how about drinking?

Stanzie--there is a thread about nipples in the Reconstruction area. I've dropped in from time to time, it's usually active so you should be able to find it pretty easily. Come on over and stay at the Lounge until you have water again--being without water is almost as bad as being without electricity!
Wahine--if the mimosas are cold I may have to horn in on your monoply of the fountain--it is HOT here today, 90 degrees+ when the usual high is about 76! Supposed to be better tomorrow, though.
Claire--have the Tenders connect with your fav bartender and get all her secrets before she leaves! And you are welcome at the doggy park section anytime you need a doggy fix. My Sadie loves it there! I love swimmig in the waves, too, but I'm rarely far enough south to be able to do that without risking hypothermia. I loved that part of a 2 week vacation I once spent, many years ago, with my aunt and uncle in California.
AStorm-I'm amazed--I used to have migraines, and I could not function when I had one. I needed the dark, silent room and a barf bucket, and the room had to be cold, which was a problem sometimes in the summer. Fortunately the migraines stopped when I got my blood pressure under control and left a really bad work situation. Going shopping would not be something I could do with a migraine. Hope yours goes away ASAP!
KimMN--Welcome! You can come in anytime, the more the merrier!
Junie--Wow, talk about a trip to remember! I wouldn't go rafting again after an experience like that, either. How humiliating! I bet the oarsman was absolutely mortified. Have a drink and forget!
Lets see, what would be a good DOTD for today? Hmmm. let me think. . . .
How about a Broken Water Pipe?
1 oz Irish Cream
1 oz Green Curacao
(Fill to Top) Coca Cola

NM, OF COURSE the mimosas are ice cold....and ever-flowing! You know I was just kdding about monopolizing the fountain....always plenty to go around here, so fill up your glass and cool down some. Sorry to hear of your hot temps......now add 10+ degrees to that, (w/ humidity too) and that is what we had most of the summer! Seems like cold weather when it gets down to low 90's now....j/k. Such unusual weather this year! Hope it soon will be mild for everyone. OMG a Broken Water Pipe Drink......how perfect!!! LOL
Stanzie, Good throw getting the hose into your bathtub! Hope you will heat up some water b4 a bath though!!!! Yeah like NM said, just stay at the HTL for awhile....I am SURE the tattie tenders will tend to your every wish.
Not quite pau hana time for me..

Wahine--I knew you would let me get to the mimosa fountain! In my part of the world 90 degree summer days are usually a rarity. Last summer we had 3 90 degree days, and 3 months of rain. This summer we've had 3 days of rain and 3 months of 90 degree days! The humidity is a bit of a problem today, but that should break in a couple more hours when the sun goes down.
Stanzie--WTG, Sistah! Never mess with a woman, especially a bc survivor!!!!

Claire - I love a red blend! Too bad I haven't had any red wine since I started chemo! Bummer! Oh well. I wouldn't want to drink it and then hate it (like I've done with some things on chemo).
Stanzie - sorry to hear about the leak. That sucks!!! We might have a slow leak on our side yard. My husband's been watching it!
So, today my husband started up our ATV's and checked to make sure they were running. He had me ride my quad up the street. I had so much fun - and my wig didn't fly off!
Cheers girls!!! Happy Sunday Funday!!!

Hi Kitty Cat,
I didn't drink anything for almost six months either. Just didn't want to stress my liver which was being taxed to the hilt anyway. Admit though, that I did take extra large slugs of communion wine. Our church uses port provided by the parishioners, and some of it is very good.
I had a global virtual wine part to celebrate my getting through chemo. Waited until it was safe to drink again. I had the first one the night of my surgery, as considered that the point when I would shut down the cancer factory.
No wine this evening, but my friends and I did make a detour to Hale's Ales for some post church picnic libation. The problem is that the Seattle doesn't allow drinking in parks, not the congregation who are tipplers in the best Episcopalian tradition. My favorite service is Friday Evensong with wine and cheese at the end. We do it once a month, and quite often it's the wine that goes with soda left over. - Claire

