You sound full of energy... Hugs,
Catherine

OMG Leah, I just spit coffee all over the screen! Too Funny

Leah -- Your avatar describes exactly how we all feel about our breast(s) now. Remember Carynn and bead boy! And I think Marsha had some funny anecdotes as well.
After my recent onc visit, I was telling folks that it was the first time I had paid someone just to feel me up!
OK ... I need to get back to work ... deadlines looming. Plus, I made the mistake of hinting to a co-worker that he needs to be quicker on revisions for a project we're working on. So, now the revisions are coming fast and furious and I feel I have to keep up with him - LOL! I'm struggling, so I may have to concede defeat!!
Hugs,
Hillary

Good morning all
I am sitting here with tears running down my face. I have not been on at all lately as I was feeling really sorry for myself with lots of little and really inconsecquencial problems mainly with swelling in my arm and chest.
I have sent a PM to you Twink.
Leah those pics were so funny and Marsha I loved the food pic - that really got a smile.
I must go and get dressed as I have been sitting here for ages reading pages of posts and getting quite cold. Want to go and get some more wool to knit another baby's jacket. Can't wait until this little one arrives. I am so pleased I will get to see my first and I hope many other grandchildren.
Big hugs to all

Godd evening Lady Piggies....I am home from 2 days at college orientation....wew!
I am sooo happy and excited for dd...it looks and sounds like she will be having soo much fun there and doing what she is looking forward to. Enough of her College in High School credits have transferred that she is at least one semester ahead. They don't have all of her transcripts yet though. The High School used 5 different colleges and they each send their own transcript.
Marsha, yes 100 people.....and that was just family, friends and her classmates. Both DH and I are from families of 6 kids...and they all have anywhere from 3 to 4 kids each! And they all live around here.
Here are some pics....did I ever tell you that I am a Type A overachiever personality?
School colors are blue & gold.
DH & his beer doing the burgers and dogs...hot dogs that is. Our dog is supervising!
The desert table....I baked the cakes and cookies. My mother has had the graduation hat cake recipe since 1997! She just located it this year.
Well....no more grad parties for 2 more years now.
I couldn't help thinking though, as I was preparing all of this, what if I am not here for the baby showers, bridal showers, wedding receptions. That is why I wanted to make the pary nice and memorable for her.
Twink....I saw a beanie baby pink piggie in the college bookstore....thought about you. Hope you are feeling well today.
Got to go unpack and start the unending laundry....talk later.
Love

Had problems with a photo but will try again. That didn't work either but I have joined the piggy club. Oh well will try again later. I missed my DD's graduation from Edinburgh University for her Ph D. Just too far to ga and I couldn't get time off school.
We have a thunder storm here at present.

Terry, I love the graduation sandwiches! How cool. You really are an over achiever aren't you? LOL
Alyson, hey there girl, how's it going with you? Nice to see you posting again. Is that "when pigs fly?" haha
Melanie, where are you? Hawaii maybe? When are you heading to Disney again?
Catherine, all is well here in Florida. DH is fine, the doggies are spoiled rotten and BNO is still going strong. I've got some achiness with the tamoxifen but otherwise OK. You sound busy, are you back home from your travels?
0 -
Marsha...those are miniature cupcakes!
Happy Weekend all.

Hmmmm....I guess it has been a bit since I have checked in. I am definitely not in Hawaii! Just doing the normal summer stuff. We will be back in Disney in September, but we will not have any "adult time" as we are bringing the little ones. But...we might try to make another trip down a bit later in the year!
Terry; The party looks to be a huge success! I can tell you put an enormous amount of work in the event.
Twilah; I figured the time was coming for the hair to leave you. I know you donated your wigs and I hope you find another glam wig that does you justice. You are on my mind...

Hi, Twilah....thinking about you and wondering how you are doing....

