Hi everyone... The hair is still holding on. Haven't brought myself to cut it off, keep thinking to myself, "what if it's only going to get thinner" (I have a lot of hair) So, I was wondering if anyone else thought that? Now tell me to stop being in denial and get passed it.
Both the get togethers sound like so much fun. I can't wait til I get to meet some of you. I can tell who some people are in the picture but not everyone. So it would be nice to match the faces and names. Hopefully next time.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Berrypatch... I do think we are neighbors. I think from an earlier post that we go to the same hospital, also.

Morning! What? We had one day of sun and now back to clouds and maybe showers???? Yuck.
Carol/berrypatch/Jo/Mich101....I should really call you guys the next time DH and I take a ride as we were at Dockers on Pistakee Lake for lunch yesterday. It was glorious! Sunny and very breezy!
Jo....you're not in denial...I prefer to call it hoping that your hair won't vacate! And as for the picture of our lunch bunch...I am the pretty one.
OK...OK....only kidding. Starting at left..that is Irene (Rene23) with the dark hair and in blue, then LauraGTO (blonde with black/white dress), then Blackjack (Michele), brunette in pink/coral print, across from Blackjack is yours truly, peeking around....Smerf (Pat), and then last but not least...JanClare with the adorable cute short haircut!
Not much going around out here today....did manage to get the lawn mowed last night but the sides of the house were just mud still! OH well...it's done. But boy....was I soaking wet when I was finished! One thing I sure don't need any more of is sun on my arms. I just didn't think yesterday when we took the convertible. It is an hour and 15 up to the lakes for lunch, then it was too breezy for umbrellas so another 2 hrs in the sun! My poor little arms! DH was much smarter and sprayed #30 on his arms and legs. We did have the top up and the AC on all the way home...it had gotten way too hot and there was quite a bit of traffic and construction.
Have a great Dad's Day everyone!

Donna - I am almost 2 years out from my last chemo and I still cannot sleep at night. I have been convinced it is the Tamoxifen but I see you are ER-. I take the lowest dose of Temazepam (sleeping pill) every night. My doc isn't concerned as it is such a low dose. I hate having to take it, but if I don't I cannot sleep. I am not wide awake, just in this light dozing all night and my body does not feel like it used to - it feels like it is being affected by some chemical. Maybe it's not the Tamox but maybe it is the menopause.
Buddy - I too developed hemorroids during chemo and had some rectal bleeding. I had diarrhea on chemo day and then extreme constipation. It was painful and scary. Glad you checked with your doc.
Susan - We give my daughter an Amer. Girl gift cert every year for Xmas. Then we go and I always wonder why I did that. It is obscene. I will say that she does play with her doll a lot and so it does make me feel a bit better. She plays with it much more than some toys that get played with once and thrown in a closet. We have never done the cafe.
You lunch bunch ladies look awesome.

Morning to all.....a little sun, muted mostly, but another wild night for us. Our water table is so high here.....so. Wondering about the farmers who did manage to get SOME crops in....are the seeds drowning or washing away????
Great you see you Michele and Connie. I'm sorry about the pain Connie, but knowing about it may allow Laura not to feel as nervous about the why....hope so.
Jo.....whatever you have to do to get through this. I think total hair loss is a matter of what kind of chemo you are having....some only do thin the hair. I had A/C ( 4 times ) plus Taxotere ( 4 times ) so knew my hair would ALL go. When it started coming out ( on it's own ) it did so rather freely leaving bald spots galore.....too big to cover up so no question. It was a traumatic thing. No doubt about it.....at whatever age we are when this event comes......we have had our hair all of our lives....no matter how bad it may have looked now and then....it was at least there and allowed us to feel the same as everyone else --- who knows maybe they too had to walk in the rain because they forgot their umbrella. I still think of the months spent in a wig and scarves and I did not like it at all. I was fortunate that it was winter so the wig did help my head stay warm....I had to look for "reasons" for it to be ok.....but of course, the biggest reason was I was determined to do whatever I had to do to save my own life. No one else could do it.....I HAD to buck up ( last thing I wanted to do several times ) because even when I wavered, I have a son and a daughter and a husband and other family members who aren't done with me yet....and it was not my time and I knew that. I personally did feel better taking charge by getting my head shaved. Went to the local beauty college. It is though a very personal thing. Honestly, I think I worried the whole time that my hair would never come back because it is who we are....right or not, like it or not. It is a huge part of our femininity...take it away and we are lost and out of control. So whatever you have to do....or not do. There probably aren't any wrong answers - just always know that we join hands with you everyday to hold you up and help you as you venture into this very different part of your life.
A little off topic but Happy Day to all the neat fellars' in your life everyone.
Hugs, Jackie

