Wow CCFW you are really on a roll with the unusual words!

Today the cabinet man came and verified the dimensions in my kitchen. He found one place where the size cabinet I picked would not fit, but we just made it the next size narrower, which solved that problem. But it's a good thing he checked the size of each cabinet and not just the overall dimension, otherwise I would have gotten a nasty surprise when they started to install the kitchen! Now I need to get cracking and choose a sink and faucets.

I have been working in my garden a little each day. The dirt next to the house is too high up all across the back and one end of the house, so I have been digging out to get it at least 6" below the bottom of the wood. I haven't quite figured out how to handle the grade change once I get it all dug out and sloping away from the house like it should. All that digging could have given me a sore wrist or aching back...but I'm happy to say it hasn't. I have been doing about half an hour a day, weather permitting. Maybe I will increase that to 45 minutes or an hour at a time.

CCFW, you are very creative! Glad you can join us here.

Curveball, it's great that this cabinet man is a real professional and didn't take your dimensions without inspection. Saved you so much stress! It's great you're getting a good start on the garden before winter. It would be tough if the tall grass turned to straw and the weeds added to the work. Are you happy getting settled into your new home?

heehee 2TA, last summer, before I moved into the house, the grass did turn to straw! I had to get the contractor's helper to mow it. Now the fall rains are here, and it's getting tall again. I want to cover it with cardboard and mulch to smother the grass and turn into flower and vegetable beds, but the normal horrible weekend did a number on my checking account and I have no spare cash to buy a load of bark for mulch. I'm determined not to take out any more money until next year. I will just have to start by doing the things I can do without spending any money. One thing at a time.

oh my stars! I know how quickly money goes and how little it covers! Maybe it's a good thing that cool weather and winter are coming so you can rest up a bit, and rest your wallet too!

Well, I don't have much alternative but to give my wallet a breather, but I will keep plugging on until stopped by rain, snow or freeze. I like cool weather better than hot, so fall and spring are my prime time for gardening. Today I got the grade lowered as far as the corner of the house. Next comes the south face. There is a lilac bush there that will have to be removed to get the soil next to the house down where it should be. That's the next item on the agenda. It seems like everything is still in bits and pieces...I need to think how I will make all the separate parts of the yard fit together in a cohesive whole.

I'll be good 2TA. Besides, this time of year it's very likely that drops of rain will start to fall from the sky before I have had time to overdo. That's what happened today--it started raining after 45 minutes or so. I stayed out a little longer and before it got too wet to continue I got the that lilac bush almost dug out. There is one big root underneath that is too big to cut with the hand clipper, but I have a little pruning saw I can cut it with--mañana.

I was a little out of breath when I came back inside, but last year, during CMF chemo, I can remember I got equally out of breath just helping my mother change the sheets on her bed, so it looks like I did recover a little stamina over the summer before starting taxol. Also, I just found out that my tx, which Dr F (my onc before I moved) had described as "weekly taxol" is actually a three-on-one-off schedule. This coming Wednesday is the fourth week and should be a week off, but Dr W (my local onc) has OK'd doing the infusion this week and skipping next week, the day before Thanksgiving, instead. Then, doing three more weeks after that will put the next week off on Christmas Day. This has really simplified figuring out how to work around the holidays--the only one that falls on an infusion day is New Year's, and I will wait until later to figure that out with Dr W.

Hi girls, Sounds like you have been so busy Curve, but I am so glad things are falling into place. I didn't get home till late last night, and we are heading for Vegas in the morning....BUT I got sick starting on Saturday night. Trying to just rest, but I did have to wash clothes, and have to unpack and repack. Just have the sore throat, cough, congestion, runny nose. BUT didn't cough on the flights yest, which I am so glad of. Taking cold meds and keeping a good stock of throat lozenges handy. Hoping I will feel much better tomorrow. Yesterday was rough as I had the 3+hr drive to the airport by myself, and the Dallas airport is horrendous, lots of construction on interstate, lots of traffic, etc. Both airports I was in were overcrowded with people....many flights delayed or cancelled with the bad weather in some states yest. AND lots of drips of rain were falling when I got home. Hi!!! Bye!!!!Winking

Bon Voyage, wahine. Will you be staying home when you get back from Vegas?

