OMG junie, that is horrible! With the snow, etc., will the others be able to get to your house??? I know you want a clean house, but they will be so involved in the game, they may not notice (esp the guys!). I sure hope and pray you can leave on Monday!!!! Instead of cleaning house, I think you need to relax with your bucket of MLs!!

Something horrible just happened near here, less than 2 hrs ago...a 15 yr old was shot in the head, at the middle school....not sure if he survived...they did say he is at the hospital. My DH drove right by the school, at about the time it happened....so knew nothing of it till later. Apparently no one could pick up their kids, cause it went on lockdown, even tho they think they have the shooter in custody...all sorts of emerg vehicles are there now. This school is prob about 7 mi from us, in a very nice area. SO very sad. Update: They just said he is in very critical condition, and they DO have the alleged shooter in custody.

Good lord, wahine, that's terrible!  It's downright frightening the kinds of things that are going on in schools these days.

I keep reminding myself that there are a lot causes of back pain besides spinal mets, and that simple muscle strain is much more common and much more likely, but part of me just keeps worrying.  It's a lot better today after a long session with a hot pack and some tylenol, but not gone completely.  But I'm still able to get around, and do stuff around the house so I'm probably over-reacting.  And the pain did start after I did a yoga workout that included the cobra pose, which is notoriously hard on the back if not done properly.  If I keep telling myself this I'll start believing it, right?  Anybody want to take any bets the back pain goes away as soon as I get my recon date?  I left a message at the PS office asking where things were with scheduling today.  Haven't heard back yet.

Ah, heck, have one of the boys bring me a drink.  Any drink.  I have GOT to quit fussing over things I can't control.

Gawd - what the hell is wrong with today's youth??? I fear for my daughter when she starts school. I hope the boy survives and is okay. A parent's nightmare for sure.

Stay safe everyone. More snow and cold just about everywhere. I'm still in class on Saturday but hope to get home in the evening. We'll see how many flights are cxld or delayes. Winter, just GO AWAY!!!

Junie, I hope that DL treats you right but if not let me know - okay?  :)

Yes, I got to my room okay last night. A long day with little sleep the previous night did me in. I only had three glasses of wine but they did me in! I have no plans to drink tonight, just to have some dinner, stay warm, (it's cold down here in Atlanta) and get a good night's sleep!

    Cheers!

that is so sad-and i agree -- what has happened to our kids?  my hubby (granted we are older than dirt) use to carry his shotgun to school either on his bike or (gasp) on the bus so he could go hunting right after school with friends.  no body even thought about it. it was normal.  and there was not one incident at the school, or any school that i ever heard of until several years ago.

whooooaaaa  need a shot after that....going with brandy

Jaybird--DL better be nice to me!   They stand to make a lot of money off us!   Will have lots of "correct change" on hand.    Last trip--a Bloody Mary was $6 and a beer was $5  ???   Drinks on the plane is built-in cost of our vaca's--and, soooo much fun!!!

As another "older than dirt" wonderful person....all this school violence is ao upsetting (4 out of the 8 grandkids are in grade school; one is in middle school)    I can't fathom what must go through their heads when they hear of such things--and no way to hide it from them--unless mom or dad locks computer down and turns off tv and doesn't leave the newspaper out.....so sad!

Big hugggsssss to all--this friggin' winter storm keeps getting uglier and uglier!!!

junie, I think now you have to use a CC on DL for drinks and snacks...they are now "cashless" I believe. You may need to stash those little bottles and just order the free sodas/mixers! I agree, this school violence is soooo scary. This boy that was shot, it turns out was only 14...still in very critical condition. Makes me glad that my DD's homeschool my 5 grandchildren! But in this shooting, it was an isolated incident, and not aimed at several kids. I guess that can happen almost anywhere. Scares me more when they go in armed with so many weapons and end up shooting so many. What is our world coming to!!!

Hope all you gals in the path of the storm are doing okay, and staying safe and keeping warm! Be careful of all that snow shoveling....might have to send Pants and Jocks out your way, if they can't shovel snow at least they can provide drinks!

    Cheers to my Breast Friends!

    Good morning, ladies!