Feeling pretty good here. Dad left this morning but says he'll be back very soon. My sister and her husband arrived from Toronto yesterday but will be leaving tomorrow... just a quick visit. They're on a bike and said the ride through the Poconos (they took a few hour detour beforearriving yesterday) was spectacular! I'm napping less, in fact hardly at all and other than the continuing plugged ears, everything has improved so dramatically from last week that I can hardly beleive how low I was. I wonder if the Lexapro is starting to kick in... did you say 6 wks Hillary? It's humid and threatening thunder and lightening storms here again today. I may try and do a bit of 'real' work tomorrow...starting to feel quite guilty on that front. Party looks like a huge hit Terry! ahhhh....sigh... Melanie... Disneyworld... what fun!
Hugs piglets. Love you all.

Morning all! Just popping in to say hi!
Catherine - I was thinking about our rhubarb conversation from last year. I need to find a good recipie and surprise DH with some.
Leah - Oh my, just love the "new you!"
Hillary - That's hilarious that you remember Bead Boy! Sure would like to know where he's interning now!
Alyson - How nice to see you! I hope that you are feeling better these days. I was in the same mood for the past month. Trust me, I get it. You mentioned that it was cold, what has the temperature been? We are 110 - 117 (Fahrenheit) these days. Great swimming weather! I really did miss it last year, so I'm savoring every hot moment (flashes not included!!)
Terry - The party looked absolutely fabulous!! There is a big (seats 7500) church on the other side of our mountain. Every year the Sunday before the 4th of July they do about a 45 minute fireworks display. It's one of the largest displays in the Valley. In fact, it's tonite! DH and I used to have legendary parties to coincide with it as the best seat in town for it is right in my own backyard! We used to have about 100 for it every year. This year it's DH & I and my best friend and her husband. I miss the party, but not the cleanup!!
Marsha - You sound busy as usual! How's things? Glad to hear that all is well with you and yours.
Melanie - Are you watching the race? My guy actually usually does pretty well at NMS. Nothing to exciting tho quite yet.
Twink! You sound like you! I'm glad that you are feeling better. Are you still working? If so, hope you're able to do it remotely. That was a godsend for me last year.
Not too much to report here, although this has been a very busy weekend. DH is remodeling the den, so I had to redo the cabling this morning, so we can move stuff out / around. Friday we went to a political thing. Was a lot of fun. Yesterday was our anniversary and we went to Ruth's Chris for dinner. It was divine! And tonite is the fireworks. Hoping to catch a little nap today.
Well, off to watch the race. Have a wonderful weekend!

Twink... so happy to read your post... makes my day. You sound quite close to your dad, this is wonderful that he seems very present and active.
What do you mean "feeling guilty on the work front"?? What about temporary disability benefits while you go through this new round of chemo?? Stress is not what will help you... ;-)
Enjoy the summer and get rest... eat well, etc... you know the drill...
Carynn, I had beautiful rhubarb again and shared it with my neighboors (the nice ones)... I cooked it with apples (Gala or red delicious) and it works great: takes a bit of the tartness away without requiring tons of sugar (I use organic or natural brown sugar that smells of molasses). I let it cook (simmer) for a couple of hours or so, so it's no "soupy" but not a preserve yet... It's delicious with plain yogurt or vanilla ice cream...
Terry, I am impressed!! How can you do all this? I like the cakes in the shape of the graduation hat... Your kids seem spoiled rotten... lucky them! Get rest, you do not want to overdo it either... your garden must be delightful... it's getting hot here (+ flashes... as we speak... 200 degrees at least... fff...), I did not plant anything new yet, but got tons of bachelor buttons, tall daisies and pink little roses all forming a lovely mess... cutting the bloomed stems take for ever... holy hock is being invaded by some sucking bugs... not as pretty as last year. Roses are doing great this year, everywhere around... I have so much work to do, I can't do much outside, but I'll experiment with seeds... including a blue Tibetan poppy (got the seeds at the Butchart gardens on Vancouver island... for next Spring).
Well, everybody, have a good week... hugs to ALL... need to go back to my work... sigh... the 3 dogs are taking a nap... I am jealous...
Love,
Catherine

