I am cold all the time too...I have discovered that since my reconstruction, once my implants get cold it takes nothing less than a hot shower to warm them up again so they are not cold to the touch. Yet another 'unexpected' side effect from BC.
I love the pictures too Susie, please keep them coming.
I have been on the tamoxifen train for 13 days and so far all I have notice is I am yawning ALOT! Since I recently finished chemo and had recon 4 weeks ago...I assumed that the fatigue was a hold out from chemo. Before BC, I loved to take nap's, after work, on weekends, just to relax and shut down for a little while. I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat and wake up refreshed 30 minutes later. I am so frustrated that I cannot nap anymore!!! My brain just won't shut down without the help of a Ambien and even with the rx I am waking up several times during the night...my quality of sleep sucks!
Wishing everyone a GREAT night and a SE free week!

Hi tamoxibeauties! So many posts, I doubt I will be able to catch them all. I like seeing the thread move though, it means that we all have a great communication line going. Don't you think?
Brenda, I took and still do take Excedrin for my headaches and it works so far. I haven't had to ask for anything stronger. My headaches seem to have subsided for now, thank goodness. I really don't know for a fact that it was the tamox, but, they came as quickly as I started to take it. I hate headaches worse than anything. They can really knock you down.
Welcome back Kellly! Sounds like you had a great time. I love spending time with my girlfriends, but, I don't know that I could stand to be out of town away from my hubby. We are kind of joined at the hip, as some say. lol And, that is fine with me!
That is a beautiful pic of you Michelle! Sorry you are having trouble sleeping. Do you think it is just a mixture of a lot of stress maybe? Do you think that an antidepressant might help too? Or maybe try a different sleeping pill? You need your sleep.
Aw Bonnie, I haven't yet looked for my new picture of something laughable for here. I have been quite lazy today. Hubby and I just laid around, ate, watched football, a movie and napped. It was GREAT! lol
Nice to know that you will still be around Harley! We would miss you if you weren't.
I don't know how to add something above your name Lex. I am sure someone can help you out with that.
Hey vivvygirl! You are tired too? I think that is something that we all must have to go thru anymore. And, it isn't fair. I need to do some research on that. We need MTG now to show us the research. Where is she anyway? lol

hello
Zometa is a 3 year deal .. its an injection every 3-6 months and then its done.. that is my understanding. Also tomox is a different drug and purpose. Zometa has been recently approved for breast cancer as it helps bones but also helps reduce tumour size.
0 -
Helen-Jackie, I am going to be on Zometa every 6 months for the rest of my life. I had Stage 3b IDC. And mine is given as an infusion, not an injection. Interesting how so many of us have different information about this drug.

Susie,
I used to take Excedrin for my migraines, too, and it DID work, but I found that I was getting them MORE when I was taking Excedrin to get rid of them. I worked one summer for a neurologist, and he told me that you can get 'rebound' headaches from taking Excedrin. So, I still use Excedrin for my headaches, if they really aren't too bad. Maybe if I catch them in time, it's ok.
Hope everyone has a good week! My ride on the Tamoxi train is coming to an end.
18 more Tamoxifen pills to go!!!!! and so, the countdown continues!!!

Hi Tamoxitrainers....
or Susie's TamoxiBEAUTIES....and you know who you are. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Viv and Brenda.....sorry to hear you both are tired too. I've only been on the Big T a little over 3 months. I told my onc and he's the one that said tiredness is a side effect. I do think I've read that it is also.
OK Harley~ now don't forget to visit us.
About the Excedrin bounce back. Now I've heard that about them all....like Advil, Aleve, Tylenol, etc....that if you take them too much they can actually "cause" a headache. How I haven't a clue. But I think normal use is not what they are referring to when they say that.
It's crazy time here and I bet at all your houses too. Days are clicking away until Santa Claus comes to town.