It's a beautiful morning here in Maine.  Enough sunshine for the crystals in the window to throw rainbow all over the livingroom.  Woke up this morning with NO back pain!  Just a little stiff, so obviously I strained a muscle during my yoga workout the other day, something I've done before and should have recognized for what it was.  Sorry for freaking out yesterday, and thanks to all for the reminders that not all pain = mets.  Jocks, Pants, serve everyone here anything they want and put it on my tab, would you please?  Just a little thank you for putting up with my whining.

I'm afraid there's no way to protect kids from hearing about school violence.  Even if the computer, TV and newspaper are locked off they'll hear it talked about in the checkout line at the grocery store, or in some other public place, not to mention at school.  Not sure what to do about that, makes me glad I never had children.

Hunting is a major pastime in Maine, too.  I can remember seeing rifles on racks in the back windows of the pickup trucks in the high school parking lot during deer and turkey seasons.  Never thought twice about it.  The culture then was to look forward to being old enough to have your parents teach you how to shoot the rifle!  That priviledge came with safety teaching as part of the package.  One mistake with the safety routines and you couldn't shoot the gun for the rest of the day.  Target shooting was a big thing, a family activity.  Not being able to shoot for a day was a HUGE punishment!  I haven't shot a gun in years now, but would go target shooting if I had a chance.

Hi gals! Am anxious to hear from our snow-bound gals and know that you are okay, and how much snow you got. Is it still snowing for the whole weekend? I am sure you stocked up on food and booze, and hopefully the power will stay on!

NM and GS, how well I remember everyone having a rifle (or two, etc) on the rifle racks on the back windows of the trucks....after I moved from HI to NC when I was 18. What a shocker that was!!! When my kids were young, we had that darn old rifle rack, even though we didn't keep rifles on it...guess its something that guys back then thought they needed! They started a facebook page where people could write comments, prayers, etc for the shooting victim, and in the first hr, there were over 500 entries. And this was right after it happened! Haven't seen the news yet for an update, but my stepdau works at the hosp he was brought to, and she said it didn't look good.

Jaybird, hope you can fly home tonight, in spite of all the cancelled flights!

Hope someone will have a drink for me....can't drink on this diet....but come Valentines Day weekend that goes out the window and I will be at the casino, making up for all I missed....LOL. Anxious to try that "slippery nipple" but w/ butterscotch schnapps this time. How 'bout a snowcream and brandy drink??? OR something else with snow....seems to be a lot of that everywhere. Maybe make a flavored snowcone and add vodka.....yummmmmm.......

    Stay safe and warm!

    Good morning everyone :)

The ride home from work yesterday was totally clear, even though we had gotten at least 6 or so inches by 2:00 PM. Our road crews did an amazing job. It continued to snow maybe another 5-6 inches through the rest of the night. I think they are saying we may end up with at least 15-17 inches before it's all done and over. And now its going to start getting windy, so they are concerned about the blowing snow and drifts. BUT, is Saturday and as far as I'm concerned it could snow another foot! LOL I don't need to go nowhere. We are supposed to go out for Julz B-Day tonight and still will as long as the roads are as good as they were yesterday. We are all stocked up on everything we need and will stay in and light a fire tonight if we can't get out. How are you doing across town E? Junie, I sure hope you get off in your vaca without any problems! What's everyone else up to this weekend? Stay warm and toasted :0)~

    OXOXO Dee~

Dee, wow thats a ton of snow!!! Glad you got home safely, and hope the roads are clear so Julz can have a nice birthday celebration!  Thanks for letting us know you are A-OK! Now, who gets to shovel all that snow??? E, hope you're okay too!

Hi all - just popping in for a quick drink. Dee, happy to hear you made it home just fine - hope you all have a great celebration tonight!

NM - VERY happy to hear you're pain-free. That is good news and certainly deserves a drink.

Wahine - so very sad (and scary) to hear about the situation at the school. It just makes no sense to me. Certainly hope the kid is ok.

Junie - have a wonderful SB party, and a great vacation! Safe travels!

