Wow, Kirstie has dropped 38 inches in the two months of this show.  Way to go!

Yeah she looks great.  But let's get this thing going - enough with the losers.

Kirstie just got a perfect score.  Never thought that would happen.

The judges take themselves out of it with the final dance and award everyone with the same score, usually all 10's..  That was a shock that Chelsea & Mark were 3rd.  So, it's Hines - I am very happy for him and he deserved it.  This was the first time I didn't really mind whoever won of the three.  I was surprised about the order, though.  On dancing alone, Chelsea should have won it, but on the total package, Hines deserved it.  Kristy was amazing and deserved to be in the final three.  As ever, JMHO.

I agree that all three deserved to be in the final three and I am happy that Hines won. It was good to see Kirsty going to the finals even though I thought she wouldn't make it that far. Chelsea did great and I loved her costumes.

It's hard judging a female dancer against a male dancer, since they have such different roles!  I was impressed with all the finalists and very proud of Kirstie.  She rocks!  Chelsea is very sweet and an excellent dancer.  Hines is .. there are no words for his awesomeness!  Yay Hines and Kym for a much deserved win!!!  I think I'm now hooked on this show and looking forward to next season!

You are right, Angel - remember the quote about Fred Astaire's sister, Adele?  She did everything he did, but she did it backwards in high heels.

Yeah, my man Hines won!  I'm so happy.  He had the total package, musicality, athleticism and personality to spare.  I believe Kym also won before with Donny Osmond.

As someone who is 58, I don't consider 60 elederly but definitely at this age there are more aches and pains and I know that I now run out of breath much easier since being on herceptin; I think it really did a number on me.

I was actually shocked that Chelsea came in third; I thought she had a good chance to win it all but like others said, all three deserved to be in the top three.  What a great season this was!

I agree that Hines deserved to win. He has been consistently good dueling the entire season and that smile of his is infectious. Kirsty really surprised me. I expected her to be a dud but I was pleasantly pleased to see how hard she worked at this and didn't get into some silliness the way so many other movie stars have. She took it seriously and she really know how to move. I was also pleasantly surprised at how she pushed herself doing those lifts and cartwheels. She deserved second place and she should be proud of herself because no one expected her to do so well. Good season

Time to bring this thread back.  What does everyone think about the cast?  I'm not familiar with most of them, so I plan on keeping an open mind.

I'm like you ADK.  Will be interesting to see if there is any real talent and how they all develop.

Been a loyal fan since the first season but I won't be watching this season.  It's suppose to be dancing with the stars not dancing with controversy. There is not enough star power this season. It's suppose to be a dance show. I want to see classy waltz, sexy Latin, fun freestyle dancing, and a competitive spirit. I love seeing the stars grow and transform themselves through dance during the season.  Sorry, but don't really care for all the drama.

I'm with you Odalys, There is so much controversy this year and they only announced the 'stars'.

Sheila - I heard but haven't been monitoring it.  DH said he saw the discussion on GMA yesterday.  I'm bummed cause it was fun to watch and always got my mind away from all the other current issues/stressors.  Oh well, i'll be watching something else this season.

I haven't seen anything but the original announcement.  I'm not impressed by the line up but then I usually haven't been.  There has been controversy before but it dosen't get to the dance floor.  As long as the dancing is good I'll watch.

What is the controversy? I haven't heard anything

The controversy is Chaz Bono.  The one who used to be a woman and is now a man and will be dancing as a man.  I don't think he/she should even be on the show - he/she is not a star but has a famous mom.  This could hurt DWTS as many won't watch because of this.

Is it considered worse than Heather Mills who wore a prosthetic leg or Marlee Maitlin who is deaf? Actually Heather Mills' only claim to fame was that she was married to Paul McCartney - not much different than Chaz. Their "stars" are mostly people who are looking to get noticed again - no A listers ever participate. But I can understand that there are different opinions out there. I may or may not watch because there is no one on the list who seems remotely interesting. I was surprised last year by Kirstie Alley - thought she came across very positively.

