real red stripe lol........i know what tou mean about "blech" and US beer.......the only thing thats better beerwise on your side of the border is corona.......ours is gross!!!!!
hey your lab rescue!!!!!! babe was a black lab that we rescued too.......we got her when she was 7 and really neglected........she was so smart she jingled sleigh bells with her nose to go outside! she lived till she was 16 and its funny i didn't want this big honkin dog at the time and i was the one that wound up the most madly in love with the thing!0 -
Have you girls read Marley and Me? It's a sweet, quick read about a lab. I enjoyed while recuperating.
0 -
Yep, labs are very devoted. Katey is "my girl" (when Jason stays over it's evident that Sage prefers him and Katey prefers me) but Sage is very loyal to me. She's very protective. And, she loves red wine! I have to watch that girl! I cannot believe people abuse dogs but Sage came from a bad place. I took her to a holistic vet and got her all fixed up (she was lame in one leg) and now she's just a happy dog! She was underweight when I got her, she then porked out but then stablized around 60#.
Perhaps your Corona is the same as our Corona? All I know is that American beer sucks! I'll drink micro brews but any mainstream brand name I avoid! Oh, I SO miss the European beers! When I would go to Paris (or wherever) the highlight was dinner at night with a good beer (from Germany or Belgium). Ya know, America is a great place but it ain't the end-all. (am I gonna catch s**t for that statement?)0 -
Lini, I'm afraid to read that book as I just know I'd cry! Did you cry? I love dog stories but hate endings, KWIM?
0 -
I did a cry a little. It really was heartwarming. The dog lived a long, very full life.

ha ha janis.........Canada is good for health care, chicken wings, hockey and beer! oy yeah and taxing us till we bleed!
0 -
Shel, the way things are going here taxes are startu=ing to get to us, too. Now, while we're not as taxed as you and Frqanc and and and my local tax is 6.75% and some towns are 7.25% and I think the city of Chicago (anyone correct me if I'm wrong) is now 8.25%. That's everything but food. Food is taxed lower. Now CA doesn't have a food tax but their tax on goods and services are higher. It's crazy. We're taxed and taxed and taxed ans still have to pay a lot for our health care which varies from company to company and from state to state.
Sorry, got off on a tangent there! We should be talking about alcohol but I'm one of those Americans who've traveled all over the world and don't think that this is the greatest/only place to live. Guess I should make those comments on The Debate board?
Okay, tonight it's red wine. But just a little as that 7 a.m. appointment (with the good-looking but married oncologist) will be here before I know it! Last time I went I had my cotton beanie hat on and now I have hair! I don't normally lust after married men but he is nice!0 -

I did look at the book at the store but wasn't in the mood for a dog story. I cried at that silly movie the other night so there's no way I'm gonna read a sad (okay, mostly happy but kinda sad) story about a dog. Maybe next year?0 -
did anybody ever see "my dog skip".........good god it was inhumane to make that movie.......me and mike cried so hard that we threw it out after we watched it......no joke!
and janis.......i've noticed when i shop over there that your taxes are going up but especially your travel taxes yikes!!!!! (but still cheaper than flying out of canada) here we pay 15% on just about everything and about triple that on beer cigarettes liquor etc. but waddya gonna do right?0 -
We're not allowed to have that movie in our house.
0 -
What are ya gonna do? I guess cut back on other things (food, clothing, etc.) so you can still smoke (if that's your thing) and drink (also, if that's your thing).

I'm not sure if I ever saw that movie. I do remember "My Life As A Dog" which has nothing to do with dogs but was a good movie anyway.
Is anyone here going to see the Oliver Stone movie about 9/11? I want to see it because he always does a good movie.
Luckily I got out of NY the night before and had the pleasure (???) of seeing it all on the tv the next morning. Oh, I was SO worried about my other flight attendant friends (some work for AA & UA) and actually got through to NY and was able to speak with one of them before all the phone communications went down. I was based in NY for a long time and lived in Queens so this is all so close to me despite being a Chicagoan.0 -
lol.........i used to work overtime once every 2 weeks but those days are gone so now we live on bread and water.......totally kidding!
i am in the process of quitting smoking though and its rough!!!!! i wonder what i'll weigh when i'm done with this little adventure? i just stuff my face all day (with veggies and decent stuff) but i'm still eating waaaaay more than i ever have.0 -
Shel, I've decided that if I want to drink wine with dinner then I don't have dinner. I've cut back on actual 'meals' and just snack now. So, wine and cheese before dinner becomes dinner. I don't look or feel thinner but I know I'm consuming less calories!0

It's still too fresh. Not sure that I'm ready for that just yet. Talk about tears and fear. That time was so surreal. My husband had flown out to Florida on 9/10. He took the first flight out on the following Saturday, or maybe it was Friday. He said there were only about 30 people on board. That was a long week.

janis? how come you aren't a flight attendant anymore? i would love to do that. i hope you don't mind me asking but it sounds so glamourous.......nursing is less than glam so i'm always curious about others professions.
0 -
Janis. Did you ever do a commercial for the airlines? Your face looks really familiar.
0 -
Lini, no, no 'commercials' or anything else but thanks?
Shel, I was furloughed (laid off basically) three years ago. You get 5 years of furlough time to be recalled and if you are then great but if not then you're S-O-L!0 -
man that sucks..........mike had a job with air transat......it lasted less than a year and he was back to puddle jumpers.......it didn't pay the bills so he had to go back to multimedia/marketing crap and HE HATES IT but now he's too old to ever get another piloting job.
i hope you get a callback.........you'd be a riot on a flight to cabo!0 -
Shel, believe it or not I was a 'good girl' on my flights! Truly. Really. I take my jhobs seriously. Now, I did have some fun but I was NOT a sky mattress!0
-
lol janis i just meant you'd be more personable and easy going than some flight attendants i've encountered. some are a great experience.........others are sticks in the mud (as i'm sure comes with any and all professions, mine included lol!)
nightie night.......good luck with the doggie, i gotta go and water my new plants then crash.0 -
Reminds me of a story on a flight back from Chicago, it is only an hour from boarding to landing...my friend was denied a drink, too many pre-boarding, but we knew the the flight attendant and she made sure my friend behaved so the rest of us could "catch-up" What a fun hour on board.
I respect flight attendants, as they have to know know how to kiss a$$ in the air. Similiar to the restaurant business.0 -
Did anyone hear a news story yesterday about cancer and alcohol? I only saw the tail end of the blurb about their being a connection--and don't see anything about it today.
0 -
Like if you have cancer you're more likely to drink? (j/k) Didn't read it but then I don't read anything serious nowadays.I'm tired of "this is good for you, no wait this is NOT good for you".....

Hey sistas -
Janis - Marley and Me made me laugh out loud! It's so funny! Yes, sad in the end, but it's definitely a great read.
Had the "girls weekend annual pool party" Sat at friend Denise's house. Honestly, I think the older we get the wilder we get. Denise's DH said it sounded like "Middle Aged Women Gone Wild". Maybe we'll make a video. NOT! All five us NAKED in the pool together in the middle of the afternoon, no privacy fence.. our mantra "We may all have to get older, but can stay immature forever" certainly rang true.
Denise said all her neighbors are old and blind and not to worry about it. Guess nobody minded too much, as the cops never showed. Drank lots of beer, and some new rum. (or new to me anyway) It's made by Bacardi and has tequilla and lime in it. Quite tasty!
Oh! Almost forgot! One of the girls brought Mr. Stud. Nothing gets a pool party going like a blowup doll. (Like we needed any encouragement.) Susan, who brought Mr. Stud, drove him over seatbelted in the passenger side of her convertible!