Twilah - Yes, lexapro can take up to 6 weeks for the full effect. Dr. S can also prescribe add'l meds that play well with the lexapro and chemo. Do you know when your appt. is? Up for a lunch visit?
Also, I agree with Catherine ... can't you take disability for a bit, until your stress levels go down? If work is a good distraction, however, then go for it! (Wasn't for me, but you know why!).
Catherine - I have no green thumb ... more like a black thumb, but I've discovered a somewhat local farmer's market that has been getting most of my weekly grocery budget! Baby beets (that I roast to make them even sweeter); fresh green beans; cherries; new potatoes; wonderful heirloom tomatoes and pink cherry tomatoes; lettuce greens; cukes; strawberries; blueberries. They also had a someone selling bison meat, which is supposed to be much healthier than regular beef. I bought some to make hamburgers, which I loved but dh did not. Anyways, if they have rhubarb, I'll have to get a more exact recipe from you!
Hugs to all,
Hillary

Morning Friends. Finally getting some time to post. It's been difficult keeping my head above water - my one and only staff member had back surgery last week and I'm holding down the fort with no backup. Sunday night we had horrendous storms and I had a river of muddy water run in the driveway and into the pond (poor fishies - they were saying "hey Nemo - where are you - I can't see you"). Also had a retaining wall collapse from the rain - fell onto my new, still unfinished stampcrete - spent yesterday rebuilding the wall and cleaning gunk from the sticky 'joints' of the stampcrete (just had the 2nd coat of finish 5 hours earlier and it was still tacky).
Twink - so good to hear your spirits are up and the body is cooperating. You've been on my mind constantly. If your move is on hold for the moment, maybe we can do another lunch. I probably can't get out till late July/early August but if you're still in PA, maybe we can meet in the Allentown area - sorry to make you drive Hillary.
Hillary - I LOVE farmers markets. DD and I are heading to one in Lewisburg tomorrow morning if nothing goes awry at work before then. We have a Geisinger-owned restaurant on campus that serves bison burgers. I haven't tried them yet but I know all who have really liked them.
Marsha - love your look. Congrats on your stage successes.
Terri - Beer and grillin' - should have dropped in. Looking at the pics made me really hungry. Nice job.
Leah - wish I could do the CFR program with you. The conditions for attendance do mention being a 'local' resident though. There's one in Skytop, PA September 21-23, but I'll be in Wyoming. There was also one somewhere in MD (I think) in late August but I'll be in Switzerland for that one. I'm going to check out the 2009 schedule as soon as it's ready and see if I can find one to fit early. I did order one of the CFR Emotions kayaks tho. Should be in this week.
Can't remember everything going on with everyone else but I do think about you all - Catherine, Melanie, Carynn, SammieKay, Alyson, Jan (doing any biking?).
Love you all!
Phyl

Hi all,
Time got away from me and I realized I hadn't been here in a few days.
We did run off on Sunday and sailed out to an island about 2 hours out of Rockport. We anchored there and spent the night on the boat. It was glorious. On Monday, we sailed south to Port Aransas. That was about 3 hours from Rockport. It was very relaxing and restful for me. Relaxing for Mike but not sure about restful, as he was at the helm.
So glad to hear from you Twink, and to hear you so upbeat. It sounds like you really are feeling better. I started back on Lexapro about a month ago. I can tell a difference in about one week on Lexapro. Of course everyone is different. It also seems to curb my appetite. Might be because I am a stress eater and that reduces my stress level. Good drug. So glad your chemo seems to be working. Hope the side effects aren't too bad. Love and hugs to you sweet girl.
Wow, Terry, what a party. Your cakes were beautiful. It was quite a celebration wasn't it? I know your daughter was proud of all you did for her.
Leah, enjoy your CFR program. Let us know all about fly fishing.
Phyl, is a CFR Emotions kayak a regular kayak? And what kind of kayaking do you do? We have been thinking about getting a kayak to go along with the sailboat. Then we could paddle in to the land from the boat. I don't always want to walk in the bay water.
Caryn, I have been hearing about some really high temps in your area. I am surprised they have fireworks displays with all the grass fires. We have burn bans around here, although we just got about a half inch rain this afternoon. Really, really needed it.
Catherine, so glad to have you back with us. Are you still feeling good from your surgery? My grandmother used to make us rhubarb pie. Sounds good. How is your DH and the pups?
Hillary, is your little one doing o.k. after his little scare at the school? My grandson had a concussion once and then once they have one they are more prone to have another. However, it has been sometime since that happened to him. Are you off in the summer? That would be nice
Marsha, how was the New York trip? Have you been yet? Glad you are doing well and DH and pups too. The piggies are so cute.
Melanie, hope you are having a great summer. Taking grandchildren to Disney sound like a dream come true. Are you keeping up with the races this summer?
Allyson, hope your spirits are up by now. I guess you can have the winter blues while we are burning up. LOL Cheer up girl. Hope this find you upbeat.
I ended up not working tomorrow or Thurs and we get off for Fri. the 4th, so sounded like a vacation to me. Right? I am leaving for Houston tomorrow morning. Will spend time at the home of DD # 1 and GD home from college and GS who is in High School. She sent him upstairs to put up the folded towels in "Gammie's bathroom". Actually their guest room. He said, "well when is Gammie coming to see us anyway"? He's my boy. He is 15 now, but still Gammie's(that's me LOL) boy. I will also be visiting DD # 2 and her three little ones. The two girls live within 3 blocks of each other. Makes it nice for me.
Well, better get busy with my laundry so I can get away early tomorrow.
Love to all. Hugs all round. Sammie Kay

