Well my big exercise today was pulling off the huge sheets of snow covered in ice on all my hedges! I think it took about 40 minutes! Whew! Did I say this earlier? I'm not thinking well..... Supposedly there is freezing mist and in some areas freezing rain - haven't seen any here though but everything is freezing. So wonder if the mail was delivered today? You know that old saying Neither slt nor rain nor.... something... just saw the freezing rain advisory till 9:00am tomorrow. As long as we keep power I'm happy.

Its awfully pretty even if we can't go anywhere which is just fine with me. I just want some energy. Great picture and I'm sure the cake is awfully tasty!!! Happy Birthday to Pants! The news here is pretty funny though - It is such a huge event they just have to repeat it all over and over and over..... I guess they are getting paid overtime.

Stay warm everyone.... Sounds like a nice hot tub night with something warm and tasty - hey how about Hot Buttered Rum! Only had it once but it was pretty great!

Just  finished a glass of Cabernet that I started with dinner...want another one, but I'm so tired, not sure if its prudent....I've been soooo tired lately....told hubby the other day and he said maybe you're not getting enough sleep...I told him I'm sleeping more than I have in years....maybe thats the problem!!!

    Shells...love your surgeon's comment :0

Today it looked gorgeous out...it looked like a winder wonderland....sunny and cold with snow everywher!!!....WE got 8 or 9" of snow yesterday....this morning had to do a once over on the driveway...the cold felt good, but then again, I had my snow pants on...but tonight, I was not about to go out for a walk...in the dark it felt soo much colder!!  Lately, it seems like I have lots of excuses not to walk and too many reasons to eat junk!!!!

Noah started classes today....haven't heard yet how it went....Craig made it to Savannah...flight was about an hour late, but he got in safe and sound....said it was only raining there...his boss finally made it to Atlanta and will drive to Savannah tomorrow morning....a couple other people also didn't get there yet due to weather!!!  Go figure that GA would be having snow!!!

Going to go open a new bottle of wine....Not sure what I have left upstairs on the wine rack....could be Merlot, Shiraz or ?....just poured a glass...Shiraz it is!!!

Glad to hear the Junie is on the mend....will look forward to a post from her..

Thats all for now.....sweet dreams and a good Tuesday for all :)

I'm with Beanie about the ketchup... I've been AWOL and missed FOUR pages! Had one of my 60-hour work weeks last week, which didn't end until 2AM on Saturday. Slept most of the day on Saturday and didn't even want to look at my PC... until I remembered that I have friends in there... now I'm going to read every word of those 4 pages because you guys are so funny!

God bless you, Junie! Can't believe you managed to stop by. We are all holding our collective breath. Hope you are comfortably numb so you can relax and heal.

NM - Sorry about your Granny. If it seems impossible to imagine a world without her, just remember that she will always be a part of who you have become (I believe that is why we inherit DNA from our parents).

Kathy, Lori - I think we may need a case of Fukitol.

Nice job with the pews, Lori. And I lost my desire for snow in Michigan too. We lived near Lake Michigan when I was very young. Left there as a child and don't miss the snow one bit - especially since my bones hurt when I'm cold now! I'm pretty tired of scraping ice off my windshield but I can't imagine shoveling snow in the wee hours... don't think I want to go to work bad enough to do that!

Dorothy - I had hot flashes for awhile... I think caused by tamoxi-fun. Onco suggested taking another pill, which I wasn't inclined to do so I found "hot flash cocktail" online. It's not as fun as a lounge cocktail but I don't have hot flashes now... of course the weather has cooled off too - who know? Anyway it looks like this:

    Hot Flash Cocktail

    • 400 IU vitamin e (mixed d-tocopherols)
    • 500-600* mg calcium citrate with 400 IU vitamin d
    • 200 mg magnesium citrate
    • 500 mg vitamin c with bioflavonoids
    • Omega-3 fatty acids (equivalent of 360 mg DHA & 240 mg EPA)
    • Take AM and repeat in PM

    * A nurse told me that the human intestine can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time and only up to 1000mg per day so I only do 1000 mg.

Or you could try this one... it sounds like more fun:

    Hotflash

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker full of ice. Shake well and strain into a collins glass full of ice cubes.

I do question the wisdom of a choco-roof with so many women around... But I LIKE that cake!

Claire - wow! They sure made your friend look hot! Bet she's not as frumpy as that sweater suggests though... Cute about the husky. What is the opposite of a husky? Cuz that's what I am. "The weather" makes me pull the comforter over my head and hit the snooze button.

Heather - bummer on the beer ickiness... maybe it was food poisoning? I usually blame it on the food anyway. Good think we have this lounge as an alternative!

Kathy - is there melatonin in Irish Coffee? If so I think it qualifies as a Super Food, right up there with broccoli and blueberries!