It went from just drizzling this afternoon to really coming down tonight, so no more gardening (except maybe to saw off that one root of the lilac bush and cut it in pieces to go in the yard waste container) until the soil dries out a bit. Digging when it is this wet will just pack it down as hard as bricks. But no matter--there are still plenty of boxes to unpack!

Hi girls, up early and need to get going. Curve, today will be hard on the plane rides as I still am sick. Hope I don't pass along any germs. Not coughing now, just congested, so will take precautions. We'll get to be home for a few days before heading to NY and Iceland! My parents are still in HI, so we are doing what we can while they are away, but now I am worn out! lol. take care!!!!

@wahine, what are you doing, trying to revitalize the airline industry by your own efforts?Winking

I bet you are worn out--it sounds like you've had a busy few days, and with a cold on top of it. I told 2TA I would be good and not over tire myself, but that tussle with the lilac bush really sneaked up on me. I was really pooped out all afternoon yesterday, so today, what with the rain etc, I am going to back off the physical stuff and see if I can come up with some garden plans. I have a lot of ideas in my head, but need to put them down on paper or in the computer, and then break it up into bite-size pieces so I can tackle it without getting overwhelmed.

Oh oh Curve, I do hope you start taking it easy!!! It was hard traveling today with being sick..thank god for throat lozenges and Dayquil...was able to suppress the coughing until we got out of the airport. Now I can't talk...just weird sounds, so I have to whistle when I want to get DH's attention.

CCFW, do you have any tips for Iceland? Not sure we will do the boat ride late at night to look for the northern lights, as it seems like its iffy at this time of year. But can just imagine getting to slide into the warm water of the Blue Lagoon when its cold outside! Really don't have anything else planned. Anything we should try to eat or drink while there?

curve, I hope you're not overdoing. At first I was thinking, how can you get rid of the lilac bush? I love them, had one in our garden growing up, they don't grow here in So Cal (or at least I haven't seen any). But your ideas (I know, this is a repeat word, but it just fit) sound so much better. The roots must be really deep.

Wahine, you're off on another trip again? My goodness, you're really busy! Hoping you have a wonderful trip to Iceland and don't overdo either before the holidays. So many airplane rides, hoping you don't pick up a nasty bug.

CCFW, looking forward to hearing of your travels!

@2TA, I think lilacs are among the many plants that have to get a certain amount of cold in order to bloom, so it doesn't surprise me to hear that you aren't seeing any in So Cal. The one I dug up is no great loss--it was in the wrong place, it had been improperly pruned so it was misshapen, and the leaves had brown spots so it probably had some type of fungal or bacterial disease. Nowadays it's often possible to find varieties that are naturally disease-resistant, and that's what I plan to replace it with if I want a lilac bush in that part of the garden.

Today was beautiful and sunny, but I didn't work in my garden, just went for a walk down to the park. I am planning to include a raingarden so I'm doing some of the exercises in this book. One of these is to find out where runoff from your property ends up, and that's the one I did today. This time of the year in western WA, sunny weather generally means cold weather--there's no cloud blanket to keep the heat from escaping to space. But if you dress warmly, it can still be pleasant to be outdoors.

curve, now that's a switch: WA sunny and So Cal was rainy today! Sounds like the lilac needed to come out, you have better plans. Hoping tomorrow is pretty and sunny too. I think we're still supposed to have the dregs of the rain storm.

    Wahine, how are you doing?

@2TA, I bet Wahine has some bigtime jet lag going on. If I read her posts right, she has been in four time zones in the last two weeks. That's enough to put anyone's biological clock out of whack!

