Lori - the surgery would be to remove my parathyroid - there is an adenoma on one of them (there are 4 small glands) - surgeon will look at all 4 and see what he needs to do. My Nephrologist called my today to see how I was doing and what was happening. I updated him since I saw him on 10/31.

Wally - sorry about your DH.

My elbow drained a lot this morning - I think it was fluid was the swelling. Can't tell if it's still swollen, which might be good - I'll have DH check when he gets home.

I've told a few people that I'm calling in sick when my daughter and granddaughter are here, but the school I'm covering T,W,Th has a big eligibility meeting that we wanted to have T or W. Parents can't attend Tuesday. They are looking at TH or F as one of the people helping can't attend on W. I haven't told them about Th and I don't work F. Oh well, if I can't be there, I can't be there. There will be another Psych who can go over my report. I'm not giving up time with my girls. At one time, I would have worked but no more putting myself second!

It was cold today but no snow - tomorrow and Saturday will also be cold, though not bitter but I'm getting to be a wimp with cold so I really bundle up.

I have a photo of my 3 girls wearing the same outfit. My oldest daughter wore it at 8 months, her little sister at 2 1/2 months and now my granddaughter at 6 1/2 months. DD#2 put the photos in a collage.

My granddaughter is on the left. On the bottom right is her mother, the first to wear the outfit and top right is DD#2. DD#2 wants her sister to save the outfit for her if/when she has a daughter.

I don't post photos of my granddaughter on social media, so this is a real treat for my "sistahs"

Thanks for explaining the surgery Karen. OMG, Osh Kosh be gosh! The outfit still looks brand new and is too cute, just like all the girls! Thanks for posting. When I post pictures of Nora, I go back after a few days and delete them. As for the cold, I am a wimp. I want it 80 in the house! I'm so happy to hear you are putting yourself FIRST!

Teka, not only November, but the whole year!

I think the lasix is starting to work and the swelling and pain not quite as bad. My youngest brother called me yesterday, he is flying out Wednesday, and get this…..staying for a month! I'm so grateful! He will rent a car at the airport and drive up, drop the car off, and either I will go pick him up or have my neighbor grab him on his way home from work. I think my brother will get there about an hour before he gets off work, but he can hit the grocery store and pick up any snacks he wants. He's a huge snacker/grazer!

I love that description, "legacy outfit." Such cute babies. Thanks for sharing, Karen.

That's wonderful that your brother is coming to spend time with you, Goldie.

We're having some rainy weather. Early this morning I heard our house generator kick on. The electricity went off for a time. We're way behind on rain this year so this rain is welcome.

Lori - so nice that your brother will be with you for a month. The company and help I"m sure will be appreciated. Hope you are feeling better.

I was supposed to have a virtual doctor's visit at 4 pm yesterday and no one ever came on - it's what the pcp office calls "overflow" - so about 4:55 I call the office - they were shocked and so apologetic. They told me to call right after 5 and try to get the virtual doctor but I got just the regular on call doctor - she too was apologetic. She said that normally they don't call in Rx for sinus but since the mess up she would call in a Rx - we also talked about my elbow - she said to watch out if it gets warmer or more red. She called in Doxycycline that is good for sinus and skin infections. She only wrote skin laceration in my chart. I managed one dose last night and one this morning - getting ready to take at dinner - and my elbow is not as sore, not as swollen and not as red - and sinuses are better - my teeth and head no longer hurts.

Tomorrow I need to get ready for my daughter and grandaughter, I want to bake cookies and then I need to do work report and other paperwork.

It was damp, gray and cold today but should be nice by middle of week.

    Have a good night.

Good afternoon ladies- hoping that everyone had a good start to December. The weekend has come and gone already, and tomorrow I go in on Day 1 of my jury duty to see if I will be selected for a trial.

Goldie- I am glad your brother is coming to help you. It will be good to have someone there to assist you and help you get stronger and deal with some of the other things on the property. Hope he arrives easily if he is not already there.

Karen- I am sorry to hear about your fall and hope you are doing better. Its so hard to get any type of medical care anymore. One of our major delivery systems here in New Mexico got hit by ransomeware which is affecting everything else. I went to see my doctor on Friday for an early apt and it took most of the morning for just some basic stuff we needed to do. I think we are both getting some blasts of winter now?

Hoping everyone else is doing okay, be back again soon!

I keep ordering more things for my granddaughter on top of the Chanukah toys, books and Chanukah jammies I got her. Borrowed a pack n pay and bought a booster high chair seat with a tray. Today, I ordered a baby hooded towel, 4 more toys, bought a darling warm onesie at Costco for $6, and thinking now I should get a bib. Of course diapers, wipes, lotion and wash! Yes, I'm having too much fun. 3 days!!

