LOL Junie, I love your post!!! "Hairless chi-wa-wa" is priceless. Good way to put some fun and laughter in this crazy journey. As far as "passed-out girl", well, you know it isn't ME cause my butt would be much bigger...lol. Oops....guilty parties here....I think that DorK was going to keep Pants busy and NM and I were taking turns with Jock...is that right girlz? Thank goodness for the Wenches!!! Glad they filled up your ice bucket....looks like you are all comfy now. But you do look strange with just 1 1/2 eyes (keeping half an eye on us)! Hate it that you had a freeze.....my DH has had a small garden planted for a few weeks now. Today was cold....in the 50's but will be back to high 70's and low 80's soon. Wish it would stay that way all summer, cause when it gets into high 90's or 100's with 1000% (at least) humidity it is hard to do ANYTHING outside.

Dwink up chicas......looks like Auggies party is winding down...those little doggies need their beauty sleep ya know. So, expecting DorK to pop in anytime. How was the doggie partay?? Ciao down!

    Luv ya', drinking buds!

    Hi LadieZ,

Having a glass of white wine to relax things after my hot bath to soak my whole body.  Ride was glorious, and I did see tulips.   Have pix to upload.  Slow start, as was rainy in the AM, and the thought of getting on the road to drive an hour in the pouring rain to get soaked for 40 miles was hard to get past.

But I got there, and only a short shower or 2.

Was snowing in the mountains a few miles away, and quite windy.  As in I had to grab my handlebars to keep from getting blown over windy.  You didn't want to allow too much time at a stop or you would cool down and freeze.

Stopped for some fresh oysters on the way back and slurped them down.  YUMMY.  No good veggies, so didn't buy anything.  The cheap place in Bellevue is now open, so will stock up there.

NM.....you simmer or steam artichokes.  I am talking the normal sized ones, not the baby ones.  You cut the bottom flat, and trim about an inch off the top.  Then you put in a veggie steamer, or in a pot with about 1.5 inches of water with a bit of olive oil in it.  Steam or simmer for about 45 minutes.  The outer leaves will start to fall off when they are done.

You eat from the outside in, and the soft inner bottom of the leaf is delicious.  Don't eat the part that looks like a thistle (which is what an artichoke is).  That is the bud.  They have gorgeous blue flowers if left uncut.  Underneath is the bottom which is super delish.

They are almost no calories plain, but most people eat with mayo/butter/vinaigrette so you can consume a lot of calories eating artichokes.  The same deal as lobster.

I still need to cook mine.  Also the rhubarb which I just adore.

I am on the lookout for nettles.  Some people pick them here, and I think better than spinach.  Wear gloves to pick.  The sting goes away when they are boiled.  I boil, drain, and finish off with a bit of butter, salt, and pepper.  If you know someone who has a good nettle patch, they are FREE.  So are dandelions usually free.  Nettles have a lovely nutty taste.

Hmmmmm.......forgot about fiddleheads.  Although Main Squeeze accused me of serving him "bracken" when I made them for him and a friend.

My weight is up a couple of pounds, and I can't blame Arimidex......try gluttony.  The other reason I have to cycle.  I would be the size of a house if I didn't.   ChAIRZ!!!!! - Claire

Wahine, Great idea n the white noise. I actually have a white noise machine at school that I use to filter sound so that kids in my outer office (tiny waiting room) can't hear the conversation in my main office. Don't know if I will make the trip down to get it tonight, but it is tempting. Will get tomorrow for sure, when I start post-steroid treatment.

Am watching 127 Hours on DVD. Gonna need something strong to watch poor James Franco cut his arm off! Any ideas?

Where's Kymny tonight? Are you doing okay, my friend?

Hi Risque Whiskey, I am home. The ride to and fro was something else with the rain coming down so hard, the entire highway was flooded. I drove both ways, DH had more to drink, I kept it at two since I was driving. I prefer my driver over his. The parTAY was fun, always a great time with my sisters and their families, lots of laughs.

