The show tonite was better than expected!

Ginger: actually loved her first dance, the second was ho hum.

Paige: first dance fun but a bit frantic, the second dance was okay but didn't wow me.

Nyle: cute first dance. His free style brought me to tears. It was moving. Such an incredible performance.

    It's anyone's trophy

    Agreed on all counts.

I somehow forgot that it was short tonight so I was just settling in for another hour when it was over. Shocked

Thoroughly enjoyed the show, Loved Gingers first dance, freestyle was just so so. I turned to sound down for Nyles freestyle dance and it was so powerful and beautiful and I am not a fan of contemporary. Paige's first dance I found a bit too frenetic and wasn't a great fan of the freestyle.

I don't have a clue who will take the mirror ball I'm thinking Nyle but I've been wrong before, everyone brought something to the table.

Cheryl, I agree, everyone brought something to the table. I am thinking it may be Nyle's night. DWTS has had a number of contestants with handicaps get so close to the mirror ball without taking it, and I think tonight might finally be the time

I also noticed that neither Derek or Julianne Hough made an appearance at all this season. Very unusual. I know they have other irons in the fire, but it strikes me that there may have been a falling out with them and the show that we don't know about,

If Nyle wins, it will certainly because of his dancing abilities, not because of sympathy votes.....and that is very cool!

    Erin's dress....yuck!

    First hour.....I literally fell asleep.

Second hour.....very enjoyable. All three dancers have grown and seemed to have a genuine and caring connection between them and their pro. I liked the final practice clips & the dances, and was pleased with the final results.

Glad that it is summer, but I will miss DWS and our weekly visits! Heart

I actually liked the finale; althou I taped it and flicked through some of the singers, pitbull included. LOL

Erins dress looked like a swim suit coverup. I mean, really, couldn't the aplique go down a couple of inches so you couldn't see her swimsuit?

I agree with who was third, but 1st and second were extremely close and very, very good.

I agree about Erin's dress, oh dear god who designed that??? I watched her try to cover her thighs with the cue cards all evening. I agree with the finale, but I would have been happy with either of the final two winning. Not a bad season. Thought it was odd that neither of the Hough's made an appearance.

Erin's dress was awful, I'll bet the blogs are lit up about it. Got home late so I was able to flip through all the fluff on the DVR. Was happy with the outcome and like Ruth I'll miss our little get togethers but that being said, see you in September Heart

I thought the finale was entertaining and the results were somewhat expected and maybe even a bit contrived. Far too many commercials, but I read a book on my kindle during the breaks. It was fun to see all contestants again, tho Lindsay and Wanya's routine had me pining for what coulda been, they were great.

There is one gal who's a DWTS extra dancer, Jenna Johnson, shorter chin length hair. Last season I kept noticing her. Then she gave one performance that was pretty steamy performance with Val (see video link) and I have a feeling she may end up being a regular. I googled her and I see she's rumored to be Val's girlfriend.

Oh Erin's dress! Definitely a don't. It was sort of distracting, yes, moonflower, like she was wearing a beach coverup on finals night.

Ginger really did improve quite a bit thru the season, tho still always some rigidity in her movements.

I never got over Paige being a professional dancer so it didn't bother me that she came in second. The cards were stacked in Nyle's favor. Often a second place contestant sees the writing on the wall that they can't overcome a certain kind of audience favoritism, just like when Ryker Linch lost to Rumor Willis. You could see on his face he was disappointed in the politics of it all, and I think Paige understood that aspect, too. I think it would have not been good for the show, and too predictable, had a young, sexy blonde girl, good as she was, beat out the deaf guy. Just sayin'.

Mark's hair was so gross all season and man buns make me want to puke. Worst fashion ever. I mean, get a freakin' haircut!

That Sounds of Silence dance was simply incredible. I loved the rendition that was used, by a group called Disturbed. Nyle wrote a letter to the group asking for permission to use it in the freestyle (see link) Very moving.

Well, Ladies, my computer crashed a few weeks ago. so y'all have been deprived of my brilliant and witty comments... Loopy

I finally watched Nyle and Peta's dance, and Ruth - you are absolutely right when you say that Nyle won because of his dancing ability. not any sympathy votes.

Having worked with many deaf clients over the years, I can totally understand Nyle's tears when Carrie Ann spoke to him in sign language. That is so rare... most hearing people just expect deaf people to adapt to the hearing world. Learning even the most basic signs is an example of respect - and more importantly - INCLUSION. Kudos to her.

    So glad he won. Happy

Yes. Paige deserved second place. That is, until I learned she had formal dance training as a child. Whaaaaa? Devil

And Ginger was pleasant. Adequate. Nice. Sweet. Meh.

Oh, Man Buns. Don't get me started. I have a cartoon I'll try to post.

What are we going to watch next?

A 'Dancing With the Stars' Baby! Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd Are Expecting Their First Child

Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are dancing as a trio these days.

The professional dancers, who got engaged in December, are expecting their first child, PEOPLE can confirm exclusively.

