Good morning everyone. Hope you are all having a great week-end after a stunning Christmas. Though cold and windy with a few snow flurries ( nothing sticks ) thrown in for good measure I am enjoying life. Though I could use the income, it is delightful to have some time off work -- have to admit two days a week are not exactly agonizing to get through -- but I will be off this week as well. I have lots of things to keep me as busy as I want to stay so not a real problem.
Are you all looking forward to New Years Eve. We have no plans at this time but it could change on short notice. I am not big on this holiday as it is a little dangerous unless your having the party at your house. Still, nice to do very moderate celebrating if one can. Dh and I usually fall asleep readily at home before the big moment arrives so have quit attempting to "see" the New Year in at home.
I'll be checking in a little later. See you then.
Hugs, Jackie

Morning! Hope everyone had a blessed holiday!
Last count out here was 13" and it has been lightly snowing for the past 2 hours. Jeepers...when I went to bed Christmas night they were talking 1-3"! Sure blew this one.....
Count me in as well re: New Year's Eve....I make it to 10:30, then go to bed and struggle to stay awake for New York...and then that's it for me. Oh what a party girl I am...LOL!
Off to do some light shoveling, then some errands. And I have written myself a note to stop by Walgreens to p/u my arimidex rx and it's been ready since Thurs am and I keep forgetting!
Have a wonderful Sunday....and start resting up for Thursday Night all you party animals!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. And how about that snow yesterday - holy crap! I believe we got about 10 inches here. I was so glad it was Saturday & I didn't have to leave the house.
Thanks to everyone for thinking of me. I found out it's the same type of cancer (ER+), and at this point it's a local recur. I'm going for a bone scan & a CT scan on 1/4/2010 just to be sure. As long as it's nowhere else (and it won't be The plan is for an oophorectomy & rads. Sounds like I'll most likely have to lose my implant on that side too.. which, actually I'm not that freaked out about. It's been painful & tight since I got it (some contacture problems.) So I'll probably just get them both out & call it a day.
I asked about a PET scan, but onco said at this point he doesn't want to do one because they can lead to many unneeded biopsies & they think in my case, they are doing the proper scans.
I wish I KNEW exactly what was right & wrong. \
I want to find more info about the ovary removal from ladies who have had it. Has anyone here ? Or do you know what board/thread I can look to for info?
By the way - NavyMom, I haven't met you but I'm glad to hear your scan was ok!! Ginny - thinking of you & was looking to see if you posted anything more about your scan. Hang in there hon. You've really been through so much already.
Back to work tomorrow - blech. But hey, I'm going to get a nice long leave of absence (without pay, albeit) for my surgery. How terrible is it that I'm actually looking forward to it in a way ? Definitely looking for a new job after I get throught this.
Hugs to all of you - stay warm. I hear we might see some sun tomorrow.

Bustersmom... I had an oopherectomy. What would you like to know? I had it at the same time as my mastectomy. It was laprascopic, so little to no discomfort. And no heavy lifting for a week. Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Juliet - Again, I'm sorry to hear about the recurrence but it does sound like you and your onc have a solid plan in place to deal with this. As far as the scan options go, you could consider getting a second opinion, if only to reassure you that this is the best course of action. I never did get a second opinion, as I always felt pretty confident that what my onc was suggesting for my treatment was pretty routine for my circumstances. However, I have always felt that a second opinion would be something I'd pursue if my situation ever became more complicated.
I did have a laparascopic hysterectomy/oopherectomy in '07. I also had bladder repair at the same time. The surgery itself wasn't so bad, or the recovery. The ensuing menopausal symptoms... another story. I was still on Tamoxifen then, and shortly after switched to Aromasin (which eventually was changed to Femara)... so I really can't tell which had the bigger impact in bringing on the menopausal symptoms. I think it was more of a one-two punch. I was 46 at the time of the ooph, although I hadn't had a period since finishing chemo 1.5 years prior. I STILL get hot flashes, although they are a lot less frequent than they used to be. There are other notsofun issues that come along with insta-pause, but I have to say, I don't regret taking my ovaries out for a minute.
Then again, I'm a sono tech and I look at ovaries all the time, good and bad. I just didn't need or want to have any concerns about mine. Besides, I also had pretty severe endometriosis and adenomyosis, so getting all that out was long overdue in my case, regardless of the reasons.