Hunkydory - the IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION just goes in a shoebox so you can free your hands for double-fisted dog beers...  bring the shoebox by the lounge and I'll file your returns for you... of course I'll be inebriated when I do it... hope that's ok.

I'm missin the Bean  and her Beanglish too...

Do I see milk and cookies... or maybe I'll grab a glass of shiraz with Karen and head for the Jacuzzi...

Kathy, you ARE a naughty one! Wink I wish you could get pics of all the different snowmen. And Stanzie, I hope all that ice doesn't cause any problems. I remember one we had in MI, it was REAL bad. Transformers were blowing left and right, but it shore was purdy!

Astorm, welcome back chica. If I were you, I would just read and not worry about trying to play ketchup! Just roll with the current flow! As for doing so much work, we have to actually go away. If we are home, we are working. If not for the business, then in the house or outside. Allthough, not much going on outside right now! I like the 2nd Hotflash, better than the first. But I do take all of that stuff. In fact, I think I rattle when I walk! Most are to be taken twice, like you said, I am doing good to get them all down once a day!

1-11-11 What a day! Maybe we should have 11 different drinks.

I'll start with number 1. A Tequila Rose Smoothie make a Tequilla Rose Smoothie ( for 21 Years and older )

First add ice cubes to the blender. Add 1 cup of milk. Next add some tequilla rose drink to the mix. I would add half of a big bottle if you are serving a few people (and we are). Turn blender on and mix all the ingredients. Add ice if needed. Wait untill mixture is smooth

    Hi Girls,

Last night was great fun, sorry I passed out on the floor. I fell asleep before Pants got out of the tubby, I am wondering if you girls saw his stuff lol. Really, it was great fun and I am also glad to see all you girls coming out to partay!

I am thirsty...hmmm, I think I will have option 2 dotd, thanks Goldie, that is yummy.  I will talk to my onc tomorrow about the dotd 1, aka flash remedy.  Mine were gone for the longest time, then I got my first period since beginning the tamox early Oct and now I am flashing like a wild fire.  I can strip down from many layers to bear in no time at all and put it all back on just as quick.  Now that is saying something considering I am just two weeks post op.

Here is hoping that Junie is doing well and recovering from her surgery.  I was so happy to hear the latest update and hope to have her back here to share the fun.

I got word today that I will return to work on 1/31. I will miss getting drunk in the morning so today, I will start my daily binge drinking.  And I will embrace watching my fav tv show, The Price is Right......DorothyK, come on down!!!!! I have dreamed of being on that show for over forty years now.  Gotta go and mix a drink and turn on the TV.  And I am still in my fluffy robe awaiting the beginning of another blizzard! Ah, the life of leisure that bc has given me.....

To all, have a funderful day and drink up, now!!  Cheers and titty's up, way up!!!

Hi girrlzzzz! And WB Gail!!! I wondered where you were, and missed your posts!! Thanks for the reminder about the calcium....I knew that for years, but still just take it once in the am....now maybe I will listen to you! Gotta take that at night too!!!! I take most of the other stuff, and like Dorothy, I can strip down burning hot in a minute, and then just as quickly will get cold and put it all back on. Sheesh!!! No, unfortunately the melatonin isn't in the Irish Coffee! I just mentioned it to help some gals sleep, but then had the Irish Coffee to keep their "butt in gear" during the day! LOL.

Stanzie, Why didn't I pay more attention when you mentioned getting the snow/ice off of your shrubs? SOme of our trees look very grotesque now, bending in half with all that heavy snow and now ice. I don't worry about the shrubs as much, but these tall trees (evergreens not diciduous) look like they might break in half soon. Are you going to have low temps all week too? Wonder when all this thick stuff will melt and we can safely get around. Also wonder if the papergal will deliver all the papers at once, whenever we can start getting delivery again? Hope the kids aren't driving you crazy with cabin fever!

Well, Auburn won the championship game last night. Now AL (from what DH told me) is the first state to have teams that had the heisman trophy winner AND won National Championship, two years in a row. Since BAMA had both the heisman trophy winner and won Nat'l Championship last year,, and Auburn this year. We really are BAMA fans and hated cheering for Auburn, but in this case, it is just too kewl to have both teams win like that! HD, did you and your DH watch that game?

Thrilling Tuesday Toast to Terrific Tatas!!!!

I too am in the hot flash pan. Not too often and when I'm awake it isn't so bad it is when I'm asleep since I sleep with so many covers and pillows trying to get them all off wakes me up then shortly I'm cold again and the routine continues. I too take all those pills but just in the am so will try some in the PM as long as I don't overdose myself.

AStorm - so happy to have you back. I agree not to try and go back on everything but most of you all are so much better at it than I am. I love what you said to N M. - Very sweet!

