Oh, Stanzie--what a difficult thing to go through! Funny how common household disasters can suddenly become emotionally charged when attached to a memory. But, flooding the kitchen is NOT your 'hound of the Baskervilles' despite your mother's experience. It's a garden variety household happening, you WILL still be here 3 months from now. I won't say you'll look back and laugh at it, but you will look back on this and shake your head a year from now.

wahine--no pics of the tats? Gee, and I thought we shared EVERYTHING here! Actually, I don't blame you, and I'm so glad you got it done and can't wait to hear how they look when they are healed!

makeupchicNC--welcome! plenty of room as you can see. Also plenty to do, or not do, as the mood strikes.

apple--YES, you MUST join this thread!  We have much too much fun to not share!

Lets see, a drink for today--

MakeupchickNC (Earleen), WOW....the tatts look even better today....I know they will change a lot in the next few days, but they sure look good now!

Lori, When you return from your trip, could you repost that link to the pics of our beloved Hot Tatties Lounge, and Pants, Jocks, etc....so our new lounge lizards could see the utopia we created? I'm also wondering if we need to include a small lake, so we can go boating and not be jealous of junie everytime she goes boating without us....we sure have all bases covered, don't we!

Well...gotta hit the road..."On the road again"....

    Tit for Tat,

    Kathy

    Good morning!

I went to bed early last night so I missed the party but I was definitely here in spirit!

Welcome to the new ladies! I hope you have a lot of fun here.

I am still on the antibiotics and things look to be healing and calming down. At least Don says it looks good, I really have a hard time looking at it. My nipple is still mad, though, and won't "lie down", but at least the breast is finally starting to sag a little, maybe there will be a match here at some point!

Oh, I forgot to mention, beanius, that if you decide to cut your hair off before it falls out to not make it too short. My aunt did that when she had chemo - went to a friend and got a buzz cut - and then spent the next few days feeling like she had just gotten a haircut and the little hairs were falling down her neck. Not a good feeling.

Very tired from doing more house renos. We converted the hall closet into a storage area and built a bed base for our new bed. It is an awesome storage area - holds 24 small moving boxes! Once I get some of the pictures on our website I'll post the URL for you. But it will definitely be a few days before that gets done.

Off to catch up on some bill paying. Take care and keep partying!

We definately need a lake--and a lovely sandy beach!  I'd love to have a lovely salt-water cove to swim in, too, but maybe a wave pool would fit the bill and be less work for the Tenders and Wenches to take care of.  I'm reserving a hammock bwtween the drink fountain--you know, the one that has a different drink from each spout, and the chocolate fountain.

A note to the newbies to the lounge--there are several counters around the lounge where you can help yourself to sunscreen, roulette chips, cash for the casino, tokens for the slot machines, towels, pillows, blankets, and just about anything else we might need.  If you need something that isn't there just mention it to one of the Tenders or Wenches and it will be brought to you ASAP!

kittycat - so glad you found an onc you like, I did too, for me I guess the third was the charm! Best of luck to you with your chemo too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AStorm - congratulations, yahoo!! How did you find out about your surprise party? I'll be there and can't wait for the "after" cocktail. I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait....thanks for bein here!

Junie - thanks for the hugs and the drink! I was wanting to rush into chemo, but now that it may start next Tues I'm getting really scared. My onc said no alcohol during tx, now that's scary. The thot of being bald with no alcohol is making me tremble. I like your beer idea, think I'll get some of that on hand, I've heard it has no alcohol in it if no one is looking...I will enjoy a fast, hairless shower (and a bottle a beer). Thanks for the encouragement and for the parking tag idea. Cheers to your new toilet! Hurray!!!

ConnieS - You said I might not need a head cover. Did you lose your hair on TC? I gotta ask too, did you take anything before you went for your first tx? The onc prescribed two anti nausea pills, compazine and zofan. I'm not sure if I'm posta take before infusion or wait till I'm sick?? A nice side effect of both is they may give you a headache. So which is worse, headache or nausea?? Fun stuff. (I will send a PM bout head covers...)

wahine - Thistle Meadow Winery in NC has something called "Bald Head Red."glass red wine

Congrats on yer tatts! Cheers to you with lots of little drink umbrellas!

