DorK-shhhhh, don't tell the others the secret about being the DOTD poster, the tatsing and drinking is fart of the pun, hic, oops, part of the fun! The interview went well, at least from my point of view. Now it's a waiting game. Gee, where have I heard THAT before????

Goldie-I have looked at many roller coasters and never got up the nerve to get on any one of them. I'm curious about zip lines, though. May have to find one to at least look at. Of course, at $50 a trip it better be SOME trip!

Wahine-aren't the over 50 discounts fun? I love my AARP card, it's amazing home many places give 10%, 15% or even 20% when you flash that one! Can't wait to qualify for the "old age discount" for the over 55's that exist around here. Discounts are GOOD!

Stanzie-tornadoes AND lightning strikes to worry about---YOWZA! That is scary! Are lightning rods popular in your area? Or do they still make them? I think the interview went well. The kids-the staff are all a lot younger than me-asked some good questions and had some very legitimate concerns. I'm even more hoping to get the job now that I've met some of the staff I'd be working with. Time will tell.

Morning, AStorm! I'll let you in on a little secret about the DOTD: I go to a couple of sites that list drink recipes and have a search function, stick in an appropriate word and see what pops up. If I don't see anything I like I pick an ingredient, find a good drink with that in it and rename it! Shhhhhhh. . . . .

Kymn-sorry about the possibility of delays, but remember, the whole chemo thing is a balancing act to give as much of the medication as possible without killing the recipient. Delays are the norm, even if working through chemo isn't. You are strong, you will deal with the delays. But I know it's hard.

Beanie! Vodka outta the laptop? Gotta be a story behind that'un! Let's see, tip check list: #1. Best smile? Check and LMAO! #2. Cool and hardworking? Check and giggle, giggle. #16. Cry. Hanging my head, didn't work this one in. #14. eye contact? Yup, even though there were people on both sides of me and my neck is sore from swiveling! Don't act bored-not a problem, lots of "war stories" told! Pweeettyy Pweese? Check, even worked in how I want to work for this agency even more after getting services from it! Weird being interviewed by the nurse that saw you naked and changed your bandages! And I slept like a baby last night-up every 2 hours to pee and drink!

Claire-Yeah for getting the files back! I reset my laptop last weekend and had to reload Office, and some other stuff. In the process found out my DSL modem isn't working well, the replacement arrived yesterday and is tomorrow's project to set up. Gotta love technology! A Question for you-Do you really think you can control your RBC count? You are aware that the medical team is DOING this to you by giving you chemo, right?

Karen-I think the interview went really well, thanks for asking! It was funny when I went to leave the conference room so the group could talk about me and both the doors were locked! They had to call someone on the other side of the door to come open it! I couldn't resist asking if that had any meaning!

Come on in, Husker! Sleep is vastly overrated I've heard, although I do like to get mine! The taste buds will come back when the chemo is done. A couple weeks after your last chemo drink a really hot cup of coffee or tea or plain water and burn off the mutated taste buds, normal ones will grow in quicker.

Boy has it been busy in the lounge! Getting to be a full time job keeping up with everything! But such a FUN job!

The DOTD is going to be a bit of a challenge today, methinks. Hmmmmm.

    Aha:  The Busy Day Drink

    4 oz White Rum
    5 oz 7 Up

Stir ingredients together in a highball glass.

I read tornados as "tomatoes"....geeze and its only 7:30 am....does that mean I've had too much to drink already!!!! and I'm only drinking things I can see through!!

Love the comment about sleeping like a baby.....that sure applies to me.....never thought of it in those terms and I've had 3 of those (babies, that it)......I wonder what people will say if I said I slept like a baby last night....think they'll be jealous?

    NM....love all the pics....

Welll its Thursday so it means no work today.....well no paid work.....today is house cleaning day ......going to attack the kitchen and a few other spots in the house that usually get ignored.  a para that I used to work with and friendly with, is going to help me clean.....so it will be girl time chatting and cleaning....kind of like "whistle while your work".....

Kymn and Kristy.....good luck with chemo today.....one more notch to mark off.....Hugs to all.  Karen

Yeah! I'm posting right after NM! First time ever. DH got up at 5 and DD2 needed to get up at 6 to finifh an art project, after which I couldn't sleep... was going to take WD for a nice long walk but it's raining so we'll go later... unless we need a nap.