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!
What a busy time it's been! Plenty of friends and family!
Juliet, I also had a "local re-occurrence" And had ovaries removed 2 months after I finished treatment. If they can do it laparascopic's pretty easy...they tell me....I of course had to have the full bikini cut, to much endometriosis. I'll gladly answer any questions I can.
Anyone finish their 5 years of aromasine? Do the hot flashes get better when not on the drug? Next year will be year 4 for me.
Hate to pop in and out so fast but got work to do....
EVERYONE HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY!!

Hello everyone! Wow! Our couple of inches of snow has mounted up to nearly 8 inches and still counting! I'm a little nervous because my son and his family left about 3 hours ago, heading toward Midway airport to catch a late afternoon flight to Omaha, Nebraska. The roads around here are horrible still. At last check, the flight was still on and not cancelled. I'll rest much easier once I get the call that they have arrived at Midway.
I hope that everyone had as wondferul a Christmas as we had! It was so good to get my hands on those grandsons again. All the presents were a big hit and everything fit! We had a great meal (well several of them before they actually left today) and lots of fun. My oldest grandson's birthday is on the 29th so yesterday afternoon we had a special birthday treat for him. We all went to the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie and then out for pizza before he opened his birthday packages from Dave and I. He thought that was a wonderful birthday surprise and we had so much fun watching their expressions throughout the movie.
Today I think we are heading into town to bowl some practice games and I want to hit Bath and Body Works for their sale. Then I think I'll curl up in my Snuggie and read my Nora Roberts book!
Juliet, If you have any questions or doubt about the suggested treatment plan, I'd suggest getting a second opinion. Peace of mind is so important and you need to feel good and confident about your decisions on how to proceed. If you feel good, that's a different story, but if you have any anxiety, a second opinion might bring you that peace of mind and it doesn't take that much longer to get it.
We're hosting the New Year's Eve celebration for our golf group this time. I need to get organized now that Christmas is over and get my menu made and the entertainment for the night planned. You can imagine what my house looks like after the Christmas experience with the three little guys! LOL
Jackie, it looked like you were getting some of this white stuff down your way? Did it hit there yet?
Well, I need to get cleaned up so we can get out of here for a few hours. If you're heading out for anything, drive safely!

Good evening all -- It has been a glorious day actually. My cousin called -- several of their family got snowed in up in Rantoul. I went out and had lunch there. It had snowed a few times before I got there --- our only flurries did turn into an actual snow. I left a little after 2:30 p.m. to go out and take care of the feral cats around town. I did the ones that Maggie usually does. She did not need to get out in weather like we were having. On the way to get her group done oh my --- how beautiful. The wind came up, the snow started blowing every which way and it was a mini-white-out. It was just amazing to me since I love snow. I would have loved to pull over and just enjoy --- but was late getting the kitties their food already. On the way then towards home my car slipped a few times so found a drive-way and put it in 4 wheel then went on to Maggie's. I do her kitties in her back apt. She is afraid to get out there as she is so little and Diva though so sweet is exuberantly clumsy and would easily knock Maggie down. Stopped at McDonalds first and got us some coffee to go -- Maggie loves the coffee there.
Got home and our neighbors had left a gift tucked in our side-deck door. A plate of home-made cookies and a Christmas stollen from Trader Joe's. I love that store and we have not been able to go for a long time. A rare treasure -- as are our neighbors.
So Rita. -- we are getting some snow. Not all that much, but who knows what will happen over-night. I just want everyone to be safe and sound.....and for your family to get to Nebraska. I hope it is ok there. Hope everyone at the far North are doing all right. If this keeps up I'm going to have to go find my boots -- yikes. See you all.....
Hugs, Jackie