Goldie - thanks for the advice on fatigue. You know yesterday was one of those bad days and I was so tired. I had to drive into town and could hardly keep my eyes open - and this is before tx! - so I finally just pulled over and got to a safe spot and closed my eyes for about ten min. Then I was able to get on with my day. A big part of my problem was that a friend of mine, who has a different kind of cancer, told me he just found out about a recurrence and that he's got very harsh tx coming up real soon. It made me so sad and just wiped me out. I'm sorry to hear about your son's friend's mom. These things just are so hard to deal with, I will include her in my prayers.

NM - Thanks for the "Doggy Pee" much needed today, thanks for making me laugh!!!!! What kind of drink is good for your upcoming recon? Hmmm, will have to think. BTW how many minutes and seconds?

hunkydory - I was hoping you'd get back in time for the party. And to toilets, test, piss and tats I think we should add puke for chemo start next week.

Stanzie - man, that's awful about the flooding. I've been doing so many spacey things like that too. Hope you get it all dried out again.

    Hi to apple!!

Hi to MakeupchickNC - were your ears burning? (we heard good things about you.)

Hope you enjoy the party, I'm havin a blast and don't wanna leave. So I'm staggering back up to the bar for another round. Here's to ya!

Beans -- so you should do your drinking now. BTW, all the drinks served here at the HTL are fat-free and safe during chemo! In fact, drinking with us is highly recommended by 9 out of 10 oncologists. Hope you are planning something special this weekend. :)

Welcome to the lounge Stanzie, and Apple. You should feel at home here.  Apple, I have seen some of your posts as a lurker on the stage 3 thread.  What a word....lurker?  LOL!  Maybe we need a baby grand here though!  I am under the impression you are brilliant on the keyboard!   Makeup chick.....come west young lady....come west!  My P.S. doesn't do tats and I have to travel 5 hours to get mine done anyway.  I might as well fly your way.  Maybe JAYBIRD can comp me a ride!  Where are you Jaybird?  Having crumpets with the queen?

    CHAPTER TWO:

Beans....you make me laugh.  Not that chemo is funny at all, but the addition of puke was appropriate.  By, the way, I had 3 anti nausea pills and only took the zofran I think orally.  I avoided the compazine if I remember, because it said one of the side effects could be facial twitches.  I did not want to be a bald woman with a facial twitch.  I did not get headaches from the zofran and the other one which I can't remember.  Also, I believe they will start an anti-puke medicine in your infusion line.  I had so many pill bottles with 18 letter names, I just labled the nausea ones Puke-1, Puke-2, and Puke-3. I think and pray that you and Kitty will do fine.  You will get an orientation before you start.  Junie, how's that sparkling new turlet?  Glad your other is not going to the dump.  It's been dumped (in) enough.  AStorm, swing by and get me when you get the bus fired up....sing sing....Schoooools, OUT for Summer!  LOL!  Lori, have fun on your trip.  I get outings also...it's just to a 1 star hotel hell I call the Reconstruction Inn!  Wahine...keep those tats covered.  Eyebrows next....gawd I would love to have some.  Mine never came back quite right after the chemo.  Lucky for me, mine are light anyway.  Connie, glad your infection is clearing.  I was so lucky not to have any trouble.  Well, I did spit a few stitches.  NM, you sure have kept the TT's all busy mixing drinks and working up construction plans.  Dee, my little monkey....drop in.  I know monkeys fly....I saw them on the Wizard of Oz!  Not sure if pigs do!  Hugs to ya all...HD

I'm baaaack! Bean, that wine looks yummy...didn't get to stop at any wineries though. Should have, as we made the mistake at stopping at an Indian Casino...boy did they take our money!!! Beautiful trip though, and can't wait to return in the fall to see all the fall colors in the Smokey Mountains, and also to see Earleen again!

HD, Yup, Earleen does gorgeous eyebrows...they look absolutely natural, actually better than natural, as I have never liked mine! Never had chemo, but am not such a "makeup artist", so have never felt mine look as good as they should, and would like them to look better.

Nm, Yes, indeed, a sandy beach and a huge lake....we can lie in the sand, or water ski, or boat ride, or whatever!