NM - your DOTD tip reminds me of the movie, "Waitress"... the leading actress bakes pies to match her mood or what she is thinking about and gives them crazy names. I meant to post this on pie day:

Pie #1: Blue Plate Special I DON'T WANT EARL'S BABY PIE or BAD BABY PIE - Quiche with egg and brie cheese with a smoked ham center (later referred to as BAD BABY QUICHE PIE by old Joe)

Pie #2: KICK IN THE PANTS PIE - Cinnamon spice custard (Today's Special)

Pie #3: I HATE MY HUSBAND PIE - "You make it with bittersweet chocolate and don't sweeten it. You make it into a pudding and drown it in caramel ..."

Pie #4: SPAGHETTI PIE - has at home with husband

Pie #5: MARSHMELLOW MERMAID PIE - From when she was in her mermaid stage. Pie made for Dr. Mueller, and given later in the appointment to Dr. Pomatter. "Biblically good!"

Pie #6: FALLIN' IN LOVE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE PIE - made for Dawn

Pie #7: BABY SCREAMING IT'S HEAD OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND RUINING MY LIFE PIE - New York-style cheesecake, brandy brushed and topped with pecans and nutmeg

Pie #8: PEACHY KEEN TARTS - made for Dr. Pomatter

Pie #9: EARL MURDERS ME BECAUSE I'M HAVING AN AFFAIR PIE - "You smash blackberries and raspberries into a chocolate crust."

Pie #10: I CAN'T HAVE NO AFFAIR BECAUSE IT'S WRONG AND I DON'T WANT EARL TO KILL ME PIE - "Vanilla custard with banana. Hold the banana ..."

Pie #11: SPANISH DANCER PIE WITH POTATO CRUST - Joe orders at the Diner

Pie #12: NAUGHTY PUMPKIN PIE - brought to appointment for Dr. Pomatter, but unexpectedly with Dr. Mueller. Dr. Pomatter unexpectedly out of town with wife

Pie #13: STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE OASIS PIE - After Joe orders this one and Jenna tells him that it's just a pie: "Just a pie! It's downright expert. A thing'a beauty ... how each flavor opens itself, one by one, like a chapter in a book. First, the flavor of an exotic spice hits ya ... Just a hint of it ... and then you get flooded with chocolate, dark and bittersweet like an old love affair ..." - Joe

Pie #14: PREGNANT MISERABLE SELF PITYING LOSER PIE - "Lumpy oatmeal with fruitcake mashed in. Flambéed of course ..."

Pie #15: LONELY CHICAGO PIE - Teaches Dr. Pomatter how to make this one

Pies #16 & #17: CAR RADIO PIE and JENNA'S FIRST KISS PIE - These are pies Jenna's mom used to make that she fondly remembers.

Pie #18: OLD JOE'S HORNY PIE - Jenna states she is going to invent after a saucy story from Old Joe.

well, shoot! Karen and Hunky jumped in there while I was making pies... well now that you're all here maybe you can help me with those pies. I think they'll be great for breakfast with the DOTD.

     #10

... Baby don't you cry gonna make a pie
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle... THERE now we can all have that song in our heads for the day...

I like #7 cuz it has Amaretto...

Baby Screamin' Its Head Off In The Middle of the Night & Ruinin' My Life Pie

    4 8-oz. cream cheese, softened
    1 C. unsalted butter, softened
    1 1/2 C. sour cream
    1/2 C heavy whipping cream
    1 3/4 C. white sugar
    1/8 . cornstarch
    1 fl. oz. amaretto liqueur
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    5 eggs
    1 egg yolk
    1 C. chopped pecans
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Bring all ingredients to room temperature. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Wrap outside of 9-inch springform pan with foil. Generously butter inside of pan. In large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Mix in sugar and cornstarch. Blend in sour cream and whipping cream. Add amaretto and vanilla. Stir in eggs and egg yolk one at a time, mixing thoroughly between each addition. Pour batter into pan. Place pan in another pan at least 1 inch wider and add water to outside pan (prevents cracks). Bake on center rack for 70 minutes. Turn oven off and let cool with door open for 1 hour. Remove cake from water and chill at least 3 hours before removing cake from pan. Top with crushed pecans and dust with nutmeg.

Hi Karen and Gail! Nice reading both of your posts. Karen, when you two finish your house, can you come help me clean???? Pwetty puleez???? Gail, Some of those pie names are soooo funny! Just caught your additional post, Gail. That baby screaming pie sounds delish! So nice and sweeeeet, just like I like them.

YAY...HD is in the bus!!!! Sawwry to hear you still have snow.....yikes that is a long winter....but isn't if officially spring? Bus is nice and warm for you, and full of likker!!! How ya doing?