Hello everyone,
Hugs and Happy Sunday to everyone- and Happy Father's day to the fathers in your lives!
It was very nice to see the Lunch Bunch last Friday. We all looked MARVELOUS...and I so enjoyed talking to everyone.
As was mentioned, I'm currently recovering from a broken bone in my ankle, which is not so bad. Much worse is the post concussive symptoms I have. The headaches are pretty bad sometimes. I'm taking it easy in a lot of ways.
We were talking at the lunch about getting together again in July and August. With my brand new kitchen and deck, I would love to have everyone come to my house in August. So, I'm officially inviting everyone to a luncheon/pot luck on SATURDAY, August 1st. Saturday- so that as many people as possible can come! From 1 pm on.. to however long anyone wants to stay. As a matter of fact, if anyone wants to come from down South, I can also put two people up for overnight if they would like. But you would have to share a bed.
I would provide the main dish (probably sandwiches) and drinks, but thought it would be fun to have a pot luck for the other food.
So, please check your calenders and save the date! If you can come, send me a PM and I will send you my address and phone numbers
August Illinois Ladies Lunch/PotLuck
Saturday, August 1st 1pm-???
Lake Zurich, IL
I have a big house, with plenty of room. We can sit around and gab, move around so that we can talk with everyone!
Please say you can come!

Hi gals!
JanClare, you are right! You gals do look WONDERFUL! What a neat-looking group! I'm so sorry about your foot. That's not what you need during the summer, gal.
Wendy, your hair is getting longer and I really like it!
Susan, did you enjoy your Rockford gettaway?
Connie, so glad that you had fun in Vegas. I have never played that kind of poker. Maybe that is something I should try next time. I usually just stick with the slots but after my Keno win, I'm a Keno fan, too! As for your sleepless nights, I'd bet on the Tamoxifin. I know mine is related to the Arimidex. After doing the yoga, I am finding that if I do some of the stretching and relaxation moves right before bed, I'm much more able to sleep instead of tossing and turning late into the night.
Jackie, I hope you didn't get hit by all those bad storms this past week. We had dinner last night with Mary Jane and her hubby and several of the towns around them had tornadoes hit but none in their town. This weather is really scary!
Ginny, so glad the new meds are working! You looked so much better when I ran into you at Wally World on Saturday! I've got my fingers crossed that they will continue to do the trick for you. Start gathering up your pennies for Thursday! LOL
Blackjack, have a good trip! WIN, WIN, WIN! If you haven't seen the current light show on Freemont street be sure to take it in. It was very good and they changed the show every hour so you could see several different ones while doing the sites downtown.
Well, hugs to ALL of you! It's cloudy here so it seems like a good day to finish up a few things in the house and then grab a good book. I took Dave to breakfast after church so the rest of the day is just waiting for me! LOL

I am "quilting challlenged" and actually any sort of craft makes me nervous rather than relaxed. My dd is a quilter, however and she found this 3-day expo in Schaumburg in November. I cannot copy the url, but if you are interested google "quilting expo schaumburg november" and see what they offer. I may go with her as I am now retired and can do whatever I want!
My Rockford trip is next Thursday. I do the mri tomorrow. I wish I was more "adult" about these things. They called to remind me so it is not going away. HOT HERE!

Hi Ladies. It was really nice to see a few of you again at the lunch bunch. Looking forward to JanClare's in August.
As was mentioned, I was attending a baby shower that same day and I made the shower favors. I was SO pleased with how they came out. Here's a promised picture.
Sorry it's not a great pic, but I took it with my phone (too lazy to find the camera). The labels on the front say "Leslie's Shower" and the jars are filled with personalized M&Ms and Junior Mints. Everyone seemed to love them, so yay.
Work, luncheon, baby shower, work again, wedding, Father's Day! This weekend is wearing me out!
Hugs to all, I'll have to catch up with everything later.

Susan, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I understand how this upsets you....believe me! I'm exactly the same. For some reason I thought you'd done your Rockford trip. Hey, you still have something to look forward to after the dreaded MRI tomorrow. I give you lots of credit because you got it all scheduled and are ready to go. I procrastinate on things like this!
Rene, what creative favors! I can see why everyone liked them. Neat idea!
I hope everyone shared a good day with the "Dads in your life!"