Take care gals...I am tired...took us 10 1/2 hrs to drive home...of course that included a 2 hr casino stop! Went the "scenic route", so lots of 2 lane hiways! Nice to be back home and hugging our doggies!!! And will be good to see my dentist tomorrow so he can re-cement that crown that came out during the holiday weekend. Soooooo glad I went though, and so glad I chose Earleen to do my "finishing touches" as I am already so pleased with the results!!!

    Ciao,

Beanius, I can't remember if I took anything before hand, but probably took something to relax me. I tend to be quite the nervous type! The nausea didn't bother me much until after the second infusion. And yes, I did lose my hair - it took less than a week to fall out. The speed was pretty freaky to me. I also had a picc line put in which threw off a blood clot so my husband had to poke holes in me for a while - I was a mess of bruises! But oh, that port line was wonderful to have - no pokes for blood draws (I'm a hard draw) and no blown IV veins!

NM, what kind of recon are you having? I'll count down with you...30, 29, 28, 27.... :)

I've got an appointment with my new oncologist for June 24. I hope he's good. At least he's heard of and dealt with HNPCC before! One of my biggest worries was going around to a bunch of oncos to find one who knew what I have!

Back to see the PS tomorrow - hopefully for a few months! I'm really wanting to remember what it's like to not be in pain - it's been about 14 months since that happened last!

Well, it's official... I'm starting chemo next Wednesday, the 9th.  Woo Hoo!  I'm actually glad I'm starting right away.  My thought is the sooner it starts, the sooner it's over!!!  I'm drinking some red wine tonight.  I get the port in tomorrow.  My hubby asked if he could inject alcohol into the port and get me buzzed faster!  LOL!!!

We had to cancel our camping trip for 4th of July.  Oh well.  We can plan something when I'm done with this crap.  My hubby is totally freaked out about me being exposed to germs.  One of his coworkers went through chemo a couple years ago and she got sick a couple times.  He is on this nutrition kick with me, too.  Men are so funny on how they try to fix things!  Anyway, I appreciate his concern.  Did you gals (who had chemo) do anything special to avoid getting sick.  The onco said no raw food (even veggies) unless their peeled.  everything has to be cooked really well.  My mom thinks I have to avoid my animals.  OMG!  That's the one thing I love (even more than drinking).

Bean - we are on this journey together.  So, you're having TC?  How many rounds?  Sorry if you posted that before.  I'm finding I have chemo brain before having chemo!!!

Lori - Have fun on your trip!!!  :)  Take lots of pics!  :)

    Cheers girls!

Saw my onco today. All is well but I was really nervous. Heather, you are an inspiration! We have to go through so much and you just keep swimmin and sippin. gotta love that! I may be having another "exchange"... hate my saline implants. I tried to get over it but those aren't ripples they are tidal waves.

When I got home this evening my big tiger (Oliver) was fixated on something under the couch. I looked and saw nothing and I think he sometimes sees things that aren't there... I went to wine class and when I came home he was still there, purring contentedly. Turns out there was a lizard under there (ohhh those things give me the creeps!) So my daughter is standing on a chair, yelling for her dad to catch it because she gets extra credit in Biology if she brings in a lizard... HE is probably just as freaked out as I am but he's got a Tupperware container in his hand claiming to not see the thing... everyone is screaming, cats and dogs are all freaking out and the poor reptile has run under a bookcase... can't we just take a picture of the darn thing and let it go home.

That's funny.  I love how your cat was purring over the lizard.  My cats found a lizard under the stove and stalked it.  Then, one of them tortured it to death.  I was going to leave it on the kitchen floor to freak my hubby out, but Haley kept "killing it" and meowing up a storm.  So, I put it on top of the trash!

Heather, I also had that cocktail. My hair just fell out quickly. You shouldn't have to avoid your pets, although your husband should clean up after them, not you! My cat really enjoyed cuddling with me while I was recovering from the surgery and then the chemo naps. The dogs tried to, too, but I didn't let them as often (mostly because I'm a cat person, not a dog person).

I don't remember the nausea to be too bad except right at the end when my stomach went on strike - but that was caused by my first cancer and not this one. The chemo just aggravated it.