What's with all the leaks? Now we just discovered one too....and apparently it has leaked into our floor for about 4 wks...when the a/c guy replaced our water turnoff valve in the bathroom(didn't realize it has been leaking under the wall). Our wood floor near the family room has all buckled up....and this is such a pretty floor (or WAS)....DH went under the house tonight to check, and came up covered in mud...said there are huge puddles and the subfloor(?) is dripping in a huge area. Not sure if it might be all wet under the bathroom tile too. SHEESH....this sucks....bigtime, since we are supposed to go out of the country....not sure if we can solve this in 2 days....need to get it dried out so we won't end up with mold. What a predicament. Claire, do you think Hale's Ales is still open? Otherwise, I know the HTL is open 24/7 and looks like I need to camp out there and maybe get plastered so I won't worry about all this crap.
Down with Leaks!!!!

Geez, Kathy! Ilove our hardwood floors but they are easily damaged. We had ours refinished a couple of years ago but our Christmas tree was leaking (we didn't realize) and after we took the tree down the floor under it had buckled. I'm impressed your DH goes under the house... mine won't do that, or go into the attic. Between the house issues and sick pets we seem doomed to be house-bound. Home your situation works out and you get to go away as planned. If not, come on down to the HTL!

Hi Gail.....yeah I like them too...first time we have had a problem though. Wish we had realized the guy left that valve leaking!!! Were you able to fix the buckling? Well, my DH did NOT want to go under the house, I just told him he needed to. I said we should check under there every month.....I know he won't do that though....LOL. I am the one that has to go in the attic. We need to make the trip to OZ as my parents are depending on meeting us there....hope some solution comes up tomorrow cause we need to get it dried out, esp under the flooring, under the house.

Oh, my all the leaks going on are NOT good news!
DOTD: The Water Leak
1/2 oz Southern Comfort
1/2 oz Amaretto
1/2 oz Blue Curacao
1/2 oz Coconut Rum
1/2 oz Spiced Rum
1/2 oz Raspberry Liqueur
1/2 shot 7 Up Mixer
Sweet and Sour Mix0 -
Thank you NM, for all of us with these horrendous leaks! Think it'll do the trick? Or at least make it so we don't care.....lol. Just got up so haven't started calling anyone. Today was the day DH needed to get ALL the lawns mowed today...SIL offered some help so will ask him to do the townhouse one where they stayed these past few days. So much to do b4 our trip. Think the TT's know plumbing and drying up flooded areas????? Stanzie, Hope you are making headway on your newest leak....and right after getting the work finished from that BIG flood you had earlier. SHEESH!!!!!!
To no more leaks........BARMEN!

Thanks NativeMainer! That's the perfect drink for me today too as apparently I've leaked out all my white and red blood cells so my chemo was cancelled. Time to drink!

Kim -- sorry your cells went AWOL. I think the DOTD should fix you up though!
Kathy -- nope, there is still a buckled section in my livingroom. And I don't even care. I put an antique trunk on top of it and decided that I'd get it fixed when I feel like it matters. I'm a real "Martha Stewart" type. My family used to swear I was OCD so this is totally out of character! I've managed to keep the house clean through most of this, but that will go out the window too while I'm recovering. Not sure if that's a bad thing! While recovering, I usually only worry about cleaning the areas I actually live in, like the bedroom and my personal bathroom (which I do not share with anyone). I dread going into the kitchen because my dinner is still coming from there and I can't clean it and my family doesn't understand my fear of FBI (food born illness). When I was dating my DH, he and his roommate were planning a party to which my friends would be invited. I cleaned their bathroom and several of the guests asked if they had renovated it! After my lst surgery I had to throw away a coffee maker -- don't ask. I don't think I'll have a problem giving up the coffee after surgery this time, I'll just remind myself that the coffeemaker is a breeding ground.
Thanks for the DOTD, NM. I'll take mine with me to the jacuzzi (which I'm really going to miss). Bottoms up!

