I dunno, I'm cheering for Kate. The look on her face was total fear and insecurity,it just comes across looking mean. I think she was holding back tears thinking she was going to be voted off. If she had been, the tabloids would have had a field day with her.

That poor woman has been through enough, she deserves a break. I'm on team Kate.Laughing

Now Pam.... thats a different story. Laughing

Chancesmom - I'm still wondering why on earth she would put herself through all the criticism after all she's been through?  I think there is no compensation for the show...just the publicity.  But, I may be wrong.  She almost lost it when Tony walked out on her.  Poor lady she really has a lot of baggage.

    Publicity leads to opportunities... :)

I have never watched any of the shows by any of these female contestants before. I follow figure skating though Evan is not one of my favorite skaters. From the first two dances, I think clearly Shannon out danced Kate and Buzz. But this show is a form of entertainment, and have *people* vote. That often means the best dancer may not win. In fact, the producer may want to keep Kate on it a bit longer to generate more controversy or drama, thus poll in more viewers.

I think Pam did dance well but her scores were a bit low (again, I think they are building up drama).

Don't underestimate Evan. He is a fast learner and is very competitive with reasonable amount of acting experiences. He is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

What did y'all think of last nights show?  I casted my votes for Aiden and Edyta. I've been a fan of Aiden for some time now.  Love him in AMC. I must admit he has a long way to go but he did better last night.  I hope he doesn't get voted off tonight. I'm thinking Kate will be leaving tonight. I agree with Kary Ann, it's painful to watch her dancing.  Feel bad for Tony though, he is such a sport.

I love Tony and I feel so bad for him for being stuck with Kate - she needs to go, but I think it will be Pam.  I think that's too bad because I do think Pam can dance (certainly better than Kate).  There does seem to be a backlash against Pam and I think it is undeserved - she seems like a nice person.  As always, JMHO.

Watching Kate and Buzz dance almost hurt. It seems like what-ever Pam does she tries to turn it sexual. I think that the popular vote tonight will be to keep Kate tonight but I hope that she is the one to go.

This is my first season to watch Dancing with the Stars--and I need guidance from you seasoned watchers...I'm really confused.   From the little I've seen so far, the judges votes don't weigh in as much as the popular vote phoned in???    Are the phone in votes a popularity contest for the great dancers or for the "stars" they're dancing with?   I agree that Buzz just didn't have it--but good grief, I remember watching that man walk on the moon!!!    Think shopping cart Kate (and thought that was a kind description of her dancing...) should have been eliminated before Buzz.     So, I don't understand the way couples are eliminated and can only assume that the ones I think are terrific will be the next to be eliminated!!   Interesting show!

Junie, there is some sort of equasion where they take the judges score and combine it with the txt/email votes to determine who gets voted off and alot of times the one you think needs to go home stays and someone who should stay based on their dancing ability is eliminated. Several seasons ago, Cloris Leachman hung on for many weeks even though she was doing more comedy routines than actual dancing because of the at home votes.

I love your description of Kate, it did look like she was being pushed around by Max like a shopping cart. She doesn't even look like she is having fun, even when they are just standing on the stage at the beginning of the show.

The equation is that half of the ranking is from the judges and half from the people voting - example - say the judges rank Kate as last and Pam as first with Aiden in the middle - (just to make it easy) So the judges' rank is Pam - 1, Aiden 2 and Kate 3.  The people vote most for Kate, 2nd most for Pam and last is Aiden.  The rankings are averaged - Pam is 1+2 divided by 2 which is 1.5.  Kate is 3+1 divided by 2 which is 2.  Aiden is 2+3 divided by 2 which is 2.5, so the final tally would be Pam is still first @ 1.5, but Kate is second @ 2 and Aiden drops to third with 2.5.  That's why the home voting can keep someone who is totally awful (Kate) on the show for such a long time.

Thnaks for the explanation on the equation, I tried googling it but came up blank.

Anne - thanks for the equation.  I've been watching the show since the first season but never thought about the numbers too much.  I'm always surprised when they announce who goes home.  Love the show.

Junie - welcome to the group.  We've been comparing notes every season and sometimes we are also confused on the voting.  I guess it's all part of the drama and suspense.  Sometimes the show becomes a popularity contest. The professional dancers are awesome.  I'm always amazed at how they can take someone with little to no dancing skills and turn them into good ballroom dancers.