I continue to work on the garden bit by bit. My house is on a corner so there is a drainage ditch around two sides of my lot. Last spring when I talked to a guy from the public works department, he said it might be possible for one of their crews to come out and clear the ditch. I am thinking about asking if they can move it closer to the house, and create a flat area along the edges of the street where people could walk. Right now you have to walk either in the road, which isn't very safe, or on the sloping side of the ditch, which isn't very comfortable. But any changes to the ditch will have to wait for a while, as there is a tree in the way of what I want to do. Somebody just didn't think before they planted it...they put a spruce tree right on the corner where it grows into the power lines on both streets, so of course it's been topped to keep it from interfering with the wires. If they had just planted it back 10 or 15 feet away from the wires it would be fine, but as it is, it will have to go. However, due to budgetary constraints, it's not going to go until after the first of the year. But maybe I should write to Mr Public Works now, to get on their to-do list....

*yawn*, Yup Curve is right, big-time jet lag and also I am still still sick. It was cold, windy, and rainy our last 2 days in Vegas, so we got soaked. Caught redeye from Vegas, which left after midnight Fri night, so got home by noon Sat. Now I have 5 full days to get well, get caught up (no way) and pack for NYC and Iceland!

Curve, sounds like you have some good plans. I agree, sometimes people don't really think that a tree will grow too large, or even that a hedge might get overgrown. Hope you can get the public works dept to clear that ditch, and do you think they might take down that tree since they always have to trim it from the lines? Hope so!

Cheers girls, hope you are all doing well!

@wahine, I thought this trip was Iceland. I hope can shake that cold when you get back. Maybe your immune system is trying to tell you something. It's a wise woman who heeds what her body is saying to her. I think yours might be saying "slow down!"

That's a good idea about the tree. I'm not sure if it is in the right of way or on my property. It could easily be right on the line. My guess is it will be like street trees in many places, they are on city property but any costs fall to the adjoining homeowner. So, I expect the response to be "we can cut the top off because it's growing into our wires, but we won't pay to take the tree out completely." This, even though topping the tree creates a hazard, because one of the side branches below where the top has been cut off turns and grows vertically to try to make a new leader, but that makes a weak joint between the original trunk and the new leader, and the whole new top is likely to break off in a high wind. Maybe I can make a case that cutting the tree down once will be cheaper and better in the long run than having to trim it over and over again, not to mention the potential liability to the City if it ever did break off and damage my house. Anyway, it can't hurt to ask.

Happy DAY after Thanksgiving everyone!!!! Hope everyone had a good day. I was still coughing, and worn out so did not do a big dinner, just visited the kids for a short while, then DH and I cooked a turkey breast (crispy skin, nice and juicy and tender...he can really do a good one!), cran sauce and potato....minimal feast...lol.

Finally went to the doc in a box after 11 days of this coughing, sore throat and chest. Did xray, tests, so ruled out pneumonia, strep, and flu. Said it was a bacterial infection, still had low-grade fever. Feeling much better, but shoot now I have 4 more meds to take...one is 1xday, 2 are 3xday and 1 is 4xday. Will be hard, while traveling! Leaving this morning so wanted to give a shout out to you all. My DH needs to take Molly to board at the vet. When we took her for the 1st of her 2, 30 days apart injections, we found out we have to keep her contained for over 2 months! Like in kennel or small inside area. Needless to say Maverick (they have never been apart and are 12.5 yrs old) is so lonely and wonders where she is (they live outside). There is a big risk when the hearworms are killed off and break away from the heart and go in the bloodstream, that a big clump could instead go into the lungs and cause a stroke or death. SO she is not supposed to jump, get excited, etc. Been hard walking her 4-5 times a day, since she is so used to going whenever she needs to, outside. Wish we were told this ahead of time, esp with a trip, but our laundry room works out well and she still can see us. Was going to board Maverick too, since they have never boarded other than when we rescued them when they were 2, from the dog pound, but they thought he might get her excited.

