Bottle o Tamoxifen

I do have memory fog since starting Tamoxifen. Can't quite remember things as quickly as before and it frustrates me to no end. I have to write more things down these days. I know part of it is due to getting older - sometimes don't want to admit I am getting older.
Tink - You are soooooo spoiled. I have not had my dinner yet, but I did get the dessert made and will serve it up. We have a saying where I work, "Life is too short, eat dessert first."

Jo.. you ARE the best!!! thank you for spoiling me soo!!!!! just had a craving and now I am good!0

yep Jo..someone on the school trip this weekend said "but Sandee..you are a young 48"...to which I responded "What the hell does that mean????"....what is 48 supposed to be like???? Apparently I am not your typical 48 year old....WTH??? It does not sound to me like anyone on this thread is typical either....they then sound put out if I say "I'm 48...that is young...just older than you."HAH!

Tink I forgot what I was going to write, talk about memory loss....ha ha Oh yeah, that was it....I too am like you as I now have to write everything down and even with the stinking list in hand I still manage to forget some things.....my husband blames my old age, the big 45.....he is younger than me, so the joke is always on me....ha ha
Sandeeonherown Love the weather being everything you could possibly have in one day.....SWEET! During the first I think 3 months on Tami, I developed one kicking infection down there and I thought it was urinary, NOPE.....then they thought it was stones as I have a condition where I get so many and was told not to have kids due to the amount that I have....( I have had over 40 stones since the age of 17 )...Still worse than having kids. Anyhow after 1 1/2 weeks I finally treated myself with a yeast product and after a week, it finally subsided....So hard not to blame the pill.....it seems to be the cause of everything us women experience....
Chevyboy So sorry to hear this.....I am praying and hoping it is not due to Tami as you have been one positive lady and now to have this thrown in your face is just horrible.....Please keep us posted and I hope your hubby is wrong......
Ladies I am off to soak in a tub as I did too much yesterday at the gym and I bowled last night to boot....boy am I getting old!
Jo any nice looking men to assist me with tub time.....ha ha I hope you never run out of material as you sure do keep us entertained....

June - I found two willing volunteers. Hope you can handle them.
And yes ladies, I know I am crazy. But you have to admit, I do keep you well fed and entertained.

Thanks for the responses to my post ..sorry to be a downer, just having a rough time lately. Upped my dose to 10mg and am halfway there. (Think I will stay at that until after my exchange surgery) And seems I notice every time I up the dose, SE come....so in a way just want to get on with it.
Chevyboy- SO sorry to see that the Tamox might have caused hearing loss. ((( I really hope not but will they be able to tell with testing if it was caused by T?
Jo-I havent' been on FB in a couple days but going to check now! BTW, keep the pics coming! Love em....
Sandee, Tink and June- Yes to the memory fog, word recall and lost train of thought. Drives me crazy. Some days are worse then others.
Hope you all had a wonderful Sunday!

Well hell, Chevyboy, I never considered that it could have something to do with Tamoxifen. I had hearing loss before I was on it, but it has gotten noticeably worse in the last 6 months, coincidentally about how long I've been on T (and I'm 40, so it should not be age). It won't do any good to tell my ENT, because he seems completely stumped as to why I'm going deaf. He keeps trying things and nothing works and I've about had it. If it weren't for how much they cost, I'd have hearing aids already, though I agree it makes it easy to sleep when you can't hear....
I gotta laugh or I'll cry.

Chevyboy - Hope you get to hearing again soon. Never would have made that connection. It is amazing all what this drug can do to us. Sometimes makes me wonder if it is worth it. I don't want to get bc again and have to have more surgery although mine was certainly minor compared to most. Wish you well
Jo - that looks so good. We went to Red Lobster for dinner and ate too much. Chocolate cake for dessert which was really rich. We haven't been there in a long time. It was good.

We had a nice 3-4 days which melted all of the snow. Then today it snows a bunch and it is now spitting freezing rain. I am so ready for spring.

JO..What can I say you spoil us all. I would pass on dessert for those cabana boys lol!!!!

took the plunge and restarted my tamox last night. No insomnia which was great, but it does seem that I wake up much earlier on tamox. Maybe that is not a bad thing as long as I feel rested which I do. I noticed this right before the MO had me stop taking it. I am off today and thought I would sleep in today. Oh well I'm on BCO instead. hehe Lets just hope I don't get nausea this time

Here's hoping nauseau does not join you at the tami table.Maybe try taking it with milk like Jo does?

Man, I just laid in bed & cried last night...I found 3 different web-sites that DID talk about hearing loss while on Tamoxifen. I called the "on call" Oncologist yesterday, & of course he said he never heard of such a thing. I asked my PC Doc the same thing last month when I went to her. The Audiolaryngologist also said he didn't think so....
But my Daughter sent me this web-site this morning..
http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/tamoxifen+citrate/deafness
And THIS was dated Jan. 29, 2011 !! Damn! At least I now know it isn't all in my head, oh wait, it Is! So now I will politely send or take all 4 of these print-outs from 4 different sites, & politely shove them down my whole teams throats! Ha, ha!
The "age" from 60+ says 70.97% have deafness when taking Tamoxifen citrate....so for all you young gals....don't get "old".....
Maybe I'm just an anomaly...but it's awfully scary....I might have to try something like Femara, after I'm off this awhile...but I'm so much older than you gals. The cancer-math website says I have 15 more years..... And that's withOUT Tamoxifen. but I WOULD like to hear!
So now I believe you CAN get "different" side-effects...just keep on top of them...and WE have to figure it out sometimes...not "them."
So thanks you gals...I love ya! Thanks Tory...just think about it.... I can send you several other web-sites also...I just don't want to scare anyone out there...dag-NAB-it!!!! xoxoxoxo

