How about some candy today, or birthday cake (or both)? Today is my bday and I started celebrating yesterday till late last night (lunch out with parents, then took gdau to an oktoberfest last night that had a gazillion rides, we had a blast). Left today free to do what I feel like, not sure what that will be yet. Prolly out to dinner tonight, and might take my mom somewhere today. Then my DD is taking me to a play on Sunday....wheeeeeee I get to celebrate for days......

P.S. Sheila, I think we both think alike....first planning a trip to the same place within days of each other, then both using the word "sandy"..lol.

is that plumeria in the picture, sheila888-♥? If it is, we can make it into a lei for wahine. Then we'll put her out on the lanai, sitting in a chair with a caned seat, nibbling macadamia-nut fudge, and sipping something tall & cold with an umbrella in it. It will make this year's a birthday to remember!

Oh I love plumerias Sheila, THANK YOU! Love their fragrance, and of course they make excellent leis (thank you too, curve!). There is one very hardy variety that grows with little or no maintenance in graveyards, so they nicknamed it the "graveyard plumeria", but its really just a common one. Can picture doing all of what curve said, and it reminded me of days gone by, and sitting in a big finned sedan with a plumeria lei. Right now we aren't sure if we have to cancel our trip, our furbaby Molly has heartworms, which the vet found on Monday. She said we could wait to start treatment, but we are trying to confirm that right now. Sure don't want to impede any treatments for her.

P.S. Sheila I saved that picture, would be a nice one to try to paint someday.

oh wahine, I hope you don't have to cancel. How long would your trip delay treatment of Molly's heartworms? I hope she will be OK.

I can just see you sitting in that car with the big fins. Where were you going in the car? Perhaps to a dance? Or was it a movie? Never mind, let's do both! Happy Birthday!

Whew! ANother small fortune at the vets, but they did xrays and blood work, etc and found out the heartworms are not at the critical stage and can wait a month or two to start tx. Yay! She was such a sweetie and they all loved her. Now I am worn out so will prolly go out to dinner tomorrow night instead of tonight. Picked up some fancy cupcakes...with all this celebrating I may need a crane to lift me into the plane! I really have a sweet tooth, thats for certain!

oooh, cupcakes! Do they have cream filling? And beautiful yummy swirls of frosting on top and chocolate sprinkles??

    Have a fun trip!

Ooooooh they ARE good....no cream filling but lots and lots of frosting! They seem as large as a meal, so I was tempted to say grace! The carrot cake cupcake was as good as those my DD makes, so I really enjoyed that one! Now I know where to go when I crave that.

@wahine, it's only a temptation if you want to do something bad, and saying grace doesn't fall in that category. Glad you enjoyed the cupcakes, and those imaginary bears didn't come around and spoil your birthday by stealing them! Somebody must have locked those naughty bears in their cages so they couldn't get into mischief.

I feel so proud of myself, I just finished updating my Quicken and balancing my bank accounts from the last year and a half that I stayed with my mom during treatment. My records are now current and tomorrow I will tackle either the outstanding bills or my taxes. I didn't have the records to file back in April, so I submitted an extension and now the deadline is looming! Hope I don't end up owing even more.

Trying to catch up with everyone but finding myself short on time again. Time just disappears lately I haven't been here much. Got to keep this short - need to start getting ready for my high school reunion, at least it's casual. Didn't really want to go (no one seemed to know me then) but I have a friend who organizes these events and she CARES a lot about me and wants me there.

Wahine, good news about the fur baby that its not at an urgent status

Curveball, wonderful that you're settling in to your new home. Hoping taxes go better than expected

Hi 2ta! Hope you have fun at the reunion and how nice that your friend really wants you there. Sometimes I feel a bit leery to go, as most of my classmates are asian and just age sooooo well...a couple of the girls look like they just got out of college, and we are all in our 60's! I was one of the few caucasians at my small school, but I was the one with the ties to the ukulele! But pick any of them, and their resume reads a lot better than mine would! (I know, prolly not a really correct sentence!)

Hope you can get through with your taxes easily, and not dread doing them! Glad you are getting caught up on your bills, thats great. A neighbor showed up today with a beautifully wrapped gift for me...it was a pink covered bible in support of breast cancer, and looks really nice! That was sweet...she didn't know it was my birthday, just wanted to get it for me when she saw it. Really made my day! THen we went out for ANOTHER birthday dinner tonight ....hmmmm....started celebrating on Thurs, and it still continues tomorrow....think I have a good thing going!

Taxes don't scare me. I figure the worst that can happen is I will inadvertently pay too much by not taking a deduction I'm entitled to have, and if I do that I'll never know so it won't bother me. Or I might make a math mistake. Once on my taxes I added wrong, which caused me to show the wrong amount of tax due. I forget now which way I was off--the mistake might have been in my favor and resulted in a bigger refund than I was expecting. Or maybe it was a smaller refund. In any case, I wasn't penalized for my mistake.

Maybe I will get really lazy and not itemize at all.Surprised Naaah!Tongue Out

Happy birthday Wahine! Pink bible, how sweet, especially since she didn't know it was your birthday. Hoping you had a wonderful day and the celebration continues!