Hrf - Guess it will depend on who you ask and what their opinions are about transgender individuals.  I am going to watch just to see how long he/she stays on.

I understand that in the world there are many opinions about accepting differences in others. Guess I have been very fortunate to live and work in a large community where equity and inclusivity are foundational values by which we operate. I'm not trying to convince anyone to believe as I do - I just don't think transgender is an issue. It's about human beings being accepted for who they are as long as they don't cause harm to anyone else. I feel sorry for Chaz because I know he had a difficult time even getting his mother's acceptance. Don't know if he's a dancer though. I'm sure people will watch just out of curiosity. Regardless, I didn't think the list of "stars" was impressive or compelling enough to draw me in. Too bad because it was fun to watch. But I'll be checking back here to learn what everyone thinks of the show. That is fun too.

It was a typical first night.  Performances all over the map with several promising dancers and a few that were wooden or clumsy.  This year I didn't see any obvious buffoon.  Chaz seemed to charm and delight the judges and much of the audience.

Thought Chaz did a good job............I give him credit for just showing up, after all the publicity he has gotten lately............Hope the Kardascians don't come every week......no one needs them............thought Nancy Grace did not do well at all............also the basketball player was not very good...............The other guy who is "gay" was hysterical.................too early to tell, but I'm thinking Nancy Grace, or the basketball player might go tonight, unless they have a huge "fan base", and that will help them..................David Arquette did well too............should be interesting...........anyway what else is on in the time slot...........nothing that I care to watch.

ducky - I thought you called it right and you did.

After the rough time Chas had leading up to the show I was glad to see the celebration among the dancers and other contestants when he stayed.

Chabba..........me too. ..........hopefully he improves..............is able to slim down, and show everyone that there is nothing wrong with being "gay"...............it is a shame how gay people are persecuted.......................I have a couple homo-phobics in my family, and they really piss me off...............I would love my child regardless...............any parent who says different is not a parent...........they were just a guardian.............hope he continues to do well..

So do I.   One of my good friends in high school is gay.  Perhaps because we were good friends before I found out I've always been comfortable around gays and lesbians.  My cook's helper at the Senior Center is gay and I've been a little surprised and very happy that he is well accepted even by our most rigid seniors. He and his partner are also my bowling team mates on the merchants league team I sponsor.

I have never knowingly been acquainted with a trans gender person but I have no problem with that either.  If one is emotionally and psychologically a man in a woman's body--or visa versa--then that person should be able to make the change.

Chabba, I agree with that..............happiness is what really matters, regardless of how that happiness comes to you..........I have a grandson who we are not so sure about.......he made a statement to his Mom one time saying he was "confused" about his role in life.............he is a wonderful boy, now 25, and just as much a fun person as you can imagine.

My son-in- law's nephew......for the longest while we thought he was gay ...........absolutely handsome..............gorgeous face...................he is a male model...............he finally came out about 6 months ago..................he has a partner..................his mother and father are standing by him 100%, and so is the rest of the family ......................I always thought he was gay, but never said anything.......................

He told his parent's about times of sorrow and grief, when he considered taking his life, because he could not face admitting he was gay ...............how horrible would that have been.

I wish if my grandson is having the same problem he would, just "say it", and I would love him none the less..............I just want him to be happy, and if it takes revealing his being "gay", then so be it.............whatever it takes................

On to DWTS................we all know no matter how good Chaz becomes winning will not be in the cards for him................there are the haters out there who will not vote for him regardless of how good he is...................it should be interesting..........I'm in his corner no matter what...........everyone deserves a chance.

I think Chaz is so great, modest and just trying to be true to himself.  I think Rikki Lake looked pretty good, and was glad to see the tall athlete go.  Nancy Grace might be next.  I think it is going to be a fun season.  I dvr it--thought--I fast forward through the group dances and mostly all of the singers.  It is a fun diversion for me.

Any one but me watching DWTS?  Will be interesting to see who goes this week.  About time to start eliminating the really poor dancers,  though I do hope Chaz hangs on a bit longer.  He is at least fun to watch.  As far as I'm concerned Nancy and David should be the next two to go.