My son is coming for dinner when DD#1 and granddaughter arrive and then Shabbat dinner. Wednesday night is the first night of Chanukah.

My elbow is still sore but it is no longer red or seeping fluid so I believe that it was definitely infected. Sinus headache is also better. Tail bone is also still bruised and has a bump.

    Have a good Monday

Jazzy, good luck with jury duty. I hope if you get something, it's something interesting! I've never done it. Actually having decent weather here.

Karen, shop away grandma! I can only imagine how excited you are! Glad you are feeling better!

Well, I am no longer able to shop with a "cart", I have to have a scooter. I am able to walk into the store, if I can't find one in the parking lot. Yesterday, I found one that someone left up near the door, where they were picked up. I was able to park fairly close and grabbed it. Well, darned if the thing didn't die, right in the entry way door of Wal Mart! Grabbed another one, was in it for about 5 minutes and it's low, try to make my way back to the front of the store, so someone can help me. Success! 3rd times a charm. Shopping in Wal Mart with elec. scooter during the holiday season, NOT SO MUCH! It was a LONG day, but I did get lots done, that I didn't get done when that engineer inspector was here.

So far this month, I have appts. on the 8, 12, 13 & 18. Not sure how to juggle those, stay down there for days, or make more trips! Staying means less done around here to pack, which is why my brother is coming. I guess we'll figure it out.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Any exciting Xmas plans for anyone? Nothing for me, my brother will still be here tho.

Karen- I love the pictures with the babies. The outfit looks brand new in all the photos. Always fun to shop for babies. Hope you are feeling well.

Jazzy- Hope your day 1 on being selected on Jury duty was smooth. I only was called once and had to call the night before and it was cancelled. My dad was chosen several times for jury duty when I was a kid. I need to make some of those cider drinks you keep sharing.

Goldie- I am so glad your brother is coming, you can use the help with packing and dealing with everything else. You and your brother can have a quiet Christmas and remanence about Christmas's when you were kids. That is always fun for me and my sisters.

I went to the Christmas Parade on Saturday, my granddaughter was in it. I must be getting old, I have seen so many of the local parades with my kids and now grandchildren, they are nice, but I think they are getting longer. I am ready to go home half way through the parade.

My son and his wife make dinner almost every Sunday for all the family and whoever else shows up. We all try to bring something. Last Sunday they did a late birthday party for me, I think my youngest grandson (6 yrs old) was the most excited. I do not drink a lot, but my son made me a drink, I only had a sip of, it was just whiskey that he burned something over it and the glass filled with smoke and when he gave it to me he took off the top and the smoke just rose out of it. Very dramatic, but I think he is suppose to mix the whiskey with something.

I am busy trying to get my shopping done, (I have 10 grandchildren), while working in house and car repair/maintenance. I think I have ADHD and have to keep telling myself to focus so I get things done. I think back through the years and it was my husband that kept me focused. I just keep plugging along.

I hope everyone has a nice week.

Mistyeyes, I've never had a smoky drink! Sounds to me as if you accomplish a lot. Your son's open house Sunday meal reminds me of all the years when my mother cooked a big Sunday dinner and we all gathered at her house. Now gatherings are rare. We communicate on a text thread with no mention of politics allowed.

Carolehalston - He had a cocktail smoker kit, probably from amazon. I have never seen one before either. Him and his wife started the Sunday dinner thing when he moved close to my daughter and her and her kids started coming to dinner alot. It is really fun when some of the extended family show up. We all bring something and help clean up before we leave.

NM- hope the computer problems get fixed quickly and inexpensively.

I decided to make holiday drinks tonight. I’ve had 4 peppermint White Russians and imm not quite drunk but close. They were tasty though.

Had a neighbor over for baked Brie with apricot preserves and toasted pecans, DH made chicken and dumplings for dinner.

Next up for drinks is a gingerbread latte liquor, maybe in martini form.

DH and I love Greek food so we found a place here in our new locale for Saturday night and it didn't disappoint. I've taken a recent liking to cosmos. Here is theirs for right now:

    WINTERTIDE KOSMO

Tina’s gluten free vodka, Cointreau, white grape juice, orange marmalade, fresh orange & rosemary. Pretty tasty if a bit too sweet for my taste.

I hope Sandy is OK. We are on a few of the same threads and she has not posted unless I've missed.