OMG...Stanzie I may need some pointers from you, with all that repair work you had to endure. Had the renovator out a bit ago....EVERYTHING has to be replaced. I love that wood floor....such good quality that I don't usually see....well even though it is about a 3x6' area that is saturated and buckling, the entire foyer, hall, living room and dining room would have to be replaced as he said there is no way to match it. The bathroom tile might need replacing as he thinks it is prob wet underneath too. Part of bathroom wall, so there goes the wallpaper I liked that can't be found anymore. Plus the vanity which looks like new, but he said it registered moisture. AND the subfloor. Needless to say, we will have a contractor lined up for when we return and will leave fans on to try to dry the area. We are in SHOCK. This, on top of all the stress this weekend with the *un*natural father visiting my girls.....omg.....instead of lunch maybe I need to have some of those strong leak drinks!!!! And to think this all was caused because the a/c guy that replaced the cut-off valve in the bathroom did not check to see if it leaked after he replaced it. AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wahine.....two things:
- Get a second opinion on the floors. I can't stress this one strongly enough.
- I am thinking of a pitcher of something. Go light on the everything else. Good luck....hoping the second person will have other ideas. - Claire

waheni--I also think you need a second or even a third opinion--that sounds like an awful lot of damage to come from one leak. Or maybe another opinion after everything is dried out?
Look out at the pool, I'm headed there on a dead run, with Sadie beside me. It's in the mid 90's here today, which is NUTS!!!! Not to mention uncomfortable. I NEED POOL TIME!!!
SPLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Lord, do I hate hearing all these leaky/water issues!!! I have been praying for a long, really hard wind/rain to see if we have FINALLY got our roof problem resolved---before we go to the expense and trouble to re-do the family room ceiling for the second time! I can sure relate to the frustration!!!!!
Jocks/Pants/Skate--get those drinks made and pass them out. We also need a good buffet out by the pool. We all want massages, pedicures, manicures. Take care of Kathy first--she's got a plane to catch. And, the gals having surgery--call in extra help if need be! Get everyone relaxed, pampered, and chilled out!!!
hugggsssss to ALL..........BARMEN!!!!

Thanks gals, for all the support! We have a contractor lined up to come out when we return, and then we will see what he says. I agree it is probably a good idea to have other renovators out, but I did see the moisture readings on the thingie he stuck in the floor and walls. HATE to have to rip it all out, but we will see what it looks like when we return. I got to spend some time with my DD and 2 g'kids this afternoon, since they are returning to TX tomorrow. Need to continue working on packing, etc. I love all of you here at the HTL!! We need to get on the bus tomorrow to go and support HD for her surgery.....then on to AStorm to support her on Wed....then I leave for OZ....then everyone needs to support Stanzie for her nips and tatts. And don't forget to have a big blowout party on the 13th for my BIG (OMG) b'day! Actually when I am in OZ on the 12th, it will be the 13th in the US.
Thanks girls!!!!!!