Hello all - Hope you all had a great Christmas. Dr's and work have kept me busy along with shopping for Christmas. All the kids and grandkids were here on Christmas day. It was great. Who knew a year ago what this last year would be like, I had my first mammogram last week after chemo rads and everything. It was one year and one day after the one that found the BC. This one was OK and had ultrasound too. Radiologist said I did not need another one for a year. We will see if onc agrees. I still have 4 more herceptin treatments and I will be done. Thyroid doc says not to come back for a year. The pulmonary doc wants one more CT scan after herceptin is done to check lung nodules. If no change then it will be either 6 monhs or a year before I go back to him. I see onc one more time before my last herceptin. I will have to see BS to have my port taken out. I can almost see getting life back to near normal, Knees still bothering me alot. I think the herceptin keeps them iritated, I am hoping they will improve when the herceptin is done. I had to quit the femara because of the joint pain and talked onc into waiting until herceptin is done before trying something else. I am only a moderate metabolizer for tamoxifin so we may try aromasin first and if that does not work we may try the tamoxifin.
I work for a chain of appliance stores and New Years Days is our biggest sale day of the year, so this week will be really busy. We had about 3 inches of snow here today. Hope it stays nice for rest of week.
It is so good to hear that almost everyone is doing well , and those who are not seem to have treatment plans in place to take care of the problem. I wish all of you the very best new year possible and that you all eventually show NED. This has been a great place to get support and ask questions thru this last year. Again Happy New Year. Annette

Good morning everyone!
I am resting easy now that my kids have made it to Nebraska! They were indeed my favorite holiday gift! It was so nice to have them here for the actual holiday. I envy those of you who have kids nearby! My goal this year is to make more trips to Kentucky to visit.
I am hosting the annual golf group's New Year's Eve Party. My house looks like a tornado swept through it. (Why do I even clean before the kids come????LOL) so I'm off this morning to pick up the clutter and get out the vacuum. This afternoon I'm heading into town to shop the after Christmas sales for ME!!!!! I hit the Bath and Body shop yesterday and found lots of bargains, both for myself and for upcoming gifts. Dinner is easy tonight...........left-over soup and turkey sandwiches!
Everyone have a good day!

Good morning ( chilly, chilly, chilly ) everyone. I was looking around for an up-lifting quote that would make everyone feel cozy on this on so cold day. Then I spied this one and it became so TRUE that I just had to stick it in here.
Hope you are all doing well. Most of you have been very quiet.....gearing up for New Years????
No matter, just hope you are all well and happy and healthy. I'll be checking in later. Have to go get my bangs trimmed today.....I have had a bit of trouble seeing lately and it is due to hair in my eyes.

Turmeric and black pepper fight cancer stem cells By Isabelle on Thursday 17 December 2009, 09:21 -
A new study shows that a combination of turmeric and piperine can limit the growth of stem cells for breast cancer -- the cells that conventional treatment have the hardest time eliminating.
My friend Madhuri Kakarala is a physician at the University of Michigan; she's a cancer specialist and a PhD researcher. But she's also a nutritionist, and, like me, during her final years of medical studies she was diagnosed with cancer -- a stage IV cancer of the thyroid. Madhuri decided to invest all her talent as a researcher and clinician in the task of getting well, and she rapidly arrived at the conclusion that nutritional change could significantly improve her response to her cancer treatment. To read the entire article go to:http://www.anticancerways.com/post/Turmeric-and-black-pepper-fight-cancer-stem-cells?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed:+Anticancerbook+(Anticancerbook.com(Sorry it's bold type...couldn't change it.)0 -
Hi everyone -- gosh, I think this is the quietest this place has been for some time. Hope you are all well. Had 'nother long day here today. Just got back from Wal-Marts as we are due for at least 3 inches of snow by tomorrow night or the next one. Who knows how much it will really be....so thought I'd best replace my boots. Should have a year or two ago -- they were no longer water proof and with their age....didn't seem to last long when I put more on. I got them right after we moved back home here 12 years ago -- good time to retire them I guess.
We are going to a friends house on Thursday evening -- and will have a couple of drinks and then come home and relax till we prom ply fall asleep long before the new year arrives. It is generally what I'm used too. I think I lost any big desire for too much partying years ago. I think I was just out of high school and New Years Day my friend and next door neighbor came over to tell me about an accident the night before -- four people we knew ( just a bit older than we were ) went out for New Years....involved in an accident and all four died in the crash. It left such a mark on me that I think about it nearly every year at this time. That was 47 years ago...you'd think I'd have turned the page by now, but not yet.
I'll be back in the morning....see you then.
Hugs, Jackie

