Happy New Year to one and all. Guess I was really tired, huh!!!!
For me as always it has been a great year. Many twists and turns, and some I might have done without, but I hope through them all I grew. I keep hoping that I -- in fact, that we all get better and learn from both the positive and the negative and move on in solid directions no matter just which path our lives end up taking.
May we all be better, stronger, wiser, more compassionate, much healthier and able to look back feeling that we did our best so we can move forward to the new year and its blessings un-encumbered.
Blessings and love to all my friends.
Hugs, Jackie

Happy New Year ! I appologize for not checking in. I hope you are all well. I am chugging right along,
I have a question??? I have found several small lumps on top of my tissue expander. Just under the skin. Did any of you have that? I showed my Onc he sent me to the plastic surgeon. He said he didnt know Usually TE are smooth. He said it could possibly be fat. He wants the surgeon to cut some samples and test and at the same time switch out my TE. He also said if the otherside dosent soften up from the radiation he will not be able to do my implant. I will have to go to loyola and they will do a skin flap from my back. My main concern right now are these bumpy lumps ...I hope and pray its ok. This side was originally pre cancer and I had it removed as precaution.

Buddy - Try NOT to worry...(easier said than done)...are the bumps similar to a rash? And if not...how many any what size are they?

"Happy New Year !" That greeting will be said and heard for at least the first couple of weeks as a new year gets under way. But the day celebrated as New Year's Day in modern America was not always January 1.
ANCIENT NEW YEARS
The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring). The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth , of planting new crops, and of blossoming. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary.
Thought you might enjoy a little New Years history but wanted to keep it small. I am thrilled to be starting another new year for the 365 days I will have to try and improve -- anything that comes onto my path. Always strive for things to be a little better and I think life will be good for all of us.
It is bitter cold here right now but the sun is out and that always inspires me with hope. Hope the sun is out for all of you as well.
We stayed with our friends last evening ( oh, the nibbles ) until the Times Square Ball came down at 11 p.m. here -- good enough for us to call it a night. Had 3 drinks thru the night -- hey, it was New Years after all, but I'll be good now. I'm not that much of a drinker anyway. Hope all of you had a safe and sound evening of it whatever you did.

'Your task is to build a better world,' God said. I answered, 'How?... this world is such a large, vast place, and there's nothing I can do.' But God said, in all His wisdom, 'just build a better you.'

Buddy, I know these bumps are driving you crazy but there are so many different things that they can be.....cysts, radiation aftermath (I had a hardened ridge with a few hard bumps and I was petrified until I found out what it was!), keloid scar tissue from the expander surgery or initial surgery. I know our minds always go first to the "big c" issue, but try not to freak out too much until you really know what it is. It is good to get it checked out. That will give you peace of mind.
It's cold here, too, Jackie. I'm going to brave the cold and hunt a few more bargains this afternoon. I can only do so much football! LOL
Happy New Year! Enjoy your day!

Great quote, Jackie! I sent it to my two daughters.
Yesterday we spent five hours in the Milwaukee Museum (Natural History) and loved it. I would suggest a visit for people living nearer to Milwaukee.
Buddy, of course you are concerned but the oncologist passed it off to the surgeon and if an oncologist doesn't see cancer, it very most likely is not. Of course you should followup just so you can move on.
Happy New Year. I just know BJ is feeling that dread of ending the vacation! I had it for over 20 years! It feels good to know my vacation continues, but heaven knows I put inmy time! Susan

Good afternoon and Happy New Year to all. I hope everyone had a safe and happy celebration. As for me I am sooooooo tired today. We had way to much fun last night...I think my head hit the pillow at 4 am. Today I am a lazy butt...as Wendy calls it. But I am thankful for all the good thing in my life,my family, my friends, being Ned and of course all of you.
Jackie...thank you for the wonderful quote today and the history of New Year's. You are the quote girl and I look forward to many more this new year.
Buddy.. I hope all goes well with your md appt. It may be nothing to worry about..but it is good to get it checked out.
Zap... I have been to the Milwaukee Museum and it is amazing. So many thing to see,..wow.Yes Monday is back to school day, not really looking forward this week. It will be soo busy with the flu clinic scheduled for Friday. But I will weather it as I always do.lol
Rita.... how was your party. Fun I am sure. Did you serve those sleigh ride drinks. I just got a bottle of Denmark wine and chocolate liqueur. It taste like Baily's but you get the benefits of wine and chocolate together. Antioxidantes for sure. So does this count for drinking lol
Laura.. Happy New Year to you. Wishing you and dh all good things this new year. Hope you had a nice evening.
Wendy....are you still at the beach. I think Hawaii is calling you with those airfares. lol Spring break. hmm
Donna.. glad to see you are doing well. Happy New Year to you.
Ginny.. glad to see that your txs are working for you . Wishing you good healthy this New Year.
To all the others that I missed I hope you are all doing well...enjoying life.
Well I am off to clean up after the party...not what I really want to do but must. lol Then I am off to the couch for the rest of the evening. Have a wonderful weekend.. stay warm it is really cold out there.
Remember to be healthy... be happy and enjoy your life.