I didn't have chemo brain this time, but sure did the first time! I'm not sure which is worse, though...chemo brain or not being able to sleep because of hot flashes!

Gail, I'm so sorry to hear you aren't liking your implants. I hope they can fix that for you! Did you ever catch the poor lizard and let it go home?

    To sleep, perchance to dream.

Nothing like an actual "lounge lizard" to liven things up in the TaTa Lounge!

    7 oz (chilled)

NM, LOVE the drink today...how appropriate....LOL...ok but what is the "7 oz. chilled"?! AStorm, was that lizard a gecko? We have tons of those in Hawaii, and if they are in your house, they are supposed to bring good luck..strange, yeah? But when I visit my parents, I always forget that noise they make..esp in the middle of the night...then I crack up laughing! Weird to see the ones w/ several short tails....you know they got caught in the gate or door several times! I sure respect all you gals that have to/or have gone through chemo....so many challenges. At Earleen's (nonprofit Beauty through Cancer), there is a special room filled with beautiful wigs, scarves, etc.....all free for cancer patients! I was very impressed with that...as well as the whimsical decor, feather boas, etc. A beautiful, and fun place! After all, you SHOULD have special treatment, having to go through chemo, and I hope more places like hers will spring up all over the country.

OK, off to enjoy a "Lounge Lizard" with all you lounge lizards here.....have a great day everyone!

There he is! I tease DH about being a "city-boy" all the time... he caught the lizard, put it in a Tupperware dish (which I will supposedly want to use for food in the future) and left it outside. Of course, it is gone this morning as they left the hole on the top open for air. And now I see he's sacked out an a lounge chair at the HTL! Well at least he is safely away from my family.

Well this morning starts out good. They have started moving out some of the big fans and humidifiers so it is a lot quieter. It is amazing how tiring loud constant noises can be. They ripped out a huge chunk of the ceiling in the den and kitchen - too bad it was the part that was just renovated 3 years ago and certainly didn't need replacing. It is interesting how the white ceiling reflected light and now it is so much darker in my kitchen. If I knew how to post pictures I could show how much damage about an hour's worth of water can do! I finally figured out how long it ran.

I was extremely lucky on many fronts. One when they put in my daughter's bathroom they had drilled a big hole but didn't use it for the drain. Well, when the water poured out it seeks lowest point to it ran through the floor into the hole and down which saved the water not spreading more through the ceilings and down the walls. Next it flowed into a linen closet where of course I stored linen which soaked up water, plus I was doing laundry for my kid's going to camp so piles of laundry were scattered - also soaked up water.

Then finally they told me by quickly mpooing and sucking (shop vac, and steam cleaner) up the water I hopefully have saved my hardwood floors from damage. Apparently a lot of people would just leave it all there and not do anything and wait for a company to come - I can't imagine just sitting there and watching all the water and not try to soak it up???? Still waiting to see how much ran down the return and into the HVAC. But lights still work! Didn't go down into the basement! Missed the old piano! Missed ALL the upholstered and nice wood furniture! Got one area rug which they are cleaning for me and have dried out my Lovely Liesl's princess dog bed and washed her toys. Finally dried out the cane seated chairs in the sun. So whew! I now know I can blame it all on my contractor as the last three times he has gone out of town something happens here and his partner has to come over.

Kittycat - best of luck with chemo - you have a great attitude and a loving hubby so I know you will do great! i agree with you if I have to do something better to get going on it.

Wahine - sorry about your Dad - hope you get good news soon! Dee - your (( Mom )).

AStorm - very funny about the lizard- and ick to the tupperware... I like the picture idea myself.

My cat just bring in everything alive and then I guess after running around and getting chased by the dog they have heart attacks as there isn't ever any blood. When we are home my kids are used to the drill of ovening all the doors and getting brooms and towels to either shoo them out or catch them. It is funny when friends who are more squeemish come over and stand of chairs screaming and my kids look at them like they have lost their minds it is such an every day thing.... Cheers to all!

All drinks are on me today. My wallet is wide open and I' buying everyone drinks, vacuum cleaners, grand pianos, stylish makeovers, anti-puke pills, lounges, and as many lizards (in Tupperware) as you want. And yes, that is me in the corner with my head deep in the punch bowl coming up only for air and to blow kisses. My onc called last eve to say they found no cancer in the two left breast lumpectomies they did last week. So no more surgery for now - yippee doodles!