Hi All!! We are at the hotel enroute to NY. Had a question as this is when my best thinking goes, driving and thinking. What is everyone who had a MX, doin for letting emergency servcies,(if you are in an accident etc), doin to inform all that your arm is not to be touched for iv;s etc.. how can one wear a bracelet or necklace all the time? Lymphedema being such a issue, how do we stay safe if we were unconscious or in an accident?
jan...i so wish i could make the date assigned for your BBQ!!!We have a family reunion in New lenox .Maybe one of these days, now that life is slowly coming back, will be able to meet some of you~~~!!!IT would be impossible to do both. Grrrrr! Also, heal that ankle.. sending healing wishes!!!!Thank you soooo much for the invite..you and i need to meet too since we both know Dr. Bittar!!
Jo... I thought the same as you, as i had such thick hair.. my onocologist said it is not possible, but I am no expert on this part. I just knew it started 15 days after my first tx and had already a GI Jane cut. I had T/.C.. ?
Connie..You described the sleep issue exaclty how it is for me!!! it is only a short time for me and feel for you too!!!I will look up your sleeping pill and see. Being in a hotel tonight noises, strange bed, DH snoring, i am goin to take a Lorazapam as i need some solid sleep. Hate taking it for the day after kind of dopey. Melatonin alone is not enough but will go back to that after trip. My body is not the same or is my face, wheni see it in the mirror. Look tired still
WHEN does my hair start growing..have peach fuzz. I KNOW, no way is this goin to happen for a while., i just am so hot and itchy in my headwear!!!
Good nite all.. and sweet dreams for those that sleep.
Hey,, if Blackjack.. wins,. she could get us ALL laundry fairies.. isn't that a splendid idea.
Donna

Morning! Oh look....it's raining. Again. Goody.
Blackjack....I hope you are having loads of fun! Have one of the cabana boys make sure and keep up with your sunscreen!
Connie...glad you snuck in some fun at least!
Donna....most of us have some type of bracelet with a medical alert on it re: the LE. I wore mine for about 1.5 yrs and then for some reason I just stopped. Probably should put it back on....I hope it's upstairs! Just a thought for you tho....I was in the hospital for emergency back surgery and there was indeed a large pink rubber bracelet on my arm that the hospital put there re: NO NOTHIN'! in that arm. I woke up from surgery to find on the back of my L hand (the bad side) a cotton ball with tape stuck there. I immediately asked WTH...turns out one of the labs was a bit off and the DOCTOR said it would be OK to just draw a LITTLE BIT from that side. The DOCTOR said that! And yes.....I was still in recovery and after he told me that everything was fine....I took him apart and then gave him a little lecture. They do have on-line these big pink stretchy sleeves that sell for about $4.50 I think that cover your whole arm...just in case you get Mr. Stupid. JanClare knows what the website is....just a thought for you!
Rene....LOVE the favors! They were really cute!
Susan...will be thinking about you today! Good thinking to schedule something fun afterwards.
Jackie....I really hope the weather quiets down for you! How's the lake level? It is most probably very high by now! Does this mean the mosquitos will take over????
Ginny.....think about you often! Fingers remained crossed!!!!!
Laura....did you have a good trip? Paulie miss you?
Just watching the weather....looks like a very warm week, girls! But I am so not complaining! I remember all the snow and ice and very cold temps. This.....this is ok by me!
Have a great day everyone....and may the skies stay somewhat quiet for you!
0 -
The skies are quiet here this morning, Wendy, and I hope to get out and re-pot a few plants that the squirrels dug up! URGH! If it's not the squirrels, it's the deer, coon, groundhog, or oppossum! I am determined to win! LOL Hopefully it will clear shortly in your area and the rain will go away!
Travel safely, Donna. I know what you mean about driving and thinking (or riding in a car and thinking). When I was in my thirties and forties and things weren't going right for some reason or another, I'd get in the car and drive until I had my mind straight. I did the same thing one night after my diagnosis. Strange how I can drive and focus on the problems at the same time! I guess it's always been a type of therapy for me.
Well, I have an entire day with nothing planned until bowling tonight. I'm making BBQ beef in the crock pot, working in the yard, doing some laundry, and writing some questions and for some strange reason, I'm actually looking forward to it!
Thinking of you today,Susan. Please let us know how it went!
How are you doing, Annette?