Sounds like we are all busy, busy...
Twilah...cyber hugs to you....this is your week off, right?
Catherine...You should see my garden. I have so much lettuce, I am giving it away! Tomatoes are growing, Peppers too. Cucumbers are doing nicely....looking forward to making pickles in a month or so. The miniature roses are soo pretty. However, I noticed some Japanese Beetles this week...so I have a mission!
Sammy - sounds like such a relaxing time...sleeping on a gently rocking boat! AHH!
Phyl - we had some torential rains also....we have a shale driveway which now has big ruts in. DH will be getting the tractor out to fix them.
Leah...love your Piggy Pic!
Marsha...nice to hear from you ....so glad you are still performing as Patsy....You're gonna be a star!
Hi to everyone else....Carynn, Melanie, Hillary
Got to get moving...going to work. Yesterday was terrible...1st of the month at the bank...ugh.
Have a great day

Good morning, all!
Today is the beginning of a nice vacation week. I will be local thru Sunday, then crashing with friends at a house they have rented on the ocean in N.H. for a few days. I am hoping we have good weather, as I need some sun on this pasty body.
Then I will have a few days for day trips, and hopefully catching up with some other friends. I get to see HIllary over the weekend while she is in Boston! That will be so much fun.
Terry, your spread at graduation was fabulous! Good for you to be able to do that!
Marsha, Miss you girl. Hope you aren't sweltering too much in Florida. We are probably hotter up here!
Carynn, Hope all is going well at work. You seem so content lately. Hope that continues, since your industry is in such turmoil.
Phyl, what can I say? I understand it all, wish you had some help at work! Life is definitely too short, It is sad that you can't make the local CFR... but if you need someone to carry your suitcase to Switzerland....
Twilah, always in my thoughts. Waiting for you to need me! Just ask.
Melanie, give those sticky, sweaty, buggy grandkids a big hug from me.
Catherine, stay busy and sane. It is tough to be work busy in the summer, but you can do it! Just take time to smell those beautiful flowers.
Allyson, I can tell you that having bouts of 'depression' is part of the process. I call it 'going to the dark place". If you let it, allowing yourself to go there teaches you things about what is important and what you are fighting for. And every time you come through the other side, you fear going there less.
Anyone I forgot, Forgive me. I will be in touch.
Love,
Leah

