This train is moving so fast I cannot keep up. I got up nad did my elliptical this morning and yeah no stiffness so that is a positive change.  I wish I could say the same about my sleep.  Since I slept so good Sat night I decided to not take a sleeping pill and see how I would do.  Three hours of good sleep and then I was pretty much awake with cat naps the rest of the night.  I go see my new MO tomorrow and I am going to ask about the low dose asprin.  There is also a health food store right down the road from my Dr's office so I am going to stop in and see about the glycine.

There are so many of us on FB it will be fun for us all to hook up there as well.

Linda M welcome.  I have read that high risk women do benefit from Tamox.  I am bad at recalling stats but I remember thinking it was good.  Also I had ADH 13 years ago and dense breast tissue so that put me at high risk and after reading the studies I wonder why do one ever suggested it to me. OH well I am on it now. haha  This is a great group of ladies and feel free to ask questions.

Dawney will be praying for B9 results

    Hi All,

I will be riding the tamoxifen bus with all of you starting on the 21st of this month. My oncologist had to wean me off of a med that I've been taking for years and switch me to something else that would not interfere with the tamoxifen. I should be ready to go by next Monday :P

I'm hoping I won't have any SE, but I guess you never know. I'm 53, but still get my period. Will the tamox. put me into menapause? and stop my periods? I've read comflicting things about all of this.

Victoria I am not good at long explainations but I will give it a try.  Tamoxifen will not put you into menapause.  You will still produce estrogen but the tamoxifen is design so that your hormones cannot penetrate the hormone receptors that are in the cells. That is if you have any cells from your tumor that may be lurking in your body.  My MO explained that it kinda acts like a protective shield so the hormones cannot get to the cells.  The cells need the hormones to survive so over time they are suppose to die off.

Wow, so many posts, so little time.  Welcome to everyone who has just joined.  Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.

Intuitwoman - sorry I can't help you with any information.  I think you are ahead of me in the treatment for the thickening of the uterus wall.  My gyn did an ultrasound last month which showed thickening.  She tried to use meds to flush my system.  All that caused was lethargy and cramping.  I've got an appointment to see her next week.

What are the pros and cons to having a hysterectomy?

Vikki, welcome.  Tamoxifen should not put you in menopause although it can affect your periods.  Mine have ceased but I'm not in menopause.  My FSH levels are still pre-menopausal.

Jo glad you are finally around the bend and doing well again.  Sherryc glad you were able to get some sleep.  Eastcoastgirl sorry you are dealing with headaches.  I've had a few but chalked it up to allergies.  I do have more headaches now than a year ago.

Chappa, I'm with you.  The goodies look wonderful.  Tinker you are like a breath of fresh air - always uplifting.  Chevyboy you have such a marvelous sense of humor.  My FIL finally got hearing aids.  He wears them when he leaves the house or is expecting company.  If he is staying home, he usually doesn't wear them.  This gives "selective" hearing a whole new meaning.

The weather is wonderful!  The sun is shining and we are headed into the 70's.  Hooray!

Exodus sorry you are having problems with your uterus.  Hope you can find a resolution. You ask for pros and cons and I can't really say were tamoxifen is concerned but I had my utuerus removed when I was 32 and left my ovaries in.  I had alot of problems and was finished having kids.  The only choice I had was to be miserable or have my uterus removed.  I choose to have it removed and it was one of the best things I every did.  I remember waking up from surgery thinking I hurt from the surgery but my other pain was gone. Because I still have my ovaries I still have all my hormones. I am 48 now and have never missed it and really do not miss having periods.

Thanks Sherry.  As they say, This too shall pass.  The thickening concerns my gyn more than me and because it is uniformed, she isn't worried about the c word although knowing her, she will be aggressive in dealing with it.  She doesn't want something going wrong on her watch.

So is it when ovaries are removed that osteoporosis becomes an issue?  Actually that makes sense since menopause is caused by the ovaries shutting down which means no more hormones.

Thanks for the concern ladies but no worries.  It will all work out.

I think I bumped into Sherry and Jo on the way to the dining car.

Hi Worldwatcher.....I am also in the Phoenix area, and am in the process of scheduling a few oncologist consultations.  It sounds like the one that you are using has a lot of experience, would you mind passing the name of your doctor onto me please?  Thank you so much !

Sandee ~ I hope Tammy doesn't give me nail probs. :( .... I was just remarking how much stronger my nails have been since diagnosis because of how much healthier I'm eating and all the supplements I'm taking! ~ I guess we'll see!

Yes susan....My nails SHOULD be stronger also, because of all the supplements, but me, being the gal that I am, stopped to get my nails done, with that "gel" formula....WELL!  After about 2 weeks wearing them, & trying to type, I gradually lifted them off....That new formula was much harder on my nails than the regular "acrylic" that I've used....So now my nails are whimpering, to themselves, trying to grow out normal again.  You would THINK I would know better.....but NO!  They WERE beautiful though....Wink

    So like you, we'll see...???

Sandy & Vicki....that was good!  "Tamoxifen is like an umbrella"  ....  Very good!

    TINK!!!!!!!!!  XOXOXOXOXO

Chevyboy ~ oh, I totally know that "thin nail feeling" after fake one's peel off.  Ugh!! Last time I did that it took my nails FOREVER to grow out where they weren't peeling and breaking with the slightest pressure!  I thought I heard of something new they were doing that is a type of layer that makes them stronger... but maybe that was the gels?? Undecided

Chevyboy, I understand. I had my nails done for the first time ever a year ago before my son's wedding. (went out with the bridal party and bride's mother). The woman who did my nails commented on how strong my nails were. After the nail polish wore off, I noticed the nails were constantly cracking and breaking. I will not be having them done again; apparently my nails prefer the natural look!

Hello ladies - the biopsy went fine, I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.  The lump was so calcified and hard the doctor had to use two types to needles to even get a sample and I am a little sore from all the pushing.  Now just waiting on the results.

    Happy Valentines Day everyone!