Hope everyone had a good New Years, kind of glad it is all over as it is time to get this year started. To think a year ago.. I was preparing for surgery and all that went with it. Look at what occurs in just one year!!!
Black Jack..thanks for you New Year wishes and good to see you. Laura.. been meaning to ask you..any updated pics of Paulie?! That face just makes me smile and want to kiss it!!
Buddy...what Susan and ALL said, no worries until it is seen and sounds like the aftermath of RADS can do alot and cause weird textures etc. Prayin for answers so you can move on to the step of reconstruction!
Stay warm all and not sure if i will do my list as i thought i would be!

If I thought it was cold before -- it is absolutely bone-chilling cold out of doors. Glad that the sun it out, but it is not going to do all that much. Just pray we don't get too much of a wind. Oddly, I'd feel a mite better about this if there were some snow to go with it. ( Sorry all my northern friends ) but it would seem a little more reasonable to be so cold.
I definitely felt a longing for spring which is not coming for a while. I think I'll look through my movies and see if I have any which are set in summertime. Donna, I am not surprised the Goldens don't like the idea of venturing out. Oddly, Baby Boss, my Pomeranian loves it. Poms are descended from Chows which were used as sled dogs -- so for such a small dog he welcomes the cold and snow. Often uses his little snout like a snow shovel when we do have snow.
Buddy...thinking of you and hoping all goes well at your appt.
Bj -- I'm definitely thinking of being a stow-away when you go to Las Vegas. This cold weather is really the pits, but I am going to grit my teeth and just get out there and do what I have to do. That is mainly feeding feral cats -- Maggie just can't get out in this weather.
Hope those of you who can will find fun things to do inside today if its as cold at your house and it is at mine.
I'll be checking back later.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi girls!
Been keeping busy throughout the holidays. Had a nice dinner on NY'sEve - had some friends over and dh cooked for us. Shrimp DeJohn, Rib-Eye Roast, mashed garlic potatoes AND chocolate fondue for dessert. Spent New Year's day with my cousins and their kids - they are a great group!
Hope you're all staying warm...brrrrrrrrrrrrr it's c,c,c, cold out there!

Donna this one's for you! This isn't Paulie though (have to take some photos of him)...it's Buddy. Buddy died last January...I still miss him! Sniff, sniff!

Good morning everyone and it is a very chilly, frosty morning. Sun is muted right now but sure will help if it gets out full force.
Hard to believe Buddy has been gone for a year now Laura. You seem to be a lot different with Paulie. How is your hubby's job seeking coming along. Back to work yet ??
Well, after all my griping about the cold was sitting here yesterday morning at the computer and all of a sudden noticed I felt much cooler than I expected. ( Our furnace is an outdoor one so you don't much hear anything. ) Well, looked at the thermostat and it said 66. So spent until mid-afternoon until we could get someone out -- and thank goodness, it is fine now. Carbon Monoxide unit in place -- did have the local Fire Dept. come out and check the house with their hand-held device and all was fine. I have something wonderful to be thankful for this early in the New Year that is for sure.
Hope you are all going to have a wonderful Sunday.
Hugs, Jackie

*HAPPY NEW YEAR* I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you got some good news! I hope more & more good news keeps coming your way. You deserve it.
I had a wonderful Christmas & New Years (okay, I fell asleep at 9:30pm, but did wake up before the stroke of midnite.)
I'm really not freaking out about this dx. After careful consideration, and doing some research, I am comfortable with the tx plan that was presented to me.
Going to ob/gyn to discuss surgery. A full hysto may be recommended, since I had that huge uterine polyp removed during my bmx, and I've also got fibroids. I've got scar tissue from an appendectomy, which may not allow lapro surgery - but we'll see. I'm just gonna get through it, deal with it.... and move forward.
Scans are 2morrow a.m., and then I meed with rads onco in the afternoon. A fun day at the hospital, haha. Hubby will be with me, which is so nice.
Thanks everyone for listening, and for your support, and for the helpful information - esp. from you ladies who had insta-pause due to the oophorectomy; I may PM you if you dont' mind.
Believe it or not, right now the most stressful part of all this is my JOB! My boss doesn't have an ounce of compassion in his body about this. And, they will take away my benefits once I hit 5 days of unpaid leave, etc.... oh well. I'm not protected by FMLA yet, so it is what it is. Screw 'em. Good thing I'm on hubby's health insurance. phew!
OK, time to get ready for a lunch with some friends. Hugs to all of you - thanks again so much!

