Hi Ladies....
Am off to another party tonight. Making pot roast in Winter Ale for my friend Amanda's family. Her husband's birthday, and he took me up on my offer of pot roast to celebrate. Have it a-simmeriing in Hale's Winter Ale. Should be delish.
Could use a shoulder rub from one of those Firemen as did a 40 mile group ride today. Was a bit windy so a lot of work. My body is ready for a bath right now. Also could use a short nap.
Need to get moving on the veggies to have with the Winter Ale Pot Roast, but think I will relax a bit first. Did I mention it was a bit chilly out. But spectacular winter scenery and sunny. Ice was mostly gone.
My friends are bringing the cake. I am whipping up some cream.
Now, that might also appeal to the firement too..... Sounds fun anyway.

First of all, thank you all!!! You guys are just the best and I can't begin to tell you all how much I appreciate your lovely words of sympathy, love and kindness! I'm very touched. Still having a hard time but I'll get there - hopefully I'll be able to sleep through the night soon - I'm thinking a sleeping pill will be in order tonight!

Ok, so I have a seasonal question - who your hardest person to buy a present for this season and why? Of course it is cause I'm struggling with trying to think of something good for about 5 people and I'm just not thinking well this year and can't come up with anything good.The kids are basically easy - expensive but easy. Now the grown ups - yikes!
Now the only other thing I have to do, well besided decorate, is to find all the presents I bought during the year.... I put them in a special place so they wouldn't be found and do I remember???

Got on a weird web site last night.. did you know you can buy vintage clothes from celebrities? Well of couse for gobs on money but you know there was some I can see - Audry Hepburn, Barbara Streisand even some of Carol Channing even though some get odd then Liza Minelli has some off ones but OK, who is going to buy for large amounts of money and wear some of the clothes Cher wore in the old Sonny and Cher hour?? Not sure if I can get those......

Willie got me sooooo laid back tonight I actually started packing! A bit more to go, and will prob just get a couple hrs of sleep, then off to the land of Aloha. I might be able to check in while in flight as they have free wifi this month! Otherwise prob too much $ to use it. Anyway, will have a real Pau Hana tomorrow night....and will be thinking of all of you and sending up a cheer! The party is going so strong I hate to be a party pooper, but right now I am too pooped to pop, so better get some sleep soon. Yup, snuck in some BJ...trying to wind down so I can sleep, but the dealer is hot and I am not doing so hot. Oh yeah, all I need to do is go to the free money machine... *DUH*....I keep forgetting! Yup, had the rest, got the second wind and after a lovely lunch with my dd's x 2, grandsons and a surprise visit at lunch by my DH, a HUGE PARTY at the lounge with all my friends, what more can a girl ask for! I'm having the bestest birthday ever!!!!! and I feel oh so loved by all. Thank you girls you truly are wonderful people to know.

I am doing a day trip today, me and DH are going to see our daughter perform at college. She is going to be in a dance and also singing acapella(sp?), Colors of the Wind. She has such a pretty voice unlike me. I can start singing in my house and all the neighborhood dogs start howling!

In honor of the firemen, I've mixed up a batch of:
Fireman Cocktails
- 2 1/2 oz Smirnoff® Vodka
- 4 oz Ocean Spray® Cranberry Juice
- 2 oz Peach Nectar
Blending Instructions:
- Everything must be ice cold
- Pour vodka into glass, add cranberry juice and peach juice, in that order
- No ice, no shaking or stirring
- If you did it right, you'll understand the name

On the Christmas present thing, I have a number of friends I give wine to. I pick it out at Tasting Room, and they ship it. No one seems to mind getting a great bottle every year.
I also give unique food gifts, such as three-flavors of orzo pasta (chestnut, sage, and I forget the third one in the mix) that I get in a place at Pike Place Market. Really easy to make, keeps for a long time, and a really special side dish. Or packages of local dried wild mushrooms.
The dinner went well, except that my friends forgot the time they told me, so arrived half an hour early. Fortunately, I was dressed and had everything well in hand. I do have leftovers, so have dinner for at least two more nights. All of us had a blast.
Dragging this morning and have decided to do a local 20 mile ride, and not drive anywhere. Will wait for things to warm up a bit though. Hoping still clear as mountains are gorgeous this AM.
I didn't get the endorphins yesterday as a strong head wind, so felt like WORK the entire time. But so glorious and it was fun, other than the slow uphill into the headwind. So hopefully today when I do the 270 degree loop that is also a downhill. Just the most amazing view on a clear day.
As for motivation, you just need to get going. I can't tell you the number of times I have been seriously dragging and then feel just amazing 5 minutes later, once underway. I feel better too. My brain works, my muscles show, my lungs work better, I sleep great. Walking is good, but cycling and skiing work better.

Geeeze Loueeeezee...I step out for a min and miss a hole lotta fun!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! What happened to the bean is that the rad place has mor-den-1 rad rad towns dere in, so bean got invited to a differnt rad town for a zap on Sat!! It was so fun (yeah, yeah) den DH n da bean went for a tour of da CAPITAL bldg in Oly...Holy Moly Oly...I was dere B4 but not DH n it was cold n windy out but friggin hot stuff inside...had a great tour...excelllent volunteer guide...dat bldg is fabulous!!! Den outside, dere was clear sky n U cud C da most gorgeous cascade mountain range in full glory - whew!!! Den to Trader Joes 4 mo aloe vera gel n dark chocolate peanut butter cups...titz are still up n all ready to PAR-TAY!!!

Just droppin' in to say HI, and another HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Chrissy!! And to my doggie Summer - she's 9 peeple years today.
Cool and cloudy here in SoCal . . . s'posed to rain later today. DH is making great progess getting the kitchen painted (we bought paint on Nov 12th . . . this has been going on awhile!). Said I could go out and play with my friends as he doesn't need me to be in the way. Pshaw!! I shall depart soon for imbibement facilities!

Everyone seems to be having a great weekend! Just got back from Berkeley with DD and her friend. Fun, but I like to go with MY friend (who was ill) because we go to foody places and vintage shops while our DDs go to music stores and hang out by the university. We did find a spectacular book store -- 4 stories and lots of used books. I have increased my cookbook collection by 2 volumns and my wine book collection by 1 ("Pacific Pinot Noir" so i can read about OR and WA wineries). It was storming pretty good though so we decided to come home and start a fire and make cocoa.
DH tried to go on a bike ride but got rained out. Hope you got to go on your ride today, Claire.
I think Beanie got into the cat nip again.
Mrsnice - I'm impressed. My DH is not allowed to paint but I have a long honey-do list that never gets any attention. His method is to break something straight away (like the faucet so that the water shoots across the room) and then call a professional. This morning I did get him to commit to helping me take back my garden from the gophers... in the spring. I was feeding the songbirds this morning and noticed that my 4-foot bay tree had gotten pushed over. When I tried to right it, I realized that it had no roots. RRRRRR! I just hope they don't kill the Meyer lemon tree or the apple tree. Pretty much all my herbs are gone and the brick paths are buried in gopher mounds.
Well I'm going to go cook my vegetarian DD something yummy from my new vegetarian cookbook and build that fire. I asked Jocks to start a nice fire for my friends. I'll grab a glass of yummy pinot and see you fireside...
