Princess Juliet - I am stunned and saddened. Big huge hugs to you! You know we will be here for you. Whether you post often or not, you will always be in our hearts. Is it bc? And do they know if it's a new primary? Again...big hugs to you.

Oh my !!! Rotten news Julie, but just one errant cell getting away 18 months ago perhaps. So much is done to try and prevent things like that, but just know that you are going to have a very large group tagging along to support you all the way.
Hugs, Jackie

Afternoon all...
Juliet.....I am very surprised at your news, which makes me very sad indeed. But like Kate says...lots of good medicine out there to fight this beast. Please know that even if you haven't been posting lately (hello! you had a LIFE again!) you have always been in our hearts and will remain there, safely tucked away. I will say a prayer for you tonight, and for always. Whatever you need, please let us know. Even if it is just a friendly face at Pompeii! We love you girlfriend!
Susan...these days I am afraid to even read the paper...do this, don't do that, OMG DON'T DO THAT!!!!!!!!! Soy! NO Soy! Make up your minds! The alcohol thing did freak me out a bit tho with it's increasing the chance of recurrence. But then...you have to take in to account our already increased chance. So....I went out and bought a Brita pitcher ...turns out that my fat content at the new gym was over 30 and since my weight was actually a pleasant surprise I decided to drink a LOT more water. So.....no more wine for me.....at least on a regular basis. I'll just reserve alcohol now for an occasion. (I don't suppose I can count every Saturday and Sunday as an Occasion???)
Sure is cold out....I hear it's 84 down by my relatives in Fl...oh boy. Sure wish I was there!
Hope everyone else is doing well...I am off to drizzle sugar syrup over my baklava cups for my party tomorrow! Yum!!!!

Juliet...sorry to hear about your recurrence. Hopefully it is just in one area as oppoed to mine that went to my bones, lymph nodes and liver. I get a pet scan on the 28th of Dec and the results on the 30th. I am hoping that this chemo is working as it is really kicking my butt.
Rita and Wendyty....Had a great time at lunch last week. It was great to see you guys.
Sorry I havn't been in touch but like Rita said I was in Illinois last week and had no computer access. Next time I go on a trip I will have my laptop as my husband bought me one for Christmas. I am using it now. It's great to be in bed and able to surf the net and stuff.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Hope 2010 brings good health for everyone.

Prayed for you Julie. I know you must be discouraged (maybe even enraged) so I prayed you would receive strength to go forward.
Ginny, it was good to hear from you.I am happy your husband gave you a laptop. Check in when the urge to do so hits.
Wendy, I agree, I hate all the news about what is good and what is bad. It all seems to change. It undermines our self-confidence.
Have a good evening!

Busters Mom - I don't post too much these days either, but I do read often. Prayers are with you and sorry for what you are going through. We are here for you, maybe not always on these pages but always in our hearts. You are very special. WE ARE TOUGH!

Julie ~ I'm so sorry to hear your news. But do try to stay positive... wait let me rephrase that a bit. Stay positive, stay strong and get mad as you need to be. Sometimes anger can give us that little extra boost we need to fight this war against cancer. Just remember the troops (meaning we ladies here) are behind you and with you 100% and there is nothing we can't face together.
On another note... I went to my PS today and got another fill. He put in 110 cc on each side and now I have 400 and my skin is really feeling the stretching. But when I went to the pharmacy to pick up my meds for chemo and that horrid shot I've been trying not to think about. I was told that I owed $4, 009 for my medicine. Now I have pretty good insurance coverage for my medicine so I thought for sure there had been a mistake. But I was soon corrected about that. The shot I was supposed to give myself the day after each chemo treatment costs 4K each. And the ONLY way my insurance would cover the cost is if I were admitted into the hospital. So I went to my oncologist who is thankfully right across the hall and asked what was I suppose to do. And I was told "Oh that happens all the time with different insurance companies. You'll just have to come back here the day after each chemo treatment and get the shot, it's no big deal." I couldn't believe what I was hearing... NO BIG DEAL? Who are they kidding here? It's not like I live next door to the hospital, now granted I only live about 20 mins away but come on here. But to my doctors credit she didn't offer to let me stay the night after each chemo treatment and get the shot in the morning and then go home. Right now all I can do is sit here dumb founded and wonder why? Why would the insurance company be more willing to pay for a bed in a hospital and pay all that extra cost instead of just making the cost of that shot more affordable.
Sorry about my rant but on this I'm so.... (pick a word!)