You're right, Jackie! It's really quiet around here. I guess everyone is resting up from Christmas and gearing up for New Year's Eve. I got most of my grocery shopping done for tomorrow night so now I need to put the final touches on the house and organize the entertainment. Dave and I are heading out again after he gets home tonight to pick up the alcoholic beverages that we need and some last minute things. And yes.......I am serving sleigh rides as my after dinner drink! LOL
Our snow prediction in Central Illinois has gone from three inches to "an inch with flurries" which is just fine with me!
I hope everyone is doing well. I've had you in my thoughts, Juliet! Please keep us informed!
Blackjack......did you escape this winter wonderland during your holiday break? If you headed back for Vegas, I'm really upset that you didn't take me with you. I still think that some of us should just hop a plane and head for Vegas for a few days. Wouldn't we have fun????
Well, I'm off to get the day started. I'll check back later.

Morning girls....I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. I am stopping by for a quick hello. This is a busy time of year for me. I have been busy getting ready for New Years as it is my turn to host the party. We are having a big party so I have been cooking and cleaning in between birthday celebrations. We have a theme party every New Year so this year it is rock and roll. You are required to dress as your favorite rock star. My dd boyfriend's band is playing so it will be fun. Then back to work on Monday.
Rita...no trip to the beach this break but going to LV in 2 weeks for some fun. It's my girl's trip. If you want to plan a trip to LV count me in....maybe spring...
Laura...going to the gym..good for you. Hope you have a great New Year.
Wendy...where have you been. Cuddled up at home. Hope you have a great New Year too.
Jackie...how are you doing. I see you don't have too much snow. I will send you some of yours. lol My bff got a new girl puppy yesterday..11 weeks old poodle /bichon mix. Need to think of a name. Any idea's..
Bustermom...thinking of you and hope you are doing well. Do you have a plan yet.
Well I have to run as I have a ton to do today before it starts to snow. Wishing everyone a wonderful healthy and happy New Year. Remember to be safe out there. Thank you all for your wonderful support and freindship. You are all special angels to me.
Hugs to all and have a great day.