Hi All,
It is a wonderful rain free day here in Cali. I love the rain, but also like it when it is over and the sun comes out...everything looks so fresh and clean!
Susie~ I have friends that are "day trippers" and the "overnighters" and I have as much fun with both groups! It's funny how different we are but whatever works is just fine!!
Bonnie~ Crazy times here too!! I still haven't done all my Christmas shopping and this weekend I need to do the baking. My youngest and I usually do the baking together so it is a great bonding time for us. It will be great with christmas music blasting and hot apple cider....mmmm yummy! What is everyone's favorite thing to bake/make at Christmas? My daughter and I like making fudge and evryone loves to eat it!
Enjoy the rest of the day!

Just a quick hello to everyone. My pc cord ripped while in Florida so I have a dead computer till the cord comes in. Currently in New Jersey for the week with my folks while my brother takes a break and using an ancient dialup computer that takes up an entire desk. Then off to Dc for a drive to Cleveland and a memorial service for my best friend's Mom who just passed away. Need to do some Amazon.com/ Zappos, etc shopping to come up with gifts since it doesn't look like I'll make it out to do any traditional shopping.
Hope all are enjoying family, friends and parties instead of doctors visits0 -
Hi from Mexico all,
Sending you all WARM weather .-))))))))))

Hi All,
Don't know how many of you have pets but I have a rescued dog and have raised 3-4 pound doggies (& kitties) over the years... all of whom were angels in disguise.
I came upon this tonight and thought you might enjoy it.
HERE IN THIS HOUSE
Here in this house... I will never know the loneliness I hear in the
barks of the other dogs 'out there'. I can sleep soundly, assured that
when I wake my world will not have changed. I will never know hunger, or
the fear of not knowing if I'll eat. I will not shiver in the cold, or
grow weary from the heat. I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's
coolness, and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.
Here in this house... There will be an effort to communicate with me
on my level. I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand, I can
enjoy the warmth of the words. I will be given a name so that I may know
who I am among many. My name will be used in joy, and I will love the
sound of it!Here in this house... I will never be a substitute for anything I am
not. I will never be used to improve peoples' images of themselves. I
will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should
be. I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity. I
will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all. If I do
not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame. Here in this house... I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me. If
I am ill, I will be doctored. If scared, I will be calmed. If sad, I
will be cheered. No matter what I look like, I will be considered
beautiful and known to be of value. I will never be cast out because I
am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough. My life is a
responsibility, and not an afterthought. I will learn that humans can...
almost..... sometimes.......be as kind and as fair as dogs.
Here in this house... I will belong. I will be home.Bonnie

Hi tamoxilovelyladies of the day and night! lol
Bonnie, that poem is so beautiful! I have tears coming down my cheeks. See >> I absolutely loved that! Thank you so much for posting that. I love animals! And, I think that anyone that does is always a good person. Yes, that is MY theory. I love my kitty! So, is it getting crazy at your house? Have you been good cause Santa is watching. lol Less than 2 weeks away is Christmas. Yikes! I have so much to still do.
MTG, great to see you! We have missed you. And, we need your valuable information postings! Yes, dial up is slow. I have it... It is all that I can get at this time in the country. I need to look into something else I guess. Hope you get your puter fixed soon. Enjoy your visit.
So Harley, do you think I should not use the Excedrin for my headaches and maybe switch off and on to other medicines? I have used Excedrin forever and since I started tamox..a lot. I never thought about that. I had one today, but, killed it with the Excedrin. But, as far as I know, that is my only se so far.
Did you see on the news about CT scans and the amount of radiation that some are getting? Scary! And, I have had a few of them. As if my radiation treatments weren't enough, now they say that the CT scans can give you cancer too. It was on the world news. Dumbie me never even thought about it. I even had a CT scan before rads to coordinate my rad treatment plan.
It is a bit warmer here, in the 40's today, but, in the 20's tonight. I think it is suppose to stay dry. No snow! I want some for xmas, but, not for sure it will come.
Now I am off to search for a funny pic. Ok?