Good to see you Junie, and no, that was not me you saw earlier. I think it was Beans passed out. Let's make up her face! Anyone?

Claire, fiddleheads, bracken, nettles, huh? I have never heard of either. I am so retarded when it comes to "odd" food. I stick with the basics, don't do artichokes either.  Glad you got a good bike ride in and glad you were not blown over. You know I would have laughed, I can't help it.

So anyone here? Just made me a strong one. I am here to stay!!

Bottomz UP. Fat bottoms, skinny bottoms, round bottles, I mean bottems, up up up up, like our tits or in my case, TIT.

    Cheerz!

Funny story I heard today.  Was talking about my experience and a woman on a tandem with her 10 year son (she called him her "stoker" ) and she mentioned a friend who had BC.

Prior to being diagnosed, the friend didn't even eat chocolate.  She had been so careful all her life and chocolate was on the forbidden list  Following chemo, they noticed the lady was eating chocolate, and asked her why?

Turns out the lady now understands that eating the "perfect diet" comes with no guarantees.  She is now out there with a vengeance exploring all the things she has missed out on in life.

    A major lesson learned.

I am now on to red wine.......still need with chilly temps here. - Claire

OH, was today your DD's party?? How did it go? I tink u need a nighty-nite cap....maybe a strong one after being w/ so many little girls all day.

OH MY, I am so sorry Husker, I did not see you in the lounge when I typed. It taka me alonga time-ah to weed.I hope you enjoy your movie and have a good night sleep. Drink up and pop some fukitols. The great think about a fukitol is that you can take as many as you want!! And drink too.

Kathy, Im already ahead of DH *smile* ,

I know where Kymn is. She is in the corner sucking her thumb cuz my Flyers kicked some Boston butt tonight, literally. Oh I love the fire in my boys. If they lose, my boys just start beating on the other team. I love when they fight. Hope to see both our teams in the playoffs, would be uber cool.

It is so wild here weatherwise. It has been thundering and lightening on and off since happy hour The wind is ripping and it is still pouring.

Claire, I could go for some chocoate. I passed on icecream and cake tonight. I find both addictive.

Damn I have no chocolate. Skakes? Can you get me some fine chocalate? I think we could all use some.

Awww, lovely buffet! And nothing like a mimosa to start the day...well off to church and will see ya later for more dwinkipoos.

    buffet

    How about

    THE RAMOS GIN FIZZ

Invented in the 1880s by Henry C. Ramos, in his bar at Meyer's Restaurant, this is one of New Orleans' most famous drinks. The secret of its flavor and texture is orange flower water and egg whites. When Huey P. Long was governor of Louisiana he brought with him to New York's Roosevelt Hotel the bartender from the New Orleans Roosevelt to train the NYC bartenders on how to make a proper Ramos Gin Fizz, just so he could have his beloved New Orleans gin fizzes whenever he was in New York. Yeah, sure, every man a king ...

Orange flower water can be difficult to find, but is available in better liquor stores or Middle-Eastern markets. You can mail-order it from Fee Brothers, and in New Orleans you can also obtain it from Martin Wine Cellar or Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits.

Be EXTREMELY careful when adding orange flower water to this drink! It can very easily overwhelm, making the drink taste like perfume. You want a light, flowery touch, so no more than 3 or 4 drops.

    • 2 ounces gin (Old Tom gin if you can get it)
    • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
    • 1/2 ounce lime juice
    • 1 ounce simple syrup
    • 3 small dashes orange flower water
    • 2 drops vanilla extract (very optional; there's some controversy over whether this was ever really used, but it does add a nice touch)
    • 1 ounce cream
    • 1 egg white
    • Soda water

Shake all ingredients except the soda water WITHOUT ICE very vigorously for at least one minute, preferably longer -- the longer the better. Then add ice and shake for 1-2 minutes, as long as you can manage, until extremely cold and frothy. Strain into a tall thin glass, or a very large old fashioned glass, and top with soda water. Stir gently. Modern variations include adding a few drops of orange bitters to the frothy foam atop the drink, or something even more exotic like a tincture of cardamom. This is not the traditional version, though.