Curveball, you amaze me with all you're getting done! Wish I had your energy!

    Hi Sheila!

Did I miss Jane? One of these days I need to catch up on posts

About the reunion, glad I was DARED into it, I probably would have turned around and walked out, didn't see anyone I was friends with and felt very uncomfortable. Finally, 2 friends showed up (one didn't show up at all), saw some old drill teamers, the rest were the athletes, cheerleaders and partiers - I want any of those. Some looked so old already, some ladies had lots of "work" done, one guest looked like she was auditioning for a reality show!

@2TA, it doesn't sound like you enjoyed the reunion very much, but at least you can be pleased that your friend cared enough to invite you.

I don't watch reality shows, so I don't know what someone looks like/acts like when they are auditioning. Do you mean she had even more plastic surgery than the other ladies, or what?

Curveball, I did enjoy the reunion till the music got cranked up so loud that we couldn't hear one another. Felt more comfortable when my friends from the good old days arrived.

I know I'm not one to talk about plastic surgery, my recon surgeries have cost a mint. Now this one gal in question appeared to have lots of work done (lips, face, chest) but it wasn't only that, she wore a bright yellow dress sizes too small (way too tight and short), stiletto heels (this was a casual deal) so she really stuck out. She was a guest so even if her date didn't tell her about what to wear, it was the way she ACTED: she appeared to be scanning the room often and I swear I thought she was winking at a bunch of guys! She was quite the character.

Hmmm....wonder if she was looking for someone she might have dated?  LOL, what a character! Glad you enjoyed part of the evening though. Was yours a big class? We only had 60 or 70 in our senior class, but we were so apathetic that we didn't really get close to each other. It was a semi-private school and you had to be selected, but some of them were really studious and did so well, while others like me, just wanted to skip school and go to the beach! NOW we are close, which is so funny, and a core group now meets montly for Happy Hour (Pau Hana). And they were not from a clique, just random classmates, so I think thats awesome.

Sorry for the delay, don't come back as often and couldn't think of a response.

About the reunion: I tried counting, I think there were over 400 in our graduated class. Our HS was pretty new, we were the first freshman class so we were class to the sophomores. For the past couple of years our reunions are combined classes. So, someone posted pix from last year's and Ms Wanta-be-the-center-of-attention was there too (different dress, same style), her date with his arm around her. As tight as he was holding her, pretty surprised she DARED to look at other guys. It's cool, Wahine, that you still get together with former classmates.

@2TA, Oh, I can just see her! Sounds like Ms Wanna-be-the-center-of-attention thinks guys dream about her at night!

edited to add: we should introduce her to Risky Ricky. The two of them were made for each other!Wink

Who is Risky Ricky? Was he here before I joined this thread?

Wink@2TA--Risky Ricky made his first appearance in this thread back in January on page 840, and I think that was before you joined. He stuck around for quite some time, and has appeared at least once more since then...I think my sending him on a blind date with Ms WannabeTCoA makes three, or maybe even four times he been here. He thinks he's heaven's gift to the women of the world. If we ignore him, he'll go away soon. Or maybe the bears will chase him away!

Didn't realize this thread has been quiet so a bit, time to bump. I went out to take care of my parents for a couple days, Dad's Internet (and Tivo) were down, took help rom my DB to get them working. Missed out on Risky Ricky and it TAKES a whole lot of time to go back till January to get caught up.

Curveball, what's happening with the new home?

    Wahine, what's happening with you?

    And others?

Do you think Risky Ricky will be deterred when Miss CoA tells him she's taken?

Note: I am not doing a word because I don't have much computer time. Still in HI, leave tomorrow for home. Right now am sitting watching the sunset on the water...beautiful. Got to board a historic hawaiian sailing vessel today, because I talked with the local crew, and then we took them about 8 or 9 beers later! IT will go around the world next May, taking about 3 yrs. Replica of the ancient polynesian vessels they would have sailed to Hawaii on. SOme of the crew have ancestors from Madeira too, like my g'grandpa did that invented the ukulele.  I took a gazillion pics...it sailed into our bay a few days ago to conch shell blowers. Awesome. Hope you are all doing well....now someone carry on with the word...sorry I didn't have time to do that...

Thanks for checking in Wahine! Hoping you're having a simply mah-valous time!!!! Enjoy the sunset for me - the view must be breath-taking! While you're looking, do you see anyone running naked on the beach? Oh my! Do you have pictures of the boat you were talking about?

Hahaha 2ta.....no naked people, but the Hawaiians were so tanned, and baked from the sun! I took a pic of one of the crew who had hawaiian type tattoos all over, and he was naked above the waist...does that count? He also hugged me in the pictures....lol. The vessel is the Hokulea, and even the sails look like they do in the ancient drawings....very curved, and very labor intensive just to get them up. LOTS of pictures, but just got home a couple of hrs ago, and zombie-tired! Have not even looked at all the pics yet, but I will post a pic I took of that vessel soon, ok. Hope everyone is doing well!