Kathy!!!! Oh you sound like you are in the same boat I was in. So did you get restoration people to come out and bring the huge industrial fans and humidifiers? If not do and try and just get someone to let them in and lock up afterwards. They helped a lot and it is actually good you are going out of town as they need to totally dry out before you do anything and it takes a long time. Then hopefully you will get lucky and find that some of the board will lie back down and behave. Some of mind did some didn't but that helped a lot. Biggest thing is to wait till everything is totally dry. 3 weeks later I still have wet areas,
So, yes I need to replace my main water line from the house to the street over 100 feet so expensive! First plumber said it was too big of a job, second one said they would do it but really expensive! So I agreed basically cause I do actually need water. So just curious I call my insurance co. and they said yes normally that would be covered, however since I have just had a water claim if I put this in then they will drop me!!! 20 years only two claims and this is what they say. Lovely. So I get a call just a little bit ago, my wonderful contractor called the first plumber and they talked it over and he got him to agree to do the job for a lot less!!! I am so thrilled. It means they will tear up the yard but it is soon time to reseed and all so who cares!
Next drama. My good friend comes over to help arrange knick knacks and visit (she is a fabulous interior designer who just won a big award). Anyway, when she comes in she sniffs and I say," oh that is dead animal smell, do you like it?" Well we knew the cat had brought in a little feller but couldn't find him. Then we started to smell things that were not overly pleasant. Then it got a little more unplesent to pretty gaggingly nauceous. But we couldn't find it. So my friend says she will help look. We narrow it down to the Dining Room which has my favorite wonderful "Ball Gown" curtains that are silk and I designed them just how I wanted them. So we have lifted and shaken them and she says what if it is stuck up high above the tie backs? So I get a step ladder and undo the tie back and THUMP! We screamed and screamed! Yep we found the little smelly fella. Well, he had climbed up and must have gotten clastrophobic and panicked and chewed through two places on the curtain then freaked out and died leaving a dreadful stain and even more horrific smell. But we got him out but his smell still lingers along with the awful stain. Called several compainies and they all are quite interested in the story but offer no help at all.
I'd sort of like all this stuff to quit hitting me for a little bit at least. My daughter and I did finally break down and take a "shower" in the well water using the hose which is just so cold it hurts so we stood in the hot tub and leaned over really far so we wouldn't get soap in the pool What must my neighbors think of me - lassoing hoses through upper story windows, dead animal smells coming from the front door and now bathing in the back yard. My Mother would have been either horrified or be laughing too hard to see straight. Sorry if I have repeated myself.....Is the week over yet?

Stanzie we just have to get away from this black cloud over our homes!!! Lets see....I am going thousands of miles away to avoid it...LOL. Cannot believe all that has happened to you in such a short time. No, no industrial fans....since the area that shows up damaged is only about 3x6 or 4x6, and the entire rooms of wood flooring have to be replaced (according to restorer).....he didn't think that would matter so much. He did say for US to leave fans on the area while we are gone. I thought he would put huge fans under the house where it is drenched and puddled, but he said it would dry out, and mold is not an issue. HUH???? Anyway, I guess since so much will be ripped out. Plus the humidity in our house registered real low....the moisture content in the flooring was 38 (putting the meter in a glass of water would be 42). It REALLY sucks! Hard to leave knowing what we will face as soon as we return. I told the guy I would pack up everything, and that may save some on our deductible. Not sure where all the furniture will fit during this renovation though. Thank God your contractor got you a lower price from the plumber! We'll meet our contractor when we return.
SORRY to be so off-topic gals...I know we like to keep things fun here at the HTL....believe me I could stand a strong drink (or several) right now!!! And I wouldn't pass up a good partay! HD, thinking of you today, and wishing you the very best outcome!!!! And as little pain as possible!!! Wanted to get on the bus and be there, but gotta pack, etc. DD and family return to TX today too. I am HOPING for an upgrade on our flt across country....jaybird I need you to put in a good word...j/k! Would be nice since that is right b4 the 15 hr flt to OZ. I will have a puter with me, and will check in whenever I can find a connection! Thinking of AStorm tomorrow and Stanzie Friday (I think it is Friday?)! Keep those parties going on!
*Almost* travelin',
Kathy

Awesome AStorm! Thanks for the Funking Drink!! I hope it helps you unfunk!

If it's worth doing once, it's worth doing twice. Well, that is how I mix a cocktail!

AStorm--I'm with you! Jocks, set me up for at least 2 sets of 2 of those drinks and bring it to the pool please? I need a swim so bad it isn't funny. If it's this hot again tomorrow (90 degrees IN the house) I'm going to come home from work, pick up Sadie and take her to my Mom's and go swimming in the lake!