LMAO @ Susie's latest pic! Thanks for the chuckle!
Except, I am almost too tired to laugh. I can't sleep now, which is making my tiredness ( is that a word ? ) even worse. Any suggestions?
I wish I would have waited to start tamox until after the holidays.

Hi Ladies!!
I LOVE the pics Viv and Susie...too funny!!
Jeanne~ sorry about the fudge thing, but it is a yummy time of year!
Susie ~ I too saw that about the ct scans and had a couple while going through this process!! Makes you wonder how much we all got over our course of treatments...oh well no sense in fretting over what we can't change!
Caroline ~ Enjoy Mexico for us!!!
Bonnie~ that poem touched my heart...thank you!!
Okay, so I need ideas for baking!! I'm tired of my usuals...I do have to do the fudge though as Santa won't bring me a gift if I don't! Is sugar a big no-no while on Tamox? I guess it is at anytime isn't it?
Anyway have a wonderful rest of the day!

Hi All,
Thanks Susie and Kelly for the comments on the doggie notes. So true too. They are such a blessing in our lives. If anyone wants to read it, it hit the bottom of page 209. Sometimes I miss something when it's at the very bottom like that.
I did see that on tv about the CT scans. That is scary as all get out !!!! It makes you wonder just how much they do to us IS super dangerous and we are UNAWARE. We are sort of...no ARE at the mercy of our medical profession.
I'm feeling like I'm trying to run on a conveyor belt right now....trying to get everything done and the time just keeps getting away.

Hi Ladies,
I'm new here...Just got my prescription of tamoxifen this morning. I was diagnosed with DCIS after lumpectomy in July, then re-excision in Sept. and finally a mastectomy in Nov.. Now it's time for the next step. It seems 5 years is a long time to me, especially with all the possible side-effects. I guess it'll be less scary once I get onto this train with all you wonderful ladies...
take care,
Liz

Hi Everyone,
Just touching base before I go to bed.
Liz~ Welcome!! I am fairly new myself! Only been a part of these great ladies for a little over a week! They are a wonderful group and made me feel at home right away so I know you'll feel the same!
Bonnie ~ I can relate to that conveyor belt...I still have to do my Christmas shopping...yikes time is running out!!!
Michelle ~ Animals are wonderful aren't they! The unconditional love is something we can all learn form them!
Have a good night everyone!

Liz,
I'm pretty new here too but this is really a friendly, knowledgable group of women. I've been taking tamoxifen since Oct 19,2009. I remember picking up the prescription and just looking at it for a few days before taking the plunge. After hearing of people having problems with nausea, I have made sure that I always eat something when I take it and I have not experienced nausea. I take mine in the morning, although I have heard that for many women taking it at night helps with side effects like hot flashes. So far I haven't really noticed any differences for me. I'm still somewhat anxious, realizing that after only a few months some of the SE could still occur.
My BS and onc both recommended ooph/hyster for me because of extensive family history and 90% estrogen receptor BC. I just went through that last week so I know that I will not have to worry about the effects of the tamox on my uterus/endometrium.
Just focus on the benefit to your health that tamoxifen will bring and join us on for a ride on the tamoxitrain

Hello, I am taking Tamoxifen for almost a month now, and my period is 1 week late already. I panicked and went for the pregnancy test but it's negative. My oncologist says that at my age 31 Tamoxifen shouldn't cause the irregulate periods. Is he right? Should I worry or what should I do if I won't get a period at all? Anyone has an experience with this? Thanks Silvia
0 -
Silviazara ~ I was told that 50% of the women on Tamox will have a period and 50% will not. It's likely that the Tamox is just messing with your ovaries/uterine-lining in some way and causing you to be irregular. I suggest going back to your doctor or getting a 2nd opinion about the side-effects of Tamox and how they may be affecting you.
I haven't had a period since I started chemo. I'm 39. I was told I had a 50/50 chance of it coming back (or staying away) while on Tamox for 5 years. I'm kinda hoping it stays away!
But because Tamox CAN mess with the lining of your uterus, and periods are the result of shedding that lining, there MAY be some cause-effect with the Tamox you are taking. Get a doctor who has a lot of experience with Tamox to tell you for sure.
Best wishes to you and I hope you solve the mystery soon! Alaina