Julie:
Oh, that is awful. It sounds like they know they cannot fire someone with cancer legally, so they drop the health care benefits. The hardest part for you must be showing up every day when you know what happens after 5 days of unpaid leave. In spite of all that YOUR ATTITUDE IS SUCH A WINNING ONE! You seem ready to go and beeat this cancer and I admire you so much!
Jackie, those quotes get better everyday as they hit so close to home.
Susan

Julie...I second everything Susan said -- sometimes taking care of our attitude is the one thing that will help us keep winning in spite of what the rest of the world wants to throw at you. There are rocks in every road -- you are climbing over yours really well.
Susan -- glad too that you like the quotes. I always look for ones that speak to me and I am doubly delighted when they speak to someone else.
Sun is down now and our 17 degrees will be colder or at least feel that way. Dh had the day off so we are having a pizza supper in front of the big screen t.v. and movies -- if he got the adapter set up right.
Hope you all had a wonderful Sunday. Mine was busy feeding feral cats and helping out at Maggie's but that is ok. Gave Denny time to work on t.v. set-up and install the new shower-head. See you all later. Stay warm.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Bustersmom-I just want to say that I think your attitude is great and I admire you too! You will get through it, and move forward, and we will be here with you whenever we're needed.

Morning all....wow. A heat wave on my deck. It's a whole 9.5 degrees. Yesterday at this time it was a MINUS 9.3. Get out the lounge chairs.....
Juliette.....I am so glad that you have your plan in mind, have thought it all out and are very comfortable with your and your team's decisions. And you do have the best attitude! I doubt very much I would be handling this all so gracefully. Sorry about your boss and your benefits but I'm sorry to say it just doesn't surprise me anymore. But...;you do have good ins. and you have your husband to be with you today so for that I am happy. The job will sort itself out later. Count me in as one who fell asleep around 9:30! I did wake up to the sound of fireworks at midnight tho...
BJ.....as you can see, Juliette and I would have been quite the additions to your party! We would have been the 2 girls, asleep in the corner! Sounds like you had a great time. So...off to school for you today and DH as well. (I am secretly singing "Happy Days Are Here Again"!!!!!! - not that I don't love my husband but I get the house back and I can clean it from top to bottom and I have no one around to follow me about the house - all the while asking, wanna go out for lunch, wanna go out for breakfast, wanna go out for dinner????)
Jackie....DH and I rented "The Hangover" for our BIG Saturday night. It started VERY slow but I have to admit - it was funny! And where exactly did that chicken come from???? I also rented for myself "Julie and Julia" which I thought was pretty good. Meryl Streep really nailed Julia Child.
Laura.....count me in as one who has been trying to keep up with the gym. Sure is a big change for me tho. Obviously I spent waaaaay to much time yakking with the girls, and not enuf time sweating. But I will get better. In fact....I've already been able to up the weights on the machines. And yes...why is it exactly that as soon as you add MEN to a gym it gets a little locker roomy smell??? Hmmmmm.....Also got those new toning gym shoes. I didn't get the Sketchers but chose Avia brand - Kohls had them on sale and they weren't as strange-feeling as the Sketchers. But I did read that you are supposed to start slowly with these so I won't bring them to the gym until I get used to them.
Budders and Rene....don't forget to get your little lumps/bumps checked out this week. Please!
Well...I see the clock is ticking...DH is downstairs already...and I should get rolling here. Off to the gym, then to return the movies..then home to clean top to bottom. After lunch I will spend one hour each day this week, putting away all the Christmas stuff...as neatly as possible. I usually start out good and then just stuff the rest in wherever.
Have a wonderful day and I don't think I mentioned it yet but....
GINNY......WONDERFUL NEWS! I am so happy for you and your family! I told DH and he was almost as excited as I was by the news. You are to him the "pink blanket lady"! Hugs to you! Big smile on my face!!!!!