As Dee said, we got a ton of snow, but thankfully our power is still on. My husband was driving a snowplow until midnight last night, and went out again at 6 am - the snow is so wet and heavy, it takes a lot more passes to clear roads & drives with a smaller plow blade. I just came in from shoveling our driveway, and I think that, after my drink, I will be taking a well-deserved nap. Oh, and my husb knows a weather guru who says that we should be getting another winter storm/snow dump within the next week, so hang in there!   Buh bye, and buy bonds. xo, E

Wow, E, thanks for letting us know you are okay too! Can only imagine how busy your DH is right now, driving a snowplow. Must be a hard job....sooooo cold. Glad he is taking care of the roads! Hope you didn't overdo, with all that shoveling. Pants, please bring E a nice, tall drink, asap!

Thanks for all the concern over the 14 yr old that was shot yesterday. Unfortunately I just found out that he died last night. I'm sure his family and friends could use your prayers. Now I guess after the investigation, the 15 yr old shooter has the possibility of being tried as an adult...apparently it can go either way, but heavy on the adult side when a death is caused.

    Take care everyone,

    Kathy

so sorry to hear that--no one should have to bury a child..  i know that is a stupid thing to say in terms of history, as there was not much more dangerous than being a child many years ago, but with all our wonderful immunizations etc, seems we have turned that corner, only to see our children exterminate themselves.  sometimes i wonder if this is the high price we are paying for our new technologies...do our children just not understand the difference between reality and their video games/movies?  or are they just so desensitized from all the exposure, and if so, what can possibly combat that.  it isn't likely we will go back to the little house on the prairie.  anyway, my heart is aching for the families.

baileys & coffe this morning...beautiful morning here in the northwest, and since we have had such a mild winter, perhaps all that moisture has been saving up for you all in the east...hang in there.  on the news it was so odd how many flights were cancelled even before the snow started falling....

Good Morning Girls! I hope Dee and E have dug out from all that snow. Wow, what a storm!!! I finally feel human again this morning for the first time in a few days...was able to have a cup of cafe...yay! Lost 6.5 lbs in 4 days on the jumpstart of the diet, but it sure took its toll. And I got to have chocolate this am...I think that was a big part of me feeling better...LOL. Just hope the next few days I get to keep it off...still on the diet but get to add more food...YAY! And I can start drinking again, but will have to exercize enough for whatever calories I drink...but will be worth it. FINALLY get to have Pau Hana tonight...DOUBLE YAY!!!

Connie, how is the mudding coming along? I bet it is looking so great already. Junie, Hope the weather is ok for your buds to come over today for the PARTAY...and esp that it is okay for your drive to the airport tomorrow, for your Tues flt. Jaybird, did you make it home ok last night? NM, glad your back pain was just from overuse, and nothing serious! Everyone else, hope you are doing great! HD, where are you? Haven't seen you post lately...and I miss your humor!

ChEARS to eating and drinking and digging out of snow,

Good gravy....I go missing for a few days and The HTL goes nuts! By the time I got done reading, to catch up, 2 pages, I didn't have time to respond! Just been busy!

Went to the movies Friday and saw Avatar. Didn't think I would like it, but it was pretty cool. Had it not been in 3D, I wouldn't have cared to much for it, as Sci Fi is not my thing.

Had a beautiful day here yesterday. Sunny and almost 60 degrees. But looks like now we might get a little rain or snow. I just hope its not anything too bad, that I can't get out on Wednesday to head to MI to see family.

Junie, you have a great time on your vacation. You too Kathy, in Tunica. Hope you can get out. Dee, hope you and Julz had a nice B-day celebration despite all the snow. NM, glad you are feeling better and passing out snowballs! HD, love the jello shot igloo...CUTE! and Junie calling them "hello shots"! Connie will have to have a party at her house, in her new finished room. Jaybird, congrats on passing everything and I hope you make/made it home ok. grdnslve, that baileys & coffee sure sounds yummy.

Kathy what is this diet? Sounds like its working!

Hi to everyone I have missed.....seems our little secret lounge is getting out! Love that it's getting so crowded! Well I better get to cleaning and start packing too!

    Hugs to everyone...Lori

Good sunny Sunday morning from Chicagoland! We dodged the snow bullet all this past week. I hope those in the DC/Philly/etc. areas are warm and safe and stocked-up on their fave liquors!

Cheers to you, Kathy, and enjoy your cocktail(s) today/tonight.

I may or may not watch the Superbowl tonight (no plans to go out) because I really don't care who wins. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Superbowl Sunday!

    Hello!!