Silvia, I agree with Alaina. Tamox can mess with your periods. I can't believe your oncologist said it couldn't. Why does he think some women have gyno problems on it? duh Do you have a gynocologist to call or go see? Ask them. Good luck.
Hi Michelle!
Welcome Liz0000 to the tamoxibeauties train! It is quite a ride! lol The only se I have had so far is a headache. They were there at the first, stopped and now are back, but, not so bad. I was scared to take tamox too. Terrified actually, and, I am still scared. I don't like putting something in my body that I don't really know much about and that I have read "bad" stuff about. But, I figured that I need to do everything I can to fight the beast and to stop ever having bc come back. So, I popped it in my mouth and away I went. I wish you the best of luck on it.
Bonnie, are you doing too much? It sounds like it. I know, I am swamped too. I haven't even got xmas cards out yet. Can you believe that? I may just forget it. lol
Ok, see ya all later ladies!
Susie
Here are couple of links Silvia about tamox and irregular periods.
http://www.medicinenet.com/tamoxifen-oral/article.htm#Uses
http://www.cancer.ie/action/tamoxifen.php
There are so many more too, but, all of these say irregular periods is part of tamox. Some say to call your doctor if this happens.

Love the picture of the hot flash. It does feel like that sometimes. They seem better since starting the Effexor but I am still not sure it is worth it.
To all with toe and feet cramps. The unwrapped soap really seems to help.
I really appreciate all the information you all post even though I don't post much. I do try to read everything. I tried to read the back pages but got to 50 and gave up. It is harder enough keeping up with the current pages.
Welcome to the new women.

Hi Team
This has been a really good day!! I'm trying to increase my walking ('cos its good for me) and my daughter told me that in the last 6 days I walked 12 miles and that doesnt include my walking around San Francisco this past weekend!! Yes, I am proud of myself although I probably shouldn't crow about it! LOL!
Susie ~ Thanks for the picture..it made my day! Also for the links.
Silvia ~ I started taking Tamoxifen October 1st. Anyway, my last period was just over a week late. I put it down to the tamox. So based on Susie's link, I just left a message at my dr office just to let them know. So I third Alaina & Susie, call a dr, see if your gyn is familiar with Tamox!
Take care everyone!!
Kelly
Susie ~ Just wanted to add that your picture was me after my walk today...not a pretty sight...Lol!

Hi all. Actually, I really like Kelly's "Hi Team"; we really are a team aren't we ? I'm back in the world now that I've got my new computer cord. Yippee !
Susie - It wasn't merely having dial up that was killing me, it was using a computer with Windows 98 as it's newest program. Read: OLD. Makes you appreciate the little things.
Alaina - Love the new photo. Took me a while to figure out who you were. Of course, also loved the M&M.
Great photos all. Sounds like everyone is doing well !
Dad enjoyed his birthday. Okay, he complained at every course but since he ate 2 appetizers , a main course and more than 2 desserts, my suspicion is that complaining is now his version of raving about things. My Mom loved spending a week with her sister. So all in all a good trip to Florida. (By way of background, I sort of checked out of helping with them during the last 6 months while dealing with BC crap - they missed me and my brother missed having someone to share parent duty with....it's actually nice to be getting back to normal.)
I'm letting my fingers do the shopping for the Holidays this year. If anyone is a shoe fan , DSW has 25% off for 2 more hours if you buy 2or more pairs (use code "Cheer"), free shipping (use code Snowman) and and extra $5 off (use code KCPromo) and you can use all three codes !!!!
By the way, Happy Hanukkah, to those who, like me, celebrate it. (Of course, we also celebrate Xmas, not as a religious holiday but a nice way to gather the family together.)
Back to shopping for me!!!