Hoping not to be in the middle of all the holiday travelers trying to get back home!!!! Big hugs to you all, and hope this finds everyone well. IF you get sick, this dr (at clinic) says to see the dr if cough does not go away within 7 days. I waited too long, might not have turned into an infection.

Hi Red! Hope you are recovering well and getting enough REST! I am doing so much better, but had an awful coughing fit with a ramp full of people as we were boarding the plane...tried to tell people I was not contagious but I don't think they believed me! Coughed so hard, my eyes were tearing up and I couldn't stop. Prolly cause we talked to a dr we met at the gate for about an hour, and it got my throat itchy. Might try to go to Ground Zero while here, depends how much time we would have to spend to get there, since my DH wants to watch the AL game tomorrow.

CCFW, yeah I was trying to use the word "slide", but I meant I would like to slide into the warm water, and I was picturing sliding in off the side into the water, not an actual 'slide". LOL, funny how our words can have many meanings, didn't mean to be confusing though! Thanks for the info, we are supposed to have a "spa day" kind of experience, but not sure how long we will be there, some sort of face mask or massage is included too. BUT then we are taken to the airport for our flights back to NYC....so I surely don't want to get my head under the water...will be weird to go from there, and then to the airport. AND I love lamb, so am glad you told me that it is really good there. Had some good lamb in NZ, but sorta hard to eat after seeing all the cute little lambs all over the countryside. You are the only person I know who has been to Iceland, so any advice is very appreciated!!! I am hoping we really are sitting in "economy comfort" as it shows up in seatguru.com, cause we didn't pay for that, but if so, then we get free drinks and free meals. HOPING and PRAYING for that, as we were lucky on the way up. Funny its so cold and snowy there now, but our flt over is full, flt back here looks almost empty! Having an easy restful day today, hope you are all having a good day! Then have a good sleep while I prolly will end up being up as its hard to sleep on a plane for me. Hugs!.

OOPS just realized I was posting and FORGOT to do a word!! LOL . Well, this is a sad one, but works for a word. But this morning a NY train here derailed, at least 5-7 cars, and at least 4 lives lost. So sad for all those people and their families, plus I think over 40 may have serious injuries. Will cripple the commuter system for awhile. .Wish someone had spied whatever problem was happening before it derailed and could have avoided this from happening, I think it was on a big curve too.

Hahaha I noticed it quickly too and corrected it but you were FAST on the draw!!! Funny, sometimes no one posts for a couple of days, but just try to make a mistake and it is caught that very second!!! I should learn to preview before hitting submit!!! LOL. Sadly we will only be there for 4 nights (had to do 3 nights in NYC just to make the flts there and back!), I had added a night in Iceland, as it was supposed to be only 3 nights. So will prolly wander around the historic old shopping area, I think our hotel is on some good shopping street , Laugavegur. At least this will give us a glimpse of Iceland and we can always come back if we want to see more. Will only do the late night boat ride to try to view the Northern LIghts if it looks like a good chance to see it. So iffy though, and we did see them in Alaska.

OK, to go on from "dents".....some of the trains had toppled over, so they could even stand on top of them (the sides I guess) to help rescue the people trapped inside. Very sad.

CCFW, Got to NYC on Friday night, could not coordinate good flights closer to today, so this was best option. Cheaper for hotel rooms than the diff in flt prices! I have more time today since we have afternoon checkout and DH is resting. Not fair though cause he is able to sleep on planes while I usually can't!

OK, won't throw darts  and won't give off farts! LOL. BTW, have you ever sat behind someone on a long flight who keeps doing silent farts? OMG it is sooooo awful, but why are we always so polite and never say anything? Well, I guess its better not to confront them, esp on a plane, ya never know what will set someone off (no pun intended).

I'll write again from across the pond!!!!
