Eastcoastgirl - I also couldn't take any painkillers and was miserable after my biopsies. When I was in 'recovery' from my first lumpectomy, I told them that I cannot take codeine (because it just comes right back up!) They said they were not letting me leave the hospital until they found something to relieve my pain! I was able to take Tramadol, which is in the morphine family, as opposed to codeine, if I understand them correctly. Hopefully, you'll never need strong painkillers again, but just in case - now you have something to try.
Beanius & Jo - It took me from September until December 31st to be able to keep down the 20 mg. of Tami, divided up into 2 doses. They finally gave me Zofran to take with it and it was a big help. So, I'm assuming that since the Onc prescribed it, that it's okay to take with Tamoxifen. My body eventually acclimated to it and I don't need the Zofran any more. Good luck! It will get better.

Jo, sorry you don't feel much like eating. It will get better soon though, so it's so awesome that you're doing everything possible to stay positive. The banana and mango look delicious!!! I went through a spell wherein I couldn't eat anything either. I felt nausea and food tasted weird too.
How are you doing today? I've been unable to get to this site for a few days.

Jo How are you feeling today? Did you get the ginger and di it help? Hugs to you and hope you are back to your old self soon.....June

Still nauseated - tried to get some ginger but where I live is a huge hispanic population - whites are a minority -- and certain things are hard to find. I went to a few stores with no luck - got discouraged and went home. Too cold to be outside. Will try again tomorrow or will call my MO for something.
I haven't given up yet and if it takes 4 months for this to go away I will stick with it. Won't give up on searching for ginger either.

RegalbeagleI could only wish that food would taste wierd so I could stop eating.....however I really dont wish ill on anyone......
Hindimetfan/Eastcoastgrl I also cannot take any painkillers and have been that way for years. When I went in for my 2 surgeries I was also worried about anesthesia as I get violently ill and they gave me so much anti nausea medicine it worked like a charm.....
TInk I was wondering if somewhere down the road you would adopt again....I am so happy to hear you will......
Harley44 that is hilarious and what a good Mom you are to let them win.......I know I hate to move my cats especially when it is time to make the kids beds, they look so comfy cozy I always call the kids to come in and remove them......
SherrycI have 2 cats who do the same thing to each other and we all watch to see how it unfolds.....I have 1 cat who is indoor and tiny and weighs only 7lbs and another who is a fat love-bug who is 21 lbs (yes that is what I said) and my fat love bug is an outdoor cat and everyday it never fails that the minute fatty comes in the little one stares him down and tackles him.....such jealousy it is actually funny!!!!

Jo - you sound good, but I know how awful it feels to feel queasy. I was impressed with all the good remedies from these ladies and hope you feel better soon. I hope you will talk with your doctor for help. You are so sweet to post all the goodies and nice pictures for us!
EastCoastGirl - so glad you could add some details about how to prepare the ginger tea, very helpful.
Hindimetfan - thanks for the info about zofran and Tammy. During chemo zofran was my miracle drug. I started out taking a whole pill in the mornings, then found I could cut it in half, and if I had breakthrough yuck-o I could add just a tiny bit to feel better. Amazing stuff! My mom had the same type of chemo back in the late 70's before zofran and she used compazine, but I know she struggled with nausea a lot. I never used compazine, so can't compare the two. I had it for breakthrough, but always just stuck with zofran, then at night I took an ativan. I think I slept better during chemo than now due to ativan. But, I hate taking anything, so I just take Tammy a few supplements and some probiotics. I think my immune system is coming back up, but not totally there yet. Yesterday I felt great, then today I didn't get enough sleep - woke up at 3 am burning hot!! Then DH said he forgot to turn down the thermostat when we went to bed, so I think that was the culprit, though I do get those warm waves now that I'm on Tammy. I think I put the covers off and on more now than I used to in the night.
Wishing you all the best!!