Illi if I drank 4 drinks I would be impaired in every way possible. But they sounded delicious 😋

I met with the surgeon this morning. The appointment was good and I like the surgeon.  I'm scheduled for surgery on Tuesday January 16/2024.  Post op appointment is January 30th.   I'm happy with this decision as at least it will take care of two problems.  Taking out the parathyroid gland with the adenoma (kind of like a cyst) will solve the high calcium levels and my parathyroid hormone will return to normal.  There are 4 parathyroid glands and they are the size of a piece of rice.

Granddaughter and her mother (DD#1) arrive tomorrow morning! My mother used to say "I can't wait to see the kids, then add "you too". I can't wait to get home from work. I have so much stuff for the baby - its been fun buying everything. We borrowed a pack n play but someone is giving us their crib including bedding. When she first mentioned it, I thought it was to borrow for the week which is why I borrowed the pack n play - duh!!! Why would someone loan a crib for a week? Their son is 4 and like my granddaughter he was a way, way long awaited for baby but the mom is much older than my daughter. My husband looked at me and asked if he needed to put it together - yes - we have an empty room in the basement with his drums so the crib can share the room.

Misty, I LOVE your son's Sunday dinner. What a wonderful thing for the whole family. 10 grands? What a blessing!

NM UGH! Hoping you get things resolved quickly.

BabyGirl, I think 4 of the Mint Russians might make me sick, but sounds good for 1. And the gingerbread latte sounds fun.

Reader, pretty cocktail and sounds yummy.

Karen, glad you have your surgery scheduled. And OMG, time for the baby to come. I'm so excited for you, and can't even imagine your excitement. Enjoy your time and love on that baby as much as you can!

Well, my brother won't be coming today. Unfortunately, he and his partner found his partners sister dead yesterday. Her work had called and said she had not shown up for work the last 2 days, so they went over to check on her and found her dead at her computer. He will be here on Saturday so he can stay for the funeral and support for the family.

Thanks ladies. She was a severe alcoholic and was in the hospital about a month ago for 6 weeks. She had a seizure at work, most likely alcohol related, was in a coma for quite some time, and when she got out of the hospital, went back to drinking. So, we assume she had another seizure. She was not very old, late 50's maybe. None the less, very sad for the family.

Lori - I'm so sorry to hear about your brother's "SIL". Such a tragedy. I'm glad though that he will still be coming out, even though its a few days later.

My granddaughter is a love!! She has such personality. She shreaks, laughs and is so much fun. After dinner, my daughter put her on the dining room table on the table cloth - she scooted across the table trying to grab whatever her little hands could grab. We kept moving things and finally, there was an empty paper plate that she played with.

My son had fun watching the baby - though he wasn't quite ready to hold her.

I'm TIRED tonight. I didn't really cook all that much - only made potato knishes and cut up a few raw veggies but for some reason I'm more tired than usual. My husband grilled chicken wings. Dinner was cookies I made over the week-end. My son is coming for dinner again Friday night for Shabbat dinner. I'm making boneless/skinless chicken thighs (DH will grill them), brisket cooked with chili sauce and onions in seltzer, potato latkes and a couple hot veggies. Dinner will be the same cookies as I doubt I'll have the energy to bake more.

I have a couple work meetings tomorrow morning that I will zoom in, then I'm taking the rest of the day off sick. Will go to Trader Joe's with my girls and go for a couple walks.

I told my big kids about the surgery before dinner. I asked them if they remembered that I was having problems with my calcium, the adenoma on the parathyroid and the elevated parathyroid hormone - I asked these questions one at a time. My son asks, so where is this going. Good question 😂 I told them the date of the surgery. DD#1 asked when I was going to tell DD#2 and I said when we see her. I'd rather not tell her on the phone as she is the one who worries about me the most.

HR will need a letter from the surgeon for FMLA. I'm waiting for the doctor office to call back - I want to know how long he will support taking off following surgery. They do not allow going back before 2 week post op visit. That would be January 30, a Tuesday and I was thinking waiting till the following Monday, but I want to be sure that it is enough time. I don't want to rush myself. I told the AP at the school I'm covering for a maternity leave which was supposed to be the third week in February. Her response was weird - the principal was out and I wanted to tell them today since I'm calling in tomorrow. They are going to put someone else in my place when I go on FMLA. Part of me would like to take one more week off and go visit my daughter, SIL and granddaughter. I'll have to talk to DH about this and see what air fares are like.

One more nice day of weather tomorrow and turning cold and maybe snow Friday and Saturday.

Well, I've rambled enough and I'm tired (hopefully what I wrote makes sense) so I'll wish everyone sweet dreams.

What a sad situation, Goldie. So glad your brother will be coming. Company and help for you.