Juliet...Hugs to you dear sister! Everyone on this thread is sharing your shock, pain, and agony and we will be here for you as you attack this again. You will be in my thoughts and prayers! As Michele said, WE ILLINOIS GALS ARE TOUGH (especially when we don't want to be tough) and we do stick together! Hang in there. Come here and post often. Keep us informed and vent when it's needed.
MsMarilyn.....I had to go back to the Cancer Center the day after treatments to get my shot also. Fortunately, I'm only about 15 minutes away and I only had to have one after the 4th treatment. These insurance companies sometimes create more stress than the actual treatments, don't they?
On the soy issue, I'm staying away from it until more reports are in. Who knows if that is the right thing to do or the wrong thing???? So let's see, that eliminates alcohol, soy, and sugar. I must admit I've cheated a bit on the sugar this past week. I've had two holiday bowling parties and a Left, Center, Right gathering but I indulged only moderately.
Ginny....glad you got your laptop. That will make it convenient to stay in touch and now you have no excuse for not posting. LOL I got your email. Thanks!
Well, I have lots to accomplish today. Our local bc group is having our holiday gathering this evening. We are touring Broadview Mansion here in town and then having snacks and desserts in the Mansion. When we get together, we're about as chatty as the Illinois group. I think our last count was 17 so we should have a good time.
Everyone have a good day!

Hi this a.m. Usually don't get to post early. Ginny, it was so good to hear from you. Glad you are back where it is warmer and using that wonderful laptop. I'm also hoping and praying that you get good results with your txs -- sometimes I'm sure the going gets tough and tiresome -- but just let us know and we will make the prayers for strength even stronger. Often it is when you think you have little left that the second wind comes.
Ms. Marilyn....hi to you. Yes, the old insurance woes. Makes you wonder how many devious minds are busy at a long desk coming up with all the twists and turns and odd things you find in your insurance policy. The bottom line is insurance companies are in the business of making money so it is all slanted their way. Who'd thought you would need a "special" person to read your insurance policy before you started this. Well, all companies have to make money but it would be nice if the rules were a bit more simple and a better way to find out than after you are presented with a massive bill two weeks before X-mas.
Hi to everyone else this morning. Hope you all have a gorgeous if cool -- guess that would actually be cold day....just hope it is good.

Oops...forgot to say...white food is not really great for us -- mainly in the form of foods full of flour or sugar etc. Good un-adulterated bread 100 per cent whole wheat -- Ezekiel ( sp?? ) is very good as is Milton's. Rita, I think you have the key -- moderation. So I do use soy milk because I just don't use that much milk. I also avoid too much cheese as well. Yogurt is Stonybrook Farms as the live bacteria is still there but any will do as long as the bacteria is left in it.
See you all again.

This is what is killing me right now...how these insurance companies are controlling every move and every one and our politicians are allowing them to tug on the strings of sick and worried people an even on them! Sorry to hear your news Ms. Marilyn about the shot mess...you have every right to be very angry and frustrated.
MsMarilyn you said something very wise to Juliet (and to us). Anger does get us through. My administration was tooling me around when I was first diagnosed and it got me mad and it got me going and I stepped up to the plate and got my rights. They were little business, however. Insurance is BIG BUSINESS and it is so sad that people have to get angry because they tool us around and we are too tiny and vulnerable to get the health care we rightfully should have. Some hospitals have insurance navigators who can help you with your health/insuranceneeds. I wish you well. I am mad with you! This is actually wrong!

MsMarilyn - Sometimes the insurance company will bend the rules if you call and tell them that other insurance companies do let the patients give themselves the shot. I was fortunate that my insurance company mailed me the shots. Good luck...it's terrible that you have to fight yet another fight!

It sure is ca-ca-cold out there! Lots of running around to do.

Morning...short visit with you all today as I am off for errands and a holiday lunch with my exercise girls, most of whom have now joined the new place...so YAY for me as I will continue to see them !
RE: the neulasta shot....I am thinking that the real reason they don't want you to have it at home as just think how much we could sell this for! Say...$1000. a pop...heck I would have made 6 grand! Truthfully my ins. would have let me do this at home but lots of paperwork and rigamarole so since onc is only 15 min. away, I just drove back after the gym. No biggy. And since it was part of the chemo protocol, I had no expense whatsoever.
Read the article about the biphosphonates and it sure looks promising. Hey...any of you gals who will be seeing their onc's in the near future...ask, OK? I don't see mine until July 1st.
Ginny...so glad to hear from you! And aren't laptops great! Movies, online shopping, email, US....US!!!!! I think it was Jackie who once said..."If you are going thru Hell.....keep going!"...keep going Ginny, keep fighting the good fight. We are here, with big shoulders. Always.
Goes for you too Princess Juliet - we are here. Whatever you might need. But sometimes just knowing that someone is out there...makes all the difference in the world.
Gotta scoot....have a great wonderful happy day!