Sheila - I don't think we will ever forget Cloris.  LOL

You will not believe this but it was on the local (Boston, MA) news last night. Kate Gosselin gets 200 K for her performance (and I use the term loosely, I am not a fan of hers) on DWTS. Sue

I will see if I can find the link to the news......I think it's 200K for the whole series, no matter how long she lasts. Frankly, being as she is such a perfectionist, I thought she might just withdraw from the competition but now I am sure she won't........not with all that money. Sure beats working for a living!

She (Kate Gosselin) is also going to have a new show on TLC: Twist of Kate is the name I think.

Here is the link: seems the comments differ in whether it is 200K for the season OR per episode.

I heard that about Kate being paid - now I wonder if they are all getting paid and she is the only one to let it be known - apparently, the salary is her defense against her husband suing for primary custody of the kids - she's just making a living to support her children.  I am not a Kate fan at all - I feel so sorry for Tony - he is the nicest person and he is putting up with so much from her.  Since she is good for rtings, they try to keep her on.

So who is gonna watch tonight? I am sick that my other shows are not repeats. I love 2 1/2 men, how I met your mother, etc.

We shall all have to catch up tomorrow. Sue

Wow for Evan and also for Nicole.  They were great!  I like Ayden but has a ways to go yet.  I'm starting to think the last last two competing are going to be Evan and Nicole.

Even though the judges were kind to her tonight, I still think Kate is bad. I also don't like that she plays the victim and everything is about her. Everyone has some kind of problem. She acts as though she were the only one.

Yes they all get paid and their contracts are weekly so therefore the longer you stay the more you earn and then they are paid to come back at the end, her contract is probably $200K if she lasts the whole season.  Heck those girl on "The Hills" get $60K per episode.

HRF - I agree with you. She needs to go.  I feel bad for Tony.  He seems to be a kind man and she is playing the victim card every week...enough!!! I tune her out and stopped watching her dance.  It's just too painful to watch.

hbcheryl - Wow, that is a lot of money for dancing.  I wonder how much the professional dancers get paid?  It must be nice to get paid to dance.

I'm going to catch some flack for this and I'll preface it by saying I haven't seen her tonight as it's only just started here but I feel bad for her I mean can you imagine having all of your life out there for everyone to pick on, have you ever seen any of the footage when she goes shopping and there are hundres of people with their cell phone cameras out snapping away and then imagine you think you've got yourself prince charming and it turns out you've got pond scum but you've still got to maintain a lifestyle and yes it's now grand but I don't think I could take it without a big bottle of wine (and whine) every night.  No she's not a dancer but I give her kudos for trying.

Thanks!  Thanks! for the voting explanations!!   I'm still watching the show--not sure I'll become a die-hard fan.  What is really fun for me is that DH has been watching it with me and has suddenly become the world's biggest critic of dance moves!!!  It is hysterical--not sure which I enjoy more--watching the show or listening to his running commentary!

A couple more questions for you veterans.....who chooses the costumes they wear?   Do I understand correctly that they are "assigned" the piece of music they will dance to and what dance they will perform?  If the music is selected for them, it seems that some are given more popular tunes and  it is easier to adapt their dance routines to?    Sorry to be so inquisitive but this is all new to me and I'm curious.......

I think they are assigned a piece of music and the type of dance.

Kate and Pamela need to go.  I can't stand to watch Kate perform.  It's painful to watch.  And I can't stand her drama.  She brings most of it on herself.  Pamela is all about sexying it up for the camera.  She's a good dancer, but her antics have to go!!!

I had it on last night but was busy sewing and didn't actually 'watch' it. I also have started tuning out Kate and her antics. It's my opinion about Kate and the publicity, she brought it on herself. she signed the contract to put her life out there on a 'reality' show for all the world to see. It is almost like she thrives on the publicity, more so the bad than the good. If she wanted good publicity she would change her attitude.

I am not sure who designs the costumes but in previous years, there has been one week when the 'stars' design the costumes for them and their professional partner. I think the professional has a say in what the costumes look like based on the style of dance they have laid out for that week because let's face it, the costume is a big part in the presentation of the dance.

I think the costumes are getting way to racy.  And I not even close to a prude!  I like the pussycat doll, I think they are beautiful together.  I dance just like Kate.  No kidding!! xo LOL

I fell asleep and had to watch it on line this AM. I wonder who will get the boot. Kate is surely very secure about herself but I do hate her whining. I will have to slap myself to stay awake tonight to see who goes...Sue