Jo1955...I somtimes feel nauseated about an hour after I take Tami...it seems to be better when I have breakfast and then take tami with my vit D etc... Also seems better if I only have one cup of coffee with it and if I take it with a full , 8oz glass of water...Splitting it in half has made me less nauseated, and I have fewer moments of pGW (personal global warming..these are not wamr flashes) ...Today, I wore a shirt I bought a month ago...while that is not extraordinary, the fact that I did not have to change today is! (Last month, I got to school and had a hot flash five minutes before going in to my class...I had to change and pin a sweater together as the stains went from my underarm to half way dwn my midriff!)..so ...halving the pill has been a huge help!

Sandee - I do split the dose - have been from the beginning and have also cut down on the coffee. I take the morning dose with breakfast and then have a half of a granola bar at night with the other half. I was find until recently - thought I had it made - boy, was I wrong. This is the same thing that happened when I tried Arimidex. The frustrating thing is the nausea does not go away. It is another chapter from Murphy's Law.

Feeling VERY tired today... I just HATE this fatigue... I am wondering if I have more trouble with fatigue, when I am on Tamoxifen... UGH....
June, yes, they are so cute, and I can't move them, either. Spike sleeps on the bed with us, too. Sometimes, Thor will. he lays at the bottom of the bed. He's my foot warmer! LOL
June, Tinker, East Coast Girl, I am also on Facebook. Please message me with your name, so I can send you a friend request...

June and tinker, thanks. Have had a good few days
The sun is out in WA and that certainly lifts my spirits.
June my toe is taped to the other toes to keep it in place. OMG, it throbs. Daughter wanted me to get a cast on it as a joke. LOL
I'm on FB and welcome the connection. Julie Day, Olympia, WA
Contractors started on our kitchen today. Talk about a mess. Glad I'm out of here next week.

Jo....I take my second half with supper around 7pm...have not had a super hot flash at night (as a result maybe ?) and I don't end up feeling nauseated at night...just sometimes in the am...what about the ginger gravol that they sell in the drugstores? doesn't knock you out. like the regular gravol and has the ginger properties.... or taking it with a glass of milk (hot chocolate) to kind of coat your stomach? So hard to know..and nausea is such a lousy feeling . So sorry you are having to deal with that on top of the rest of this ride...mint tea???

Jo, hope your stomach settles soon. I know you are anxious since this happened when you were taking Arimidex. Sure hope you get some relief soon. You might ask you dr if it would be okay to skip a dose to let your stomach settle. My DH really got concerned the first time I told him I had forgotten to take my Tamoxifen. I discussed it with my onco and she assured me that it would take several missed doses before it started leaving my system.
With that said, I am not advocating skipping medication without consulting with you dr.

Everyone has been so wonderful with all the good suggestions and I am willing to try all of them. I may try taking my 2nd dose at dinner and see if that helps. This nausea really sucks.

suggestions are key, hmm? Food in the belly is what works for me. Hope it helps jo!

So sorry for all the nausea, fatigue and broken toe!!! Yikes.
Of the many cats I've had, one was a little nutty. "Missy" would scratch at the kitchen door begging to go outside. Then she would circle to the back of the house to the deck and scratch to get back inside (to the same kitchen!). She would do this over & over again out of boredom or something. One day my daughter had a friend over and they were sitting on the deck. After the cat made her entrance/exit several times, the friend turned to my daughter and asked "How MANY cats do you have?" We still laugh about that today.
OK so last night's hot flash - I was burning hot, but my feet were freezing! Wish they would even out!

I've been having crazy hot flashes too, but they have been here since Sept. from chemopause. Do any of you know whether the hot flashes get worse on Tamoxifen, or will they be about the same as during chemopause?
One day my mom was at my house helping me and we both all of a sudden started peeling off layers of clothes--who would have thought my mom and I would ever have hot flashes at the same time! Lots of my older friends who teach at my school really are enjoying the fact that I feel their pain now as well, even though they definitely wish I didn't have to go through all of this to empathize with them.

I am not waking up sweating but I continue to wake up at 4am...and then it is as if my body realizes 'gee. I am hot' because after about 5 minutes of being awake, I have to peel off the feather comforter, toss off the pj bottoms and flanel shirt...some nights I just stick my feet ouf ot the covers and put my feet on the cold wall and that cools me down incredibly quickly!!!