Kathy - love your little wicked sense of humor- Goldie too!

We are snowed in today - wonder if the roads will clear for tomorrow. We obviously still have power so I'm happy! Should be getting stuff done but instead I'm hanging with the kids and watching movies!

Kathy, Congrats on the championship, that is awesome.  And reason to celebrate Cool.

I lost many of my shrubs in 2009 with ice storms we had. It is a good idea to get the weight off them. Mine would previosly bend but not break but I did loose them after one too many storms.  I hope that the electric stays on for all of you loungettes. Snow here is supposed to begin in a few hours.

So I was thinking about calling an HVAC person to fix my body's thermosdadt.  I will let you fellow flashers know how it goes!

Lori - I've noticed a pattern with people who run their own businesses... they are always working! When I first started my consulting biz, DH commented on my "flexibility"... I said "yes, I get to choose which 100 hours I work each week!" But to be honest, I think it is a personality type. I just have to keep moving and I need to feel productive. When I do watch a TV program, I pop up at commercial breaks and clean something! I suspect you do the same no?

Dorothy - oh, that lump was YOU? Good thing I stepped over... Hope you win big on TPIR.

Kathy - sweet little bird photo. The others made me cold though! On our walk last night we noticed about 20 cedar waxwings all in one tree. I've never seen these in our area before -- we mostly have sparrows, nuthatches, finches, chickadees and an occasional bushtit in our yard. Took a picture but you can't see them so I borrowed some:

apparently they hang out in groups... maybe this is their lounge?

     up close...

Brrr, Stanzie! Here's something to warm you up:

    DOTD #2

    Warm Bourbon Cider

    • 1 gallon fresh apple cider
    • 5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 3 cups bourbon
In a stockpot, heat apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. When mixture is hot but not boiling, remove from heat and add bourbon. Stir to distribute spices and divide cider among 20 mugs.

I like the 11 cocktails idea! Who's next?

Gail, What beautiful birds...I have never seen one of those (or not close-up, so didn't recognize)! DH just went to inspect our tall backyard trees...at least 1 30' Leyland Cypress is split in half so will need to be cut down, and a tall cedar has split in half too. Hope no more damage shows up! I have lots of 20-30' tall leyland cypress' which give lots of privacy. The tall magnolias are ok, and the deciduous trees so far seem ok. Love your warm bourbon cider....is there a "tree damage drink"???? Or one that won't make me cry seeing the broken trees?

Yikes Gail, That was a hard week for you. I don't want to lose any dogs this week....trees can be replaced. Actually all but two trees were here when my mom first moved here....and she planted so many that I would have a hard time counting them all! Used to look like a football field, and now is pretty lush. Although I hate to lose any, and since I don't have the green thumb that she has, I am trying to keep our home looking as nice as it did when she had it. Not doing as good a job though! Love your monkey in the tree cocktail! Yeah, 3 shots might stop the tears! Lets see...how many more DOTD's do we need today? Nine?

Girlz, sorry about posting such huge pics! Didn't mean to take up so much room!

P.S. HunkyD, Do you like my avatar???

Oh Kathy - I know about those trees - have lots of them and they do not do well with ice and snow. So far we had enough wind to keep the branches clear. Just got the word and no school again for the kids! For my kids school that never closes it is the first time to be closed this long since 1973!!! Wow, a long time ago!

It is more that the temps just haven't risen so at night everything re-freezes. The kids just got picked up by my ex. It was fun having the kids home with the snow and such and the best part not having to get up at the crack of dawn for the kids!!!

Saw a video on FB where the cars just couldn't get up this one hill. But every time the cars went up they all came down the same place and ran into each other the count before the video finished was 20 cars! All hit the same place! The people kept yelling and telling cars not to try it but obviously they just wouldn't listen. The weird part is the people kept opening the doors and putting their feet out like they could stop a car then the people kept falling out. It was the strangest thing - If it wasn't real no one would believe it. If I can find a link I'll share it.

     Stay safe and warm everyone!

Great pics Kathy.  I love the snow-a-saurus. And I REALLY like the drunken sock monkey. Maybe I will make a snow angel tonight, it is coming down hard and heavy. Still not sure what to expect as far as accumulation. I sure hope we do not get hammered as I have my six month follow up with my onc tomorrow at 9:45am.  My DD has kind enough to run to the grocery store as Old Mother Hubbard's cupboards are empty.

A-storm, LOVE your avatar, what a cute little puppy doggie! And I like yours too Kathy, very cute lil monkey.

I am heading to the chapel for a quick prayer then the rest of the night will be dedicated to partying. I am hoping Pants shows up tonight, I think he is embarrased that we all saw his manhood lol. Oh, there he is.  He said massages for everyone, come one come all, don't leave me alone with him, that could be dangerous! ParTAY on, girls.  And tits up.