I think we're on the final "what did we miss, oh, there's a small spot" part of mudding! It took a few more passes than we thought it would, because at first we didn't have good tools and didn't know exactly what to do. Much better now!

Tomorrow, if it's all dry, we can put the primer coat on! It's actually starting to look more like a room now. Theoretically, it will all be done by Wed! It needs to be done by Saturday because we're having a dinner party for my son (he just turned 20) with his new grandparents, cousins and Aunt and Uncle. I hope he wants something simple.

Busy week ahead of me, getting ready for the surgery. Hopefully I won't forget anything vital!

Here's hoping that all who got dumped on with snow get shoveled out safely! I'm so with you in the jello igloo! We should make one for each of us with connecting tunnels!

Now I need to go get ready for the SuperBowl. My husband loves watching it and has invited a couple of friends over. Luckily they are fairly low maintenance, but I need to get some of this drywall mud off me!

    Drink safely!

Connie, hope you get all your projects done prior to the surgery.  Diep is no picnic, and I am sure combined with a Total Hysty it won't be fun.  I probably should have told them to yank my overies and the works while they had me opened up.  I will keep my fingers crossed for ya. I will build you your own private igloo if needed.  Your surgery is still a couple weeks so I hope you will be ready.  Just plan on being down and out for a while.  I know you know the drill.  NM, you are coming up for surgery too if I remember!  Everyone here will keep you both in their thoughts.  Everyone who is scheduled to leave for vacay tomorrow or this week...good luck....JBird...hope you also have a fun superbowl sunday wherever you are!  All our bars here offer rides from the bar anywhere in town for $5.  Finally, they are getting smart.  I went to Home Depot today and on the way saw three bars having tailgate partys in their parking lots at 10:45AM. It is warm enough at 35 degrees so weather is no issue here. Guess I will feed my body some estrogen in the form of alcohol now. Where is casino girl?  Where is CAZ?  Where am I?  LOL....give me liquor, or a damn good field goal kicker!  HD

Connie, I hope you're gettng every thing done before your date, and good luck to you!

Superbowl partiers and tailgaters, have a fun time!  I've never understood the fascination with watching grown men chasing balls around, but if it's a good excuse for a party I'll sign on!

Hooray for Nawlins!!!   Did watch the game and think I am safe in saying the Saints won?   But, here's what a football fan I am--I made a comment at our party that all I knew about this Super Bowl was that the Miami Dolphins were playing and that's who I was rooting for 'cause I like their colors........could have heard a pin drop!   After everyone stopped laughing it was explained to me that the GAME was being played in Miami!    Luckily I'd had a few ML's by then so I thought it more funny than stupid!  (I am NOT a football fanatic!!)

All packed and ready to roll tomorrow pending weather complications.   You all hold down the fort here; don't shovel too much snow;  I'll drink some exotic tropical drink each day for each of you--maybe find something new to bring back and share!   Will check in if I can!

    Adios!   Hasta luego!!!!

Well, no superbowl for us. I am with NM. Just not a sports junkie and neither is hubby! I am so thankful for that one. But had to laugh at Junie rooting for Miami. I would have done something like that too Junie, so don't feel too bad! I hope you can check in to let us know you got out.

Jaybird, glad you made it home just fine and dandy.

Kathy, wow ..... over 6 lbs in a week??? I am definately looking up that diet. You go girl!

Dee, how have you been feeling lately? And where the hell was that snow picture taken? Holy Cow!

Hunky, what were you shopping for at HD? I am not a mall shopper and would rather go to HD, Lowes, garden centers, etc!

Drinkin' tonight as tomorrow night I'm sure I'll be dealing with snow. 'They' say 6-10(12)" starting tonight and not ending until the wee hours of Wednesday. Ugh! By tomorrow a.m. about 3". Avery so enjoyed pre-school today that I'm really glad tomorrow is a 'go' right now with just a few inches expected by then. Will get my butt home after school and just watch it snow for the remainder of the day. Started up the snowthrower just to make sure it works, and it does!  :)

More snow expected for the east coast, too, and I only hope I get to work on Thursday. May have to try to get there Wednesday night but that may be a worse plan. My eyes and ears are glued to the weather chanel. I hope everyone else is/stays safe and warm. Cheers!