Chevyboy - This is certainly a frustrating time for you having to deal with the loss of hearing. There is plenty of articles on the internet about this and I would print them out and take them to the doctors. They don't like it when we do that but who the h@ll cares. Seems we have to take care of ourselves these days and educate the doctors who are supposed to know more than we do.
I don't think you are alone with the hearing loss. I have read a few others are having this problem and like you, their doctors think it is all in their heads.
Hope you get some resolution very soon and are able to hear again.
(((HUGS)))

Chevy - so upsetting to hear this! You are doing absolutely the right thing to take recent articles. I've had 2 specialists encourage that. There is SO much information and if your onc treats many different kinds of cancers, there is no way they can keep up with the volume of data on every type of cancer, every drug, etc. Plus, once a study is released to the press, it can take 3-4 months before results are published in medical journals that doctors read. So there is also a lag time in information getting out there.

Chevyboy- take them in with you. My doc was very receptive to my talking to her about the added Vit D and glycine for sleep...we are super-focused on BC and they are focused on all kinds of thigns so good on you for doing the research ....I hope you don't have to shove 'em down their throat though...I will keep my fingers crossed that they are recetpive to the homework you have done. Goodluck!

CHEVYBOY.. Absolutley take them all in. How frustrating. I dont know why many of them dney some of the se of Tamoxifen when the amount of women experiencing them is great. I hope they can get to the bottom of this for you quickly and come to a resolution. Please let us know how it goes.
(((( hugs ))))

Chevyboy, so sorry about your hearing problems and hope you get some resolution and nothing is permanently damaged. Each person's chemistry is different and our bodies respond to this "added ingredient" in different ways. I developed costochondritis from radiation last week (5 mos after radiation) and it made me so sad for a couple of days, just a reminder of the cancer that I'd rather not be reminded of. I'm using castor oil and heat and it's helping a lot, in case any of you experience this too. Wishing all of you a good Monday, wherever you are.0

Sorry ladies but I was way too busy to make breakfast. Thinking about lunch.
I have been so bad lately with the pizza and cheeseburgers. A nice salad sounds good today.

Oh gosh, after trying to catch up, I'm suddenly VERY hungry!
I was 12 pages behind, so I've only read the last two.
Chevy - I'm so sorry that you are dealing with hearing loss. I appreciate your sharing of information regarding Hearing loss relative to Tamoxifen use. Sadly, I think we do need to educate our doctors some times. I agree with the others. Take the information in or send it ahead of time.
June - from what I've read, Tamoxifen is the only medication approved for pre-menopausal breast cancer patients. If we are still pre-menpausal when our Tamoxifen time is up, there is no next step because the AI's won't be able to keep up with the natural estrogen in our body.
To all the non-sleepers. I'm with you. I'm really struggling with fatigue AND sleeplessness and I take Temazepam to help me sleep through the night. Blech. I'm just so tired, and I'm tired of not being able to sleep and having such terrible and painful night sweats. Let's put together a sleeper car for this train. I think we should also have on-call massage therapists who can put us into deep relaxation. I'm just saying.... sleep would be so nice.

chevy so sorry about the hearing loss and I would def take the articles and show the Doctors.

Barbie....there is a sleep train (labelled -Sleep Problems) and folks have posted some really good ideas there. I am awaiting the arrival of my hypnosis cd in the mail as we speak! Fatigue, lack of sleep just wreaks havoc on my emotions and ability to be logical. Think is it also doing a number on my memory now....or it could be the tamoxifen or the sleeping pill.....either way...NOT how I wan to live my life.....need to find a productive way to sleep....

Barb and SAndee I have been using my yoga breathing when I wake up at night. My MO suggested I try this to relax and fall back asleep and it is working. If you have never done it you breath in very deep and expand your diaphragm. Then you exhale. the point is to have the same length of inhale and exhale. You develop a rhythm for it and it does work. He said to do this 10 minutes before sleep as well. I don't do that. If you do try it before bed sit with your legs crossed and be relaxed. Works for me.

Chevy - so sorry to hear about what is going on. I agree with everyone else on taking those forms into your doctors. Hopefully, that se is like many and gets better after awhile.
I got into see the gyn today about my excessive vaginal bleeding. I am scheduled for a D & C on Friday so he can try to figure out what is going on and rule out cancer. Not looking forward to it but do want the answers and for the bleeding to stop. I will keep you posted when I know something. And the fun never stops.

Hi Girls...I took 4 pages of Tamoxifen & hearing loss to the Audiologist, & she had not heard of the connection either.....But she DID tell me that nerve damage does not get better....Anyway I got to try on hearing aids, & I could "HEAR!" DAMN! Then she took them out....They cost between $1 thousand to $2 thousand each. I know they might really be good, but I have an appointment with Costco this Monday, for a hearing test, & hopefully hearing aid fitting.
I'm waiting for my Oncologist to call back (of course) to tell her I am stopping Tamoxifen, and will talk to her in April about Femara...
I just want to Thank you all, for your good wishes....It just makes you so afraid, when you know you are losing your hearing....and no-one seems to know anything!
So thanks gals....you are the best! xoxoxoxo

Since we indulged over the weekend, I am trying to stay on the healthy side today. The salad for lunch was great. This is what I am planning for dinner tonight.
Remember, I do take special requests for meals and/or desserts. Just post them here and I will see what I can do.

So sorry to read about your hearing problems Chevyboy. Hope you can run down the cause and find a fix for it.
Has anyone read that new report on SN disection? If so -- what are you hearing from your surgeons?