Shock of all shock - I'm back again, posting twice in one week!! haha.
Thanks so much for your words, thoughts, encouragement - it means so, so much to me.
I still don't know anything yet - but once I know more, I'll be sure to come let you know. I'm already learning that there are so many different terms when it comes back: Recurrence, New Primary, etc.... so I guess I can't really give it any kind of a name, just yet. Except a*shole!! HAHA
I hope everyone has a nice weekend. If anyone ever ventures to Pompei on a Saturday or Sunday, please let me know!!!
Peace - Juliet

Good to be hearing from you, though not for this reason.
You're so right about so many different terms. Have you had a biopsy? The path report usually tells you if it is a recurrence or a new primary.
I'm thinking of you, and you are in all our prayers. I sure would come to Pompei's on a weekend!
Hugs to you tonight.

Juliete:
Yes, the vocabulary is confusing. Smerf straightened me out on the difference between metastas and recurrence just recently. I too can get to the restaurant on a weekend if I know in advance. I can get anywhere, for that matter! You will beat this sucker, girl, and It sounds like it was teeny tiny and the you and the docs are on top of it.

PJuliet - We're all thinking about you.

Wanted to check in...hope you all have a decent/nice day. I can't believe Christmas is next week! Where has the time gone! I honestly thought this past week was the week of Dec 7th...NOT the week of Dec 14th. OMGosh...time is FLYING! I woke up at 4:30 this morning and have not stopped since! lol Time to run errands...yuck!
Oh...just some words of caution...beware of CRAZY holiday shoppers on the roads. Many are freaked out and speeding to all the stores, while talking on cell phones! Couple of good examples of this yesterday! Geesh...and also be careful while walking in parking lots. I almost got run over when a dude on a cell phone backed out of his parking space. He was more concerned about his precious phone call than my life! lol Why is it necessary to cradle a cell phone in your neck, while trying to back out! But seriously...be extra alert!

Hi ladies - had a crazy week and I'm just getting a chance to check in.
Juliet - I am so sorry you have to go through this again. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
MsMarilyn - I had to go to the cancer center the day after chemo for the Neulasta shot. All during AC, I gave myself daily shots of Neupogen, but they wouldn't let me do the Neulasta. I don't remember if I questioned it, but I guess now I know why. I hate insurance companies!!!!
I had 3 glasses of wine Tuesday at my holiday dinner for work. For the most part, I don't drink at all - had my fill in college and really don't care for any of it - but I will have a glass or two of wine at work functions.
Off to DD's class party. Have a great day everyone! Thinking of you Ginny and Juliet!

Hi all. I thought it was against the law now to drive and talk on a cell phone while holding it or text while driving etc. Since I seldom talk on the cell phone anywhere...I may be confused with some other states' law. If not a law here, I think it should be and absolutely no texing in the car by the driver. I have heard that even talking via headphones etc. is still distracting for the driver of a car and depending on traffic I could see where that could be the case.
Hope you all do have a wonderful day. Laura, like you I wonder how the time is passing so quickly. Just when did I lose control on this.
As well, I hope you all do have a really fantastic week-end. I'll be checking in later.
Hugs, Jackie

Jackie - Hi! Talking on a cell phone is ILLEGAL in Crook County, IL. But from what my family says - they all live in Crook County - it is not heavily enforced. Don't know if it's illegal in any other counties, but I know it's NOT ILLEGAL in my county. I think legislation is in the works for texting while driving to be illegal. HOWEVER, I think it will be considered either a "state" issue or a "local" issue. I am keeping tabs on too many other, extremely serious DC issues to know all the facts about this one.

And btw - lol I usually do "walk in the rain" - but just a little while ago, while putting out our garbage bins for garbage day alllllllll the way at the end of our drive-way...I just got wet. lol ; )

Hi Laura and Jackie,
It is illegal to use a hand held device in Chicago, and in some other towns. So far these are local, but the state is talking about a statewide ban. I wish it would ban all use, because I think drivers are distracted even when using a microphone or blutooth device. Also, insurance companies are looking at whether a driver was on the phone or texting, or any other electronic device to decide who is at fault in an accident. Some folks have had accidents while trying to read their GPS! What a world we live in.
0 -
I agree - phones and texting while driving should be a statewide ban. Imagine all the revenue that could be obtained by way of fines! Gee...perhaps that revenue could offset the recent Medicare budget cuts.
But anywho...again...drive cautiously and safely! And beware of a sleigh with a bunch of reindeers. lol I hope they all wear fluorescent vests this year!