"I can't wait to provide this baby with the tools to become a beautiful, kind person," Chmerkovskiy says in the current issue of PEOPLE. "And they'll have the best sneaker collection."

Murgatroyd, 29, and Chmerkovskiy, 36, learned they were expecting just a few weeks into season 22 of Dancing with the Stars.

"I was so sick," Murgatroyd says of her first months of pregnancy, which she spent competing — and eventually winning — alongside model Nyle DiMarco.

But now in her second trimester, Murgatroyd is enjoying life on the road with Chmerkovskiy — who is currently starring alongside his brother, Valentin, in Maks & Val: Live on Tour – and is looking forward to life as a new mom.

"I'm looking forward to nurturing something and just having the baby be the center of our world," says Murgatroyd. "I'm looking forward to putting all our energy into this beautiful soul."

They still don't know whether they're having a boy or girl, but "we'll be in trouble with a little me running around," jokes Chmerkovskiy. "So hopefully they'll be a lot like Peta."

The happy couple admits they were planning to start a family, but initially didn't envision having a baby until after their 2017 summer wedding — not that they mind!

"The timing is perfect, actually," adds Murgatroyd. "I'll have the baby in January and then I'll still have about six months to prepare for the wedding."

"The baby will make a wonderful addition to the wedding party," adds Chmerkovskiy. "A wonderful, tiny addition."

But you are certainally right. Its bound to be a good looking kid.

This was just on Facebook. I wonder if it is true?

Ryan Lochte will join the cast of Dancing With The Stars next season, USA Today reports.

Reports earlier Wednesday linked the swimmer and subject of Olympic controversy to the reality TV dance competition.

USA Today reports that Lochte had a deal in place to appear on the show prior to the situation in Rio that arose from his exaggeration of events involving being held at gunpoint with his teammates. The deal has yet to be announced publicly.

Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist, was dropped by four sponsors on Monday. The 32-year-old said on multiple accounts that he and three teammates had been held up by men claiming to be police officers, but it later surfaced that the swimmers had been detained for vandalizing a gas station and urinating on the building. Lochte acknowledged he had been drinking but failed to deliver a true version of events, sparking outrage from some in Brazil and causing his teammates to be temporarily held in Rio as police sorted out events.

It may be true. I'd heard rumors, too. I loved the Olympics so much, really enjoyed them this year. when the Lochte situation came up, I refused to listen to it because his actions really irritated and angered me, plus dampened the festivities and all the amazing athletic performances.

Nevertheless, DWTS is a chance for Lochte to redeem himself, and he needs to. We are all human and capable of stupid behavior and bad judgement. So I think, why not let the guy entertain us on th show and see what he can muster. He's already paying the price of his actions with dropped sponsorships and bad press.

On another subject, maybe you've all seen that this summer, professional Kym Johnson married Robert Herjevac, her dance partner celebrity last year! She's retired from the show now

    Hot off the press:

he cast of season 23 of Dancing with the Stars was announced on Good Morning America Tuesday and there are 13 great, new pairings for fans to look forward to on the upcoming season of the hit ABC reality dance competition.

It'll be a superstar season, Dancing with the Stars pros Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Maksim Chmerkovskiy returning to the ballroom – and Julianne Hough back as a judge, too.

Here are the full season 23 pairings:

    1. Laurie Hernandez & Valentin Chmerkovskiy "I'm so excited! I can't wait to do the jive," the Olympian, 16, tells PEOPLE of getting to dance alongside Chmerkovskiy, 30, who placed third last season with Ginger Zee. "Val is a mastermind and it's so nice because he seems really patient and like me, open to new things." As for whether she has experience on the dance floor, Hernandez told GMAshe does, adding "They call me Baby Shakira."

    2. Marilu Henner & Derek Hough "I'm excited to say that I'll be back on Dancing with the Stars," the six-time Mirrorball Trophy winner, 31, posted on his Facebook page Monday before it was announced he would be partnered with Henner, 64. "Marilu came into the room and had such a great energy and excitement about the show and getting to learn to dance," executive producer Rob Wade tells PEOPLE of the former Taxi star. "We knew right then we wanted her on the show."

    3. Amber Rose & Maksim Chmerkovskiy "The last 12 years of my life had some sort of relationship to the show. I just wanted this to continue ... the feeling and positivity," Chmerkovskiy said when it was announced he was returning. Fans initially speculated that the season 18 winner, 36, would be partnered with the Amber Rose Show host, 32, after a picture of the two together began circulating on social media on Aug. 25.

    4. Ryan Lochte & Cheryl Burke "When we knew had interest from Cheryl, Maks and Derek to come back, we felt strongly that the people we paired them with would be really suitable to them," says Wade, who has paired 32-year-old Burke – a two-time Mirrorball Trophy winner who previously competed in seasons 2 through 19 – with Olympian Lochte. Lochte, also 32, has been in the headlines recently for his involvement in a robbery scandal while in Rio for the Olympics, but Wade says the casting team "started talking to [Lochte] before the Olympics even started."