AStorm - my plans for the weekend are to drink heavily in between helping my husband put tile in the kitchen and bathroom. I know he will enjoy my help - tee hee! And since everything is fat free, I think I'll eat a lot more pistachios too, or maybe beer nuts!! Best wishes with your implants. I loved your lizard story, that is so funny.

HD - you mean you had trouble keeping ondansetron hcl, prochlorperazine and aprepitant sorted out from dexamethasone, lorazepam and promethazine? Just kidding, I know it's not funny, but I can't help myself. I love your puke 1, puke 2, puke 3 labels - ooooeeeeyyyy that will work for my pre-chemo brain and pre-bald head. Sounds so simple, but which one is puke 1, the wide short bottle or the tall skinny one??? I'll take your advice and go to chemo school right away. I definitely need it.  I guess the anti-puke in the infusion line is puke 0?? Thanks for your prayers, you can tell I need ‘em!!

Mainer - 30, 29, 28, 27...I thought you meant to add a 7 oz lizard (chilled). So I put one in the punch bowl for good luck.

wahine - I'm convinced no one has worse eyebrows than me. My mom's were pretty but I got my dad's. I'll be glad when they fall out. I'm so glad yours are gorgeous and you like them. That's great news! Oh, that's good news too about the lizard or gecko bringing good luck. Does that also work for sow bugs? I get a lot of them downstairs...Still praying for your dad and wishing him the best.

ConnieS - I've heard that a xanax ahead of time maybe helps with the nerves. I'm a very anxious type person so was thinking of asking for six relaxing pills, one for each chemo tx. I guess that would be labeled "chill out 1" or something like that. All those bruises sound awful, I'm sorry you had to go through that. Best of luck with your new onc and I hope you get out of pain!!! I will be praying for you.

kittycat - They say wine is fine but liquor is quicker. But a snort in the port = instant comfort! Great idea! Sorry to hear you had to cancel camping. I love camping but with all this going on, will be grounded for a while too. We are in this together. I get 6 rounds of the TC cocktail. Armed with chill out pills and anti-puke pills we should be through this with ease. I think they are bumping my start date to June 15 due to JP (the thing that wouldn't leave) not being ready to come out till Monday. I hear you - the sooner it starts the sooner it's over. That will be really nice to have it over.

Stanzie - oh my, so sorry to hear of all the renovation work you have to do. I have been so preoccupied with my troubles that it would be easy to do something like that. I have to focus so hard when I'm driving. I got to the grocery store, got out of the car and almost went inside, then realized I had forgotten my glasses, so I went back for my glasses. Then was almost inside again when I realized I had forgotten my grocery list. So I went back for my list. It's been like that with everything. I make a lot of lists and then just can't move sometimes. I'm so sorry about the water damage. Sounds like it could have been much worse, so congrats on getting it sopped up quickly.

Cheers to all, have a great day.

Beans, Sorry I was confusing! I had Earleen do my 3D tatts, but WANT to go back later on and get some gorgeous brows done. I am like you, and have never liked mine, so looking forward to trying to get them done this fall. YAY, YAY, YAY....have a toast to NED (no evidence of cancer)....so glad to hear you don't need more surgery!!! Thanks for all the drinks, etc., and for the prayers for my dad.

Stanzie, OMG that is soooooo much damage. Didn't realize it was as bad as that. And thank god it is not worse, and you started getting it up right away. I know it will be very annoying until all the work is done...good idea to just chill here at the HTL and get away from it all!

My dentist put that crown back in this morning....glad I didn't lose it! Actually, although this is embarrasing, I DID have to rescue it from the trash can when I had it on the desk...luckily it was in the computer room, and just paper trash mixed in...and NOT in the garbage can!!! Auwe....!

Gawd, when will Pau Hana time get here....seems like it SHOULD be time for a drink...LOL.

    Chairs!

I gotta work tonight so I say its Pau Hana time now! Just got results from blood work ... onco says my estrogen is "off the charts" whatever that means, so no I can't switch from tamox to something that doesn't give me hot flashes. Oh, but I can take Effexor which apparently is technically an anti-depressant... wonder what lovely side effects that has. And I shouldn't drink (had to laugh at that one/ apparently onco doesn't have teen daughters).