NM, So great how you can comment to everyone, with appropriate pics too! Amazing! Yes, I do love discounts, which is why I shop online almost exclusively. And I love ordering things at Lowes for store pickup, as then THEY get it all together for you....saves lots of time and aggravation. Kohls is great when you have a CC, as you can always search online for the best discounts, and get free ship codes (only shop when that is avail), and no time limit on returns. Don't have an AARP card anymore, as my DH did not like what they support, so we cut them up. No probs though as I can always search online for the discounts. Never would have thought of white rum and 7-up! Wonder if its really good? OK, someone be the guinea pig and let me know!!! Love how you always get the neatest DOTD's!!! And hoping and crossing fingers, toes, and eyes, that you will get that job! Sounds like a purrfect fit to me.

Hope everyone will have a MAHVELOUS day today! I have lots more outside work to do on the deck.....before it may rain tomorrow. Glad for nice, sunny weather, and will enjoy it while it lasts. Kymn, we are there with you, holding your hand! And Husker too.....hope things will go well.

BOTTOMS UP, TITZ UP, BUS IS GASSED & LIKKERED UP!

    Kathy

Bet Beans is also waking up to fresh snow.  The mountains here are just stunning, and only a couple degrees above freezing here next to the Sound.

NM.....no, you don't control your RBC.  I did some iron loading, and ended up with too-high ferratin as couldn't be absorbed while my bone marrow was getting hammered.  Which is why you start to drag big time.  I have a graph of my RBCs during chemo, and it could be a chart of my energy levels.  It came back to low normal during Taxol, and of course was fine once chemo was over.  So I found the effects of AC cumulative, but not Taxol.  I had a ton more energy during Taxol.  By the end, I couldn't wait to be done, but because I was really sick of chemo after 5 months of it.

Enjoying looking at the mountains through my super clean windows.

Good luck with the rest of the reload NM.  I can't wait to get my VAIO back. The great news is that it all will be fine in a day or 2, and I will have my files backed up. - Claire

Good luck to all the girls in the bus. This is my off week. I'm on a two-week schedule, so back on again next Friday. A gray day this morning and I was up at 5:45, doing laundry. UGGH. I am NOT a morning person, but the steroids do give that jolt of energy, so...there I was. Maybe Saturday I can sleep in past 7:00 am because it has been a week now that I am up an hour or MORE before the alarm. WAH...not fair. But at least the sleep I do get is uninterrrupted.

Before I get back to the kid bz here at school, perhaps a Bloody Mary? It has vitamins and veggies, a celery stick, an olive. Should be just the right kick to the day.

LMAO at you girls....what a hoot! Dorothy, me thinks you are right about Kathy, and I'll leave it at that. LMAO. I don't remember anyone not liking your DOTD? But I'll help hunt em down.

Astorm , I couldn't even imagine trying to teach a child to drive in CA! It scares me! We are heading out that way next Friday. And how sweet of you to make those pies, YUMMMMMY, thanks! Laughing some more at the "keep your knees together" comment. Awww Husker, sorry you couldn't enjoy your wine in pizza. You will, in time. And there is no such thing as being late to a party, especially here at The HTL....IT ALWAYS A PARTY!!!  Oh dear NM.....drinking something hot to burn the tastebuds off? Too funny. So glad to hear the interview went well. You WILL get hired, it's just a matter of who is lucky enough to get you! Good to see you my little Twinkie! Kathy, we just got a grill at Lowes too, DH got $100 off on it. One with a smoker, it will go in the Shady Lady Hotel. I drink rum and 7-Up, but because the 7-Up doesn't have the caffeine in it to keep me awake.

Well, I am at work this morning posting, could NOT sleep last night.  Finally fell asleep sometime after 1 am and of course I had been up since 5am, and then got up at 6 am today....grrrrr! Thanks all for noticing the new avatar, been wearing my hair curly as it is SOOOO much easier. Grabbing my DOTD and thinking of Kymn. Oh Kymn, you watch ANTM.....I thought it was nice they did a shoot in honor ofBC. Alright I better go, before I get fired..............oh ya, that can't happen, I am owner!

    Stanzie,

Sorry to provide the boring RBC answer--not nearly as fun as yours. RBC means Red Blood Count, WBC=White Blood Count. It's what they track (one of the many) during followup blood work. If RBC is low they add often add iron through protein, iron pills, etc.