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY FELLOW CHEMO CRUISERS!
TWILAH, JUST FOR YOU!
0 -
Hi, girls... I like the mood here... I think it is because we are all elated by Twink posting about feeling so much better she wanted to go back to work... Twilah, hope the treatment is already taking over and you'll see improvement from now on... What are your 4th going to be? Wishing you a lovely summer week-end with family, friends and the puppy dog (how is that cough doing? gone I hope). How are the older dogs doing with the new kid? Do you eat better? Drop us a note as soon as you feel like it, OK?
Leah, you sound upbeat... sounds like a great vacation... take pictures of the sea in NH... we've not had a drop of rain in weeks... I miss Seattle weather a bit... but the yard is still OK. I DO take the time to go smell my lovely roses... first thing when I get up, I go barefoot in the yard "visit" with my flowers... and it is linden tree time here, our neighborhood is deliciously fragrant...
Lots of work, but it's going pretty well.
My worry is DH: he mentioned this morning that his leg was hurting, I looked at it, and thought it was swollen and hard (which he had not realized... men and their body consciousness -- or lack of!!), I suspected right away a clot... by luck he had his routine GP appt. this afternoon. She sent him for an ultra-sound which confirmed a fairly large clot in his thigh, in fact: he will have to give himself heparin shots (or equivalent) twice a day for a week, and take coumarin for 6 months... hopefully, the clot will desintegrate by itself with no pieces travelling to bad places... it may be a consequence of the 2 weeks driving around, although we stopped every 2 hours for the dogs... walking around, etc. And he walks at least 2 miles every day... go figure. He seems fine and the GP just told him not to get into rough sports...
Marsha, Hillary, Carynn, SammieKay (what about Skype, ladies??), Terry, Pat, Phyl, Alison... wishing you a nice week-end. Take care, love to all, and special hugs to you, Twink... I have pictures to post, but must finish my work first... till soon,
Catherine

Happy 4th everybody!
I don't have a lot of time this morning. It's going to be a crazy busy weekend. As I mentioned, we're remodeling the den. We are now into it in earnest. We've cancelled our plans for a trip to the mountains to stay home and get it pretty much finished this weekend. DH has finished the drywall and painting. Today we are sponging one wall. Neither of us has done it before, so wish us luck!
I bought a new vacuum yesterday. Needed a new one for a while, and of course now I have drywall dust everywhere; so now is the time. I bought a Dyson. I've wanted one for a long time, and I'm pleased to say that it was worth every penny. I've always prided myself on the fact that I have pets in the house, but you wont sit on my furniture and get pet hair etc. Oh my, it's almost embarrassing to see what this vacuum picks up! I can honestly say at this point I will never own anything other than a Dyson.
We are laying both carpet and tile. The tile is about half way complete, and the carpet guys wont be here until next week, but by tomorrow, we should be done with everything else; then we are picking out furniture.
So today, while DH finishes up the "manly" jobs in the Den, I'm starting in the back corner of the house and cleaning. Tell me again why I have 3000 sq. ft for two people, two cats and a dog?? Anyway, before my dx we had remodeled everything but two rooms. I don't think we're going to redo the living room so this should be the end of it. I just cant wait until it's done!!
Catherine - I'm so sorry to hear about your DH. I know you'll take good care of him. Hope he's on the mend real soon.
Twink - Sending you a hug and wishes that youre feeling great today.
Leah - Have a wonderful vacation!
I know I've missed so many of you & I had so much more to say, but it's time to get moving.
Sending big hugs to you all. Have a safe and Happy 4th!

Catherine, very concerning news about your DH. I hope the situation gets resolved quickly and uneventfully. Marsha...what can I say...OINK? Hahaha. Love the outfit, so patriotic.
My wonderful SIL arrived today along with my only brother. I'm looking forward to a relaxing long weekend with my visitors. I've been eating like a pig (coincidence?) and have gained 3 pounds. My father likes to take credit for the weight gain as anytime I mentioned a craving of any sort during his visit, he fulfilled it, then gleefully checked on my morning weigh in.
I'm feeling okay. Still quite morose most days but I do think the Lexapro is keeping this at a minimum. Having a hard time sleeping most nights. The ativan doesn't seem sufficient so I'll talk to the onc about that next week. Last night I felt I had restless leg syndrome for hours which made it very difficult to get comfortable. No pain to speak of though so that's good.
Phillip is off to Dallas on Sunday night to look at homes. I know the timing of all of this is the worst and I'm in a real quandary about how to proceed. For the time being, I'm carrying on with the plans to sell here and move to Dallas over the summer. We'll see how it plays out. I've engaged an attorney to help with the ins/outs of the move, new job, relo cost reimbursement, etc.
Phyl, I'd love to lunch with you before I leave the state. Doesn't have to be here in Allentown though. If Philly works, we can schedule something around my treatment schedule and Hillary can join us without the long drive. Just let me know what you think. Treatments are on Wednesdays and I think the 2nd in the 3 tx cycle is just abraxane so doesn't take as long. If Hillary's schedule permits, maybe lunch two weeks from next Wednesday?
Melanie, funny idea I had the other day... asking you to meet DH in Dallas and help with the house shopping... he's kinda hopeless. Perhaps not this trip but another one that might coincide with your schedule? Just a thought.
Leah, you have a wonderful vacation. I may just need your company when you have a free weekend. Something as simple as that would mean alot. BTW, I love your avatar. I knew you'd chose the risque one.
Sammie Kay, Carynn, Terry... hugs to you.
Love