    Here's the inside:

    bottle

You can see Jeannie inside with her Mimosa and Ramos Fizz!

She looks a little mad, like her Mimosa was full of cat beer!

Wahine-have you compared the cost of renting a car when your parents are around to the cost of insurance, repairs, etc? It may end up costing you fewer $$ by renting. Insurance is taken care of, no repair costs, no registration costs when you rent. Depending on how long your parents are in your area renting might be an answer.

DorK-How did the dude loading your car react to being called Pants? I bet it was funny! Happy B-Day to Auggie! I signed up for a free pedometer from my insurance co. but I haven't seen it yet. I need to get one that works relatively well so I can keep track of that. Somehow it just kinda brings out the competitive side of me, "I bet I can do better than that tomorrow!" attitude. Never thought about putting it on the ceiling fan, tried putting it on the dog's collar once, she shook it right off.

Stanzie-nice pics! What I do is put up the thread and word side-by-side, type out my responses to posts, copy and paste onto the board, then insert pics after. The Drinking Thread morning routine takes me about an hour, which is why I don't always get it done on mornings when I have to get out the door to work. Keep plugging away at it, it falls into place eventually!

Beanie-WHERE do you buy the dog beers? I've never seen that around here, ever! I like the puppy on the label, too.

Husker-Somewhere I saw a speaker that was designed to put under a pillow for nighttime use. IT was round and flat. I'll have to see if I can find one for you. And the tenders come around periodically and cover up or lug off passed out loungettes to comfy sleeping places. Or they just bring out more hammocks, pool floaties, or whatever else we are getting low on.

Junie-I don't remember anything last night after finally getting into the hammock that kept dumping me out, which made all you other ladies laugh so hard beer came out your noses, so that's probably me! What did I miss?

Claire-thanks for the cooking lesson. Got artichokes on my grocery list for next trip!

My cold has taken a decided turn for the worse. Throat hurts, coughing up green gunk, can't sleep lying down, stuffy nose and ears, feel blah. No fever, though. Drinking enough to waterlog an elephant to keep things moving, playing hookie from church this morning, sucking on the inhaler every 4 hours. Probably need to see the doc tomorrow. Sigh. I'm soooo unhappy to have a good reason not to go back to campus tomorrow. Raining hard with really gusty winds here today, 50 degrees at my place, cooler up north. Glad I don't have to go out in it. Sadie WON'T go out in it!

For the DOTD I present to you all The Wiener Dog:

    1/2 oz Dark Rum
    1 oz Gin
    1/2 oz Lemon Juice
    1/2 oz Maple Syrup

    Directions
Shake and strain into a champagne saucer filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a split cocktail weenie.

Morning All!!!! Well thought about this site last night. Went with a group to see the play here in town - Auguest:Osage County - will All local actors - a seriously dysfunctional family at its best or would that be at its worst! There is a certain perverse glee in seeing other families unravel to see that ours are not as bad as we thought. Anyway, the husband drinks, the wife is on pills and then the daughters drink, and it goes downhill from there with a missing person, suicide, claw hammers, incest, cheating, surprises, anything that is not politically correct, and breaking dishes and china.... Oh, it was the drinking that reminded me of you all - not all the OTHER stuff!!! Goodness. It was all Schadenfreude!

Anyway, fun, fun night but boy am I tired. On NM don't tell Claire as it involves calories but when I made artichokes I boil them and serve with a mixture of mayo, red onion and red wine vinegar - basically to taste and it is very yummy!

NM - well, I tried the whole word thing and did put it on word but the copy and past just gave me a small question mark in a blue box. Hmmmm? This site isn't happy with me for something....

I think the picture of the comfy swing looks like it should be pointing at the other window which looks like the ocean....

