly cold, just hovering in the 40s. Mom called yesterday, she's lost her car fob. She had it in her hand while she was getting ready to leave for church, then didn't and can't find it. I've got her spare that I'll be taking to her today if she still hasn't found it, but I think the battery is dead, so that will keep her off the road for a couple more days.
Karen--That does sound like a nice T-day dinner. Funny how DH didn't want green bean casserole but was happy to see, and, I presume, eat it! I hope you get an appointment with the surgeon ASAP. Auntie's partner is a piece of work, no one in the family really likes him. I wish he would stop paying so much attention to Mom, it makes me wonder what he's after. He's already got control of Auntie's money, and he knows Mom is comfortable financially. Good for you for not doing work during your week off! It really bothers me how the work expectation has become going above and beyond the job description routinely, and taking on extra has become the norm.
Wally--never heard of black cod, sounds interesting.
Jazzy--great pic!
Morning, Teka!
Goldie--we could have let the turkey sit until the potatoes were done, but then everything else would have been cold and/or overdone. And I wanted to get the meal going so Auntie's partner would leave. I guess Auntie stays home alone fairly regularly. So sorry to hear you landed back in the hospital. They could have at least given you Turkey broth for TG dinner! I'm glad you got the Hospice talk, now you have the information about all your options and can make truly informed decisions. Another option is to request Palliative Care while you are still getting chemo. Palliative Care focuses on managing the side effects of treatments like chemo and other symptoms that negatively impact quality of life, and can work hand-in-hand with active treatment.
Sunshine--fish tacos? I didn't realize that was a thing! I've only thought of tacos as having beef or chicken.
Karen--you must be looking forward to DD#1 and grandaughter coming to visit!
Chi--I can relate to not wanting to brave the Black Friday crowds. I don't do well in big crowds anymore. Too bad the chocolate shop wasn't open, that must have been dissapointing.
Reader--I'm sorry DH's family has been unkind to you. I hope the visit with the brother and wife is much more positive!
Good Morning, Minus!
Jazzy--Auntie's situation is a bit sticky. He's been her partner long enough to qualify as a surrogate medical decision maker in Maine, but I believe her daughter is actually the named medical decision maker. He let her stop taking her alzheimer's medication a year ago without telling anyone, and he is managing her money, so it's getting murky. Good luck with jury duty!
Carole--you had a great time with your family, it's so nice to hear about it.
Jazzy--love the pic!
Goldie--I'm praying the new chemo works really well for you.
Morning, Illi!
Misty--I was expecting the Thanksgiving meal to not come out perfectly, Mom has not been able to pull that off for some time now. At least we didn't wait until 2 peeyem for lunch scheduled for noon, and that has happened! And it's not like there wasn't enough to eat, and plenty of left overs, some of which came home to my fridge and got eaten over the weekend.
The Sweet Potato Cocktail
Ingredients
2 ounces bourbon
1 ounce Sweet Potato Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 tablespoon orange curacao
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
Ice cubes, for chilling, plus large chunk of ice, for serving
Nutmeg, for garnish
Sweet Potato Syrup:
1 sweet potato
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Directions
- Combine the bourbon, Sweet Potato Syrup, curacao and lemon juice in a mixing glass. Add ice and strain into a rocks glass. Place a large chunk of ice into the glass and garnish with a small amount of nutmeg.
Sweet Potato Syrup:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place the sweet potato in a roasting pan, cover with aluminum foil and roast until soft in the center, 1 hour. Remove and discard the skins, and let the leftover juices from the potato cool in the pan. Pour the juices into a glass bowl.
- Combine 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons of the sweet potato, the sugar, 1 tablespoon of the potato roasting liquid, the nutmeg and cloves in a small saucepan. Bring to a slow simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally to keep it from sticking or burning, until the sugar and sweet potatoes have completely dissolved into the syrup. Cool uncovered before pouring into a glass container. Keep refrigerated and use within 3 weeks.

Good morning to all. It's sunny and 44 degrees here at 7:45. Supposed to warm up to 60 degrees. A nice winter day. Morning coffee is tasting good.

Goldie - hoping the chemo wasn't too arduous yesterday. I agree with NM. Do look into palliative care.
NM - it was fun to 'share' your Thanksgiving with Mom vicariously. But the Auntie's partner sounds horrible.
Jazzy - assume "north" means Santa Fe or Taos. Glad you got away & thanks for the pictures.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day! Hard to believe the week is half over already. Even harder to realize that November will be over in a couple more days. Mom found her car fob yesterday, it was in her coat closet on the edge of the shelf where she put it down when she got her coat and bag out and forgot to pick it back up. Of course, she swears she looked there, and it must have been under something and got moved while she was looking the first time so she saw it the second time she looked. Unhuh. I've watched her look for things. She goes to look one place, gets distracted, looks somewhere else, then looks somewhere she's already looked and never actually looks in certain places, just thinks she has because she was thinking about looking there. It's actually kind of amusing when the missing item is a minor thing.
Carole--I just got a gift I bought for myself, a couple of new coffee mugs. One says My Best Quality is my Dog, and one is a Christmas theme, with dogs in place of reindeer pulling a sleigh, really pretty.