Twink: I would be happy to help Phil. Edwin and I need to make a trip to the big D anyway. I would say that we could meet him this trip, but I am in ICU with my mother right now. She is on a respirator and sedated. We don't know when she will get to come off of that.
I would love to respond to the posts, but my focus is elsewhere right now.
Thinking of you all....

Melanie -- sending you warm and supportive hugs and optimistic wishes for your Mother's speedy recovery.

GAWD Marsha! I can't believe what I'm wearing on my feet...hehehehe... that got an 'out-loud guffaw' from me and everybody in the kitchen when I unwrapped the package. Of course, I had to tell everybody about my gang of piglets for the signficance to be understood. I'm going to post a pic shortly. Love you Marsha. Thank you!
Twilah (still laughing)

Oh Twilah, I'm thrilled to get an "out-loud guffaw" out of you! A little silly fun to let you know I'm thinking of you. Wasn't sure you, the shoe whore, would ACTUALLY wear them or not! hahaha I thought you could take them with you on treatment day to keep your piggies warm and lighten the mood a bit. Love you right back.
Melanie, what is going on with your mom?? A respirator? That sounds serious? Thinking of you, let us know how she is doing.
Hugs to everyone!

HI guys,
Back from DD in Houston. Had a wonderful time. Everyone is well.
Real concerned about Catherine's DH and MelanieW's DM. I hope and pray they both heal quickly. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how they are doing and you guys too.
It has been so long since I caught up, I may just start from here.
Had a chuckle about Marsha's gift, sure it was cute piglet slippers. LOL Hope you are conitnuing to feel better, Twilah. Hugs and love sent your way. How is the new baby pup?
Great party Terry. Wow, what talent you have.
Well, guess I better get busy. It is Monday and back to work tomorrow. Love to all, Sammie Kay

Well, Leah and I have almost completed our plans to meet on Sunday in Boston! I'm very excited ... we only had a short (well, 3 hour!) luncheon with Phyl(!) as F2F time before. Maybe we can arrange some late night Skype sessions!!
Today, I'm escorting a friend to see a neurosurgeon about a meningioma that's pressing on her optic nerve. A couple of weeks ago, she woke up realizing that she had started to lose sight in one of her eyes. After a trip to an emergency room, and several scans and tests later, she was diagnosed with meningioma, which is typically a benign tumor in the meninges (a series of membranes that surround and protect the nervous system in the brain and spinal cord) . Her MRI results have been read by two radiologists who both agree its benign, so right now she's more freaked about the surgery. Her dh can't make today's appointment, so I offered to drive/wait with her/ and (most importantly) take notes during the consult. I feel its really important for me to help her out. I know that prior to my diagnosis, I had no concept about how scary all of this seems and how important it is to have friends that offer to do the right thing. Somehow by helping her, I'm making up for all the times that I wasn't cognizant about other friends' problems.
Twilah - chemo tomorrow? Virtual hand-holding for your third and fourth and fifth arms! We still haven't seen photos of Martha's gift, which we all have surmised must be piggy slippers? Will you wear them for your chemo session???
Hugs to all,
Hillary