Smile_Onhow funny to share that moment with your mom and the older ladies at your School......I wish I could help you, however I never had any of those darn hot flashes on the Tamox and I feel so lucky as I hear and read from a lot of you women how awful it really is......I worry as I am not symptomatic and wonder if I am metabolizing it well. My Doc doesn't even seemed concerned at all......I go the end of March and I will ask him if I can get the test, I need to be reassured that the little white pill is working for me......0
-
Sandeeonherown as I just said to Smile_on about not having any hot flashes, I too wake up in the middle of the night and strip down.....I don't have a wall to stick my feet on but I do air them out.....maybe that is my little version of the Hot Flashes.......
JanteinVirgina- I love the cat stories all you women are sharing.....each one so unique! I love having pets, not sure what I would do without them........
Tink I hope you are hanging in there and these cat stories are putting a smile on your face!!! Thinking of you!!!!!

June Thanks they sure are! Cats are the funniest little creatures, smart, cuddly, yet independent and very much in charge of a household.lol... I have this cute stuffed cat and it has a sign on it that says " Dogs have owners Cats have staff"... I smile everytime I look at that. I do miss having them, especially now, yet I am not quite ready to go and get another one... almost like a mourning period hope that doesnt sound to dramatic, just not ready... but down the road absolutley June I am curious if my doc will do any blood work when I go back, not until June, but if anything I hope she at least checks my vit d and liver function...
SMILEON I dont know if they get worse but it seems like it is pretty common with the Tamoxifen My onc said that was one of the biggest se.... I go from sweating though to freezing in like 5 sec. like bone cold cant get warm... oye... fun fun fun
I have noticed the last week I sweat what feels like all night. I am not sure why it only happens at night. I split my dose as well, I feel like I wake up dehydrated some mornings, but this is pretty recent.
0 -
Yes!! dehydrated...I have never drunk enough water in my life but that sure is changing... when I wake up at 4am, I go to the kitchen and guzzle a huge glass of water...and at school, I have sweaters that I just put on and take off all day...you have to laugh about it really...nothing else to be done. One day last week when I had a gwm (global warming moment), a 30 year old co-teacher was in my office discussing a roublesome student. As I started peeling off the layers, she grabbed a book and started fanning me and kept on talking.. we ended up in hysterics. Funny how we adapt to our new normals!

I think I found the solution to get rid of the nausea - Yea! Took my 1/2 dose at dinner and the answer was right in my refrigerator - Guess what it is???? MILK! I took it with a full glass of milk and the stomach has calmed down. Who would ever have thought. I do remember there are some meds that should be taken with milk and it will say so on the label. This one does not - and I don't know what made me think of it but sure glad I did.
0 -
JoI am so happy you found a soution to that horrible nausea.....I will keep my fingers crossed that the milk is the key for you! YAY, YAY, YAY!!!!0
-
Thanks June - First time I felt good in 4 days. It's a good thing I love milk even if it is fat free. Heck, I'm willing to go to 1% or 2% if I have to. I do the fat free because DH is a diabetic.0
-
Jo glad you found the answer and are not nauseatied

Sherry - Oh what a relief it is.

Interesting to hear the flash stories. So far haven't had any during the day. It's usually once right before I fall asleep and then 4 am.
June - check w/your onc, but don't think you have to worry about metabolizing. They discredited the test at the Dec 10 San Antonio conference and don't recommend even ordering the test anymore! My onc had ordered the test back in Oct and it came back I wasn't good candidate. He was disappointed because that's what he wanted me to take. So I started Arimidex and couldn't tolerate it. Then when I saw him in late Dec he confirmed what had come out of the conference - he switched me and here I am on this train. Also remember, some women have very few if any hot flashes even in natural menopause.
0 -
JanetinVirgina -that would be fantastic if I could go through menopause and have no hot flashes.......I did not know that very few women have them....my mom is in her 5th year of Alzheimer's and I would love to ask her but I know she wouldn't remember.....lol......good to know about the test as well, thank you!0

Jo so glad you found an answer thats awesome!
SANDEE..I know what you mean I have had kidney stones twice and still didnot drink the water i should, now however that is all i drink... then if i am not up sweating at night i am up peeing lol!!
