I just rewatched Laurie and Val and James and Sharna's freestyles on youtube. James' dance gave me chills; Sharna was gorgeous. But Laurie's dance made me tear up again. It was like a playground picture brought to life. The set, with it being a fall scene, and the song were both so so perfect for her, and the part where the words said something like I'm gonna dance like no one's watching, all the dancers sort of froze and Laurie did a little excited quick step in place, I thought to myself "that was the winning moment". And her huge smile with Val putting his arm around her as they looked up at the camera at the end of the dance was wonderful. Val did absolutely amazing choreography that showcased Laurie and everything she is about. It looked and felt like she was a professional dancer in a way I have never seen a contestant. I think she brought her A+++ game knowing it was the defining dance.

Yay! By now everyone should know the winner, do not read further if you don't.

I thought it was a great season. In some ways, its lacked the drama of other seasons, like when Meryl White and Amy Purdy were the top two. Or even last season when the deaf man won, I cannot remember his name (sorry). But we were treated to really good dancers this season.

What is the point of the final dance? I think it is just filler. The judges give all tens cuz everyone is in an upbeat mood. I noticed Derreck wasn't there. I got the vibe he wasn't too thrilled with his partner Marilu. And what was with that icy outdoor platform?

The winner was deserving. I thought James was excellent, and we have had many shows where the mirror ball trophy could have gone to the runner up. An American Olympic athlete who is both so popular and so exceptionally good is hard to top, tho. It was all enjoyable. Yay Laurie!

    I thought so:

Laurie Hernandez is youngest 'Dancing with the Stars' winner

    Nov 22, 2016, 10:57 PM EST

    Laurie Hernandez

Olympic champion gymnast Laurie Hernandez became the youngest winner of "Dancing with the Stars" in the show's 23rd season on Tuesday.

Hernandez, 16, and partner Val Chmerkovskiy beat IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe and retired NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson for the Mirror Ball Trophy in Tuesday's finale.

"I just want to thank everyone for the support and riding along this crazy roller coaster of my life," Hernandez, who was 4 years old when "Dancing with the Stars" debuted in 2005, said seconds after being named the winner.

She became the fifth Olympian and second gymnast to take the title, joining Apolo Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson and Meryl Davis.

Johnson was previously the youngest winner at age 17 in 2009.

Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy had a stellar season on the show, stringing together five straight perfect scores across three weeks starting on Halloween.

It came after she won team gold and balance beam silver at the Rio Olympics as the first U.S. female Olympian born in the 2000s.

I enjoyed this season. From the very first show it seemed like Laurie was the one to beat. I thought James was amazing though and would have been fine if he'd won.

Derek and Marilu were definitely there last night; they danced together.

Yes, it was a fun season. Laurie & Val were flawless. James & Sharna brought the passion, Calvin & Whitney brought the crazy fun. I found myself thinking, "I hope they win" for each couple as they were dancing.

They probably won't plan another outdoor Christmas finale again. Luckily no one broke his/her neck while trying to dance on ice!

Boo Hoo, nothing fun to watch on Monday night again until spring! Happy Thanksgiving, ladies!

Maybe I'm wrong about Derek and Marilu?! Was that a taped piece of them dancing? I've already deleted the show or I'd check.

Yes you must have seen video with Derek. For the live show where she danced along with Terra Jole, she had a different, unknown professional as her partner.

Also, a big hats off to Gleb. He was new I think this season, and he was a great addition, I really liked his personality. He and Jena were beautiful together.

I thought that opening dance might have been filmed and Derek was there. Doesn't he have a big, live Hairspray production coming soon? Maybe he was pulled away by that.

I would have been happy with either James or Laurie winning. Great dancers and performers who seem to be very nice people. Loved Calvin too, but I didn't think Lindsey let him just dance enough. She just relied on his strength too much. Anyway, a fun season.

I loved watching this show! This was my first season, and I know already it will be tough to top it. They were all so great, and it as fun to see the week to week improvement. Laurie is such a phenomenal world class athlete in a sport where grace and strength, rythym are perfected. ..hard to beat her for sure. And I thought her partner had a particularly difficult task to not overly sexualize the dances, with her being only sixteen, it could easily have gone creeper/inappropriate, but it thought it never did. Great job!

Great ending, I would have been a teensy, tinier bit happier with James winning, but I did think that Laurie had it in the bag. I'm glad I can record it in EST & watch it early & skip through all the filler, but that's probably just me. It's interesting how at the beginning of the seasons, there are all these people whom I've sometimes never heard of & now household names (for me)

I felt like Derek was maybe a bit miffed that he didn't automatically get the best female star. I'm glad for a change, I was getting tired of Derek always winning every team challenge etc. Felt bad for Sharna, I feel like she deserves to win a mirror ball!

Yes, Sharna has come close several times but no trophy.

I think the show does a good job not over sexualizing the younger cast members, and I agree, Val did an amazing job showcasing the youth and effervescence of Laurie in a wholesome way. Yet once in awhile she could even break out of that in an appropriate way, like the week when when she danced to the song from the broadway show Chicago

What a great season and really any of them could have won in the end they were all so good. I loved the Macy's dance it was magical.  I was at work watching so was kind of distracted and I have it DVRd so over the weekend I'll watch again to catch all the nuances that I missed.  MrsM if my memory serves me correctly I believe Gleb has been on before and he was partnered with Lisa Vanderpump, I think lately he's been in the troupe as I think they bring people in and out like this season Keo was always a front and center troupe dancer.  A great season, I'm sad it's over those 11 weeks seem to have gone by in a flash.

Cheryl, oh, wow, if that was him with Lisa, yes I remember. Lisa was so sweet. I really liked him then and this season. And the Macys dance! It was super cool!

Image result for florence henderson dancing with the stars

I just wanted to pause to remember Florence Henderson; actress, Dancing With the Stars contest (during season 11, when she was a youthful 76 years old!), and just last week was in the audience supporting her TV daughter, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha."

The next season should be in the spring, so I imagine sometime around March we would hear who may join the cast. Once in awhile, you will get one or two earlier confirmations that a "star" will be on the upcoming season, little teasers to start promoting the show again.