    5. Vanilla Ice & Witney Carson "I'm so excited to have Vanilla Ice as my partner. He's an icon," Carson, 22, tells PEOPLE of being paired with the '90s rapper, 48. "We are both in it to win and we will be cool as ice every week," continues Carson, previously won the Mirrorball with Alfonso Ribeiro on season 19 in 2014.

    6. Calvin Johnson & Lindsay Arnold After nine years in the NFL, Johnson, 30, retired in March. The former Detroit Lions All-Pro receiver cited the physical toll of playing football for his reason for retiring. But now Johnson is giving dancing a shot, with three-time pro Arnold, 22 – who placed fourth with Boyz II Men's Wanya Morris on season 22. "I am so ecstatic to have Calvin as my partner," Arnold tells PEOPLE. "He is motivated to learn everything he can and I cannot wait to see his improvement each week."

    7. Emma Slater & Rick Perry "Heading into an election season we wanted to represent the political world," Wade says of casting former Texas Gov. (and 2016 Republican presidential hopeful) Rick Perry, 66, alongside five-time pro dancer Slater, 27.

    8. Maureen McCormick & Artem Chigvintsev McCormick, 60, is just the latest Brady Bunch star to take a spin around the ballroom. Her on-screen mom Florence Henderson competed on season 11 of the show in 2010. McCormick is paired with Chigvinstev, 34, who is a three-time competitor and was partnered with The O.C. actress Mischa Barton last season.

    9. Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds & Allison Holker Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, 57, has won 11 Grammys. But now he'll see if he has what it takes to win a Mirrorball Trophy. Babyface is partnered with three-time pro Holker, 28, who took last season off while pregnant with her first son with husband and dancer Stephen 'tWitch' Boss.

    10. Jake T. Austin & Jenna JohnsonJohnson, 22, is a So You Think You Can Dance alum who has been a member of the DWTS dance troupe since season 18 but now she's been upgraded to a pro dancer and has been partnered with Austin, 21, a former Wizards of Waverly Place and The Fosters star.

    11. James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess Hinchliffe, 29, is no stranger to high-pressure situations. "Racing drivers are just wired differently," the Indycar driver told PEOPLE in May after a crash that nearly killed him. "And even after going through something like I did last year, I never had any hesitation about wanting to get into the car or wanting to get back to racing." Hinchfliffe is partnered on DWTS with seven-time pro Burgess, 31, who most recently placed fourth with NFL star Antonio Brown on season 22.

    12. Terra Jolé & Sasha Farber The Little Women: LA star has the distinction of being the first little person to compete on DWTS. Jolé, 36, joins the competition just weeks after giving son Grayson Vincentwith husband Joe Gnoffo. She will be partnered with Farber, 33, who previously competed on season 17 with Nicole "Snooki" LaValle and season 22 with Kim Fields.

    13. Jana Kramer & Gleb Savchenko Country singer and newly-single new mom Kramer, 32, is paired with Savchenko, also 32, who previously competed on DWTS with Lisa Vanderpump on season 16.

Dancing with the Stars will return Sept. 12 on ABC.

    Wow! Great informative article, Ruth!

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! That's a good contestant! Terra Jole, the Little Women of LA is my guilty pleasure, and I don't watch those kinds of shoes usually. Should be interesting.

Boo to Emma Slater being paired with an older guy once again. But Marilu with Derrick, I think that's great! She's such a perfectionist, and I'm glad he's back. Same for Cheryl Burke!

........I also want to mention that I predicted last year that Jenna Johnson, one of the backup dancers, was going to move up in the ranks to be one of the professionals with a contestant, and whomp, there it is. She's just a hot little number and has been paired romantically with Val at one point.

Max, didn't care for the beard.

Marilou, didnt like her costume, too kind of youthful.

    Calvin and Lindsay, woot! woot!

My viewing got a bit interrupted by something here at home, so I saw most of the dances but was distracted.

Rick Perry was my least favorite. Little person Terra was good and entertaining. I liked Vanilla Ice, too

The new professional Jenna Johnson, I like the new energy, she danced with the younger fella. She's pretty hot. Seemed to me Julianne was a bit miffed about seeing someone so hot to trot on the dance floor and she seemed snotty in her remarks.

What's the point having four judges when only three will make remarks? Kinda dumb

I liked that Carrie Ann said they were there to judge Ryan's ballroom dancing only. Whatever the scuffle that went on in the audience about him was inappropriate.

    Hey, might be Val's season!

I thought it was weird to only let 3 judges speak too.

I also had a lot of interruptions so didn't watch as closely as I would have liked. Yes to Calvin & Whitney, I also liked Baby Face. Amber seems to have some talent and Max will no doubt make it interesting. No matter how stupid Ryan's antics at the Olympics, it shows how low our public discourse has gotten when people try to attack you on the dance floor (for goodness sakes!!). At this point, I would definitely put my money on Val and Laurie. He looked pretty thrilled!