One daughter had her last day of school today... thankfully she is the low-maintenance child and will only be home for a month before shipping out to art school. The screaming, swearing, door-slamming, champagne-stealing truant has one more week of school and isn't going anywhere. I'm going to need that bus...  it's going to be one long, hot summer. Maybe I should just take the Effexor. Guess I should look into side effects and compatibility with wine...

AStorm - Wow, what does that mean your estrogen is off the charts - I gahter he wasn't worried, yes? My daughter is 12 so we haven't totally started all the screaming but getting there. Already hard enough with two 13 year old boys - thank goodness for camps. I took Effexor and I don't remember being told not to drink or if there were any I did drink and didn't have any problems if that helps.

Wahine - Oh I hate Crowns and repairs - I'm so glad it wasn't in with the coffee grounds and yogurt containers and such - paper is much nicer.

As for lizards, any one else have the skinks - I love their colors.

I hope off the charts means I am getting lots of protection for my bones from that estrogen. Maybe there is estrogen in HTL's cocktails cuz it seems to be increasing since I started hanging out here.

I miss summer camps. They get to a certain age and you can't send them away anymore. My 17 YO is in that window where they are impossible to live with but not old enough to move out and realize how good they had it at home.

Stanzie -- so, you haven't sprouted wings or anything? Onco wants me to try acupuncture first (I laughed). After the numerous IV's and blood-letting I've been exposed to that just doesn't sound like something helpful.

wow--lots of crappola going on with everyone and it's not even a full moon!   This bathroom re-do has just about put me over the edge--why does one little thing lead to ten more, then ten more????   New toilet still in garage, but shower is in (and it is gorgeous!!!).  DH has decided to not touch up the paint; has decided to repaint the whole room--SO, I decide to change color scheme which led to trip to look at paint and bring sample chips home this afternoon.   Have decided on a color that compliments the floor tile (which we thought we were going to have to re-tile floor but turned out okay)...but new color leads to new towels, bath rugs, accessories with new color scheme....and, will need to replace mirror over sink--won't fit new color scheme!!  AND!!  off tomorrow to buy yet another new toilet for another bathroom while we've got all this help here to install it!!!   (have agreed that DH can have his higher toilet in that bathroom, so win-win)  Not sure this will ever end!!

We have lots of geckos/lizards in our yard--not sure which we have.   We have a large (almost 2-ft ceramic gecko) that is the centerpiece for our deck table.  I bring it inside during storms/winter--would be heart-broken if it were to get damaged.  It is painted in the Mexican Talavera style and is so bright and colorful; I smile whenever I look at it.

Well, shoot, I drank my first bucket while jabbering so much.   Jocks???  Candie??? another bucket, please.  And, maybe we need to think about larger buckets for me????  Maybe washtub-size????

Big hugggssss to all--have a great week end!!!

Wow, lots of stuff going this week!  I didn't even realize yesterday was Friday and here it is Saturday!

Junie--isn't it amazing how one home project leads to more and more and more?  I swear home projects work on a different sort of math than the rest of the world.  I have to admit I have this really silly mental picture of you and your DH wandering through a partially constructed home with toilets in every nook and cranny.

AStorm--I'm with you--hoping the "off the charts" estrogen level means lots and lots of protection.

wahine--glad you got your crown fixed. I'm sure whole experience made your day!

beanius--xanax is a VERY GOOD stuff!  I take it before EVERY encounter with a needle--even "routine" blood tests.  I always have a bottle with just a few pills in it--sort of a security blanket, I suppose.  If you think something like that would help, don't ask for it, DEMAND a prescription.  Remember the docs work for you, not the other way around!

Seems my challenge for finding a drink of the day is to include summer camp, crazy teens, toilets in odd places, home renovations, dental work, and good drugs.  This is going to take some work, I think.

I've got it!  I can't work all these things together, but I found a drink of the day that describes the end result of all of our trials this week:

    Absolutely Bananas

    Ingredients
    1 1/2 oz Vodka
    1/2 oz Banana Liqueur
    1 1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