Here I am this a.m. and for once there is little threat of rain,,,,,,but we are going to be scorching hot. What a June this has been. Still don't know if I can get more of my siding done.....I'll have to think about early in the morning tomorrow I guess.
Hmmm, as far as thinking and riding...I can do that a bit, but it can be even easier for me when I'm walking. One of these days I need to get back to my walking too...I miss being able to do it. My feet got so bad ( long before chemo ) that I had to stop. It is something I definitely need to put back in my life if at all possible. One of the best and healthiest exercises you can do. Going to have to find some way to get rid of this heat though.
Ah...the lake level.....they spill it all the time so it does not go too high. They could do a lot less of that if they would get it dredged. Always has seemed funny to me to build a huge drinking water lake and not make one iota of a plan to de-silt it. I just wonder what things will be like lake-wise with all this early HEAT we usually don't have.....this is August weather right now.
Susan....I too am crossing everything for you and hoping for the best. Good way actually to start your retirement....good medical news right up front so you can truly enjoy your new lazy, do what I want, when I want days.
Karin...how is is going with you?
Onward with my day.....I'll be checking in as always. See ya'll later.

"Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. Jackie, I love the quote. It makes me want to bring dh into the mri with me. Of all the people in whole wolrd, he makes me calm. Rita, don't give me too much credit for scheduling the dreaded MRI...I am overdue by 3 months. Father's Day was a blast and now I need to straighten this house.
Connie, your description of sleep is like mine. I do not have insomnia at all, but I awake and my body feels like there are chemicals in it. I have often wondered about that feeling. I also am prone to the sleep terrors and I wonder if the meds are contributing to that as I awake form them and my body feels so drugged. I take arimidex only. I am actually sleeping very soundly now, just waking up feeling odd. Donna, I know you want to tackle that sleep issue. Losing sleep is awful. Ask the Doctor for what Connie is taking.
Take care all.

SUSAN...DON'T KNOW IF I'M TOO LATE BUT YOU COULD ASK THE MRI TECH TO BREAK IT DOWN INTO SECTIONS, MAYBE LET YOU KNOW HOW LONG EACH PART WILL BE. MINE WOULD SAY SOMETHING LIKE 4 MINUTES FOR THIS PART. THEN I WOULD COUNT TO MAKE THE TIME PASS UNTIL THE END OF THE 4 MINUTES. DON'T KNOW IF AN OPTION BUT YOU COULD ASK.
LAURA... HOW PAULA?
DONNA... HAVE FUN WITH YOUR DAD. THANKS FOR THE HAIR ADVICE. NOT IN DENIAL ANYMORE. BUZZED IT THIS MORNING. I'M DOING AC AFTER THE TC DIDN'T WORK. HAD AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THE TAXOTERE.
BUDDY... ANY NEWS ON YOUR NEW PATHOLOGY?
RENE... MAY I STEAL YOUR IDEA? MY LITTLE GIRLS 3RD BIRTHDAY IS IN AUGUST AND I THOUGHT THOSE WOULD BE CUTE FOR A GOODIE BAG. OBVIOUSLY I THOUGH THEY WERE REALLY GREAT.
JACKIE... THANKS FOR TELLING ME ABOUT YOUR HAIR EXPERIENCE. ESPECIALLY SEEING I AM DOING AC TOO. YOU AND DONNA HELPED ME GET TO THE POINT THAT I STOPPED BEING IN DENIAL AND LET IT GO. THANKS.
EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT!

Donna - I was just talking to someone yesterday about hair. I remembered that my last chemo was Oct 30th. I took my wig off sometime in mid April - so a little less than 6 months. It was really short when I took it off but I was so sick of the wig. I was self conscious for a few weeks and then the curl started coming in and it looked ok. Now I love my curls. Unlike some, they are not going away!
JanClare - thanks for the offer. We will be coming back from our camping trip in NM on the 1st - we land very late. Wish I could make it!