Since I’m on my phone I can’t scroll back to see who said what…
Fish tacos are yummy. When I first heard about them I thought they sounded weird and disgusting. Now I love them!
I lost my disabled parking placard. We were visiting my dad and helping him finish packing for his move. I had it in an envelope on the entry table. I think he may have picked it up and tossed it or shredded it or maybe put it with his stuff. Who knows? I got a replacement but I still wonder where it is.
Happy Wednesday everyone!

I had fish tacos one year when we were visiting relatives in Vista, CA. I really liked them and still like them but seldom have them. Restaurants here in Louisiana sometimes offer them on menus but I don't eat out much. When I cook fish, I don't make tacos. The tortillas are extra carbs I don't need. Sigh…
NM, the mugs sound like a perfect cheery present for you. I enjoy your Mom true stories. She seems like such a character. I still miss my mom after 3 plus years.
A cold sunny day here. 37 degrees outside but warm and cozy inside.

Just going to jump in! I'm still home! I have a building inspector coming out today to check the foundation of the house, since it is a modular. He should be here around 11 this morning. I wish I could muster up the energy to go to town! I really need to! When I left the hospital, I noticed the inside of my thigh was sore, and I was beginning to swell. Not sure if it's lymphedema or just fluid building up. I don't like it! Going to look in the cabinets and see if I have anything. Well, maybe I should just call the cancer center, in case it's something I shouldn't have!
3 -
Minus Two- I was up in Las Vegas, New Mexico!
0 -
Goldie, is your leg pain just a dull ache, or is it sharp pain? Is it warm to the touch? Any redness?
Please call the cancer center to ensure you don't have a deep vein thrombosis. With all the stuff we have to deal with as survivors, unilateral swelling in the leg is always concerning.
((((((Sending good vibes your way))))))
1 -
goldie, I agree, get your leg checked. No idea what a DVT looks like, but you don't want to mess with a potential blood clot.

I took a pretty nasty fall this morning. Fell on ice that I did not see. I fell hard enough that two people across the street came to check on me. I was pretty shaken up as I don't remember falling this hard in quite some time. Banged by elbow hard enough to gash the skin wearing a big down coat, fleece and top, my back and hit my head. No bump on my head but my elbow is swollen and a bump of some sort on my tail bone. I called my husband to come pick me up as I was so shaken up. This couple offered to wait with me and even offered to drive me home. Banged up but thankfully I don't think anything is broken.
Surgeon's office called this afternoon and I'm going in Tuesday morning. I'll leave the appointment knowing if I'm having surgery or not. I won't do it until January as I won't do it while DD#1 and granddaughter is here and we leave a week later. I want to feel good for my travels.
Weather is turning cold tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have an all day training and then its the week-end again. Against my better judgement I will have to finish a report that will take me several hours on Sunday. It's taking me forever to write as there is so much to write - so many assessments. I'm trying not to take any work home or work late.
Lori - I agree with the others, get you leg checked out. Hugs
2 -
Karen, sorry about your fall. Glad you didn't break a bone. Hugs.
Hugs for Goldie. Hope you don't have to go back to the hospital for the leg.
1 -
Karen, I'm so sorry about your fall, yikes! I bet you will hurt even more today! I don't blame you for waiting on the surgery, what is it for?
I did call the cancer center, MO prescribed some lasix and potassium.
Inspector engineer came yesterday, was supposed to be here at 11, but didn't arrive until 11:30, which was fine, considering my roads. I was so pissed at him as he was very very chatty. Older gentleman, perhaps 70 ish. What should have only taken him an hour or less, turned into 3 1/2 hours! I was planning on going to town around 1, thinking he would be gone by then. He didn't leave until 4!!! I was about to commit a murder!
Huge storm came thru last night, I thought there was a war going on! No snow and I don't even think much rain, but it sure was loud and short lived.
1 -
Hello ladies, I'm sorry to all those dealing with stuff…health, falls, family issues…stuff.
We had yet another dental appt. for DH and are being referred to yet another dental clinic and possibly an oral surgeon. I still think the mouth sores are not infection but reaction to the pluvicto, but since that treatment is fairly new, not many doctors/dentists are familiar with the less common side effects. My heart just aches for my sweet DH.
I almost never stress eat but the last few nights, I've had ice cream with a pour of fake- bailey's over it. That kirkland "bailey's" is not horrible!
