Lini- I know. I was just making a comedic response to my "hairy" situation. I know that it is probably not even visible in the pics. It is barely visible up close. Although, since I had a tram flap, I did tell the ps to stay above the pubic line for the donor skin. He did.

How does drinking, beer, affect chemo? I have an appt. to find out what my ONCO Type score is tomorrow. All of this is new to me, too. I had a mastectomy, DCIS, HER2+ and will get either the chemo, depending on my score, or just the Herceptin and Arimidex.

Shel-I just figured that since "what ever his name his tonight" is a pilot that you had easier access to the rest of the world than the rest of us.

lol lini.......i do actually however i'm pretty uptight in the little 6 seaters! actually come to think of it, i have really irrational fears that i never had before BC!

last summer i'd have never thought twice about hopping on the bike or flying with hobbie boy........now i'm really tentative about these things!

anybody else get a little bit of the heebi jeebies after BC? i'm curious now!

Different kind of heebi jeebies. I can be really superstitious. Like when I was pregnant, I couldn't wash all the new baby stuff until after my baby was born and safe at home. Now I don't like to talk too much about BC odds and stuff like that. I have panic attack issues every now and then. Usually I can't even pinpoint why I'm having them until after some "event" occurs, but I have noticed it is related to PMS. Had serious PMS, eating, bloating, heart palps. and no period. Can't figure what's up??

Hi Lisa, welcome here, I think most of us have found we didn't think about or had the taste for any drinks during tx. Some have been advised not to drink during chemo, but it was the farthest thing from my mind. I knew I was feeling better when I thought about...hhmmmm.. a cocktail
    sounds good.

shel, I got way "braver" is that a word? Anyhow, I would finally get on the back of Mark's Harley, after 2 yrs. I went on every scary ride at 6 Flags. I figured if I can do chemo, I can do this and I want to experience it all as scary as some things may have been before. You are being cautious, like a person who might have survived cancer then was hit by a car. Like that song, by Jewel, "Isn't it Ironic."

Hey Lini, your Bday is two days after mine! I'm stuck drinking wine coolers until I get off the blood thinners! But shortly after our BDays I plan on celebrating with a real drink!

Hey Cheryl- see by your email on your profile (looking at your b-day) you're involved in Pampered Chef. I love some of their stuff. I am in the restaurant biz, but cook at home, even for just myself. My fav thing to do is cook dinner, while enjoying some wine.
I have gotten some awesome PC products. I love the wet/dry measuring cup.Fun stuff!

Hi Lisa - my onc said a glass or two of wine (or beer) is fine as long as you feel up to it. I never drank the day of chemo or the couple of days afterwards, but did drink some during chemo and did fine with it.

    Cheryl,
We'll have to meet up in here on your birthday and celebrate. Early though, I'm scheduled to have my expander surg. on the 7th, so that days out and so is the 8th cause I'm sure that I'll still have my OnQ pain pump keeping me mellow. Never did meet a Scorpio that I didn't like.

I didn't feel like drinking during my chemo. I still have an occasional drink but less often now. I too have tried to eat better and not put on so much weight - I could loose a few pounds anyway. I do know that when I started researching factors that contribute to breast cancer, alcohol consumption was listed but it was quite a few drinks daily. I would warn anyone be careful if you are going in for an oncology check as a few drinks the night before will mess up your liver function test and you will have a very upset oncologist and might end up with test you don't need (Personal experience here)

Ok confession time. All durining chemo I drank the night before and the night of treatment and never once did my liver funtion change. The nurses kept telling me I was one of the strongest patients they have seen, oh if they knew the crap I did durning treatment. Oh well I'm still here and NED so far. Who knows. I do know that after my hysterectomy, I'm going to slow down on drinking only cuz the weight, oh my god the weight.

Anyhow that is my confession and i'm sticking with it.

But I might add, that I think maybe all the extra drinking did contribute to me getting BC. But then who knows.

Seriously don't think that the drinking did it. My mom and aunts never drink and they got it. I only started drinking again about 7 years ago. By again I mean glass of wine or beer with dinner. More only on holidays and vacations. Crap shoot, I tell ya!!

    Randi,

Do NOT feel guilty about drinking - before, during or after BC! I didn't drink during chemos as no type of alcohol tasted good but I was told that I could drink as long as I didn't over-do it. I figured I'd listen to my body as I'd hopefully be back to normal fairly soon and I am, I'm making up for lost time! The bar is open! Cheers!

    Hi All
While I was on chemo I got 1 bottle of muscadine wine each week from the local winery. My onc wrote a rx for 1 oz prn nausea.I forgot to add it was free.My youngest daughter went to work at the same winery during my treatment and the lady who owns it sent me a whole case for christmas last year.i dont know if that was what helped or the Emend but I only suffered from nausea one time during 9 months of chemo.
I love a good glass of wine and a cold beer on occasion. So had to come over and talk with you ladies a bit.Hope you dont mind.

Just checking in to see who's up to what. Last night it was Chianti Classico for me. I think it's one Mich Ultra tonight. I have an early mammogram and chest x-ray.

I just started watching "Dying Young" with Julia Roberts. I know what I am in for. I saw it so long ago, before I knew much about cancer, if it bothers me, I'll turn it off.

Welcome Robin, this is by far the "funnest" thread on the board. OK, maybe the mojo thread is good, but I don't have alot to contribute there. lol

Okay, I'll bite. Why "merv". He'll be fine. Take an ativan and those heebie jeebies will be a distant memory. Merv-merv griffin?? Mervyn-cute, in a nerdy sort of way??

Oh, 2 buck chuck, Trader Joe's Charles Shaw Vineyard, 1.99 a bottle.

"i need this, i don't want that"......."i'll do it myself......no wait can you help me pack the saddlebags"

i am going to take an ativan though........i've got this wierd feeling of doom yikes!.......i don't think it helped when he showed up after work tonight with a new 500 dollar razr cell phone because his "didn't hold a long enough charge".............pissed me right off, and now i am superstitious about getting into it witth him before a road trip...........i geuss i shoulda started drinking earlier lol!

I used to get that way before every vacation. Even cancelled stuff when I was younger. I don't do that so much now. Hate F-in anxiety. Dang $500 phone. It must be special. I'd be PO'd too. Let it go for now and then when he gets back, don't say a word, and go get yourself something that you've really been wanting.

    Hi Cheryl,
Redlands. Daughter is in C-bad going to school. We'll be in SD Labor Day wkend for a soccer tourney. Any restaurants that you might recommend? The bureaucrats took over my favorite Mexican one in Old Town. It's now run by DNC and has horrible canned food.