Rita, I am doing OK. Had my echo cardiogram on Friday , and tomorrow is my colonoscopy. I have spent all afternoon near a bathroom. Wednesday is my MRI and next Tuesday is my CT so they can do the maping for my rads. I see the medical onc on the 29th. He has been out of the country for a month. We are supposed to talk over what pills he wants to put me on and also the results of the echo since I will still be doing herceptin for about 14 more times. My knee is still hurting alot, but I had to stop taking the celebrex for 4 days because of the colonoscopy. I can start it back up again after it is done tomorrow. It does seem to help.
we went to Auburn just south of Springfield to our youngest son's house for Fathers Day. Had a nice time. Saw 3 of the grandkids. Saturday I went with my husband to our booth at the Urbana Farmers Market. It was the first time I felt well enough to go for the whole morning this year. Our daughter has been going for me. It finally feels for a little while that I have part of my life back. I know I may have to stop for a while again after rads start, but for now it is nice to be able to do something ordinary and not have to think about if I am well enough to make it thru.
Hope you are getting to golf. The weather sounds a little warm this week. Annette

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the well wishes on the mri. I tried this time without meds to relax me and never, ever again. I have a phobia: plain and simple. The technicians were wonderful, but said that most people do better with meds. I prayed for all of you while in there. I was only in there for 25 minutes but I got a lot of prayers said. It wasn't just the experience itself. I worked myself up and made myself sick! I was able to complete it and now I will wait for the results. What will be, will be. Just glad it is behind me.
So, thanks again!

Susan....wonderful that you were able to get through but claustrophobia is very difficult. You did put way too much stress on yourself.....still your a hero. I recall learning ( the hard way of course ) that I had claustrophobia. I laughed at the question when they asked me and come the day....I screamed like a banshee the minute they got me only part way in. So I had to come back...the next day.
They gave me what had to be the smallest pill I have ever seen. Prepared now I still thought I'm going to be yelling soon till my lungs fall out...that little, tiny, minuscule pill won't touch my fear. Well, let me tell you....I could have met the Grim Reaper, Freddy Krueger and anyone else and laughed in their face. It did not make me drowsy but I had absolutely no fear. I highly recommend this pill if you are say jumping out of a plane for the first time, getting into a tank of sharks, or running with the bulls. Trust me....it will not be a problem. Do take your meds next time.....and leave the stress out of your day. Big congrats....now on to an ned status.
Hugs, Jackie

Donna - I had my last chemo at the beginning of Feb... on March 5th... dh spotted peach fuzz. So... that was about a month after my last treatment. I had 4-A/C and 4 Taxols over a 16 week time frame. Hang in there....we should start calling you Peachy!
Irene - Wow! You did a FAB job! The favors are so awesome!
CONNIE - Omg... this is the exact reason why I post about unusual pains. I love to read that others here are feeling the same thing. It helps me SO MUCH! Thanks for posting about your experience with it... I really appreciate it.
Wendrew - We had a nice time in WI... and YES - Paulie was full of kisses when we got back home. I had my friend come over and play with him while we were gone.
Donna - The only thing you can do is to wear a warning bracelet... JanC has a good source.
--------------------------------------
A good friend of mine is a Paramedic... I am going to ask him about this!
--------------------------------------
Susan - Hope your MRI went well... thinking about you! Hope you put on those big girl panties!

Morning all....just popping in before I am off to the gym...
Hot today....heat advisory! Well...we wanted winter over, didn't we????
Jackie...where can I get one of those pills? DH home until 8/3 and I am already getting up earlier and earlier so I can escape!
Blackjack...I bet you are having fun! But you could have stayed here...I think it's hotter! But alas, no pool/cabana boys!
Donna/Jo...how are you guys feeling?
Donna...don't be surprised if your peach fuzz falls out. Mine did, and a few others did too. I look at it as your follicles are sending out scouts to see if the coast is clear! Don't worry...by this time next year you will once again be complaining abut bad hair days. I swore I never would complain again. Yeah...no. We never like our hair (or our thighs for that matter).
Hope everyone else has a great day. Take it easy in this heat, esp. you girls in treatment. Gee...I see that Jon and Kate are divorcing???? Wow...didn't see that coming. (and yes, I am kidding...I saw the show once or twice and I couldn't stand her!)

Morning all......another scorcher of a day here is in store. I'll be working inside again. I was going to do a section of siding this a.m. but I think it's already too hot. Definitely August weather. Not liking that.
Buddy....I think someone ??? else mentioned one time to me that if you have a reaction to Taxotere it tends to happen pretty much right away --- if your body/system tolerates it the first time you more than likely will go through all your txs ok.
Jon and Kate...watched that once and it drove me up the wall. I can't seem to get into any of the reality shows.
Donna....hope you are enjoying your trip. Too bad you are gone cause I think Buddy could have done all of our laundry in one afternoon.....along with a big batch of home made noodles and apple pie for dessert.....in-between loads.
Hi to everyone. I'll be checking in later.
Jackie.