OOK, so I want a Jeanie bottle to go hide in and I'd be alright even if I didn't get the right drink and while we are at it - I want to look just like Barbara Eden, Ok?

The Gin Fizz sounds terribly interesting - I've had one before but obviously not the "REAL" one. Can't imagine the frothy egg whites but I'm certainly game to try!!!!  Happy Sunday- Palm Sunday so race you out to the hammocks under the swaying palm trees!

I did all their nails with a french manicure and diamonds lol it was beautiful then presents and cake and pooof 3 hours done and off they go. then clean up begins I should have just had Pantz round someone up for that cause I was pooped.

Kymm.....thanks for backing up my "snowing" story.  It was snowing in the Mt Baker foothills about six miles from where I was cycling yesterday.  So were white on top.  It wasn't all that warm cycling either.  You could see the snow clouds hugging the ridgeline.

I am making myself some yummy scrambled eggs, then off for another ride.  Suspect I will see more snow a few miles away, but sunny and glorious out.  Got in church this AM, so have that one covered.

NM.....hoping you don't have the bug I had.  Laid me out cold.  Good news that it didn't really hit until you had locked in your new gig.  I would go in tomorrow and make sure I spread it around as a parting gift.

Need to get going and get in some sunshine.  Will join later for drinks.  Butt muscles protested on the way to church, but think I will be just fine cycling.  Happy, happy Sunday!!! - Claire

Hey Jeannie (as in "I dream of")....I might call you that instead of Beans! Went back over your pics from yesterday....they are all soooo funny! And yeah, that is neat to say "ChAIRS or Chairs" too....I think it may have been HD that said that first, many moons ago....or was that you junie, or Lori? Sorta a variation of cheers....damn we have creative girlz here!!!! We really do, seriously! Well if Pants makes me that Gin Fizz dwink with the egg whites I would LOVE to twy it....but too much work for meesie to doosie. Looks ono though!

And NM, oh my the time you spend on all your pics and comments! We really appreciate it, I hope you  know that! Yes, good idea about the rental car for my parents, but usually they  stay for 2 mo, so that would get expensive for them....although all the costs of maintaining our car for them were on us! Hmmmmmm...might have to consider that...nah.....j/k! Her car should be here within a week, which will be nice. Thanks for trying to find a soloution, though!

OK.....is everyone REALLY ready to partay big time??? I have a huge bottle of champange chilling right now, and I am sure the HTL is well stocked too. We rented our townhouse to the first person that saw it today! WooHoo....very nice lady and she absolutely loved it. The  couple that came while she was still there thought it was beautiful and that we weren't asking enough rent! SO, been doing that all day, and just came home and will need to do the credit check, but feel it will be excellent. And she left a big deposit too.Only had the sign up for about 3 days, and ad hadn't hit yet. Hope to have such luck with the condo next month when that gal moves out. Will be leaving in a bit and taking the champagne to my parents lake house and enjoy it there! They leave HI on Tues to come here (Wed am), and my mom has been twiddling her thumbs as she can't wait to get here.

So, lets get this PARTAY STARTED!!! WooHoo....I might even limbo if that evil stick shows up. Come on galz, celebrate with me!!! Dwinks are on the house (so bring a ladder).

    ChEARS! Chairs!!!

FINALLY, having a glass of wine to calm the complaining butt muscles.  I was pathetic walking to the supermarket an hour or so ago, to say nothing of church earlier today.  That didn't keep me in though and actually had brilliant sunshine once we got past the hail.

    Quick note to y'all..

Kymn, hope you aren't too achy after your little nap under the hammock. Sorry!

Dorothy, Snowed Friday, gone on Saturday. That's Nebraska weather. 48 degrees tonight and a little nicer day tomorrow.

BTW, I'm going back to my Bailey's Choc Mint again. That stuff is too good. And a little goes a long way. I need a lil somethin' for the Jacuzzi, as my body is a little achy tonight. A little drink, a little dunk in the hot tub, a little night music...and a FULL MOON!!