Morning! Have been busy the last few days...lots going on. My niece gave us all a scare...abd. pain, lots of vomiting, severe headache. Ended up in the hospital...turns out it was "just" an ovarian cyst that had ruptured, coupled with sudden onset of migraines...and a little stomach flu thrown in. They kept her for a couple of days as they felt that she bled too much and her counts were too low to go home. She's home and feeling mucho better since last night. Whew.
Had a hard time getting the Z started yesterday...I did let it sit for almost 11 days what with the torrential rains, then the ice and then the blizzard. So...it has been 3 years...off I went to get a new battery after the gym. And now...the gym....seems there is a HUGE difference between going to my old gym and yakking with the girls and then joining a REAL gym and actually WORKING OUT. Ouch. And I thought I was in shape! HAH!!!!! Double HAH!!!!! And today is our 32nd anniversary! Wow. 32 years. Of course I got married was I was 10.....LOL
Juliette....yes it does sound like a plan. HOWEVER....why not get a 2nd opinion? And no...I am not saying that for any specific reason other than....why not get a 2nd opinion? I had 3, and I know BJ I think had at least 3 and a lot of the girls had 2. This is your 2nd go-around and maybe fresh eyes???? Just worried about you.....hugs to you honey!
Karin....good to hear from you! You know...you never did tell us about what kind of year you had. You suggested that something had happened and you promised us the story. I hope you are OK....and all your loved ones as well.
Irene...the thing about alcohol was the latest study that said that even moderate drinking (1-2 drinks per week) could cause an increase in recurrance for bc survivors. It was at about 34% increase over our already increased chances...which I figured out to be for me...if my math was correct....COULD raise my chances by another 6%. So.....it creeped me out enuf to reconsider my 3 glass of wine per week. I've not exactly stopped all the way but I think I am heading there. Maybe. The study is here on this forum somewhere under the news category. Did you get that little lumpy thing looked at??? Remember Juiliette and Karin....just saying!
Rita...your party sounds like fun! Enjoy! AND....you don't have to drive!
Jackie....and your story is why we don't go out anymore. Too many crazy people. Home and in my jammies is where I will be.
BJ....WOW! A theme party and a band???? Sounds fun! You enjoy girlfriend!
Laura....temps in the 30's would be nice BUT I don't see that coming in the next week. In fact, I just glanced up and GUESS WHAT?????? I'ts freakin' snowing.....again. Oh yay. Snow.
Donna.....I hope DH has such an extremely quiet 48 that he naps straight thru!
Well....time to empty the DW and put the clothes in the dryer. And then my lean cuisine while watching Y&R...cannot believe that Sharon married Adam. That girl is an idiot!

Hi ladies -
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and is looking forward to the new year. We had a nice one and we are now in MI waiting to celebrate the new year. Should be fun. The weather says a possible 6-12 inches is coming our (MI) way.
Juliet - glad to hear that you have a plan of action. I didn't get a second opinion the first time around because it was such a shocking time but if I had any questions/concerns/doubts now I would do that. You are in my prayers!
Take care everyone!

Hi! Just stepping in. Very busy....but fun here. The fun was interrupted as a high school friend who was also a friend from my church died of diabetes and what that does to the kidney. Just returned from the funeral mass. It was like a gigantic reunion. Very sad.
DD is hosting a traditional high tea tea party for a few today. Should be interesting. I was in charge of the crumpets and guess what? I found them! They are very bland and they are suppose to better for you than regular bread (no fat).
I made a surprise for all of you and I need to get it out. Look for it soon in your mailin the next few weeka.
All is well. Have been trying to cut down on my BC.org computer time as I found I was spending too much time on it. So now that is the third thing I am reducing (wine, milk and computer time). I am attempting to live a bit more deliberately...now I have to figure out how to do that! Happy new Year!

-- Thomas Moore0 -
Good morning all. My restraint is marvelous -- I was sitting here at 3:30 a.m. with a gigantic hot flash ( one of the very few I now get -- always at night when they do come ) and made myself read only.
Wendy -- I would name that dog Furby. My Poncho is a Bishon-Poo and if hers does like mine there will be extreme, curly fur --- if left alone for awhile it will come up right through the toes and the dog will look like it has those house shoes ( not as numerous now ) that are a walking puff of fur. I have always regretted not naming Poncho that -- but as a tiny puppy he did not have the fur he would later. Ok -- there is my idea and why. Don't remember which one as I did not have small children but Furby was a character in a kids movie or program on t.v. if memory isn't failing me.
My cousin made something I am taking over to my friends house tonight. It is cream cheese and the dressing on it is horseradish and apple jelly. It is quite tasty. Guess I am going to have to google for the recipe as I forgot to ask her for it. Served with crackers.
Well, I am off the the day....starting a little tired. Hot flash came so late it was hard to go back to sleep. It won't be a hard day anyway so that is ok. Dh has the day off though he works tomorrow. Hope you are all going to have an ok day. See you later when I check in..
Hugs, Jackie