Not pie day today, just being silly... offering some sweets to Dorthy... love it that you don't know what "rbc" means, Stanzie... my vocab is just full of acronymns since my dx. I was talking to a friend the other day and almost refered to hubby as "DH"... I like "racy butter camouflage" and from now on whenever I see RBC I'll think of that!

Lori - tis good to be Queen! You're probably the best boss you've ever had -- I know I feel that way!

ran out of Valrhona yesterday so I guess I should get dressed and go to the store... must not run out of booz or chocolate...

Stanzie - great idea to add the zip line to the HTL, yippee a new place to "hang." And what a wonderful idea, I think it is pie day! Hummm, AStorm gave us so many good ones today and now that all the birthday cake is gone I'm gunna think about some vodka pie. he he he he! Darn that's not me, it's the keyboard again, still trying to wring out all the vodka (j/K). At least my keyboard dint geta cat on it.

Kymn - Love the zip line, that's so fun!!! Does take a bit of psyching up to go back in for another chemo, wishing you an eeeezzzz time of it today! Hey, can you see us all being so quiet and small in the corner? And Junie brought a ball of foil to make us all giggle.

AStorm - I once hada client whose wife was selling one of those pyramid scheme kinda make-ups. I bought a whole bunch of it and it was awwwwffffuuuullll! The foundation wouldn't go on smoothly, so there was no way to avoid streaks, the mascara was clumpy, the lipstick sucked and it all had some kinda fragrance that kicked up my allergies...needless to say it all went in da twash...I pay more for Lancome but always get a good product that doesn't cause me to sneeze and cough and gag. Glad U liked the interview tips...I beeen on a interview and it sux! I hope NM gets thru this with a sensa humah! Goldie - so you think Dorthy is right about Kathy too? I was gonna let her off the suspicious hook with her "just felt sorry for me" story, but now I'm wondering again. Don't say grill, don't say sun, don't say anything that sounds like summer fun cuz it's still winter here, oh I'm so jealous of your weather.

Well I'm off for a Busy Day Drink and a Baby Screamin' Its Head Off In The Middle of the Night & Ruinin' My Life Pie while riding the zip line and burning taste buds! Cheers!!!

    Beans....

No, the skis are staying put away as everything is clean and my fugly boots almost aired out.  It should be in the low 50s for the Daffodil Classic on Sunday.  But chilly and wet.  Probably will need to turn the heater all the way up on the trip back!

Will probably get a lot of use out of the red jacket though.  Everything was either not warm enough or a dark color except for my ski jacket and cycling windbreaker.

Everyone......  Beans is right.  All of us waking up to fresh snow are a trifle testy re: grills, swimming, sunbathing, summer clothes (wearing double ply cashmere turtleneck), tropical drinks (thinking something warming).

My sister sold one of those cheapo cosmetics lines for a bit.   Guess what I used to get for Christmas???  Had forgotten how evil-smelling the bath products were, and the lipstick colors were quite garish.

It really is cheaper to buy what you need of one of the good lines.  Plus you wear something that really suits you.

Should have my VAIO in a few hours.....Can't wait, and think better to lay off dwinkies until software is loaded. - Claire

Ok, Claire -- who likes to try on swimsuits anyway? I once weighed 110 and I'm 5'7 and even then I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. Give me a cashmere turtleneck any day! I was examining my neck the other day and wondering how I am going to get away with wearing turtlenecks every day once the sagging becomes too much to bear. Maybe I should live in a cooler climate instead of a beach town. Or I could just drink more...

Came in for some water...sooooo hot out there and I have using the wood plane, sanding, painting, bondo-ing, sanding some more, caulking....I am a HOT MESS!!!!! Will be sooo ready for happy hour when it gets here, and wonder if I can get away with kidnapping Pants again????

I say just drink more Gail! Hmmmm..........being the Queen, I can drink at werk!

My weather is very unpredictable at this point. Super windy again to day and they are calling for snow. So no need for jealousy.

Ya Beans, I'm thinking Kathy is not as innocent as she is trying to make herself out to be........I can recall quite a few riske' comments coming out of that mouth of hers. Or should I say off the tips of those fingers. Maybe her keyboard has whiskey in it. Can't think of her brand off hand.

Must be the Seagrams, Lori! My fingers seem to have a  mind of their own....maybe my alter ego? Cause surely "I" would not think of anything risque, now would I?