Just bopping in really quickly, just finishing a double shift, going to head home very shortly.  Gram is now unresponsive and on morphine to control pain.   Won't be long now, I'm afraid.  Hoping for a snow day tomorrow, otherwise another double and I'm already bushed.  How many drinks are we up to for 1-11-11?  I'm too tired to do more than a quick and easy Sombrero--1 shot Kahlua, fill with milk or light cream.

OK, the other instructor is almost done so I can start locking up and head home.  Nite, nite loungettes!

Hi gals....so sorry for your pain NM.  I can try to drink 11 drinks for you, eh?  I would be a sorry mess tomorrow.  Hard to work and have all that with granny on your mind too.
I, like Lori said to somebody else, am not going to try and go back and try to respond to everyone.  I will just say it is cold here, and I do not care for it.  I am headed for the party where Dorothy has landed.  I loved the sock monkeys I know you knew Kathy.  I don't have much to update other than I don't have to go back to PS for 3 weeks and no more syringe pulls.  2 more days of antibiotics.  Yahoo!
Dear Number/Tax lady....can you tell me how someone who has met their catastrophic medical limit for the last 3 years still can't beat the standard deduction?  We can't itemize anymore.  Maybe I needed more shoeboxes, or, maybe I am ignorant.  OK, I'll drink to the latter!  Let's start this little hat dance and have a few toasts for Junie.  Hi to all...nobody left out....schmores, HD!

I know HD all about this one.  Haven't done the math, but the problem is usually too much income.  Since I got slammed when an end client decamped, I just might make it this year.

So sorry about your grandmother NM.  Also hoping for a peaceful passing.

For those of you snowbound, enjoy all the magic these times bring.

Got one major piece of work out today with another one on its heels.  Soup is a-souping.  Made another pea soup this afternoon, as was in the mood for it.  Think I will get some red wine.

And join the PAR-TAY after my walk. - Claire

p.s.  Please apologize to Pants as I may have been responsible for the whole manhood incident last night.  I don't what came over me.  Perhaps, too much of a good thing (in the Mae West sense) recently.

NM...I am sorry to hear about your grandmother....Grandmothers are such special peopel...My grandmother was such an important person in my life...my mom sent me a picture of her the other day....it is the most gorgeous picture of her....not sure when it was taken, but my grandmother was young...she was so beautiful..no wonder she won Miss Old Orchard Beach when she was married and pregnant with ny uncle (and she was from Montreal)!!!!.I said something to my mom and she said she was beautiful inside and out!!!  How true.  My grandmother passed away in 1999 and I still miss her.

Think I'm getting a cold or a sinus infection...my nose feels like it is running, but its not and just feels weird....also have  a headache...I guess time will tell....need to take some ibuprofen and musinex...and go to bed relatively early...I've been soooo tired lately....

The DOTD all sound so good, but don't think I could get any down my throat....I'll just have to be boring and stick to my red wine.....already had a glass of Shiraz tonight and will have another one later on....

    Junie....how are you doing today?

OK, about the tax deductions... you almost need to "own" a home to have enough deductions to itemize, meaning a bank owns your home and you pay them a lot of interest, plus you pay property tax. Also helps if you have a high State income tax (i.e., you live in California). However, there is another approach to health care cost (rather than itemizing) - the Health Savings Account (HSA). If you (or DH) are employed and have a group policy with a high deductible, the employer may have this set up. You contribute pretax dollars (or if you have a generous employer, they may contribute as well) which you can use for medical expenses. If you are self employed, you can establish an account for yourself (and spouse/family). The money you put into the account reduces your income. You do have to use the money for qualified medical expenses, or pay a penalty. It isn't like the old "Flexible Spending Accounts" where you lost money left in the account. If you have funds left at the end of the year, you just leave it in the savings account until you need it.

Karen - I think you need cranberry juice and rum for a sinus infection... yeah, I think that's right. When we were in St. Croix on our honeymoon, DH cut himself on coral when we were out on a sailboat and the inebriated captain poured rum on the cut and told him that alcohol sterilizes. And I'm sure you are familiar with cranberry juice... Try this:

    Malibu Bay Breeze

    • 1 part coconut rum
    • 2 parts cranberry juice
    • 1 part pineapple juice
    • Stir well, pour over ice.

Astorm - because we are self-employed, I am curious.  If we did an HSA, would we still get the insurance company negotiated rates which are much lower?

  • AStorm
    AStorm Member Posts: 1,393

HSA doesn't affect your insurance at all. You would just use the funds that you put into the savings account to pay your portion. Check out this link: http://www.hsabank.com/hsabank/Education/Limits.aspx

(there are other banks offering this type of account, but this one explains things really well). And if you are self-employed, the contributions to your HSA are also pretax for self-employment tax (as well as income tax).