Careful girls, could be a crazy night. Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite!

PAR-TAY!!!!    I'm late getting to the party--lifting my ML to toast Wahine's parents heading back her way!!!   Have a great visit with them!!!

Super Sunday night and almost Monday work day for some of the lounge lizards!    Had a fairly nice, but windy day--but, damn--another awful storm system heading this way for Tuesday.   That last one just about did me in and it did awful things from OK to the Carolinas.......what a massive system that one was.     Am seriously considering checking into putting one of those "tornado proof" closet things in our garage.    We have friends down the street who put one in their garage (she grew up in Okla and is terrified of tornados)------but, don't want one like they have.......it is in the ground under their garage; so they have to move a car out of the garage to even get into it--and it is soooo small--barely holds the 2 of them and their cats.     grrrrrr---always, something to stew about!

Question----Claire--anybody????   looking for a simple recipe for home made tartar sauce.   I've found a few that I've tried and not crazy about any of them.   If anyone has a really yummy recipe, pls PM me!!!!!

Several of NM's always right-on-the-mark picture posts perfectly described "dog beers".......that all started when I saw a tee-shirt that ref'd "dog beers" and I thought it was hysterical--cause now, when I reference having a dog beer, I'm talking about 7 !!!   I think, way back then, Lori found a pic of the t-shirt and posted it.   I may have to order that t-shirt, as I've had so much fun with my "dog beers"!!!!

Trying to coordinate a trip for DH--to Carlsbad, NM, to see his mom--she is in last stages of Alheizmers but is still living at home, with care being given by a cousin who lives next door......No way am I up to the trip whether we fly or drive......so, trying to coordinate with my DD as to when school is out and she and her two youngest girls can come down and "babysit" grandma!!!!

hooooo-raaaaaay!   My bucket o'beer is iced down and perfectly cold.....heading out to the hot tub---'cuz someone posted about hot tubs and it drew back a sweet memory from my "previous life" that was so clear, it was like I was re-living one of those perfect moments.......

Downhill ski trip in Colo with a big group of friends from work.   Tired, wore out from the day--but we all put on swim suits and hit the hot tub--drinks in hand--and the drinks were sooooo good; and the hot tub was so perfect; and the company was wonderful.....and, it started snowing.......within a few minutes, all our hair was white from snow/ice.......a magical moment in time........I think we all got a wee bit smashed because I remember getting out of the hot tub in the snow--drying off and pulling on some sweats and some snow boots and heading back to the condo--we fixed dinner and kept drinking.....and the magic just kept happening!!!!

It is amazing what one reads that triggers a memory--whether good or bad.     OK--finished now--out in the hot tub and loving every second!    My favorite hammock is empty and is gently swaying in the warm breeze......(I traded snow/ice/cold for sun/sand/palm trees  a lonnnggggg time ago!    Another thing of interest to me--how we change and evolve over the years,,,,,,

yep!!!  have had some dog beers tonight!   later, dear lounge lizards!!!

Kristy, You are getting me craving the Bailey's Choc Mint...have never had it but it sure sounds divine. Yummmm. Enjoy some for me???

Kymn, One of my drs (PS or BS) told me I wouldnt' be able to go in hot tubs anymore, and I thought they meant for good. But now I wonder if they just meant till I recovered from those surgeries? Wanting to get rid of ours anyway, as we dont' use it outside. Used it a lot when it was in the sunroom at our last house...so convenient and could still see the stars thru the skylight. Plus water that hot gets me tooooo hot anymore. But I need to find out which dr said that to me, and what they really meant! Congrats on your team winning!!!

Junie, junie, junie, what can I say? Can picture you those yrs ago, in the hot tub in the snow, dwinking! Must have been a blast. You have the most interesting stories! Hope you can coordinate DH's trip to be with his mom. So sad that she has gotten worse. Thanks for the toast you had for my parents! SmileAs far as simple, I think when we make tartar sauce we just use chopped pickles, chopped onions and mayo. But I haven't made it for years. For salmon I like to just add lots of dill and some onions to mayo, no pickles.