I am SOOOOO tired. Just poured a Seagrams/Diet....just a tad early. BUT I have worked outside the whole dang day. Took a big fat splinter outta my finger yesterday...and only reason I had to come in for a bandaid is it was dripping blood into the primer.....pink primer would not have worked! LOL. So after happy hour and shower, gotta go to Lowe's for paint.....had DH pick some up last night, and I don't like the color...my fault, I picked it from the teeny chip I had at home.

Well, Here's to all you galz here, my sisters and my breast friends! *Raising my glass*!

Dropping in for a very large drink.  No, a pitcher of drink.  No, a barrel of drink.  This drink:

Take Tnis Job and Shove It

10 oz. Rye (Hudson brand has great spice to it, but if you don't want to go so high-end, Jim Beam rye works well in a pinch)
4 oz. Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
    4 oz. Barenjager honey liqueur
14 oz. lemon jasmine tea (or any other citrus tea if you can't find it)
    3 oz. sugar
    4 oz. orange juice
    4 oz. red grapefruit juice
2 oz. lemon or lime juice
    4 dashes orange bitters

Add the sugar and hot tea to a punch bowl and stir until dissolved. Once cool, add the other ingredients and stir. Add ice cubes to keep it chilled at the last minute

I very nearly told my director to shove my job this afternoon.  Am still not sure I won't on Monday.  I do not deserve to be treated like this.

If I fall asleep in the hot tub, just turn on the bubbles and let me float away.

Stanzie - it's ok, you can talk to me... my left cheek now weighs 110... well, kidding, but I went from BMI too low to "that's overweight" (Wii) ... mostly it crept up on me but the past year has been brutal (I blame tamoxifun but it could be that I've been enjoying life, which means enjoying butter and carbs and that I am technically middle-aged though I hate that term).

NM, now you've got me wondering if this is one of those made-up names... but if I have one of those I just might be in that frame of mind! It seems that every time I need to move on (quit a job or fire a client), the universe sends me a message. Once I was working for this $%^*! CPA firm and on my way to work (on Friday) I was listening to Todd Rungren's "Bang the Drum"... and belting out "I don't want to WORK!..." when the car ahead of me stopped abruptly and I slammed into it. I didn't go to work. And I gave notice on Monday.

Dorthy - glad you like the pies. I make the best darn apple pie in three counties (got a ribbon to prove it). Wish there wasn't so much butter in there... all my neighbor's have accused me of trying to make them fat cuz that's my neighborly thing -- new neighbor gets a pie, sick neighbor gets a pie, nice neighbor gets a pie, mean neighbor gets a dog pie... (we believe in recycling here on the left coast).

I been good today, took care of my family's every need and made yogurt and dinner. Time for some wine!

Dorothy, Kymn, and any others that saw Am Idol tonight...I won't give anything away in case someone has not seen it yet, but I am STUNNED. I never vote, so can't complain, but this was depressing....anyone else feel like the wrong one left?

Gail, so funny about the "dog pie"and you believe in recycling! OMG thats a riot! How nice of you to make so many yummy pies though (except the dog pie!). Yup, time for wine....actually anytime is time for wine, or beer, or likker.....

Beans, thats right....don't get blue cause of the snow, just come here and hang out and enjoy the purrfect weatherr....always!

I am hoping it won't rain tonight or tomorrow, so I can paint. Think we'll be going to the casinos on Sun for a couple of nights, so lots to get done before that. My parents will be here in less than 2 wks....and sounds like they are doing much better than the prognosis a few wks ago. Junie, can you join us in Tunica on Sunday????

Enjoy the evening girls! Time for a nightcap!!!!

Not quite there, but what is taking all the time is transfering files back on my computer.  So should be good to go.  Otherwise, a frustrating week, but at least not when I was under a major crunch.

Glorious evening here with sunshine and CLEAN WINDOWS.  Still chilly, but not like this morning.

NM.......you will get there.  Just so frustrating, but looks like you are getting to the right place.  Patience is a virtue I don't have, so understand where you are coming from.

    Did anyone say pie????

I am making a chicken paprika.  Good chickens were on sale, so bought one a couple of days ago.  Lots of onions and peppers, paprika, etc, then the jointed chicken goes in.  It cooks for a bit over an hour, then you finish with a bit of cream and more paprika.  Usually a bit of flour to thicken.  Serve with noodles.

I bought six bottles of wine on the way back from my wine, plus onions and grapefruit.  So got in a bit of weight bearing exercise for the last third.

I also use butter and also olive oil.  I believe in real food.

I have been there with toxic job situations.  One was so bad that I thought chemo was a better deal.

Can't wait for some Riesling which I though would go great with the chicken.  May have some cheese first though. - Claire