Well, had to critique a 19-pg document someone needed me to read TONIGHT. And now to do a credit check on our new tenant. Have my bone density scan at the hospital tomorrow. Lori, when are you coming back home??? Can't wait to hear about the fun you had with your g'kids!!!

OMG it is already Monday!!!! Just after midnight, but...sheesh is came early. Where did the weekend go? Hope everyone has sweet dreams tonight, and I agree with Kristy....don't let the bedbugs bite! Used to be just a saying, but seems like they are going rampant everywhere. Yikes! Nighty-nite Girlz!!!

My DD and SIL and my parents arrived today.....I wasn't the best hostess, as i spend ALL day in the kitchen....was cooking by 8 this morning and went non stop till the news came on at 10pm....My knees and feet are sooo sore!!!!  The kids went to the Rockies game for about 1/2 the game then came home and napped....My mom went out with Miriam for a couple hours....Dad slept....Travelling is really hard for him.  He is not doing well, but I don't want to make any comments to mom as it stresses her too much...I don't see any difference on the Aricept.  He peed his pants on the plane (poor person who gets his seat next!!)...He was in row 12 and it was too far to walk to the bathroom...he was wearing a depends (mom says it was the first time he wore one), so he just peed his pants....he was soaked by the time they got to my house....Dad went to bed right after dinner....

My kids are awesome....DD told me that she had a package mailed to the house...didn't think anything of it as shipping is expensive to Canada...the package arrived the other day....it was from Israel...still didn't think anything of it, but did tell DH that thought DD ordered something for us.....As soon as DD got to the house, she goes into her room, then comes upstairs and hands me to boxes and says this is from your 4 kids....they got me a new sedar plate and matzo plate to match.  I've been wanted a new sedar plate for a few years now.  I told my DD that my next trip to Israel, I was buying a new sedar plate...well she picked one out that is gorgeous....it is similar to a couple pieces of glass that I bought on my trip with her....and get his...she had been planning this with my younger DD....DD #2 said to me...do you know how hard it was to keep a secret....so when the package came, she knew exactly what is was....

Back to cooking....2 different soups, gefilte fish,  boneless chicken breast with almonds, mashed potatoes, crispy cauliflower, roasted root veggies, 3 batches of cookies and one batch of brownies...the frig is jammed pack....and the downstairs frig full of fruit and veggies.....Most of the cooking is done, just need to put up the turkey in the morning before work...hadn't been able to find a turkey till this afternoon....had already cooked a turkey breast, but my DH, SIL and parents love the dark meat on the turkey....so turkey breast is cooked and in the freezer, and now have the huge, 15# turkey....will put it up and have hubby take it out of the oven....

The first sedar is tomorrow (Monday) night...we are going out to friends....I'm bringing a side dish and dessert....The 2nd sedar is just the family at home (it will be weird without my son here...its the first sedar that he is away) and then we have company for lunch on Wednesday.....SO....not sure that I will be on the computer the next few days.....I'm sure there will be tons of catching up to do.....Well...its off to bed for me....Sweet dreams to one and all and thanks for letting me be one sided tonight!!!!  Hugs, karen

Good Morning all, had a great sleep oh it felt so good to 8 hours again. I am turning over a new leaf today, I have put on 8 lbs since diagnosis in Jan and not at all happy about this. I know I know I am not supposed to be worrying about it right now but I just cant help it. When you spend your whole life concerned with your weight 8lbs freaks you out. SOOOOOOO. no more drinkie poo's during the week, except my virtual ones of course lol, only a couple on weekend if I am feeling good and must cut out all the carbs I have been scarffing down my face. Oh and exercise too. I can do it, I can do it , I can do it.

Its still snowing a bit here but today is supposed to be the last day then the big melt down begins.

OK off to get some work done have a great day
